Rookiedaddyhood # 200 - Light my fire
Two nights ago was fire. We went bar hopping, Evan and I. After four unsuccessful trips to find a place, we ended up at Packo's in QC.
Our first stop was Pardon My French in Jupiter Street in Makati. It's a rock and roll night. We made a reservation for two. Got in. Found our seats. It took us less than 10 minutes to get out of there and look for another place. The place is elegant, very classy. Very French. We are simply not keen to be in a place that looks like a wedding reception that night. 😅 That's for another day.
We headed to Saguijo in Makati. It was closed that night. So was Block 123 in Mandala Park in Mandaluyong. Mow's and Motorista were closed too.
We ended up at Packo's. I've been to Packo's several times with my ABS-CBN visual effects friends. We always get a seat at the veranda, outside the closed door bar where everyone watches the live band. My ears like soft sounds now. I like the murmurs and the sound of cars passing by while enjoying Packo's spicy squid and hotdogs with chili beef.
Evan and I got a table inside. The band started playing. The table to my left looked like they had too much to drink already. Banging the bottles on their table. This rarely happens in a wedding reception. We're too far away from Pardon My French now. Besides it's late already to go back there. I am always aware of my surroundings. Those spy and action movies taught me well. 😂 So I befriended the two John Wick-ish guys at the table to my right. It's always nice to have a John Wick ally in a place like this. Two John Wicks are always better than one. Turned out they're cool bros too.
Something funny. This new friend bro keeps asking me if were truly a Filipino. He said I don't look like one. I said I am 100% Filipino.
He sang on stage and egged me to sing too.
Well, what the heck. I'm down bro. 🤣
I went up the stage and sang. Light my fire by Jim Morrison. Evan filmed me. Lol.
When I came down the stage and went back to my seat at our table, we were hilariously laughing. Especially when Evan told me that our cool bro beside the table came up to him and asked him, "Pinoy ba talaga sya?" 🤣😂
I have been writing since 2007 when Evan was one and a half years old. This is my 200th short story rookiedaddyhood. My adventure with Evan. My Rookiedad writings are becoming less and less frequent. He's a young man now. A kind one. He took the good genes after his mom. That's what I have always prayed for.
In june of 2007, I wrote a blog about the songs I wanted to play with Evan when he grows up. It's here. https://rikigarcia.tumblr.com/post/33291718856/top-x-number-of-songs-i-want-to-play-with-evan
We have had a few attempts to play together with this friends. They rehearsed Territorial Pissings but we were not able to play it.
We will do it when the right time comes.

REVIEWS : MUSIC
The SaGuijo leg of the Fresh Filter Vol. 1 Bar Tour presents the vinyl revival as a vital part of the Pinoy independent music ecosystem.
Originally published on Bandwagon PH, June 2015
On paper, the Fresh Filter Vol. 1 launch show at SaGuijo would most likely send a more cautious business planner into fits of rage. One might argue that the whole set-up ran counter to The New Normal of the commercial music industry. On a humid, wet payday Friday, co-organizers Jam 88.3 and Satchmi put on a show at the longest-running independent music venue in Makati, and didn’t charge any entrance fee. (For context, most gigs hover around the PhP200 range, including a standard drink.) Instead, the free gig was like a de facto come-on for listeners to buy the Fresh Filter Vol. 1 vinyl compilation, which brings together a curated slate of independent local acts, including all the ones booked at SaGuijo that night.
It almost feels like a deliberate fuck-you to the conventional wisdom of how to sell music in 2015. Instead of sharing digital tunes in the cloud, as a way to get fans to pay a premium for the live show, the Fresh Filter crew is putting the bands in front of appreciative crowds gratis, in the hope that they’ll fork over cash for a physical record. Between sets, Fresh Filter host (and Jam 88.3 DJ) Russ Davis repeated the spiel that buying the record would give direct support to the bands involved.
It’s a bold approach, no doubt – for one thing, there isn’t much reliable consumer data about how many Pinoy music fans even own a vinyl record player. That opens up a related marketing opportunity for Fresh Filter’s partners at Satchmi – they also produce the Motorino, a portable record player that’s branded as a starter model for vinyl newbies. Sure enough, they even raffled off a Motorino during the show at SaGuijo.
In effect, the organizers established that the goods – the vinyl compilation and the record player – were the real focal point of this live event. So where does that leave the actual performers?
For what it’s worth, each act delivered a set worthy of the live experience – not just a sonic advertisement for their contributions on Fresh Filter Vol. 1.
Tandems ’91 opened the show, burdened with the difficult task of pumping up a crowd right out of their weekly grind. The group comes across like a gimmick band at first, with their affected preppy outfits and the air of eager fresh grads – as if Vampire Weekend had been formed at the Ateneo. But forget about their looks – there’s a genuine heart to their laptop soul. Channeling retro New Wave pop elements, the sound they coaxed out of their pads and controllers would not be out of place at a prom scene in a John Hughes movie. By the time they worked in familiar samples from “Careless Whisper” and The Eraserheads’ “Toyang”, they had won over the jam-packed venue.
In fact, their whole cyborg pop vibe pretty much set the tone for the evening, with electronics being a normalized part of the sound. Of all the acts on the lineup, it’s Autotelic whose songwriting hews most closely to the kind of straightforward, radio-friendly verse/chorus/verse structure that rockist critics hold so dear, and yet their sound is textured by Eric Tubon’s synth lines.
Up next were Flying Ipis, whose angular dance punk set the apart as the only group without any type of keyboard. It was almost like the inverse of what the other bands were doing – creating frenetic disco beats and danceable hooks with a traditional guitar, bass, and drum setup. The highlight was a newer song “Half Brain” with a memorable sing-along refrain – “You and I won’t be denied” – that could well be interpreted as an anthem for marriage equality in the Philippines.
After that, Moonwlk made their return to SaGuijo. Let’s put aside the TMZ-esque speculation about the reasons for the duo’s long hiatus. Whatever alleged drama happened between Nick Trinidad and Gabbi Buencamino, it seemingly had the benefit of intensifying their well-crafted electronic pop.
It’s worth noting that Nick’s laptop was fiercely emblazoned with a decal that said “REAL INSTRUMENT”. Maybe the producer doth protest too much? The pair led the crowd in a gender-split call-and-response of “Right now!” (women) and “Not yet!” (men) during “Your Electric Kiss Is Late Always”. The audience followed like a congregation to their minister. With a reaction like that, the defensive posturing seems a bit uncalled for.
Yolanda Moon’s smoothed-out Prince-ly indie soul felt like a comedown after the high of Moonwlk, but it was no less captivating. Singer Cholo Hermosa started things off from behind a keyboard decked out in blue Christmas lights. His vocal melodies hinted at middle-of-the-road yacht rock influences – and it felt more like self-confident attempt to broaden musical horizons than ironic appropriation. It seemed fitting, given how much the whole Fresh Filter Vol. 1 project is about embracing whole-heartedly the format of an earlier generation.
The final slot was reserved for cult favorites Cheats, and they’re tighter than ever. By now, they’ve just owned the whole Broken Social Arcade Stars comparisons, and focused on making that sound more cohesive. Their fans don’t mind that the group wears their Canadian indie rock influences on their proverbial sleeves, and just enjoy it for what it’s worth. All the familiar crowd-pleasers like “Crash” and “Accidents” resulted in fierce shoutalongs during the high-speed breakdowns.
youtube
At the end of the night, the Fresh Filter Vol. 1 gig was a study in contrasts. It showcased artists using the tools of the bedroom producer age – midi controllers, laptops, digital synths – to replicate or even fine-tune the sounds of previous eras. It’s easy to write this off as retro faux nostalgia, but ironically, the reason so much 20th century pop music is so accessible is precisely because it’s so readily available over the web.

april come she will.
Wasn’t able to write last month’s Spongkify which I'm bummed about because March was actually filled with new music discoveries and obsessions. Nonetheless I will talk about them because I’ve been itching to, but maybe I’ll do it some other time. For now, I wanna talk about stuff that went down during this month of April. Sorry for the corny title, I thought it seemed apt. Plus that Simon & Garfunkel song is pretty good, not gonna lie.
For starters, I took a leave of absence from university. I’ve been meaning to do so since last semester but I decided to push through with my sophomore year anyway since I wanted to be productive during my leave but I hadn’t planned anything yet. But whoever's controlling my simulation revels in spontaneity and loves to catch me off-guard, so due to personal reasons I had to forcibly take a leave. Anyway, it’s not bad as I made it sound. I hated school. I was more than fine with this outcome. I’ve been on a job hunt recently and I’ve been selling some of my old stuff to make extra money while I’m at it.
Really though, the actual highlight of the month is my very first gig of this year and of my life(!!!) I went to see one of my favorite indie Filipino bands She’s Only Sixteen in saGuijo Bar, Makati.
[Bassist Anjo flipping off their guitarist Andrew]
I don’t think you understand how much this means to me. Ever since I was a kid I’ve dreamt of going home to the Philippines to experience the indie/alternative scene in the country that is practically non-existent in the UAE. Dubai didn’t have that kind of grit. I’ve always craved for it m, and this was my first taste. The bar was filled with patrons and frequents and it made me feel slightly left out (more than the fact that I came alone, which I’ll elaborate later) but I was there for the music first and foremost. The "story" was that I was supposed to go with my sister but she didn’t get to book her ticket early even after I reminded her way too many times to do it as soon as possible (If she didn't want to go, she shouldn't have beat around the bush). I told my two friends who I thought would be interested but they acknowledged my message too late so they didn't get their tickets either.
And so it was a big bummer, yes, that I went to my first ever gig alone. I worked up the courage to join a group of friends so I wouldn’t be seen as a pathetic loner (even though I was convinced I could get through the night by myself) and the two kind angels they were, my god. They ordered beer(s) for me and said it was on them. Another guy who I stood beside with during the other bands’ performance even gave me the rest of his pack after I only asked for one.
I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn’t in a dream. Heaven, perhaps? No, I was still at Guijo. Quaint and cramped saGuijo... where unusually nice people reside, apparently.
It was one of the best experiences of my life and I’ve never been so glad to have gone alone. More than the fact that this was my first gig and of my favorite Filipino band, I also didn't chicken out (which, believe me, I was seriously considering at that time). I kick my social anxiety in the ass and it's why I'm here, currently writing about this fond memory.
Might be slightly overreacting here, but the thought of attending more gigs in the future really gave me more will to live. Seriously. This experience slid in a bit of optimism in the dread of adulthood.
It’s crazy how the "impostor syndrome" can make you feel old at 20, but I remember telling the girls I sat with at the bar my age and they practically cooed at how young I was. It then occurred to me how much I have ahead of me. It made me feel some sort of pride as a young adult.
I might have grown up too fast as a kid. I thought I knew things and thought I was capable of understanding things that an average kid didn’t and wouldn't (and perhaps shouldn't), but at the end of the day I was just that - I was just a kid. And this, right now, is literally just the beginning. Like, dude, you've only recently become of legal age. What's the rush?
I'm living the kind of experiences younger me used to look forward to. Perhaps being an adult isn't so bad... at least for now.
#saguijo bar#ramblings#adulting#social anxiety#no structure just vibes#constantly reminding myself i can just write without having to think about it too much#like ok the conclusion is anticlimactic#but who cares#rianecdotes

When I say “workout,” I really do mean all physical exercises other than running. Before this coronavirus pandemic, I’ve mostly worked out at home. Yes, I’ve availed of a gym membership and found enjoyment in going to one, but this has happened only twice. And these two occasions, they were brief and far between. To illustrate: the first time I had ever set foot in a gym was right after college, around 2009. I went to that gym for about five months and then stopped. The next time would be nine years later, when I moved back home to begin my life as a UPLB academic. But this time, I’d only go to the same gym for three months.
While I did and still do appreciate the equipment variety and quality, the cool temperature, and the very idea of carving out time and headspace to exercise, which most gyms are able to offer its clients, I’ve always found it difficult to buy into the lifestyle. And over the course of the last ten years, I’ve wondered long and hard as to why. Today, I’m attempting to narrow it down to three things:
Running. I often tell my friends that running has saved my life. I don’t mean to be hyperbolic about it. This, on a biological level, is accurate. As someone who’s had to manage anxiety disorders since childhood, I know this to be a fair statement. Running regularly has allowed me to traverse the high wire that life is. And sure, it was on a treadmill that I started running (and liking it), but it was never going to be where I’d stay running. It’s like how cyclers don’t reinstall their training wheels. The whole point of getting them in the first place is to be able do without them later on. The treadmill acted as my training wheels. I hopped on determined to eventually be off of it. Since running became my exercise, the one sport that I had, with great purpose, weaved into the fabric of my identity, the gym and all its other equipment soon felt peripheral. And I wasn’t going to keep paying money for something that I’d, time and again, view as peripheral.
Money. My 2009 gym membership was paid for by mother as a college graduation gift. I was grateful, but I knew it wasn’t going to be forever. There was some expectation, as I was fresh out of college at this point, that I would eventually earn to pay my keep. And while I knew good physical health was necessary and important, I quickly realized that gyms weren’t. Not necessarily. They were means to an end, and costly means they were. So, when I could no longer swallow my pride, I stopped going. I shifted my focus on running, which at that point I was already falling in love with. I made UPLB campus my gym. I landed a job, eventually. And gym fees would never again fit into my budget. As I invested some money, little by little, on things like dumbbells, jumping ropes, and running clothes and shoes, it became crystal clear that I could do without gym access because (1) I really don’t need it and (2) I couldn’t afford it. Even when I found myself working in the Metro, many years later, and would pass all these posh gyms on my way home, I never ended up seriously considering them. Other things would always come up as more important.
Philosophy. On the first night that I got to hang with Dylan’s friends in Manila, we walked past this construction site on the way to SaGuijo. It was after dinnertime and the construction workers were preparing to retire. One of them had his shirt off and was displaying his chiseled body, cuts illumined by the fluorescent bulb above him. I remember being tagged by Dylan, cued by the sight of this hot construction worker, to share with his friends my ideas about gym-going. I told them what I had told Dylan earlier, that I found it quite ironic that many construction workers get paid to do manual labor and, as a consequence, get to exercise and develop a nice physique, while white collar workers (who go to the gym) have to pay to exercise and be healthy, and, if they’re really determined, develop a nice physique. This was something that I had thought about in my first few months, that time already half a decade ago, at my gym. It hadn’t taken long for me to begin wondering about what I was doing, and why only rich (and/or connected) people went to the gym with me. The more I thought about it, the more I found it ridiculous that I had to pay in order to be healthy and physically active. While for laborers, the work was to lift sacks of cement to build something, the office workers pay to lift iron discs to use what would otherwise be unused muscles. If my job, diet, and lifestyle were so great, then why was I overweight? Why was I struggling? Why was it a good job if it kept me glued to a chair seven hours a day? This to me said so much about how we’ve evolved to define “work” the way we do today, and why manual and physical labor is often frowned upon as menial and low-paying. This also makes sense when I think about physical education classes being excluded from grades computations. Why? Are cerebral tasks necessarily more important than being physically fit? Aren’t those things tied? It also says so much about how we’ve capitalized on these gaps. Again, it seems absurd—if one were to sit down and really think about it—to be working so hard to be able to pay for gym fees and medical care once our health deteriorates because of the kind of inert work that most of us are taught to value and have to do. It is with this philosophy that I decide, each time I get the opportunity to, to not to be part of this culture and commit to making the most of home workouts.
To my friends, I advocate working out at home. I do feel it’s the most compatible for many, if not all of them. But I would understand if they find going to the gym the best choice that they have. I’m sure some of them have thought about it as much as I have, maybe even more. Still, in general, the incentive system to be healthy in our current setup is not that great. Those who have more means, who enjoy more privileges are more likely to be fitter. Even I, just by having ample space for home workouts, already outprivilege so many. Unfortunately, the incentive system is similar for food. Eating more healthy (organic, vegan, whole) is seen as more expensive. Less healthy choices like highly processed foods are relatively cheaper and more accessible. Not to mention education, which allows us to make better food choices. This is were some of our healthy construction workers would lose. In this scenario, as in too many others, it is those with less that are disadvantaged. I digress, I know. I’m afraid more of this must be for another sad and sobering blog entry.
I’ll maintain, though, that if one wants to be fit, going to the gym is not the only option and certainly not the cheapest. The first few months of the pandemic have proven this, as most of my friends went on to do their exercises at home.
I can’t speak for them, but me—I’m relieved I no longer have to shower before working out, to commute, to find a nearby parking space, to wait for an equipment to free up, to suffer feeling looked at and judged. Mostly, though, I'm glad I don't have to pay to be motivated to move about. And I guess this setup has been working out well for me because exercise has always been a solitary thing for me, like how I prefer running by myself because it gives me a chance to hear my own thoughts, count my own breath, and communicate with my body.
Over the years—and there have been many—the equipment count at home has steadily increased. Just a few months ago, a stationary bike and a pull-up bar were added to my arsenal, thanks to my brother’s efforts. Last week, I purchased the very first pair of training shoes I’ve ever owned. They’re sure to give my running shoes (the wrong pair for lateral movements during HIIT) a nice break from indoor exercises. And these new kicks have been so far great, and I’m looking forward to working out with them for years, in the comfort of my own home.

I waited for almost 2 years for Danger Days, MCRmy’s gig night for My Chemical Romance’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. It finally happened last Saturday night and I drank my ass off with Smirnoff Mule and fucking puke in the bathroom for 5 times and sat down by the curb outside Saguijo Bar trying to get myself together as my world was spinning hard.
It was my first gig in a year so I was eager to enjoy myself but apparently I wasn’t the same as before. Dati pag nagbabar-gig kami sobrang lasing ko palagi pero I never get sick nang sobra and I redeem myself naman. This time, I don’t know what happened. Siguro dahil nga di narin ako nakakainom nang sobra and nakakapag-gig nang madalas kaya nabigla ako hahahha tangina lang.
I missed going to bar gigs. Sobrang intimate kasi and solid yung tunog. Mika and Vera was there with me. Tinulungan ako ni Vera magsuka hahahha so grateful. I love her so much.
So ayon, tulog ako for some time. Di ako nakanuod ng tatlong bands ata hahaha tangina ko. I got better naman agad nang konti. I was able to stand up and jump up and down pag bet ko yung kanta hahahhaha.
After the gig we ate sa McDonalds and then looked for a hotel and went to bed hahaha.
It was a great night kahit na hilo ako.

JAMICH
JAMICH by Danny Caing Date Written: March 6, 2020
Scene 1 THE INSPIRATION
May 22, 2014, @ GMC Thursday Breaktime 3:28 PM
It was Thursday afternoon I was watching on the youtube channel, when I suddenly came across a program about a Girlfriend Proposes To Her Boyfriend (Jamich Proposal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N29dKoxjHf4) at Jamich TV. I was astonished and heartily touched by their dramatic performances. I thought this was just one of their show like movies of Mandy Moore's A Walk To Remember, Ali Macgraw's Love Story and Lelee Sobieski's Here On Earth. I was sad to know that Jam has lung cancer. Right there on then, I wrote the song Sabi Mo Mahal Mo Ako, and later I change the title of the song called JAMICH for Jam Sebastian and Mich Liggayu Love Team.
Scene 2 THE FIRST OFFICIAL PERFORMANCE
July 19, 2014, @ Funky Monkey Bar, Q.C. Saturday 8:32 PM
Laykern Wredd of RADYO Band contacted me on the phone and invited me to join the PINOY WOODSTUCK gig event, a night with Arts show and Musical Talents of the underground bands like Howler Flowers, Roy Antonio, Alasmedya, Malaya, Trigger Happy, Lnguaje, ANO-Pilipinas, Earpens, and an American Wallpaint Artist - RAVEN. Good music, vibes, and drinks. This was the first time I sang the song Jamich live in public.

Scene 3 THE RECORDING SESSION
August 21, 2014, @ Funky Monkey Bar, Q.C., Thursday 8:23 PM
"REMEMBER... IT'S ALL ABOUT HISTORY" by Proud & Loud Production and Rakrakan Na Tayo, featuring - Lazaro, Radyo, Laculus, Kashmir, Godzilla Versus Tokyo, Hoodlum, Danny Caing, Earpens and MAIA.
It was Norman Buena, the drummer of Hoodlum, who suggested to write as many songs as I can, record them and then post them on the internet. At that time I have composed 70 songs in which I was able to create an album called Spiral Echoes that consists of 39 songs. So, I told him that I have this new song Pila Dito Pila Doon, which might be a first good try for serious recording. After two months, we were able to set an appointment date for recording at Audiofonix Recording Studio on October 17, 2014, Friday 2:38 PM. The Studio was managed & owned by Gino Rafael of Trapeze Band. During the recording session, Norman, as the Recording Editor, proposed to me to record Jamich instead of Pila Dito Pila Doon. It took us 45 minutes to finalize Jamich acoustic song track, and then we have some pizza & drinks. I got the mp3 copy and posted it in Reverbnation (https://www.reverbnation.com/dannycaing) the following day. I wish to thank Gino & Norman for this unforgettable experience, it was an honor.
Scene 4 THE MUSIC VIDEO
February 18, 2015, @ Tremolo Music Bar, Mandaluyong City Wednesday 8:32 PM
Khakara Production and Tremolo Music Bar invited me to join the lineup performers on LOVE OUT LAUGH acoustic night gig with RJ Sun, Sacred Foyer, Gibb Capiral, Edward, Theresa Mae, Warren & Carl of Ww Are Living Aahes (WALA), Ruzkaya, Falling Debris, Raffleesia, MJ Legaspi, Talaarawan, Missing Since Thursday, and hosted by Vince Recafrente.
Joeman Papilla, Manager of Khakara Production, approached me and introduced a young student Film Director, John Angelo Sergio of Tercera Productions under VIDPROD class from Asia Pacific College, requested that his team plans to make a music video of my Jamich song as their midterm project and without hesitation, I immediately approved his request.
JOHN SERGIO: What can we give you in exchange for this favor?
DUKE: Nothing, John. I am just happy to know that you are going to make a music video of Jamich. It's awesome.
JOHN SERGIO: Thank you so much, Sir Duke. We will invite you once the music video is premiered in our school.
DUKE: I wish I could sing this song to Jam, you know.
JOHN SERGIO: That could be arranged, Sir Duke. Jam family is our neighbor and friend.
From that moment, I never thought John was serious about what he just told me. I can never forget this brief meeting.

Scene 5 THE UNEXPECTED MEETING WITH JAM
February 21, 2015, @ Mang Rudy's Grill Makati on February 21, 2015 Saturday 8:32 PM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyvvfgH3ptc
5 PM: I have a big event that night, BAWAL SIMANGOT by Red Button Production, performing live with one of my favorites underground artists- Peso Movement, Jose At Musika, Consolidar, Black Wolf Gypsies, Tree Of Soul, Crab And Corn, Danny Caing, Injent, Fiasco project, Induljencia, A Series Of Fractions, Lem David, Izkala, WetDogi, and Blackboard.
While I was rehearsing in my room and preparing my things for tonight's gig show, my cellphone rang.
JOHN SERGIO: Good afternoon, Sir Duke. I have good news for you. We have arranged your meeting with Jam tonight at 6 PM, please be there on time in the lobby of St. Luke Hospital in Global City. My mother will meet you there.
DUKE: Wow! Thank you so much, John. God is good all the time.
JOHN SERGIO: Please don't forget to bring your guitar and a letter to Jam. I told them that you are going to sing your song Jamich to Jam. Good luck and God bless.
6 PM @ St. Luke's Hospital, Global City Saturday
When I arrived in the lobby at St. Luke, Mrs. Elvi Sergio (mother of John) was already there to meet me and escorted me to Jam's room. I could not believe that I will be meeting Jam Sebastian, one of the leading men on the very popular indie film called JAMICH at YouTube. Inside the room, there were few guests, close friends & relatives of the family including Jam's mother Ma'am Maricar. Later, Mrs. Charilyn Pajo (who arranged this meeting through Ma'am Elvi) and her daughter Maria Isabel arrived with 2 Jamich fans Jalai & Joseph Ahamil. After giving my letter to Jam, I explained to him about Jesus Words to feel His Words in his thoughts and pray the Lord's Prayer. We all prayed 3 Our Fathers for Jam and asked our Lord Jesus Christ to heal Jam's sickness. I touched Jam's forehead and asked him to repeat what I was about to say:
DUKE: Jesus Christ I need You. I open the door of my heart for my Savior and my Lord. Please take control of the throne of my life and make me the kind of person you want me to be. Thank you, Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of my sins. I love You, Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ You are my personal Savior.
I could not believe I was singing Jamich in front of Jam, I tried to hold back my tears when I saw the expression of Jam's face, but I know deep in my heart, Jam will be fine in the hands of our Lord Jesus. Then, Jam requested me to sing more, so I sang one Beatle song called I NEED YOU, then the last song was one of my songs LIKE THE TUNE OF THIS SONG.

I wish to thank John Angelo Sergio, the Director of the music video JAMICH and the Tercera Production crew who were shooting that day at Hagonoy, Bulacan for making this meeting with Jam possible, John's mother Mrs. Elvi Sergio and her friend Mrs. Charilyn Pajo. It's been an honor and great pleasure to meet you Jam Sebastian and Ma'am Maricar and to all the friends, fans and love ones who were inside the room. Likewise, thank you so much, Mrs. Elvi Sergio, for taking the 3 historical live music videos. This is one of my unforgettable experiences. I love you all for a million billion years.

I was also excited that night because it was my first gig performance at SaGuijo, a well-known place for the famous underground Pilipino independent bands & artists. Suddenly, my cellphone rings and it was Goo Aurellia, Highteck Production Manager and Sentido frontman.
GOO: Good evening Sir Duke. Where are you, now?
DUKE: I'm with my brother, Goo. I'm sorry that I'm going to be late.
GOO: Press people are looking for you here, from ABS/CBN. They want an interview with you regarding your song Jamich.
DUKE: Why would they do that? What's up, Goo?
GOO: They told me that Jam Sebastian died this morning.
DUKE (something hit in my stomach): Jam. Died this morning. I'm sorry Goo, I cannot go to SaGuijo right now. I'll make this up to you. Please tell them that I cannot attend the gig tonight. I'm so sorry.
DINO (my brother): Who is Jam Sebastian, bro?
I accompanied my brother to MIA-3 that night instead. I just told him that the gig show was postponed. When my brother entered the Departure Area. I took a taxi home, while on the way to Skyway, I prayed 3 Our Father for Jam's soul to rest in peace with our Lord Jesus Christ. Jam was just almost 29 years old. Life goes on.
