The Safari Collection: BIRTHS AND BITTERSWEET GOODBYES

Greetings to our wonderful family of giraffe sponsors. There have been big changes to our tower of twigas over the past weeks. New babies have arrived and translocations have seen us wave goodbye to three from our herd. The amazing efforts of AFEW Giraffe Centre and Kenya Wildlife Service in the breeding of Rothschild’s giraffes continues and we’re so grateful to be a part of this. Here at Giraffe Manor, our sponsorship programme continues to raise funds towards community projects and giraffe conservation. As you know, half of your generous donation goes to support the wonderful conservation work of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF). They’ve been expanding their environmental education programme, which takes children on safaris to experience the incredible natural world in their own countries. They have also produced a fabulous series of free educational videos which are well worth a watch for anyone interested in conservation and sustainability. BACK TO THE WILD

Last month, three of our younger giraffes, Lily, Jock VIII and Alizeti, were moved to Rimoi National Reserve in western Kenya. Whilst everyone at the manor shall miss them terribly, their release marks a great achievement in giraffe conservation as they will go on to repopulate their species in the wild. The breeding of threatened Rothschild's giraffes is a key part of Giraffe Manor’s existence.

TINY TWIGAS BORN It was with great excitement that we welcomed three new babies this September, born to Kelly, Salma and Daisy. Daisy’s calf arrived right in front of the manor, delighting guests and team members alike who were lucky enough to witness this magical moment. It’s thrilling to watch these babies thriving under the expert care of their mums, galloping around the sanctuary and growing by the day.

BABY GIRAFFES WORLDWIDE

The GCF are celebrating giraffe population growth across the continent. In Uganda, the first baby was born to a group of critically endangered Nubian giraffes translocated three years ago. In the DRC, a population of critically endangered Kordofan giraffes have recovered from 22 individuals in 2012 to over 70 today. New babies are a great sign of conservation success and hope for the future. READ MORE
