Day 3 of Hotsui Matsuri: Nihongo Legends-Sacred Weapons
Hey! Welcome to another day of Hotsui Matsuri! I wanted to write a little piece about these mystical objects in Japanese folklore since they are sprinkled in a lot of anime and japanese media. Many of my favorites come from classic tales like The Tale of the bamboo-cutter, where a bamboo-cutter and his wife raise a tiny child he finds in a bamboo shoot who turns out to be the missing Moonā€¦

Q: Jin Ling, what is one thing Jiujiu refuses to teach you that you wish you could learn?
Tumblr media
šŸ‹: jiujiu controls zidian in such a way that she can produce enough heat to kill insects, but not enough to burn the surroundings! this would be SO useful during summer.

I really like the idea that Rhaenys gets just... steamed whenever someone dehumanises Meleys or trivialises her - treats her as a pawn or just an asset.
So instances like when Meleys is imprisoned by the Greens just for what she is and what she could mean for the war, when Daemon just counts Meleys amongst the fighting dragons for Team Black, or he tries to order Rhaenys to take her "mount" and fly with him, or whenever ANY of the men on the Black Council say they should use dragons, send dragons, press their advantage (dragons).
All of those times, I feel like Rhaenys is, to various degrees, outraged.
I think whenever Rhaenys councils against dragon warfare and the bloodiness of it and when she responds to suggestions of attacking with dragons (like side-eying Alfred Broome and wishing his head would catch fire) or the inevitably of it... it's with a personal stake.
Because it's not just unleashing hell. It has specific implications and a specific role and specific risk for a creature that Rhaenys loves.
When they talk about sending dragons to war, it's sending Meleys to war.

hey remember those FUCKING RELICS Three Hopes introduced? What the fuck was that about??????
Wonder what I'm on about? Well here you are because I wish these were the ramblings of a depraved mind and not my accursed reality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a whole bunch of other introductions, but they're either Sacred Weapons (I just assume Macuil was busy at the forge once upon a time) or associated with a Crest that never had a Relic before (Hapi gets one called Hrotti). but THESE TWO???????? Are they mimics like Aymr? We'll never know, because there's no reparation mechanic like in Three Houses--we can't know if it uses Agarthium or Umbral Steel. But if they're honest-to-god Relics, did these Nabateans have more than one heart? Were they twins and functionally their hearts are the same? NINTENDO COME BACK AND ANSWER FOR YOUR FUCKING CRIMES.

my newest and cool lore tidbit that i was meditating on was how the m-34th makes their weapons and tools magic-resistant ... as an aside, its been in my mind for a while that magic has something to do with bones, like bones being the "pathways" of magic, and thus one of the hardest materials to work with as a witch if its possible to work with them at all.
im still fleshing out this idea and deciding if its something i want to work with but in practice how it manifests in the story is that magic cant/has a hard time healing broken bones, and a broken bone disrupts the flow of magic in a witch or mage (this was originally murdas weakness equivalent to mochis thing with water-- as the crow witch shes good at flying but only because her bones are easily broken). the reason im hesitating to use it is that it seems like a HUGE weakness for any witch but supposedly they have magic that can at least reinforce bones OR madam springs has methods for relatively quick organic healing
anyway back to the m-34th point, i think it would be fucking baller if they managed to create magic resistant shields and weapons by infusing the bones of past black canvases into a super hard metal material as to be able to cut down anything material and also anything magic

sure sex is great but have you ever listened to the light behind your eyes by my chemical romance at 2:00 in the morning when you were fourteen and felt like you were completely alone because you were letting down everyone that has ever cared about you to any degree and desperately needed someone to tell you that it was all gonna be okay-

sex isnā€™t even that big a deal. itā€™s literally just like, a thing you can do. all of this is so unnecessary. someone elseā€™s religion forbidding fun of any kind shouldnā€™t have to be my problem ffs

It makes me sick that the Eye of Michael has been around for 133 years (almost as old as the twins!). They've wreaked so much destruction and hurt so many children... And if you survive their shit, if you're even good, they give you something to continue the cycle.
Wolfwood did indeed do the Punisher justiceā€”just not in the way Chapel intended.

RE thinking about King Gerard in Unicorn Overlord -
We knew the man was a trash dad and a trash king, but thinking about his "sacred blade" and the ring he gives Alain in the main quest...
Both items are supposed (?) to be blessed, somehow, by the holy Unicorn and prevent, gameplay wise, status/afflictions : Alain with his grandpa's sword cannot be frozen or poisoned anymore.
Ludonarration being a thing, if Gerard died to poison while he had access to this kind of equipment, it either meant the sword+ring didn't work when he was shot, or, he didn't have them when he took his "let's travel around the world" trip.
However, lore wise, we know the Unicorn is a symbol of faithfulness, trust and oaths - Rosalinde warns Alain that if he betrays his covenant, he will suffer a fate worse than death
(which might have been done by Zenoirans with their whole "sacrifice that horned pony Baltro said it'd be fun" which condemned them to the netherworld)
What if Gerard was spurned/couldn't wear any "unicorn blessed" stuff during his reign, because he was not the kind of king who could uphold covenants, be faithful and trusted etc etc?
I mean, bar his implied affair with Alcina - while Ilenia and Ilenia's sib were kiddies and most likely had their mom around - Gerard effectively ditched his duty as a King, going as far as calling his coronation something like a nice distraction/event.
Sure, his musings about what makes him more competent than a random to rule and reflection about status could have stuck a chord with some people about general themes like classicism* and all -
Nonetheless ditching your country and the oath to protect/rule/govern it that comes with being its ruler, especially when your family is magically bonded to a fantasy creature that values faithfulness and adherence to vows, is a dick move and I can't unsee the "he was suddenly hit by a poisonous arrow" as some sort of karmic retribution : unicorn themed accessories could have saved him, but King Gerard was - from what we know - spitting on the Holy Unicorn's principles and covenants, so he was banned/couldn't use those accessories and died as a result.
And died because back then, Alcina didn't buy a charm that cures poison.
*Clive seems to have been his biggest supporter, talking about the Province of the Ashen Blue and its creation but from a ruling/Cornian royal family standpoint, the creation of the Ashen Blue was akin to lighting a bomb - and Gerard ran away before being caught in its explosion, leaving his kid daughter deal with the consequences.
The Ashen Blue Order and Province, per Clive's story, is basically a land Gerard gave to minor knights who would only obey to him, and not to their feudal lord (the pecking order seemed to have been this King > Big Noble > Smaller Noble > Random Noble > Knight with the > noting the bonds of vasselage existing).
Gerard thus erased Big, Smaller and Random Nobles, so the Knights would be able to administrative their province themselves, and only obey to him (and not to their lords).
Of course doing something like this, and we have enough examples IRL, would alienate those nobles, and they wouldn't be super happy with the King or Royal Family who decided to pull something like this.
We know in the prologue that nearly all Lords from the Kingdom of Cornia turned against Ilenia, is it because they were all fooled by Galerius-Valmore, or because they were all corrupt? Or because some of them had legit grievances they fostered since Gerard's days and the dude being killed like bum their grievances were transfered to Gerard's daughter, Ilenia?
Shit dad, shit king and most likely shit husband, hopefully he passed the "be a broken unit on a pony" genes to his grandson, because otherwise... He'd be a total failure lol
Still, I like how UO spends time telling and showing the player that the various countries had their own issues before Zenoira rolled over them - unlike a certain verse it doesn't make Zenoiran invasion and occupation uwustified and no one wants to walk with Galvius nor hold his hand - and it's up to the newer generation, or Alain's friends, to change that for the better.

I think haunted museums are an underutilized concept
you take so many personal objects from peoples final resting places, at least SOME of that shit is gonna be haunted or cursed.
Night at the museum is the closest we as a society have come to a museum horror story and thatā€™s a damn shame

The cup can be made of various materials including glass, metal, horn, crystal, wood, porcelain and can be plain, colored or decorated with symbols or applications. The shape of the chalice itself can vary from simple glass, cup, globet to more elaborate shapes. The traditional form is that of the chalice used to hold wine. In popular tradition the chalice is primarily associated with the symbol of the Holy Grail, a cup with miraculous healing powers, sometimes providing eternal youth or sustenance in infinite abundance.
