Just some small (sad) hc’s I have of the Curtis’s because I’m bored lol

Darry definitely had to help with bills more than once when his parents were alive.

Ponyboys jealous of Soda and Darry for knowing their parents longer before they died

Ponyboy hates how he gets tongue-tied talking about his parents but not his best buddies that died

Sodapop cries at work more than he does at home.

Ponyboy hated how he thought of Steve more as a brother than Darry after their parents died.

Once Ponyboy gave Darry a Father's Day present from elementary school. (Their parents bawled their eyes out)

Sodapop once saw how much it stressed Darry to sign Ponyboy's papers for school (field trips and all that jazz) to the point that Sodapop told Ponyboy to just let him sign it instead.

i like to imagine that ponyboy finds and picks matching flowers for the gravestones of johnny and dallas, because he knows that johnny was the only thing dallas ever loved.

I realized something when reading chapter 6 of The Outsiders once again…

I had to ask myself “why is Ponyboy mentioning all the gun and all of the assistance from Dallas in the book (an English assignment that a teacher will read) but not to Jerry who Pony told everything to except that specific piece of information.”

Dally was still alive then. Pony didn’t want him to get into any trouble then.

Dallas is dead now. It’s fine if he brings it up in his essay because it can’t hurt Dallas now.

I noticed this and I actually had to close my book and just think for a minute. WOW.

ponyboy not wanting to cry in front of darry ponyboy thinking he doesn't deserve to cry after the socs jump him because he at least he have it as bad as johnny ponyboy going to sleep thinking that as long as he has soda he'll be okay ponyboy trying to convince himself that he doesn't care about darry ponyboy trying to convince himself that darry doesn't care about him ponyboy lying to himself constantly ponyboy trying to catch up with the rest of the gang so he's not seen as a little kid anymore ponyboy being forced to grow up too fast while darry's trying his hardest to prevent that from happening only to fail

god the harmonies between johnny and ponyboy at the end of Stay Gold so beautiful. i do not know music theory but istg something in how theyre constructed, or how theyre sung, it just emulates the bittersweet, teary feeling of reading that letter Perfectly

What if the crash that killed the Curtis parents went differently?

What if it happened two years before canon, and Pony volunteered to come along with his mom when she picked up both his dad and the frosting because he felt bad that he’d forgotten?

What if it wasn’t a train wreck, but an accident with another automobile?

And what if twelve-year-old Ponyboy was in the car?

okay but what if soda was a surprise baby? like he wasn’t an accident-they were trying to have kids, but they didn’t know mrs. curtis was pregnant until her belly started growing? (i feel like she was prone to anxiety and thought that was why she was sick in the morning)

going off of that, i feel like the curtis parents got darry a dog when he was younger (2 or 3?) so he wouldn’t be lonely (and he would not shut up about wanting another brother to play with so they opted fir a dog instead-Darry was an outdoor kid, Mr. Curtis was rambunctious and loved activity. It was this lovely golden retriever mutt-Darry insisted they name it “Doggy” (he was 2 cut him slack) and Mr. Curtis thought it was hilarious, so Doggy stuck.

Doggy was 2 when Soda was born and he was the most patient dog-Soda would pull at his ears and tail and the dog would just sit patiently. Soda used to love playing with Doggy too-he would just run around screaming “Doggy, Doggy!” over and over again

By the time Pony was born Doggy was 4 or 5-and honestly that dog looked over Pony like a 3rd parent, Lady and the Tramp style. If anyone got too close to baby Pony the dog would growl at them. Doggy always slept beside Pony’s crib and one time they found a baby Pony snuggled up in Doggy’s chest/stomach.
