ok. years have passed and we've had some distance, so i'm finally gonna take the leap of faith that tma fandom is finally ready to hear me on this. let's talk about tannins.

161 was the first tma episode i heard on early release, and i felt the bit where martin declines wine and cites tannins was pretty obvious in its implications. cool, got it, say no more.

imagine my surprise when i was one of maybe three people i saw read between the lines there, in a fandom famous for red stringing--a fandom that immediately caught the much less obvious thread of ignition sources in the same episode. i'll spell it out: alcohol is an issue for martin.

maybe it just felt obvious because addiction is a pet issue for me--as it is for jonny, who has said everything he writes is filtered through a lens of addiction. i don't know if that's due to his own experience or a loved one's, and i won't speculate; i also don't know if martin personally struggled with drinking or just avoids it for fear he would, but alcohol would fit what we know of his family. his dad walking out and his mum spiralling into bitter wallowing and verbal abuse? i'd bet one or both of them drank, yeah.

on a basic level martin tries to decline alcohol, and that alone should have raised eyebrows given what we know of martin and, again, a fandom that dissects everything. we already knew martin "K" blackwood lied about his personal life and his family in particular, especially pre-canon, which is when this flashback took place. i was shocked that everyone took his flimsy excuse at face value with no further questions.

and the excuse is flimsy. martin turns down wine by--nervously--exclaiming tannins are "a proven headache trigger!" which sounds like trivia from a magazine cover and not the words of someone who actually has headaches--and it hasn't come up before or since. jon, confused, points out that tea, a drink martin consumes to a degree that is memetic both in- and out-of-universe, also contains tannins, and martin squawks a panicked, "what?!"

if tannins are enough of a concern for martin that he knew they're in wine and so avoids it, why didn't he know they're in his drink of choice? why does he still drink tea at the time of canon, and why doesn't he struggle with constant headaches from consuming 'a proven headache trigger' day in and day out? why, indeed, would someone avoid wine and not tea?

when sasha insists martin drink he caves and agrees to 'just a drop'. i imagine him pouring it in a plant, which admittedly he could have done if tannins really were the issue. i will say that i, for one, would be less likely to falsely agree to something that makes me physically ill than to a private issue that i'd rather not be pressed on any further. this scene also establishes martin's birthday was an ice cream party instead of the more traditional visit to a pub.

also, this scene was in the first episode of the final season, as one of three flashbacks that could have been to any pre-canon event in the archives. prime narrative real estate. not really time one would waste on establishing the important character context that martin has... headaches. which never comes up before or after, even regarding the week he spent in spiral town. but you know what is pretty crucial character background...?

it felt like a no-brainer, and yet all i saw was h/c fluff about jon attending to martin's headaches. and i hate feeling bitter about disability representation. i want folks with chronic headaches to feel seen and have fluffy escapist fantasies. i don't want to be mad about people portraying a character with a disability. but, guys? you got the wrong disability. jonny sent a clear message, and it went over fandom's head.

In Majora's Mask, there is a mentioned Goddess of Time. It is likely that this goddess is Hylia. She is - like TotK Zelda - a being with dominion over both Light and Time. Her light power allowed for the forging of the Master Sword and her Sealing Power, whereas her time power allowed the creation of the Gate of Time and the preparations of trials for a hero who did not yet exist.

"A frontal lobotomy, huh?"

The metal pick was centimeters away from her eyeball, while she calculated where it would land on her brain. She looked at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, unimpressed. "What's so wrong about it?"

"Didn't think you were the person to get high, that's all." He leaned on the bathroom frame, crossing his arms and shrugging it off.

"You know how out of everyone how hard it gets being yourself all the time." It was now inside her eye. It had become such a common thing for Sage, she could do it in autopilot. The metal was cold next to her sclera, but relaxing in a way. "Like being high, it's merely-"

"Temporary. I heard you with the Deep." He looked to the ground, to his boots, pretend to kick something. "Disgusting, by the way."

The metal hammer. Clank clank. Scramble around. She felt immediately relaxed, like the world had become more quiet. She took it out, a bit of blood coming from her eye.

She had become more sleepy, and giggly. Sage turned to him, saying: "Well, if it flatters you I was merely using him to betray you later on." She smiled, from ear to ear.

Homelander scoffed; the mere idea of it sounded ridiculous. The fish-fucking guy was obsessed with him, scared shitless of him. "Deep wouldn't betray me."

"You don't know what that guy does for pussy."

"Still, I think you should have come up with a better plan to stab me in the back." He leaned and grabbed a piece of toilet paper, walking close to her.

Homelander tilted her face to the side, gently, like she was made out of porcelain, and cleaned up the blood coming from her eye. The gloves in her chin were comforting. Sage knew, better than anyone, what those hands of his could do. Crush human skulls, break limbs apart.

She knew what he been through with Stillwell; the sex, the praise kink, his oedipus complex. Sage couldn't actually believe he still had it in him, the calming nature of a predator. She was almost never surprised, but when it came to him..

"How would you go about betraying me?" She said almost in a whisper, while she holded his wrist, while he was still cleaning up the blood from her, and looked deep into his icy blue eyes.

Homelander smirked, and leaned into her ear, and softly grabbed her shoulders. "I would go on live television, tell everybody how you fucking murdered those hometeamers to incriminate Starlight." He was whispering, making sure nobody else would hear it, only Sage, trying to intimidate her. She could feel his breath on her ear "How I didn't knew any of it, how I couldn't believe a friend of mine would do that to me. Then I would take you to the lab to end up like the orders." He leaned back and smiled innocently. They were centimeters away from each other. He was so close to her, she could feel his body warmth.

"It has potential." She arched her eyebrows, almost to say she was impressed. "But you wouldn't do that."

"How come?"

"If you wanted it, you would have done it already. I am way too useful of a tool to you." She stated, simply. Like it was obvious.

Everytime they talked, it was like a simple game of chess. Only she was a thousand steps ahead of him. That was her checkmate.

"You know something I find very fascinating about, well, you?"

"What is it?" Her voice came in a whisper.

"Your.. heartrate." He stated it simply, and furrowed his brows, like trying to gasp that concept, like it sounded alien to him. "It never increases. Like- like never." He gestured around. "You should be terrified of me. You don't even have proper powers, for God's sake." He scoffed and laughed around, bewildered. "You're nothing, but yet.."

"Yet here I am." Her dark brown eyes were pure black when looking back at his light blue eyes. He couldn't read Sage, her body language told him nothing, absolutely nothing.

For once, he was terrified. But curious.

She smiled and looked down, touching at where his glove started. "Can I?" He nodded childshly, like a mom scraped knee. It was like when Ashley asked him if he was fired and he immediately glanced at Sage for approval. Homelander's need to be bossed around, otherwise he is so, completely, absolutely lost in this horrible world. He doesn't know what to do when left alone.

Sage took off his glove and put it beside her in the sink, where she was leaning on. He watched every movement of her, not uttering a word. How come such a petite, fascinating woman could leave a God completely at his mercy?

She placed his -now ungloved- hand in her breast. Sage knew his senses were all heightened, so he could hear her heartbeats, but now he could feel them too. "How do I feel, Homelander?" She tilted her head. Sage was toying with him, and he completely feel for it. He was no better than the Deep in that situation too. He was trapped in a black widow's trap.

"You are.. calm. I mean, you did just perform a lobotomy on yourself too." He tried to look away from her, he couldn't bear to look at her.

"I did." Sage chuckled, and followed his gaze. "But does it feel so much different than our other encounters?"

"No. It doesn't."

"Good."

I know I’m hyper fixating on a new fandom when I start making polycules lol.

So basically after the The Magnus Archives finale, Jon and Martin get transported to the Construct and basically end up speed running most of the game awaking The Shifting Mound and The Long Quiet early and then four set off and travel together.

I also like to think they find a baby abandoned in the woods near a village with extra eyes, possibly marked by the Eye, like Jon and they all collectively decide to raise this baby together, who will fit in perfectly with their new not-so-human family.

(The purple mean crushes, pink means dating and blue means just friends.)

Jon’s crush on The Shifting Mound is one sided for now, while The Princess and Martin are mutual crushing on each other though of course only Jon knows that. The Long Quiet has a crush on Jon, and Jon also fancies The Long Quiet. The Long Quiet and The Shifting Mound are dating and Jon and Martin are dating. Martin and The Long Quiet are good friends :3

Queen Sonia became like a mother figure to Zelda for multiple reasons. Beyond just the blood relation, Queen Sonia resembled her mother and filled the role she was meant to have when Zelda had to learn her Sealing Power. Being a priestess, Sonia showed Zelda many sacred sites and traditions of the Ancient Hyrule. Zelda was at first uncomfortable; she was in a white ceremonial robe, once more hoping for a power she had no control over to show itself... But soon, she realized she wasn't alone this time. Sonia's presence helped Zelda to heal and reconcile with that part of her history, just a little bit. Perhaps once she even confided in Sonia regarding it... and the queen's patience was just the thing she needed to hear.
