I love how Raditz uses him and Goku’s familial relationship to trick him into letting go of his tail so he can start whaling on him again, all the while having Gohan hostage in his pod. And then later on, Vegeta’s transformation into a great ape causes Goku to realize that he killed his own Grandpa Gohan all those years ago, accidentally or otherwise. It’s like this one biological side effect of his Saiyan heritage both robbed him of a relationship and prevented him from properly mourning once he realized what had happened, with his empathy and willingness to forgive being leveraged against him by those same Saiyans to destroy other familial bonds. It’s such a brutal introduction to a previously unknown part of your identity.
But then on Namek, Vegeta applies him & his father’s own situation to Gohan and Goku when he’s explaining the danger that the Frieza Force represent, saying how “they don’t have to be stronger than you to beat you, they could take your son hostage.” Obviously he’s referencing his childhood removal from King Vegeta’s “care,” but a side effect of that arrangement is that the King himself isn’t a tangible presence in his son’s life, certainly not by the time he’s on Namek. Vegeta does have something vaguely resembling a father figure when he makes that comparison, but it’s not him, it’s Frieza.
Frieza & Vegeta’s relationship is certainly not parental on an emotional level, but the mechanisms of keeping people as indentured servants naturally tend towards paternalism, and it’s obvious that Frieza has a weird little fixation on him besides. The entire Namek saga lowkey constructs this wildly uncomfortable parallel between Goku’s care for & devotion to Gohan, (putting himself in harms way and crossing between entire worlds to keep him safe over and over again,) and Frieza’s similarly relentless but antithetically possessive & degrading relationship with Vegeta, (repeatedly demanding that he be brought back to him alive no matter how much of a nuisance he becomes, to the point of having him nursed back to health after Zarbon claps his ass just so he can torture him himself.)
It’s Gohan who first notices that Captain Ginyu stole his dad’s body, and Gohan who keeps fighting through exhaustion and extreme violence before Goku gets to Namek. Later on in the Buu Saga, Goku realizes the projection of Gohan inside Majin Buu isn’t really his son quicker than anyone else does - their emotional bond is sturdy enough to transcend the physical, even after it’s repeatedly acknowledged that a young child shouldn’t be involved in situations as gruesome as these.
Compare that to Vegeta, who’s only visible relationship with his father comes from sharing violence as a form of giddy self-aggrandizement, until he sells him to a more powerful stranger - which he can’t even say was especially wrong by their own standards, the transaction as much a moral injury as an emotional one. As Frieza pointed out during his fight with Goku, he literally just beat the Saiyans at their own game, picking up where King Vegeta left off by using his son for the benefit of himself & the empire instead of for the benefit of his father & homeworld.
The fact alone that his relationship with his biological dad can begin to amalgamate with his relationship to a person who calls him a pet speaks volumes about how emotionally warped Vegeta was from the beginning. It’s a small wonder he clings to the dynastic propaganda of the Saiyans so hard, using the title he gets from the King in spite of the fact that his reaction to the man himself’s demise is so muted & repressed that it’s depicted using the imagery of a child encased in a mountain of corpses. It's the only thing that can potentially delineate what happened to him as unjust & undeserved - if it’s the violence itself that’s wrong, then what does that make him, his values, his scattered family, their entire culture. What does that make everything he’s been told since the moment of his birth.
And even in that scene where Vegeta is shrugging off his dad’s death and the planet’s destruction, the messenger mentions how Frieza offers his sympathies: as if Frieza isn’t the same person who killed him, this sickly pretense of warmth intended only to cover it up. You might recall how Goku is always mussing Gohan’s hair, and everyone knows that infamous scene where Vegeta strokes his hair before knocking the wind out of him - which can be read as a precursor to that horribly intimate beatdown Frieza lays on Vegeta and the others later, the one he had been planning to give Vegeta this whole time which is only compounded in brutality since Vegeta thwarted him, the one where he licks blood from Vegeta’s mouth off his face as he holds him up by his neck like a dog with it’s pup. It re-contextualizes the head stroke/brutal attack combo Vegeta pulled on Gohan as him acting out the sadistic objectification Frieza raised him on using another Saiyan child.
And in the end it comes full circle, with Vegeta using his last moments to pass the vendetta of himself and his own father on to Goku and his line. And this happens willingly, as a productive challenge to the Saiyan’s culture of domination, unlike the grotesque re-appropriation of that same culture that we’re presented with when Frieza takes Vegeta from home: Goku assumes this mantle after Vegeta is dead and fully incapable of forcing him. He also contradicts the callous disregard Vegeta displayed during the aforementioned scene with the Saibamen by treating his corpse with so much care. He holds him, he buries him. And you could argue that it’s better than he deserves at that point, but like. I think the fact that the gesture is unwarranted is a part of the point.

He’s just a lil creature
Unlike Belos’s cursed form, Pip actually has two versions. The one drawn here is when he has enough magic stored inside, is a Frankenstein-ed up mess between a basilisk and whatever Belos’s curse in canon is meant to be but because curses in general aren’t explained in explicit detail (especially belos’s one) I thought it would be neat to attempt to give it a cool headcanon
so my idea of what creature these two got stuffed with is something that’s nicknamed a “false Titan” which are a long extinct species of demon? (They might be a sub category of titan though I’m not too sure yet :/) that evolved to mimic titans in order to better hunt their children as well as hunt smaller species of titan that don’t grow to be giants, these guys ended up getting killed off in the war between archivists and titans because the archivists couldn’t tell the difference between the two species but one archivist eventually did and captured one of them for safe keeping/ preserving.
Evelyn was a seller of all kinds of dangerous magical artefacts and human items, she mostly used her business as fun hobby as well to help Caleb with starting their carving business that they wanted to do together because Evelyn running around exploring dangerous ruins wasn’t a good idea because they obviously were planning on starting a family together. Uh that kind of failed spectacularly ngl when the whole fight between Caleb and Philip started so Evelyn in revenge literally grabbed every curse she had in storage and just murked Philip with them after seeing Caleb dead, one of the curses just so happened to be the “false titan” which Philip wasn’t able to remove.
So The reason why Belos snacks on palisman is because they’re grown from using titan magic as well as they have healing properties so like how Eda eats voles, Belos is addicted to eating titan magic because of the curse, also by having the glyphs carved into his arms he fucked himself over even more because the glyphs need to have magic/ energy to function but that then causes the curse to get more agitated and causes the slime/rotting
Obviously Pip ended up getting cursed too because it got passed onto him but due to him being a weird amalgamation of grimwalker parts and basilisk, Pip isnt really interested in eating titan magic and can eat most magic just fine, so King or palisman aren’t in danger around him… but he is carnivorous and has to actually eat the creature to drain the magic rather than just inhaling it Kirby style like how basilisks do
A fun fact about that is that Luz just assumed that Pip just casually eating raw meat was just a witch thing until she learned more about witch diets/ foods and was somewhat horrified and intrigued by what the fuck is up with Pip even more. It’s even funnier when they all eventually go the human realm and Pip is just like this with a piece of raw meat or something
and Luz got so desensitised to Pip and his horrifying habits that she completely forgot to give a heads up to Camila, who at that time just assumed that Pip was just a normal human that was brought into the boiling isles or something and so she was completely taken off guard that out of the gang Pip is the least human/ knowledgeable in acting as a human, she’s mostly fine with it afterwards and only sets a few rules like making sure to not leave blood everywhere but she does almost have a heart attack seeing Pip’s cursed form just napping on the sofa like a weird giant cat

Hello! Want to double check that I've done a decent job of avoiding disfiguremisia, and try to turn it into great counter to hatred instead of just an okay one.
Preface: I have a form of memory loss and likely brain damage so I cannot always phrase things clearly although I will try my best.
Personally I do not feel happy reading escapist stories as that happy ending is not achievable for real people. We don't get to live in a place that's completely safe and free from judgement. I'd like to write people in a hostile world who find love and safety and community, however this does necessite writing hostility. I want to make sure I'm doing so with care.
I would like to make sure that the hostility written as tension does not tar how I write how one of the main characters. He should be written with dignity and respect even when he is not being treated well by those around him.
One of my characters is blind and develops severe burn scars. He wears a blindfold to help with photophobia and sensory overwhelm, but takes it off when its dim. (CVI plus autism.)
While he does wear a cloth coverings in public due to ugly laws, he views it as a ridiculous requirement and happily removes this mask when with friends. He also enjoys that being visibly strange or somewhat unnerving to most people means that shallow people who judge by appearances avoid him.
Question: what other things might I be able to employ to counter disfiguremisia? I have him being content with his face as it tells a story of his life and he's a blunt, forward person, not covering his face for most of the story despite laws necessitating that he do so, and a few other things too (and many side characters with facial differences and deformities also).
Also none of the central plotlines centre around facial difference. He's joining a servant rebellion, befriending a bitter exile intent on status at all costs, and discovering the truth of history. (Also a mind controlling octopus being is involved and a semi sentient moon amalgam thing but don't worry about it everything's fine.)
I think later books will be a more effective counter due to lack of ugly laws and him finding a lovely interest. I will also do my best to make the counters feel real and feasible - I want it to feel like an achievable option for those who deal with prejudice in the real world. I want his happy ending to feel real.
I respect the hell out of escapist fantasies it's just that they do nothing for me personally. I really want to write someone dealing with a lot - more than I ever have - and coming out the other end happy. Yes this world is hostile and will judge me but I can find joy despite it all. Some say the world is universally cruel but I have not found this to be the case. It is wise to be wary but myself and friends can create small sections of time and space where no precautions are necessary. Am I not part of the world? Are not they? The world is not universally cruel as long as I and those I treasure live in and we are not extraordinary, simply uncommon, and what is uncommon is still a great bounty. (Something to that effect.)
I'm set on what I want to write but the specifics I'm more than happy to change in order to bring joy. Do you have ideas on how I can do this full idea full justice?
Hello,
before getting to your actual ask, I have a "few" questions about the premise of the story itself.
You mention that you don't like escapist fantasies - that's fair. Taste differs; you can write whatever and that's great. But I do find the insistence to write a story about a specific type of discrimination as an outsider rather strange. If you want to have facial difference representation, I assume you want to have readers with facial differences, correct? I mean, I don't think that many able-bodied people would be too interested in it specifically considering most don't know what it is. So okay, this is supposed to be a story of characters with facial differences overcoming centuries worth of hatred and all that. Arguably more, considering that disfiguremisia and ableism go all the way back to Biblical times.
Why are you the person who needs to tell this story?
Just as people with facial differences are readers, we can be authors as well. We tell our stories. I will take an #OwnVoices book over a one that isn't that any day, and this fact will influence the rest of this answer. I'm a firm believer in #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs and all when it comes to this stuff.
Have you talked to people with facial differences who would be interested in the kind of story you want to tell? Do you know what they want to see from an author that's not taking it from their own experience? I don't count here, because as I made clear before, I'm not and won't be interested in it. I also don't know anyone in the community who has ever said "I wish more people without our experiences wrote about how hard it is to be us!". You need to make sure there are people who want this.
So, have, or will you, reach out to those that could like it? Sensitivity readers, random people online who like to read about disfiguremisia in their free time, advocates who work on media-centric problems? Anyone who would enjoy it is automatically a better candidate to help than me. I'm too jaded, I suppose.
If you want to talk about people with facial differences in such detail and setting, you need to get to know us. One guy with a specific set of opinions from a blog on Tumblr isn't that (thank god), but I guess I can serve as a reminder that not everyone will be excited to read a book that represents them in some way. We still have preferences.
To write it, you need to involve yourself in the community, start actually spreading activism about our issues. Preach about Face Equality and celebrate when our once-a-year week happens in May. See what disfiguremisia causes. Share our efforts to get all the problematic garbage off the big screen. Read our stories. Understand us as people who are incredibly diverse, and that not all of us like to be described as strange or unnerving.
If you only want to talk about our suffering as some quota to fill on a "types of discrimination" list, it will always be flat and inauthentic, and if you don't put in the effort it's pointless. We don't want tragedy porn, and we don't need to be included in every story about struggles that just wants some brand-new type of bigotry in it. We want authors who care about us, the living and breathing people. And sometimes it might mean respecting our opinions on writing disfiguremisia.
Here is a great post by @writingwithcolor explaining the effects of tragedy exploitation. Not everything there applies, but I would consider it a very valuable read.
If you think about all this, and decide that you are ready to write such a heavy, community-based story, go ahead to...
Actual Answers! Hooray
what other things might I be able to employ to counter disfiguremisia?
Sympathize with him. Disfiguremisia is a tragedy, it's brutal and it hurts. It's traumatic and impossible to forget, even if it wasn't happening constantly just to remind us that it's still there. On this note, I would recommend you research writing characters with PTSD.
Have him think about it. Sometimes I get home after getting stared down on the street and just want to yell. You don't forget a microaggression or a hate crime after five minutes. Let him vent and let him be upset. He can have flashbacks or recall similar situations that happened in the past.
I'm glad that he's aware of disfiguremisia unlike a ton of characters who are somehow always unable to figure out that it's a problem. If the ableism he's facing is so systemic and severe, individual people will be even more extreme. You can have him remember that the shop owner was a slur-spitting bigot, or that his neighbors avoid even talking to him. I want him to call them out - in retrospective, at the moment, in his head, whatever - on what they're doing. Throw a "not this fucking thing again" or something in there.
The minimum is to make him feel like a human with an internal thought process, who is able to actually experience what's happening to him, and for it to have long-term effects.
Also, outside of the whole disfiguremisia thing and me being overdramatic, check out our #blindness tag, and research burn scar care. If you don't show the boring and mundane, it will only feel closer to tragedy porn; just a sad thing one after another.
I will also do my best to make the counters feel real and feasible - I want it to feel like an achievable option for those who deal with prejudice in the real world.
This I think is the part of the ask that made me the saddest, and not because of what you wrote. I tried to think of achievable ways; ways that we did it, tried to do it, and are doing it, and one-by-one I crossed them out as "didn't work", "no one cared enough" or "kinda worked but honestly, it didn't". Face Equality is basically non-existent, not matter how much it hurts me to admit it! We are trying our best, and it doesn't work. It's just plain hard for me to come up with suggestions for this.
In fiction, I suppose that personal resistance is the way when it comes to this. I don't think there are feasible systemic changes that could happen that don't border on magical thinking or get into the "singular glorious revolution that somehow fixes everything and everyone lived happy ever after. We fixed racism, yay!". This just sucks. He could try to educate the people who are willing to listen - that's somewhat what I'm trying to pull off here on this blog, I guess. Sometimes it works, often it doesn't, but in his situation it wouldn't hurt to try.
The fundamental part here will be whether your character is able to find a way to make the ordinary person care in the end. To me, society who still hates us just as much, with a small group that thinks we're okay isn't a happy ending. The opposite, rather. It's cold and isolating to know only your friends could value you as a human being, and downright sad to imply that we should be happy for that. I don't mean that everyone should love us in every story, but there's a difference between The Ableism being represented by an antagonist or two versus the entire world except for the main characters.
If you decide to go forward with this story, I do hope your other readers with facial differences enjoy it!

[This is my oc from the SCP foundation, this is a silly draw about him! And a little information too.. the stroke looks a little messy as always but that's my way of drawing]
Researcher Harlow 𑁍ࠬܓ
"I think I'm a little sick, I should rest.."
Information:
Researcher Harlow is an active and trusted member of the SCP Foundation. Long ago, Researcher Harlow specialized in radiation y in nuclear physics, a specialist in radioactive SCP, e.g. SCP 059. Due to this, the arrival of SCP-𖤓𖤓𖤓 was entrusted to him to be in charge of it, SCP-𖤓𖤓𖤓 is a radioactive parasite where it constantly seeks hosts to feed on, which causes disfigurement and twisting the bodies so that they are amalgams of infected flesh, this currently has no cure or way to To prevent the parasite from doing its thing, the only way to remove the parasite from a victim is to neutralize it. The best way is to use flammable products on it to eliminate any particles on the infected person or the parasite.
On August █, ████ the parasite managed to escape from its containment, which resulted in a quarantine being applied throughout the site - ██ in search of the parasite, the participation of researcher Harlow where he accused 2 members of the staff of the infection of the parasite was the support for this quarantine to end quickly. Although the parasite was not found, it was thought that it had been neutralized and Harlow was thanked for his help, but he only always smiled, although awkwardly this time.
Some time passed and Harlow had strange behavior such as going into the cells of other SCPs and not leaving there for several moments. One quiet morning, it was reported that Harlow was the current host of SCP-𖤓𖤓𖤓 due to a medical inspection where he was seen how several veins stood out from his torso, a combination of purple and red on his skin, also a vein in his neck that kept it hidden as well. Somehow he had managed not to have any physical changes beyond being disfigured on the parasite but the parasite is still hungry so Harlow had to resort to drastic measures like ████ or █████████ ███ eat █████ after that, it is a little suspicious if SCP-𖤓𖤓𖤓 can continue infecting others but since its host is Researcher Harlow then there is no problem.
"It's eating me alive and nobody is doing anything, nobody, nobody."
Personal information:
Name: ████ Harlow
Security level: 3
Occupation: Nuclear Physicist and Nuclear Medicine Radiologist
Harlow, is someone calm and kind but is always a little uncomfortable from time to time having the parasite still there. In any case, he still wants to continue helping so that he can still be useful. Born on May 8th, You can refer to him however you want!
[I hope I wrote it well, but there it is! I hope he make friends here, btw I will write this with better wording over time. I'll be editing this occasionally as I have the character and information about his relationship to the SCP still being written.]
Additional information: SCP-𖤓𖤓𖤓 Previously it was Keter class, then it was changed to neutralized and for the third time it was changed to Safe because it has not caused any damage since it is in Harlow's body.

Bills would've been better
Mia brings Jane the letters. All from the fanclub you've somehow amalgamated. The one that you wish didn't exist.
And being the idiot that you are, you read them.
You're lying on the floor in your base, cold concrete doing wonders for your migraine. Sprawled out on your back with a little stack of loose papers beside you. One held up above your face.
They're more or less all the same. Glorified thank you notes. But reading them doesn't fill you with any sense or pride. They just make you feel hollow. More than before.
You are a pathetic excuse of a villain for one. What exactly have you done so far? Had a temper tantrum about an exhibit about your past at a museum. Stood at some protests and fought the LDPD to keep them back and put them in their place. Harassed government officials to improve the living standards in low-income communities. Picked away at removing corrupt politicians from power. Which will never work. There will always be another to replace. An endless cycle you are ultimately powerless against.
Worthless.
Why did you ever think you could stand a chance against the farm? It's completely unobtainable. Out of your league. Pathetic. What's one stupid telepathic regene with power armour versus an entire establishment? You are a fool if you ever really thought you stood a chance.
The next letter is from a kid. Pink glittery pen scrawl that hurts your eyes in the low light. You don't want to move so straining your eyes to read it is.
Another thank you note. For how Entropy mysteriously got the construction company to leave his neighbourhood alone. The project terminated and the houses and families that live in them safe and undisplaced. The CEO paid off everyone's mortgage as consolation for the stress and an apology for thinking them so easy to toss aside. Entropy is his hero.
Hero. That's not what you are. Aren't supposed to be. Never was.
None of them know what they're idolizing. You are nobody's hero. You're done with that. Ended horribly. But no matter what you try, you seem to be bound to fail time and time again at playing the villain. All you've done is hurt Julia.
Maybe that's enough to make you the bad guy. It feels like it.
The next five letters are from employees from a local grocery store. They're unionized now. Thanks to Entropy.
Fucking hell, you hardly even pass for anything more then a glorified crosswalk guard. Holding people's hands and leading them from point A to point B.
They would've got there eventually, with or without you. You're sure of it.
If any of them knew the truth about what you are, they wouldn't be quick to attach themselves to you. How many would turn you in? Send you back?
The good life is only meant for real people. Which — you yank the sleeve of your hoodie back up over your wrists — you are more than well aware that you aren't.
Two more letters. More of the same. Work you don't need armour for. You could've done that with street clothing and sunglasses. Show up, adjust some minds, problem solved. Anonymous neighbourhood watchdog.
Four official letters from the charities you last hit up. Donated thousands, stolen from real villains. They're grateful. One of them wants to meet in person. Thank you. It isn't happening. You are not something to be shown off.
Too many people looking up to you. It makes you feel sick. You are the last person who deserves that. Nobody's hero. You couldn't save people you cared about when it counted.
You can't even find reason to even attempt to save yourself.
Look at you. Reading a dozen painfully heartfelt letters, and what does that make you feel? Like everyone would be better if you never came back from the dead. Were never here at all.
Maybe that makes you the villain. Because you must truly be awful to think the things you do. To do the things to yourself that you do in response. Because nobody in their right mind would want to kill themselves after hearing about how beloved they are. How many lives they've changed.
Selfish and pathetic.
A successful failed career. You switched sides only to do more good than you ever did as a hero. And none of it is even remotely useful to achieve your goals.
Not goals. Pipedream. Because there really is no way you can take down the farm. Not continuing on like this.
Right now, not continuing on sounds like the best course of action.
You let the last letter fall from your grasp. Watch it flutter down and land beside you. You don't know what it says. It doesn't matter. More false admiration for someone who doesn't deserve it. Someone who only tangentially exists.
Jane needs to get rid of the letters next time Mia hands them to you. And Entropy needs to toughen up and be the fucking bad guy. And Valya needs to take down that stupid fanclub website.
But none of that will get done. Because it's so much easier to construct new and creative ways to hurt yourself. Even just mentally. Remind you of what you are. Of how you will never be one of them. Never fit in. Never be truly deserving of being the hero everyone writes letters to thank.
You're more likely to actually take down the farm than to become a person deserving of that.
#darkfire writes#shorts#flash prompt#fallen hero#fhr#sidestep#congrats buddy thats the worst anyones ever read fanmail#tw suicidal at the end

Code Red
Squirmed digits adorning a tattered-grim-soaked sanguine cloth, crimson dripping from the utterly defeated and shaken Captain suffering from his darkest day fore now.
Feline ears rang sharply, sweat and tears with blood’s inclusion more thicker mixed into combination upon forehead nestle, stowed away on his retreating sea-vessel on the run from pursuing savages that have declared annihilation, turned his life and the association of anyone in his orbit as nothing more than a playful murderous game, his palms further proved, stained with the deepest red from an irreplaceable life dismembered and packaged.
A fresh pectoral mark of slavery left branded on flesh burned as a reminder only quelled by a psychological breakage unraveling, awaiting to determine his humaneness. Every instinct flaring up to retaliate, blood for blood and overall translation; freedom, but doing so meant every progression ever made, all the enjoyment of every sight of color that he relished to treasure in this realm, his world, would become an unholy sight of only ever crimson red going forth.
His leg’s trembling still in horrified fear after confronting the worst. Thinking he could rescue his abducted Crewmates safely, stealthily slip through the barriers of a Nation bred on sinking their teeth in all.
Two pairs of silhouettes outside his cabin’s door and drew inside, a roughed up, latterly beaten and bruised, a tortured Judas who had shown signs of haggard too, donning a old tunic and overgrown mangled hair from his captivity. Only person, Captain managed to get out of there from his Crew alive. Alongside Sinbad the Young, who caused these events to take place, attempting to swindle out a dangerous Crew from their believed, owes.
All of these three fellows, branded in connection, tracked and given an expiration date with their runic markings that almost were identical to a curse, approximately one summer, to slay their common handler.
...Yet that foe was practically inconceivable to even bring to thought their demise. An unmatched Giant, the proclaimed, All-Father of Scourges, YORE of the Gorey Seas was what they’d have to defeat.
There laid many mythos, legends, pirate omens and warnings everyone was to know better to kneel. Infamously said to have collected a bounty so massive, and lethal that due to having so many casualties was removed for the safety of adventurists or self-acclaimed Warriors, having themselves gruesomely humbled, brutally slaughtered and displayed with their decapitated heads piked, trophies all over the border of his Nation of warning and unmatched display of dominance. The outer-banks of the Isle, laid an unfiltered section of gory red, murky, cadavers left rotting and floating to further cause deterrence; practically an Isle bleeding.
It's foretold, with all the perfections and flawlessness that spawned from mortals to their believed Kami’s, Twelves, lowly Primals, they worshiped so dearly, that in order for this realm to continue to coexist with its consistent ideology of balance in all outlets from astral to umbral, forces of positive and negative, that polarity conditions must be managed, unequal force was needed to be curated carrying the most impurities, sins, ugliness into a Necessity all gathered, a giant amalgamation formed ripping through his progenitress's womb gruesomely upon conception.
His carnage and terror garnered throughout seas to such an extent, exiled fierce tribal members from Dorthals and "deemed" almighty races, deemed exclusive to only superior touted for their overwhelming ferocity, which drew in the interest to gather in a force of an Era, built to conquer unequivocally. Forming their own language, culture, walk.
Early members of their Nation, OMONGA, in mere youth and meek, primitive naturally raised and survivalist, were thrown in tribunal arena, left to fend against a selected savage wild beast dependent by their Blind Prophet who unveiled visions, these migrated or native creatures were riled up to purposely be enraged, given dangerous experimental, chemical enhancements and abused, to make their Tribunal Predator as lethally fearsome as possible. If they managed to survive and slay, they would then have their aetherial compounds and aspect, become ritualistically Imprinted, following and mimicking the prowess of their selected savage carrying on and embodying their trophy hunt in their putrid forms molded. Brandish to carry the legacy of ruthless designs.
From Captain’s very adolescence in the Goldbrand his surrogate Father and Founding Captain, told both Sol and Kuro, countless and endlessly, reality. That unbelievable power lurked. Tread ever watchfully while the promise of golden Freedom had boundless fortune to attain, there's steep costs, prices of Blood came before, lines that couldn’t be sailed, waves that should-not-ever be challenged.
Shallow waters too massive for them to ever think feet could contend against.
Upon Captain's encounter confronting YORE that led to this pitiful state he was paralyzed in. That-Which-Stood-The-Tallest; mercilessly, callously, revealed, The Goldbrand was created by that very monster, a sub-crew composed of slaves, who only were made to collect treasure for servitude and borrowed prosperity; hence the namesake...
Entire time, the sail he casually followed believing his Founder’s invention and groomed beliefs instilled, carrying prideful merit, was no more than inheriting the mantle of awaiting Scarlet Destined slavery a facade existence he bore.
Leashed prey tasked to find shiny objects like collected unwanted mutts and dispose in moments of desire for that is the truth of all things. The mightiest biggest reaped and ensured their bellies fed plump. Revelations unfolded these Predators of YORE’s Elite thrived in a Crew identically dubbed, the Bloodbrand coexisted.
A fuming, huffing puffing Highlander couldn’t believe the distraught or unpleasant sight of a once bold Captain finally confronted with the very first time he could say, Kuro was truly afraid. From witnessing countless deaths, otherworldly sights, to acquiring scars of incredible marvel proportions, to challenging inside the realms of the Void and bleak, obscurity to often drowning in the Presences of higher deities, or uncertain depths, none, none of them held a seemingly notion of fret from the brazen Seeker who paraded around with a feverish recklessness abandoned, but everyone, and all. Has a predator out there that's a designated devour, a force stronger that instinctively alone makes their rattling bones quiver to petrified liquid.
Truthfully Sinbad's inner-issues were self-reflected, masked as fellow billowing rage, for his own self-blame for causing this situation, but couldn’t take accountability due to atrocious Pride. His Crew were all eradicated of his own Captaineering while he licked and nursed his wounds helplessly and barked through tinted-ego, drunk on his fleeting moment of success he became drunk despite once heralding his straight-edge lifestyle. However consequences have been delivered, his loved-fiance suffered mutilation from being captive, only rescued from Solaire’s daring rescue.
Branded despite all that over showing muscularity being painfully useless, shown unrivaled, MIGHT unlike his facade brawn. Forbidden, cursed, from ever hearing his heart speak fluently with her severed tongue. His entire manly existence is barred ever transparently, everything he gloated, herald over the Seeker now was his own fated string.
Chewing inward on his cheek, “Well? Going to pack up here, sulk and wait to get butchered? We takin’ this on the chin? Without giving our own, huh?! Nah, fuck that. I refuse! They TOOK FROM US! They’re OWED to have everything ripped whether I have you two join me or not, I don’t give a soddin' damn, I'll ignite my remaining flesh just to make them taste hell incarnate.” Captain continued mute, rolled into like a ball; defeated. Muttering to himself with lunacy. Cradling tighter to his chest the severed appendage head of the fallen.
“Can nothing get through to him?! Pick yourself up, stand up for fucksake.” Intolerantly getting more aggressive the bulky Highlander showing temper these two were the only people who commonly could fight. Any moment now their ship would be raided by their pursuers, they were given a head start, with playfulness and pity by their captors, wanting to have a thrilling hunt, to get them rushing, none of OMONGA cared for anything but the sheer thirst battle offered or an opportune war, blood, this was their orgasmic greed they sated.
The once Princely First demeanor shielded his Captain, “Lay off! Reminder, this would’ve never happened if not for you! YOU caused this. You’re looking to project the last ounce of ‘esteemed’ manhood you may have, but it’s so blatantly obvious, you’re in shambles too. Stop the farce, end your festering ego. …Or do you need a reminder? If it wasn't for Captain and his perished one, we would’ve never gotten this far. We’ve got five alive on this ship, three were their recently jailed slav-” Lashing the Brute, grappled Judas by his collar and uprooted him from the floor and tossed him with anger against the wall, his temper and nostrils flaring and breathing heavily, the outburst was fleeting but he couldn’t look at Judas forwardly. His cheeks left wet streaks of hard knowing… It was correct. He lowered the Midlander onto his soles with a gentler approach, “...I-I’m sorry.” Another showing of fear displayed.
Was beyond extraordinary to see how Judas handled himself compared to the other two, forcing himself to be level-headed and prevent sink in any discomfort, always a master and manipulator of his own emotions. Despite being perhaps the one who was titled the Cowardice Prince. He comprehended the gravity of everything.
The First-Mate exhaled, “You’re right about something, we have to fight if we wish to survive. Even if we cannot beat all their numbers, we’ll at-least dent them, I’m not against drawing whatever vitality I may have. So I’ll join you, Sinbad. We can start by fortifying and making preparations. I advise rushing to set whatever advantages we can and have others hide in the brigs and wait to escape in the chaos through the cannon-windows creases, being divergence could be a solid honorable way to die. If anything Captain, if you can hear me, take the emergency rowboat with them, I can’t thank you enough for coming back for me and Casta. Told you, I’d be that wind.” Last words, laid out in heartfelt and a jolly smile, echo the memory of that handshake they exchanged, remaining light before taking haste.
Captain left as it started, alone in darkness.
Sleep-deprived, eyelids closed momentarily, deeply, a decision was begged for answering.

Aemond is a fool for Storms end, but his war has started when he lost an eye, he is consistent at this. Alicent doesn't recognise it in ep 8, praises Rhaenyra and scolds him for something she herself has been doing for years.. It was her who told Aemond, a child, that Rhaenyra's sons are bastards and Aegon has to be king for their family's safety and now she acts like they have other options but to fight for their survival. What does she even want? Does she think they can all live in peace with Daemon as king consort (who hates her father and her entire family)? With Queen Rhaenyra who killed her husband to marry him and once wanted to torture her son? Alicent is the most confusing character honestly.
that's because the writers don't care about making alicent consistent as long as they keep the rhaenicent fire burning within her because it's the only way they understand how to make an unpopular typology like her sympathetic in the public's eyes.
at this point they made her flip-flop between stances and moods so much that it's affecting the suspension of disbelief and she is just starting to look more like an amalgamation of different authors (grrm, scriptwriters, directors, actors, each with their own take on her). so i can't immerse myself in order to ask "what does she even want" because all i see is too many chefs in the kitchen. at most, her family's safety edged out her (unexplainable) love for rhaenyra, because she did take an active part in crowning aegon at rhaenyra's expense, but she is just very reluctant to do further harm
which, i mean.... spirits are high right now and people are just tired of her playing doormat for someone who would only (at most) shrug and look apologetic when daemon murdered her family. but, equally, it's not THEE craziest stance to have. i do agree with what she said in ep 9 - "reluctance to murder is not weakness" - and, if there is the slightest chance at solving this mess diplomatically, then it is their duty to at least try, in order to spare further bloodshed. let's not forget that removing the black faction (whichever way you want to define it) would also involve a lot of innocent people dying, it's not as easy as just meeting them in 1 vs 1 battles
also, i'm not saying that the actual scene will be much better, but, if we are to be super duper fair, we don't KNOW what aemond and alicent are fighting about. maybe aemond just said the most psychotic thing ever and alicent is at her wits' ends. we don't know what she's objecting to. maybe to aemond them "prevailing" means committing massacres, to which she objects, because, well, she should, honestly. brutal force and slaughter are not exactly the recommended way forward, is that not what septon meribald keeps telling us?
likewise, we don't know when exactly she is talking to aegon and aemond, advising caution and diplomacy. is this after they find out aemond murdered luke? is it after b&c? it's a safe bet that it happens at the beginning of the season, because aegon is still walking and aemond is in KL, but it's not out of the realm possibility that she will become hardened towards rhaenyra by the end
which is why i would not advise getting worked up too much over this. trailers are often misleading, lines are superposed over scenes that have nothing to do with the context in which they were spoken, shots of characters are alternated in order to confuse and mislead etc.
#but yeah the dinner party scene makes no sense after alicent just plotted to indirectly expose luke as a bastard and jeopardize his claim#that's just the screenwriters not understanding their source material#alicent hightower#ask#anon#anti rhaenicent#wow i've never used this tag before a couple of days ago and now look at me :))

Fic writer asks: 5, 18, 25!
<3
fic writer asks here!
5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
never say never, of course, but i may not write this one simply because dealing with gender in a way that relates so closely to my own experience is not something i feel up to doing at this moment....but, i had an idea about a girl sid-boy geno fic that is a little...i guess maybe off-theme from what a lot of people who do rule 63 in this fandom do? i had a thought about a girl sid who reacts to being almost always the only woman in a male space by going hyper-feminine—she doesn't try to be one of the boys, she doesn't try to act or dress more androgynously. her defense mechanism is the exact opposite. you will never catch her doing press without her hair done and her makeup flawless. she speaks softly and politely and maybe even pitches her voice up a bit from what she 'really' sounds like. she dates, and they're all stereotypical manly men, but never involved in hockey in any way, because perception is everything. in this fic, she has an A, but it's pretty clear the organization did that as a token thing. the team knows she's the real captain, though. how does a geno who's desperately in love with her and is wearing 'her' captaincy manage that? how do they fall in love?
my issue with writing this is because i use m/m fic to deal with my own relationship to gender, but at a safe distance—it's why i do a lot of omegaverse. i'm a very tall, not-skinny woman, and i have a low voice, and my defense mechanism for years has been to try and shrink myself and be as girly as possible in public to counteract the non-feminine parts of how i look and act. i understand that there's been some discussion in fandom recently about feminizing certain characters, but writing characters in certain ways can do a lot to work through your own issues at a remove that doesn't hurt, or feel weird. i'm not sure when, if ever, i'll be able to confront that more directly and write about it in this fashion. i think it could be really fun, though!
18. What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
i love all the lines i've ever written because i'm my own biggest fan, but something i wrote that i'm particularly proud of right now is this one, from this fic:
“I like you better now,” Sid says, bringing a hand up to cup Geno’s jaw, studying his face, the creases around his eyes and mouth, the hairline that’s higher this year than it’s ever been despite Geno’s best efforts, the silver in his sideburns. It’s a face that’s at once familiar and strange, because Sid’s known this face since he was 19, but looking at Geno now, at how he’s changed and softened with age, sometimes strikes Sid painfully, deep in his heart.
i've been thinking a lot about aging recently, and the joy of getting older with people you know. it's a privilege. and i have some lifelong friends, along with my family, and over the last few months i've been thinking about how when i look at these people who i've known since infancy i don't really see what they look like now...i see what they look like in my heart, which is sort of an amalgamation of all the ways they looked in their youth and young adulthood. but sometimes, when i'm talking to someone, it's almost like a mini out-of-body experience, and i see them how they look now, with all the marks of aging that they have—wrinkles, gray hair, weight gain, whatever it is—and it's like- oh wow, this person is almost a stranger to me, because i see them the way i did when i first met and loved them. i am sure this is a very common experience, but it's startling every time, seeing and recognizing that my own perception is so colored by how i feel about someone and the length and duration of our relationship that it can literally alter what they look like to me.
it's kind of beautiful, to have people like that in my life. and getting old together is a gift. but it's also strange, and poignant, and powerful to have happen. anyway, i did my best to capture that sensation with that paragraph, and i think i did a decent job with it.
25. Have you ever upset yourself with your own writing?
this whole ficlet sort of upset me.

Decided to challenge myself by drawing every single TLK character out there, up until this point in time, and post it here. You can see the finished project on my main account, though I figured to post it on my tumblr just show I could proudly show off my work and a few of my head canons.
Finishing up with this project, here's every monster/ghoul/spirit/cryptid across TLK/G:
Being a world of animals with enough sapience to have memories, tell stories, and have beliefs, surely they must have their own mythos, cryptids, and monsters. So in the spirit of Halloween, here's taking every monster, ghoul, or bizarre creature across TLK and given a proper acknowledgement and description.
First off with the Zimwi, the name literally translating to 'ogre', 'ghost, or 'demon' in Swahili. One of the more widespread, notable monsters, described to be an enormous creature, as tall as two giraffes, a body is covered in long spikes, with eight legs that are each bigger than the last, and teeth sharper than a crocodile's. Mostly told as a boogeyman story to diurnal creatures in order to ensure that they stay sleeping safely with their families during the night, most likely this creature is an amalgamation of many nocturnal predators and creatures combined into one shadowy form. Some say it's a manifestation of all the fears and evils in the world, meant to haunt the living and steal their souls, other see it as a trickster, terrifying animals who are meant to be sleeping at this time and teaching them a harsh lesson in obeying your parents. Some believe they're the amalgamation of spirits who are unable to pass on and wander the earth, others say it is a real tangible being which eats naughty animals and causes sickness and disease upon whoever witness it. Some say they are the very first darkness, the progenitor of everything bad in existence, a primordial evil which stalks the earth. Whatever the theory, it is a malignant monster you must beware.
In a world where the Circle of Life is a common belief, there is also the notion of death outside the tangible, physical plain, of the spirits. When a creature dies, their spirits are taken back to the spiritual realm where the gods are. Good, neutral or even bad spirits may enter Juu(up), which essentially means their spirit is added into a sort of pool or melting pot of spirits, where things such as memories and identities are removed, and the spirit itself is combined with others in the energy before being taken out, made into a new soul, and reincarnated. The memories and identities are not completely erased, as they get turned into energy that goes into new traits, instinct, and occasionally lingering as past memories and warnings. Notable, good spirits, such as the Great Kings of the past or important figures are given a different path, to join the gods in their realm of Aljanna(paradise), to become things like stars to guide their species or descendants from up above. They are allowed to keep their memories and identities, and they can become guardians or legends for their species, guiding them from up above, though some, like Askari or Mufasa, are exceptions. Lions are considered to be the Great Spirits favorites, given he is a spirit of the moon and the Great Kings are his stars, and many of his descendants are rulers and stewards of the lands. In Mufasa's case, he was allowed to come down as a more prominent, physical form after death, to communicate with his son in order to save the balance of the Circle of Life from dying in the Pridelands. Normally divine communication is done via dreams or through natural phenomenon such as the breeze or clouds with no rain, which a shaman can then interpret, though given the severity of the issue in the Pridelands and the Great Spirits lineage in the Pridelands' rulers, as well as determining that Mufasa would be the best to intervene here, he was given this exception. As for bad spirits, for the truly evil ones, they get sent down to Chini(down). There they are forced into divine punishment, forced to relive painful moments from their own lives, shown the consequences of their actions by letting them see things from their victims perspectives, made to suffer as they did in death(i.e. death by fire=constant burning, drowning=always soaked and lungs full of water), etc. Predators and prey alike, carnivores and herbivores, young and old evil. Traitors, rapists, backstabbers, murderers, terrorists, abusers, anyone who left a dark stain in the Circle of Life finds themselves here. There is a sliver of hope, however. Those who are able to reflect on their crimes, take accountability for them, and plead for forgiveness may be taken out and allowed to go into the cosmic spirit pools of Juu to be reincarnated, hopefully into a better life, though those who remain stubborn and unapologetic stay there. And yes, this does include Scar and Zira, though until they've shown true remorse over their actions, they will be there for a long time. Some say that Chini resides underneath the earth, and that the evil, anger, and eternal punishment is what fuels the fiery magma which occasionally bubbles to the earth.
There is some belief though that not all spirits remain in those realms. Some say that through the vapors and smoke from volcanos, or the areas surrounding graves and final spots, the essences of spirits can linger and combine to form supernatural entities, typically ones which haunt the living. Ghosts, ghouls, zombies, malignant spirits possessing the living, garden-variety monsters, you name it. Of course here we're including the sadistic Werehog, zombie-like Mooks, and the legendary crocodile ghost Mambo Croc, all falling into the category of the terrible cryptids and entities you would not like to run into. Other ones, frightening but not as terrible, like the Mokele Mbembe, another large cryptid described as "smarter than the smartest elephant, stronger than the strongest hippo, and faster than the fastest cheetah", not as exclusive to the night as the Zimwi, and not as malicious. Often described as an elephant-sized quadruped with smooth skin like a hippo, a tail like a crocodile, a long neck like a giraffe, and a single tooth or horn like a rhino, it is graciously an herbivore, though still terrifyingly big and elusive. I decided to also do the narwhal thing with the 'horn/tooth' and make it a tusk, which by the way, in narwhals are actually a extended, specialized tooth on the left side of their jaws, that they use to help them sense their environments, as well as weapons for males to compete in the breeding season. I also gave them short spine spikes, since the crocodiles already have them.
As for spirits, we've got the Ghost from "Ghost Boosters", Green Ghost from "The Green Ghost", and Genie from "Wishy Washy", depicted more simplistic/less-humanoid here for the sake of this animal-centric world. For the Ghost, I went with his shape-shifted designs and combined him with the standard ghost form he has. Now for monsters, as in unusual mutants, or beasts unlike the ones seen in the wild. Considered to be altered mortal forms taken by the gods, possessed animals, or mistakes made by the gods during creation, or some other reason, they do have some resemblance to known animals, though are much different. In this category we have the fire-breathing fowl/chicken, the oversized scarab Mummy Beetle, Torgo the undead warthog/ogre hybrid creature, Bigfoot who most likely is a supersized gorilla, Beast which is a fire-breathing, winged crocodile, Bartholomew the wildebeest/ape/croc hybrid, not to be confused with the "crocobuffalion" from "Teacher In Danger", depicted as a bark-like crocodile with the mane of a lion and skeletal buffalo face, the bat-winged Flying Lion from Rafiki Remembers(though sometimes this is what those who witness the Great Spirit claim he appears as), and the laughably bizarre, swan-warthog hybrid porkswanees from "The Big No Sleep", this universe's answer to 'when pigs fly', in both literal and metaphorical form.
Lastly is two bizarre categories which I had difficulty placing. The first is the watu, two-legged creatures which left some markings on cave walls and some tools, yet have never been seen. Allegedly thought to be both violent and intelligent, they seem almost alien in how they're described, sort of detached from the natural world, yet still physically there, even if they're just a legend. They're depicted as paintings on the tree, which I am curious if this would be something Rafiki would actually have in his home. Lastly is Bahuka the tiki stone from "Oahu Wahoo!", which I've decided to merge with the the bearded stone from Anansi folklore. A terrible living rock statue with an impressive stone beard to match, they were a malevolent rock which would curse or you for saying its real name or about its beard, as well as order you to complete tasks without payment before allowing you to go. According to legend, Bahuka was defeated first by being thrown into a volcano by some disgruntled animals it abused, which striped it of it's supernatural powers. Next its body was destroyed and broken, some of its body being ground up into sand, other larger chunks were made into the Moja kwa moja stones to help guide animals to finding the Tree of Life for aid and healing.

SPOILER ALERT!!!
Steven universe info dump!
Lore in cronilogical order: long ago on a far away planet known as homeworld, four diamonds are formed. White diamond, yellow diamond, blue diamond and pink diamond. White diamond was the leader of all the gems. She strived for perfection, destroying anything she deemed imperfect. Pink diamond was the smallest diamond, all the others had countless planets under their rule, and she had none. She begged and begged for her own planet and White finally gave in and gave her earth. Pink was extatic about finally having her own planet. She was happy with this for a bit, but eventually she wanted even more. She got into a heated argument with the other diamonds, cracking her first pearl(known as pink pearl). She stormed off and the diamonds gave her a new pearl(the one in the show), she grew close with this pearl and started talking about her dreams of running away. She takes the disguise of rose quartz and starts sneaking off to earth with her pearl. She decides she's gonna fake her death and permanently take the form of rose quartz. Before running off she leaves her companion spinel in her garden under the guise of a game. She has her pearl asist in faking her death. She runs away and turns permanently into rose. On the way out they meet a newly formed garnet and convinced her to join the rebellion. They all run away to earth where they meet a newly formed amethyst and they take her on as well. Along the way somewhere, they meet bismuth. They gather even more gems on the way. They start the rebellions efforts on earth to keep it safe from the diamonds. I think it's around this time that the cluster is planted (the cluster is an amalgamation of shattered gem pieces artificially fused together.). Sometime around this Era, the diamonds start shattering rebellion members, even one event involving a beam of light that corrupts all gems it touches, causing casualties and both sides of the battle. Bismuth shows pink a weapon made for shattering diamonds, which she refuses to use. Bismuth gets violent when she refuses without explanation, thinking this could end everyone's suffering. Rose bubbles bismuth and tells everyone she was shattered. Eventually the rebellion loses to many people and the remaining members (garnet, amethyst, pearl and rose) move into hiding at the beach house. Rose met Greg at his less then successful concert. Slowly, to pearls dimay, they begin falling for each other. Eventually (don't think abt the logistics, it doesn't make sense) rose becomes pregnant with Steven. The gems all disagree with her decision but she gives up her physical form so Steven will live. The gems briefly kidnap Steven and Greg's van when he isn't looking and try to coax rose out of her gem (which is attached to steven). When that doesn't work pearl tries to remove the gem but baby Steven cries and she feels bad so she stops. Pearl finally accepts she isn't getting rose back and they give Steven and the van back to Greg. Steven spends the majority of his childhood with the gems as a van isn't the best place to raise a child. When Steven is 13 he goes on his first mission with the gems. Sometime around here steven meets Connie and they learn they can fuse. After that they go on even more missions and eventually the diamonds take notice. When they do notice they start attacking again. During all this pearl is training Steven and Connie to fight. Peridot arives to check the cluster, the gems catch her and find out about the cluster. Peridot eventually starts liking earth so she (reluctantly) agrees to help stop it from ending the world. Steven friendships the problem away. They eventually get kidnapped by the diamonds. Steven friendships REALLY HARD until pretty much everything is better. They go back to earth and the diamonds start fixing all the stuff they messed up. Steven and the gems start little homeworld aka how to gem without being terrible people 101. Steven and Connie grow up and have family etc etc. The end (sorry, I lost motivation like halfway through but I promised to finish it today.)
Random fun facts: kindergartens are a place where a bunch of materials to make gems are planted in the ground, gems hatch out of the ground in these places, not all gems are formed this way though. Gems are actually light projections, the only real Physical part is the gem itself.
Random pearl facts: her main wepon is a spear, she also enjoys ballet! she was sworn to secrecy by rose and no one but pearl knew about rose being pink diamond until years after Steven was born.
Sorry if any of this is incorrect or I missed something! This is all from memory.
