it’s late and i’m tired so this might not make total sense but stick with me. there’s the scene in trk where all the foxes are having dinner at Halloween, and bee texts andrew which then sparks a conversation about her (and how neil doesn’t like her). nicky says how he was worried about bee to start because andrew’s been through eight doctors. andrew specifically replies, even as he’s busy texting, and says thirteen! and nicky follows up by saying ‘some insane number’.

the way i read it, both the physical book and the audio even more, is nicky brushing off the interruption to continue his story. and with this interpretation, i think this really captures exactly how misguided nicky is (and aaron too by extension) in his understanding of andrew. like andrew specifically gives him an answer and nicky hears it but doesn’t register it, or adjust his story. no wonder he’s so surprised to learn things later; he hasn’t really been listening to andrew anyway, even when andrew is actually giving information. (i did what i said i would do and fuck you for expecting anything else)

and sure this is such a small moment, but on my millionth reread of this series, it’s these little things that make me wonder

So, im sorry this took so long to write i got busy with school (end of a grading period), then i got (still have) a UTI, im in a lot of pain rn mainly my lower back so as i am writing this im laying on a heating pad.

Seeing Hotchner for the first time in 5 years was shocking, but seeing him like this was even more shocking. He had a look in his eyes he'd never seen before. It's not worry, it's not fear. ….. is it hurt? You think to yourself as you sit on your sofa talking to JJ.

How can he be hurt if he leaves? You didn't leave him, and he had no right to be upset at you. Clearly, he didn't want you, so what was the point in telling him that you had a child? Jack had never mentioned wanting anymore kids, so that would be one less thing for him to worry about.

The other agents were gone, leaving you alone with your ex. Could you even call him that? You two never made it official. And yet you still viewed him as your boyfriend,Was that stupid of you? probably. Did you care? not really.

It was quiet, not the comfortable quiet, but the uncomfortable kind—the kind that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up—kind of quiet. He looked at you; his eyes were ice cold. This hurt your heart more than it should have. It had been 5 years, and yet you still went over him.

Eliza was put down for a nap, so you didn't have to worry about her seeing this side of him. She didn't know that Hotchner was her dad because she never asked, but if he had, you would have told her.

“Why didn't you call me..." The old man asks quietly. You don't look at him; you don't dare fucking look at him, not because he would do anything bad, but because you knew you would fall for him all over again.

“You left. I didn't think you wanted anything to do with me." You respond plainly but quietly so as not to make the situation worse. Hotchner sighs and rests his face in his hands.

It was quiet for a long moment, and neither of you said, “Listen." I did what I thought was best," Aaron said in a stern tone, making you laugh. "I did what you thought was best." You pause for a moment. "Aaron, you left without any reason and didn't even give me time to fucking process everything, and as for my baby, which I know you're going to ask about,” you snapped. “I didn't think you would want to see her considering how fast you fucking left.”

Aaron was taken aback by your behavior; he's never seen you mad before. A look of shock on his face made him more shocked than before. “(Y/N)...." Before he could finish, you cut him off. “No. I found out I was pregnant three months after you left. You left, not me," the younger woman couldn't help but have her eyes filled with tears.

She was mad rightfully, so the man she loved left out of nowhere. How was she supposed to react, and the fact that he felt so entitled in this moment didn't make it any better?

“(Y/N)... listen to me, I want to be in her life. I want to be in your life." He sounded broken.. so broken.. so sad.. you let out a shaky breath. “You're just going to leave again." This broke Hotchner's heart. He knew you would have to gain your trust back, which was going to take a while, and he knew that until he gave your trust, he wouldn't be able to see his daughter. This was going to be a long day the rest of the year, Hotchner thought to himself as he got ready to speak again.

Have we ever stopped to consider the impact Robin's arrival had on Aaron? Because like I'm almost 100% positive she had a great impact on Andrew (and on Neil as well) because it showed he was ready to open his tight circle to yet another external person, but what was Aaron's reaction to that?

Nora said in the EC the twins were making progress in (re?)building their relationship, albeit almost too slowly to notice. They are becoming proper brothers, through the highs and lows of it, and it's a long process for the two of them. And yet, here is Andrew handpicking someone to replace him after he graduates to everyone's surprise when she has, seemingly, nothing special (I'm paraphrasing Nora a little bit here so don't hate me, I personally love Robin). But it is his choice, imposed to Wymack by a short note and a bottle of whiskey, so no one asks. Perhaps Aaron doesn't notice at first, but the more time she spends at PSU, the closer she seems to Andrew. He encourages her to fight back against the teammates who torment her, he takes her to Columbia and then she moves in with the cousins in the dorm where Andrew gives her his own bed so they have enough room to fit her in.

I mean, don't tell me this wasn't a shock to him. He has been fighting for Andrew's attention almost this entire time and yet, here she waltzes in, and grabs it so easily. I'm sure this must has been a major setback in their relationship because he must have felt so betrayed considering Andrew almost seems to be considering her as some kind of little sister. Of course he probably doesn't know everything about her past, so it must hurt him so bad to see his brother get attached to someone else so easily when he is right there. I bet their therapy sessions are either quite animated or deadly silent.

Nora also says eventually all the cousins end up coaching her after hours so honestly I would absolutely not be surprised if the first time he has to do it he just lashes out because what the hell makes her so special? Eventually, perhaps Robin stops right there and explains to him her entire past, and perhaps Aaron suddenly understands why Andrew would find interest in helping her because sure their past is a bit different, but also it has many similarities and now Aaron can see it. He probably feels dumb as hell for letting his own emotions cloud his judgement. They are all Foxes, all of them have a messy past and it shouldn't have come as a surprise that Robin's would be a bad one too considering Andrew is so keen on offering her his protection. Once Robin is done talking, Aaron definitely finds himself at a loss for words. His anger is gone, now replaced by something else he cannot quite pinpoint so he just goes back to coaching Robin as if nothing happened. It's only after this day that he begins accepting her among his family as well, going so far as introducing her to Katelyn who immediately becomes her friend because Katelyn is awesome and we love her in this house, and perhaps he also has a little talk about this with Andrew, who knows?

why is it so funny to me how they call the shatter me series popular bc it's from "booktok" like girly, this series was popular when i was back in high school when it first published? We're in the cafeteria yelling Team Aaron and Team Adam every day at school 😭😂 and the girlies be giving a whole justification essay as to why Team Aaron or Team Adam is the best and you have one girl in the corner of the table all quiet because she's Team Kenji. 😭💀
