Your New Lab Rat: A Guide for Whumpers Scientists
CW: Lab whump, dehumanization, implied captivity, torture, non-sexual nudity, and restraints
Congratulations on your new lab rat! This is a big step in any scientist's career, and in this helpful guide I'll walk you through getting your subject prepared for experimentation. I know you're excited and want to jump right into the science, but trust me, the proper prep work is essential.
First things first, you need to call your lab rat something. The following are some of the most common names, but feel free to be creative!
Subject (my personal favorite)
Specimen
Asset
An ID number
Their species
Did you pick out a name? Excellent! The next step is to strip away the rest of their dignity. I know this might seem a bit harsh, but it's the best way to ensure your subject cooperates, and you need their cooperation to get that sweet, sweet data you're after. Take away all their possessions, even their clothes. You can give them some scrubs or a hospital gown if you want, or you can just leave them nude. If they argue or cry, just ignore them. There's always an adjustment period when a subject enters a lab, it'll pass quickly.
Your next steps will vary based on the temperament of your subject. If your subject is docile, you might not need to do anything further in preparation and can jump right into experimenting. However, some subjects exhibit aggression, which is unproductive to data collection. You will have to tame them. There are a wide variety of techniques that can be used, so consider the resources at your disposal. Note that you do not want to cause irreparable harm to your subject at this stage. Here's a list of popular disciplinary techniques to consider:
Shock collar
Withholding food, sleep, etc.
Isolation/solitary confinement
Stress positions
Sedatives
And of course, give positive reinforcement when your subject completes a wanted behavior. Most subjects are eager to please once they understand that they will be rewarded for cooperation. Your subject will be behaving themself in no time!
Finally it's time to start your experiments. Stick to the scientific method, and remember results must be replicable to stand up to peer review. That means that you'll need to run the same experiment on your subject multiple times, and preferably have other subjects to compare them to.
A note on safety: even the best trained subject can act out if in pain. I always recommend the use of restraints during experimentation for your own safety. Additionally, always make sure you are wearing the proper PPE. Gloves, safety goggles, lab coat, hazmat suit, etc. Make sure you protect yourself!
Science is hard work, but by preparing your subject beforehand it will be that much easier. Whatever your research goals, I wish you and your subject good luck!
If you decide to write your own lab rat whumpee, consider submitting to The Whumpboratory, our lab whump-themed anthology! Submissions are open until July 31, 2024. More info here!

PSA from the Alolan rangers
This year, due to unusual cosmic activity, worm holes are going to be frequent, and this corresponds to a predicted rise in ultra beast sightings. The rangers have released information on how to keep yourself safe during the next 8 months until the wormholes die down:
Travel in groups and keep alert. We recommend keeping your pokemon out of their balls if feasible.
Familiarize yourself with the cries of ultrabeasts. [A link to a government website is attached with a soundbank of recorded ultrabeast noises]
If you are deaf or HOH, all service pokemon trained in Alola recently are trained to recognize these sounds, but if you have an older service pokemon or are from out of the region, the Deaf Society of Alola will be happy to loan you a trained pokemon for the duration.
Download the ranger alert app for your rotom dex or rotom phone in case of an encounter or sighting. Remember, it is a $5000 fine for making a false report.
Avoid unnecessary travel during this event. If you are someone who works with wormholes or has travelled through or been very close to one, we recommend leaving the region for the duration if you can or increasing security if this is not an option, due to the likelihood of ultrabeasts approaching you.
Ultrabeasts are frequently startled and confused by their sudden arrival here, and are much more likely to be aggressive or reactive. Do not engage ANY ultrabeast. Avoid eye contact and remain still.
Avoid picking up litter with your bare hands, particularly paper litter that seems folded.
Keep an eye on the skies.
If you find dead wild pokemon that have been drained of fluids, vacate the area immediately.
If you feel dizzy, confused or sleepy, leave the area. Pheremosa may be present. Wear a good quality n-95 mask to provide decent protection.
Avoid power plants if you aren't an employee there. If you are an employee, pay close attention to safety briefings and wear all provided PPE. If your employer is not providing PPE, anonymous reports can be made to the authorities here [A link is provided]
Avoid large forested areas and remain alert for a long, low rumbling noise. Stay away from unexplained wild fires.
Obey all evacuation alerts sent out, and keep a survival kit packed with clean clothes, important documents other necessities. A comprehensive list of essential items can be found at the Alolan governments website.
Avoid coming unto contact with naganadel toxin. This toxin is purple and slightly bioluminescent, with a sharp, bitter smell. It's powerfully adhesive and can quickly cause breathing difficulties. If accidental contact occurs, vinegar has been shown to begin breaking it down. Apply white vinegar to the area and contact emergency services.
Make note of stone walls in your area, and report if new ones appear with no signs of construction workers.
Stay safe and don't be a hero.

Today at the end of our shift we had to attend a meeting "Construction site and control of PPE" The company has established permanent control of PPE, with one of the penalties and sanctions, we have had information on this subject
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end we were given a kit and had to place them under the supervision of our managers at our equipment
Tumblr media
You can no longer clean the clothes due to tags. There will be a gantry which will control all your PPE to access the site, if you are missing any, you will lose the allocation for wearing PPE, and you will have to rent for the day the PPE that you are missing which will be deducted from the salary.
Tumblr media
Then camera controllers via AI ensure the proper use of PPE, in the event of infringement one hour of work will be deducted from the day
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For example, not wearing work gloves .
You will quickly learn to respect the safety rules and the wearing of PPE, another concern, in the event of infringement you will be assigned to more difficult and dirty tasks.

its weird being in feminist spaces online bc on the one hand, we all understand that women have womens shelters because they actually worked towards gathering resources and opening these physical spaces. like they did actual work and didnt just wax poetic about the necessity. but then you have discourse about womens clothes and its like. you guys know there ARE brands out there creating functional clothing for the female form, right? and they end up shutting down due to lack of support? because we arent putting any action behind our words? and are just wishing good womens clothing into existence? like there are no mens shleters bc men didnt make shelters. there are no good female clothing brands because we 1) dont make them and if we do, 2) they dont get enough patronage to stay afloat. so yea guys, keep making tumblr posts about the lack of functional female clothing instead of seeking out and supporting those businesses. ill keep wearing my dads hand-me-downs because im economically and ecologically based.
Tumblr media
Ooh anon we're playing with fire here... Alright everybody, feelings caps off and critical thinking caps on. This is in reference to a post I made a few nights ago about how I don't quite believe how many women claim they are incapable of wearing men's section clothes, a post which was itself in reference to another post that made the rounds on tumblr earlier this year. I wrote it after having had six beers and I'll be the first to admit, it was pretty inflammatory and worded in a way that lead a few people to reply defensively and angrily, so I turned off RBs and deleted it when I woke up the next day as damage control. The general gist of my post was that there are shitloads of options in the men's section that are far comfier with better quality materials than women's section clothes, that oversized clothes are easily adjusted for functionality ie. rolling up cuffs and wearing a belt, and that I think a lot of the women claiming they couldn't possibly wear men's section clothing are maybe just unwilling to "look bad," but again I wrote it in a way that obviously would not inspire good faith interaction with those whose choices I criticized. I'd like to take the opportunity to try again with this ask.
First of all, I also had a couple people say that they've had to wear the men's uniform at their job and it was ill-fitting and sucked. Of course I'm not arguing that women should not be accounted for in creating work equipment and PPE omfg, that's not what I'm talking about at all! That's a matter of safety and equality in employment, completely not what I'm saying. And I'm also not saying that women SHOULDN'T have clothes that are comfortable, functional, and properly fitting that are made with them in mind. We should be demanding this! What I am saying is that... we don't have that right now. Anon points out that there are businesses that have tried to do this and couldn't find enough patronage to stay afloat. Of course I want these clothing manufacturers to succeed, it would be the best case scenario, but in the mean time, we have two options: uncomfortable, flimsy, revealing, shit-ass-material that won't keep you warm women's clothes; and men's clothes that are possibly ill-fitting.
From the replies I did get, sounds like the biggest problem is with the hips to waist ratio, in men's pants the waist is too big when the hips fit. Yes, I get it! But I was also surprised to learn how many women are completely opposed to wearing belts?? I always thought belts were a wardrobe staple for most everyone, my Mom always wears one, I've been wearing one when necessary since middle school age. But happily for the non-belt-wearers, I've discovered that many men's pants actually have drawstrings, sometimes they're inside behind the buttons and zipper, so you can make them as tight or loose as you like. I have four pairs of pants like this, I wear them to work where I walk around and bring heavy things up and down stairs all day, they are sooo comfyyy.
The other thing is all my pants are from the men's now, and I have to tell you: sizing discrepancy is popularly framed solely as a women's clothing issue, but it's not really. Last week I bought two pairs of men's jeans from the thrift store, both size 34, without trying them on. One pair fits quite tightly around my thighs to the point that I will probably only wear them to events and not all day at work, while the other is the perfect size and so comfy I could sleep in them (don't worry, I won't.) It's trial and error all around when it comes to finding clothes that fit properly. There's not One Shape of men's pants. The changing room is your friend! Hang out in thrift stores long enough and you will absolutely find items that fit you wonderfully and feel comfortable.
So then we come to my main point: There are a lot of women who claim that men's clothes are just too big for them to wear and therefore they must resort to women's section clothes which supposedly fit them so much better... *FROM MY POINT OF VIEW* it seems a sort of convenient excuse to look the way a patriarchal society wants you to, in the same way that "sensory issues around body hair" is now a common stated reason to continue shaving and participating in sexist beauty culture without having to examine why you feel compelled to do so. I think when some women say they're unable to wear men's clothes, it's because they can't wear men's clothes and look as conventionally "good" as they do in women's clothes. And it's true, men's clothes are gonna be a bit looser and a bit more formless, but men aren't expected to be shrink-wrapped into their outfit like women are anyway. I understand the pressure to "look good," often women are treated poorly when they don't, but it's in your best interest and in the best interest of other women to resist that sexist pressure, or at least question it honestly.
Do I think you're a bad person for choosing to wear exclusively women's section clothes, absolutely not. I don't think women who shave or wear makeup or heels are bad people either. But I do think it's worth examining why you really feel like you couldn't branch out from the women's section.
Men's pants have a baggier crotch and ass area, but women's pants are often so tightly compact in the crotch that they can cause gynaecological problems. Men's shirt sleeves are quite roomy and may need rolling up, but many women's t-shirts have tiny sleeves that pinch your arms and draw your attention to the fact that your arm fat is being compressed. Men's pants can be quite long for a short woman, but cuffing them is simple: like anon said you can easily hem them, and if you don't sew like me, you can literally just cut them shorter and roll up the cuffs twice and KABOOM they become as short as you like. I want to reiterate that I do think women deserve to have clothes that are made with their comfort in mind, and I hope we do someday soon. But with the options we do have, there is a clear winner in terms of functionality, dignity, and quality. Men's clothes are made to be worn, women's clothes are made to adorn, decorate, be looked at.
Last point, when I hear someone say they're just too short or fat for men's section clothes... I can't believe them because I have seen A LOT of short and fat women wearing men's section clothes and doing just fine. You all have never met a short and/or fat butch lesbian? Ever? They look damn good in men's section clothing. I have a coworker who is 4'11" and shops 50/50 mens and womens clothes including pants. Like... I'm seeing short women wear mens clothes with slight alterations and zero problems. I really believe you can do it too. I believe!!!
In the end, I'm just a random tumblr blogger typing on my random tumblr blog, and you the reader have no obligation to take anything I say with more than a grain of salt. Try not to take this post personally, I'm not out to attack you. If your reasoning is simply "I don't want to," I can respect that and we don't have to agree. I think we can all agree the clothing situation for women generally sucks. If anyone including this Anon has recommendations for companies who make clothing that is legitimately created for women with women's bodies in mind, please let me know and I'll boost! Perhaps we can make a difference with our wallets.

Recently seen another wave of people getting into resin casting hobbies and it stresses me the hell out so this is going to be a PSA
IF YOU ARE USING RESIN YOU NEED PROPER PPE
Resin is nasty stuff and just because it's sold in hobby kits now doesn't mean it's safe. Unfortunately a lot of resins marketed to casting craft hobbies will be marked as "non-toxic/low VOC/safe to use at home" however this can mean anything from 'fairly harmless' to 'slightly less toxic than some other resins'. Don't let anyone tell you you don't need PPE while using resin.
So lets talk about resin allergies
The components in resin and it's hardeners and dilutants are all powerful irritants and sensitisers. This means obviously they can irritate your skin and airways if you come into contact with them or breathe in the fumes, but this also means that you can build up a sensitivity over time. Because of this you can develop a severe reaction over time, you might have your first reaction to resin on the first day you use it, or you might develop an allergy after several years of using it. The more you use resin the more likely you are to develop an allergy.
The reaction is most often a form of dermatitis which could present as redness, ichiness, irritation, swelling, or even skin blisters. Fumes can also cause breathing difficulties and other complications, and with some resins these may be present in significant quantities up to a week after the resin has cured.
In the absolute worst case if you develop a severe epoxy allergy (or allergy to other related compounds) you may be restricted from using a significant percentage of glues and paints, you will need to tell your dentist before you have any work done, you may even be unable to use things like vinyl or plastic handbags. And that's not even the half of it.
So what can you do about it?
The best way to protect yourself from a resin allergy is the proper PPE. Always read any safety materials that come with the resin (these should be inclued with the resin, but you may have to check the manufactureres or sellers website).
Only use resin in a well ventilated space, preferably outdoors, DO NOT DO THIS IN YOUR BEDROOM or any other room you are spending a lot of time in, just because you cannot smell fumes doesn't mean they're not there. If you don't have a suitable space you will need to build a fumes tent: instructions here.
Use NITRILE gloves (latex gloves won't cut it)
USE A RESPIRATOR! You will need either a half face respirator and safety glasses or a full face respirator, and it will need to be able to filter organic gasses and vapors. Make sure your mask fits correctly and air isn't getting in through the sides, and check how often you need to change your filters. (note - you should also have one of these for things like spray painting)
Make sure you're wearing long sleeves/as much skin is covered as possible. If you get resin on your clothing it will ruin them so having dedicated old clothing for working with resin is a good idea.
keep your workspace clean and have materials to mop us spillages on hand so you can minimise the risk of cross contamination.
If you do get resin on your skin wash it off with soap and water immedaitely (you can also get special soaps that are more effective for washing it off of skin)
Finally just do your own research, this sounds silly but it's your own health (and possibly the health of anyone else or any pets living with you) that's at risk here, so make sure you understand the safety implication of the materials you're using.
Please don't take this post as the be all and end all, I've almost definitely forgotten something and this is just intended to be a starting point

Pyrophoric Chemical Safety
Any chemical that catches fire spontaneously when exposed to air (at or below 130F (54.4C)) can be classified as a pyrophoric chemical, though only those that do so in under 5min are classified as such under GHS guidelines. These can include solids, liquids, and gases. Because pyrophoric chemicals are reacting with the oxygen in the air, they are also typically water reactive. As will all general guidelines, specifics can vary from chemical to chemical, however, the following is typically true of handling pyrophoric chemicals. Individuals should wear flame-resistant lab coats/PPE and clothing made from polyester or other synthetic fabrics should be avoided. Pyrophoric chemicals are considered hazardous and should be treated as such during storage, handling (typically in a fume hood or glove box), and disposal. Examples of pyrophoric chemicals include alkali metals (e.g., potassium, sodium), metal powders, metal carbonyls, and many hydrides.

The Essential Guide to IFR Coveralls: A Humanized Perspective on Manufacturing Excellence
In the arena of private protective gadget (PPE), few items are as vital as the flame-resistant coverall, specifically those who meet the stringent requirements of IFR (Inherently Flame Resistant). These clothes are lifesavers, presenting a vital layer of safety for workers in excessive-chance industries like oil and gasoline, firefighting, and electrical utilities. But what is going into the making of an IFR coverall? Who are the human beings behind these crucial products, and what drives them to make sure the very best requirements of protection and exceptional? Let’s take a better look.
The Importance of IFR Coveralls
Before diving into the producing procedure, it’s vital to understand why IFR coveralls are so critical. These garments are designed to resist ignition and self-extinguish if uncovered to flame, reducing the hazard of significant harm. Unlike treated flame-resistant fabrics, IFR substances are inherently flame-resistant, which means their protective traits are built into the cloth itself and could no longer wash or put on out over the years. This durability and reliability are important in environments where every 2d counts.
The Human Element in Manufacturing
Manufacturing IFR coveralls is a complex technique that combines advanced era with skilled craftsmanship. But at its heart, it is a human enterprise. From the preliminary design segment to the final great tests, dedicated experts paintings tirelessly to make sure that each coverall meets the very best standards.
Design and Development
The journey of an IFR coverall starts within the layout room. Here, skilled designers and engineers collaborate to create garments that aren’t only functional however additionally cushty and sensible. They keep in mind each detail, from the kind of material to the position of seams and wallet, ensuring that the coveralls provide most safety without restricting motion.
One key issue of the design system is being attentive to the quit-customers — the workers who put on those coveralls day in and time out. Feedback from the field is precious, because it offers real-world insights into what works and what doesn’t. By incorporating this comments, designers could make continuous enhancements to their products, enhancing both safety and person comfort.
Material Selection
Choosing the proper fabric is essential for IFR coveralls. Manufacturers rely upon exquisite, inherently flame-resistant fabrics along with Nomex or Aramid Base fabric. These substances are sourced from professional suppliers who adhere to strict requirements of high-quality and safety.
Selecting the fabric is not pretty much flame resistance; other elements like durability, breathability, and simplicity of care are also taken into consideration. Workers want clothes which could face up to harsh conditions, offer consolation in diverse climates, and preserve their defensive features over the years.
Cutting and Sewing
Once the layout is finalized and the material decided on, the producing process movements to the cutting and sewing section. This is where skilled artisans take over, the usage of both computerized and guide strategies to cut the cloth into specific patterns and stitch them collectively.
The slicing technique requires precision to minimize waste and make certain consistency in each piece. Advanced slicing machines are often used to acquire this level of accuracy, however human oversight is essential to capture any capacity problems early on.
Sewing is a meticulous project that demands interest to element. Each seam have to be sturdy and steady, as susceptible points can compromise the garment’s integrity. Workers in this segment take incredible satisfaction of their craftsmanship, understanding that their work immediately influences the protection of others.
Quality Control
Quality manage is possibly the maximum crucial level in the production procedure. Every IFR coverall undergoes rigorous trying out to make sure it meets enterprise standards and regulatory necessities. This includes flame resistance assessments, strain assessments, and sturdiness exams.
But satisfactory manage isn’t just about meeting standards; it’s approximately exceeding them. Manufacturers purpose to supply products that inspire confidence and believe. To obtain this, they enforce more than one layers of best tests, from analyzing uncooked substances to very last product reviews.
Quality manipulate groups regularly encompass pro professionals who’ve spent years honing their expertise. Their keen eyes and deep knowledge enable them to identify even the slightest imperfections, making sure that handiest the nice products make it to marketplace.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
The global of PPE is continuously evolving, pushed by advances in technology and converting enterprise wishes. IFR coverall manufacturers are committed to staying ahead of the curve thru non-stop innovation and improvement.
Research and development teams work tirelessly to discover new substances, technologies, and manufacturing strategies. Their purpose is to create even better shielding garments — ones that provide extra consolation, sturdiness, and safety.
Innovation is not pretty much massive breakthroughs; it is also about incremental upgrades. By constantly refining their procedures and products, producers can supply better solutions to the market yr after 12 months.
The People Behind the Product
At the coronary heart of each IFR coverall is a group of dedicated specialists. These individuals convey ardour, information, and a deep sense of obligation to their work. They understand that their efforts aren’t just about making a product; they are approximately defensive lives.
From the designers who create innovative patterns to the seamstresses who sew every garment with care, absolutely everyone plays a critical role. Quality manipulate inspectors make sure that not anything is omitted, and studies and development groups push the limits of what’s feasible.
These professionals regularly have private connections to the industries they serve. They know the risks that workers face and are pushed by means of a choice to make a difference. This sense of reason infuses their work with that means, making each venture, irrespective of how small, part of a larger project.
Conclusion
Manufacturing IFR coveralls is a complicated and traumatic system that calls for a aggregate of advanced generation and professional craftsmanship. But especially, it’s a human undertaking. The people at the back of those important garments are committed experts who take large satisfaction in their paintings.
Their commitment to exceptional, safety, and non-stop improvement guarantees that employees in high-hazard industries have the protection they need to stay secure at the task. By knowledge the human element in IFR coverall production, we are able to appreciate the care and determination that is going into each garment — and the lives they help protect.

Hello i am slowly regaining unzonked from my wisdom tooth but do you have resources on sterile protocol (specifically masks on while surgery and IV inseryoon x) and what to do if the doctor doesycomply (i at least only has to ask once while i was awake and they did put their masks up)
The CDC recommended PPE for dental healthcare workers includes gloves, face masks, protective eyewear, face shields, and protective clothing (e.g., reusable or disposable gown, jacket, lab coat).
If you are concerned that your provider did not practice proper safety protocols, you can try opening a medical negligence investigation. However, I do need to disclose that I am not a doctor or a lawyer so take this with a grain of salt.
