Virgil leaned hard against a tree. They were absolutely screwed. They cared too much.

The fire in their stomach bubbled and sputtered. Their burning curse hissed in what remained of their soul. It was hungry. It wanted this. It prickled their skin and scratched their insides. They were in too deep. They had to abort the mission. They had to-

"Pardon me-"

Their dagger flew. Their blade pricked the head guard's neck, glaring with barely-bound fury.

First Knight Garroth held up his hands in surrender. "May I ask you don't kill me?"

Virgil dropped their blade. "Oh, Shad below, I'm sorry-"
