Concept design sketches for the main cast of Sonic Adventure in my superhero human AU! With both their hero personas and secret identities! (Or, in Knuckles’ case, his real identity and a casual style disguise for going about the city unbothered lol)
ALSO if you’re wondering why Tails and especially Big are still furries here… well this isn’t just a human AU, it’s also a superheroes AU so they all have the same powers that they have in canon! Tails is a shapeshifting kitsune who still uses his two tails to fly, and Big is a mutant and the local cryptid of the Mystic Ruins… but he’s still just a chill dude who likes fishing! He’s not exactly a ‘hero’ but he does have powers and likes to use them to help out his friends :)

Tikal and Shadow of Moebius
Or maybe IxTab and Bolide ?
I'd love to read your comments and thoughts on this matter
Tumblr media
I wanted to draw my own versions of the characters from Anti-Mobius.
P.s: IxTab - Goddess of sacrifice and hara-kiri in Mayan mythology
Bolide - "throwing spear". This is a bright, large meteorite
It would be fun to imagine SA1 and SA2 from Scourge's perspective! :
Where in Tikal's case, she and Chaos would try to flood Scourge's kingdom, believing war to be the only correct solution to problems.
And Shadow would be a follower of Black Arms and come to usurp power Lol

I’m not surprised that people chose more HungryHero content from the previous poll— and you guys will get that with the illustration I said I was going to make.
But since I had an option regarding an old AU I could revamp for it, I figured I’d share some facts about that said old au for those who are interested.
If you can find his original self, I applaud you.
DISCLAIMER: this au has themes regarding mental disorders such as DID, BPD, (C)PTSD, etc. Disorders such as these are NOT CANNON to the AU as I do not have these disorders (aside from possibly CPTSD) and I don’t feel confident enough to create an au/character with said disorders and keep it as accurate as I can be. Any harmful stereotypes created in this au are purely accidental and it is not my intention to fear monger for people with these disorders. This au is not fully completed and is just for fun.
ForgottenHome (old name) was figuratively an anti version of LostKing set somewhat in the same “universe”. While LK was Scourge traveling through au to au trying to kill Sonic because his home (and him) was erased (and he’s petty), FH was essentially what would happen to Sonic during the reboot— how he would get confused over current and past iterations of his friends and people who may or may not exist anymore. It was a concept that I didn’t really go anywhere with, but I always enjoyed it.
So here we are, the new iteration of ForgottenHome!
The current version of FH is largely the same; Archie gets a rewrite, Sonic gets confused on what is real anymore, he mentally snaps and hurts people. But now there is an extra character into the mix, himself from his early Archie days (before the SA1 design change (Classic Archie if you will)).
This version of himself is purely hallucinatory— only viewable to Sonic himself— and while he does generally act as a “guiding light” for him, because of his mental state, Sonic views him more as mockery— something he once was and now has soiled— and he does act this way, mocking him for what he could’ve been.
A lot of Sonic’s “outbursts” are often triggered by his hallucinatory self, along with the sight of the SatAM cast. Luckily, he hasn’t outright killed any of his friends during these, but he’s came close each time. He doesn’t know if he should feel bad or not regarding these “outbursts” since he can’t tell if his friends are real or if they’re even the “correct” version of them.
A very sad boy I’ve been thinking about. Perhaps he’ll have a happy ending someday. Who knows.

Caveat: I’m very aware that the moment at Red mountain is super nebulous. I’m going to go with probably the most accepted interpretation (that the tribunal killed Nerevar and Voryn didn’t betray him) mostly to preserve my sanity, and because Vivec admitted to it in the 36th lesson. You can argue against that, completely fair, honestly the contradictions make that whole story even more interesting since it’s more like a murder mystery than a typical one-and-done story. Encourages the player to engage more closely, which is Neat.
Aight so the crux of this is that they’re both embodiments of the “corrupted by knowledge beyond our understanding” trope, and how that ties to their stories as villains.
Voryn’s corruption happened when he became connected with the heart, probably when he died; Lorkhan “reached out” to him, tried to gift the knowledge of the nature of the universe, and that was enough to corrupt and shatter Voryn. Combined with the heart’s power, we now have Dagoth Ur, a demonic entity built on the shreds of Voryn that are left. Dagoth Ur is aware of the world being a dream (which can be likened to the game being, well, a game world), but he’s described as “the false dreamer”: he knows the world is a dream, but he thinks he’s the dreamer, and everyone is extensions of himself and his dream, NPCs of his own making.
Sliske’s happened… who knows when, but we do know he has some understanding of the nature of the world. It would seem like he came into the knowledge when he obtained the stone of Jas, but the 4th article of “A critic’s review” strongly implies he knew more way back during the empire (Note: I’m aware this was just intended to act as advertisement for the Glacor front, but it still stands out as kinda weird timeline-wise). Either way, it happened “at some point”, and Sliske for sure knows more about the nature of the universe than he lets on. Your mileage may vary on how far he knows, but it’s certainly a disconcerting amount, likely enough to colour his perspective on the world around him.
It’s played for laughs, mostly. In kindred spirits quest, he references the player respawning twice (”Oh, are you going to kill yourself and respawn to get help?” and “So when you wake up in Lumbridge you'll have that to look forward to.”) as well as a few tidbits in Sliske’s Endgame that aren’t quite on the same level but certainly feel like pointed comments about the nature of the game (”You could take them all out! Just imagine the loot they'd drop!” and “that would be terrible pacing. You're what, halfway through? We can't have the big boss fight just yet.”) That being said it only goes so far; on a non-canon run, you can make a fourth wall breaking joke back to him, and he’s very confused by it, but that’s non-canon so not relevant here.
Note: Jokes that reference Runescape’s nature as a game do happen somewhat often, especially in older content where the game was much more loose with its lore, or in events/conversations that are considered non-canon (such as Gower’s quest). Outside of that, it’s usually the adventurer who makes these kinds of jokes, and rarely NPCs within the story. Tangentially, the OSRS wiki has a page on fourth wall breaks, but the RS3 wiki does not, probably reflecting how RS3 is a bit more strict in its approach to lore.
Different characters, similar approaches to the villain role, being that they’re villains of extensive knowledge about the fundamental nature of their universes. For Sliske, that’s as much as his depth is defined. Dagoth Ur, on the other hand, goes a little further.
Dagoth Ur firmly sees what he's doing is right. It's not even just a conviction, it's the way he views reality. Nibani mentions this if you ask about the dreams. “He hears laughter and love, but he makes monsters and ghouls. He woos as a lover, but he reeks with fear and disgust.” Nibani describes the dreams consistently as lies, and she’s both right and wrong. Dagoth Ur lies about the reality all the characters are living in, but he isn’t lying about his reality, the perspective he’s seeing the world from. The false dream is extremely real to him, his blight is a gift, his offers of friendship are heartfelt. It’s only because we’re outside of his view that we can see these things for what they really are. But still, there’s honesty in that, and that honesty is really, really important to what makes him both a sympathetic villain and an utterly terrifying one.
How much of that honesty, those offers of friendship, is from the scrap of Voryn still left in Dagoth Ur? Not sure, but it is still there. Which is the key difference between how Sliske and Dagoth Ur handle this type of role.
Sliske doesn’t really have anything. At least, we’re not shown that he has anything more. We know he has fears, he has doubts, he has wildly swinging emotions and, allegedly, a motive. But that’s it, really. None of these facets go into much depth other than being shown to exist. For all we know, there’s really nothing much going on under the hood.
And heck, most frustratingly, Sliske outright says that himself! During Sliske’s Endgame, there’s this exchange between Zaros and Sliske: Zaros: Oh Sliske, my poor child. Had I known the depth of your madness, perhaps I could have saved you. Sliske: Don't you get it Zaros? There is nothing to save! “Nothing to save” because yeah, his character lacks depth, especially at this point in the story. Kudos to the writing for being rather blunt about that, but opening a puzzle box and finding it empty is rather boring. Even more so if it doesn’t even have a note saying “lol get fucked”. At least that’d be in character for Sliske!
On a minor tangent, Sliske’s writings in Kindred Spirits is one of the more key times we heard the phrase “Do you think you can save them?”, during the Death At Sea book. What makes this instance stand out is it isn’t just the player acknowledging the phrase. Sliske does also. Generally, when the phrase is spoken, an NPC says it either completely unconsciously, or without awareness of what their phrasing means specifically to the player. It’s considered pretty meaningless within the story, but during Death at Sea, Sliske gets attached to it, the player’s name, and the mention of Xau-tak. The phrase means something to him as much as it does to us.
Perhaps that “nothing to save” could have been “nothing left to save”. But that’d have required some more leg work.
For Dagoth Ur, that legwork comes in the form of Voryn’s friendship to Nerevar, and his honesty about his friendship (or at least, honesty about his perspective on the friendship anyway). Given we play as the Nerevarine, and have some connection to Nerevar whether we like it or not, that makes Dagoth’s appeals very personal. He’s talking past us, sure, but it’s still very pointed. What that part is that’s reaching out is left up to interpretation, but at times it feels like a shred of Voryn still leftover under the influence of the heart.
(What it feels like and what it is are two very different things, but in a story, what the reader feels often overrides the reader’s logic in any given story event. Knowing how to toy with that makes for a great villain, as I’ll talk about more in a bit.)
Sliske talks to us, but there’s not really much connection there. We learnt in Azzanadra’s quest that Guthix sent him on a wild goose chase towards the player (”Whatever name I give him, whoever I point him at, he will be drawn to them like a moth to a flame.”), but we’re not really given any reason to chase him in return. The closest we get is that he’s a mystery (established early on but certainly in Kindred spirits) in the same way that the player character is a mystery to him, but as mentioned earlier, he’s a mystery with no resolution.
So there’s no mystery, no connection, not really… much of anything? Despite the fact that he’s very clearly as important to the World Guardian enchantment as we are. He’s the shadow to our light, he’s bound to us as we are to him! And it means absolutely nothing. Canon doesn’t give us much to really empathise with. It tells us we’re connected to him, Sliske states this in the following quote from Fate of the Gods, but that’s not the same as showing us (“Oh, aren't you? We both took some of Guthix's power. We both watched him die. That makes us connected in stronger ways than mere siblings. I'd count us as equals… if you didn't have so much catching up to do.”)
Yet it… does? Kind of? Nearly did. The shadow and light voices, that first appear in Azzanadra’s quest, are the closest we get to a sympathetic image of Sliske. Beings bound to the player, forced to cooperate with us because otherwise our failure would be failure for them. And they’re honestly pretty great! They work really well to make us fall into the trap of sympathising with him, but again, it goes nowhere. It’s later mentioned they’re not Sliske, so therefore, not even relevant to this conversation.
To be clear, I’m not saying a villain should be woobified. Dagoth Ur is a frightening villain because he’s so sympathetic. We want to reach out and help him! Doing so would condemn Tamriel to his destruction. There’s no ifs or buts about this. While he has a friendship worth saving, an honesty worth saving, you’re left to weigh that tug of the heart strings against the fact that he’s the scraps of someone already dead, being puppeted around by an ancient power that will destroy the world if you don’t do something about it. It’s terrifying! It’s perfectly manipulative! It’s exactly what a villain of his type should be.
Vivec warns us against “the crime of benevolence” in sermon 15 of the 36 lessons. This is what he meant. What more benevolence is there than seeing the shred of pain under a villain and reaching out to it? That's not how it works though. Sometimes the villain can't be saved and it's just sad. Dagoth Ur isn’t even a sappy, pathetic villain, either. He’s pretty darn chipper! It’s the history, and all that we learn around him, that hurts, which lends him to be much more bittersweet than anything.
Sliske’s character danced on the tantalising edge of something more existential, but in the end the story chose not to dive off the ledge. Why? Don’t know. The game has always been a bit tongue in cheek about its approach to the fourth wall, but it’s still a thing that exists so it’s not far fetched to explore it with more depth. Since its always been a thing in the game, it wouldn’t change the nature of it. That hesitance means the level of depth Sliske needs to be something more sympathetic is missing. Without that depth, there’s no connection. No connection, no sympathy. Which means (asides from his boss fight which is neat) his death occurs without much fanfare, and its easy to shrug off without much emotional impact.
if sliske had been more like dagoth ur, in this essay i will

Totally normal conversation with a emerald definitely not talking to a ghost!
First(ish) time really drawing shadow not as a doodle and I think I need more practice lol
SO. this may be a au I'm making now (it's a slippery slope from "haha these two should be friends" to a incredibly complex lore dump that keeps me up till 3 am ) and if somebody wants info I will try and make a mildly coherent explanation
TLDR of the au for now: tikal chose to stay on earth after the end of sa1 to experience the present/future, but her soul is bound to the chaos energy and she uses the emeralds as portaly-windows into the physical plane of reality
shadow somehow, through use of some emeralds Tikal was linked to, gains the ability to see and hear her. Now she literally lives rent-free in his head.

I got bored a couple of months ago and started working on a Sonic AU set in a post-apocalyptic future where Metal Sonic rebelled against Eggman after the events of CD, later leading to Sonic's death during the events of Sonic and Knuckles. Tails (age 18) is the primary main character. He works as the lead scientist/tactician for a rebel group called the Metal Breakers, led by him, Knuckles, and Amy against the Metal Emperor's (Metal Sonic) empire. Kit (placeholder name, because he technically isn't the same character as Kitsunami) is Tails' lab assistant/caretaker who was hired by Knuckles.
Tails' design is a mix of inspirations from all over the place, borrowing elements from Archie's adult Tails, Boom Tails, the jet anklets from SA1, and Movie Tails (Movie Tails' shoes inspired the design of the boots). Kit is just Kit in a lab coat and fluffier, more friendly features to make him look less adorably pathetic and instead just a cute little guy who's there to make sure Tails doesn't go into a mental breakdown.
By the way, this is my first time posting my art anywhere. I've done art for years but never found the courage to post it in the past, nor did I really know where to start. But I decided to just do it and remembered a friend of mine recommending Tumblr to me once. But if anyone could give recommendations on where else I should post my stuff, I'd appreciate it.

YEAH NO YOU'RE 100% RIGHT LMAO. I was talking with my friend about this, how Void would only really be able to catch feelings for someone he sees as a peer or someone who can actually best him. Those feelings would also not be very healthy, translating into Void fixating or obsessing over whoever he had grown attached to.
Void has a god complex, and because of that, he puts himself up on a pedestal above everyone else. This only results in him becoming isolated, believing himself to be the only person in the world. In his perspective, anyone he can recognize as an equal can only be two things, 1) a competitor that must be erased or 2) a kindred spirit to be latched on to.
I think, at his core, Void is actually lonely. I don't think he actually consciously acknowledges it, but he's a deeply empty person. He craves power above all else, and his ego is entirely attached to his own self-perceived superiority over everyone around him. Shipping Void is like trying to give a tiger that's spent its whole life in a zoo a mate, you carefully introduce them and hope he sees the other tiger as a potential partner instead of competition. 😂
So, the voices of brainrot won so I had to put this into words cause I have been thinking about this idea for about… two hours now and I HAVE to put it out there.
The character I was thinking about was a Sonadow fan kid Void made by the wonderful @emthimofnight . Go check out all of her work, it’s absolutely divine! Her stuff is what ultimately inspired me to start drafting my own Sonadow fan kid.
Anyways, I, the romance writer that I am, was trying to think of how the actual hell a romance Void would even come about. A TL;DR summary on Void as a character: Void is narcissistic, greedy, selfish, born and raised villain with a god-complex so massive it makes Mystic Messenger’s Rika’s complex look angelic by comparison. A romance between him and… well- literally anyone- would never work. Despite his good looks, no romance would get past the other person’s attempts to initiate as, in Emthimofnight’s own words on Void on a post about their character’s reactions to being confessed to, “He just assumes it is natural for someone to be attracted to him… …whether he actually reciprocates is entirely determined by what he could get out of the person confessing.”
However, in my continuous back and forth with myself, I kept coming back to the second and third words used to describe him, greedy and selfish. The reason being was that I technically already knew how to make a character like that enthralled into a romance thanks to a manga called, “Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-Kun!”.
To keep myself from completely spoiling one of my, at the time of writing this post, two favourite archs in the whole manga, I’ll just describe the way the mangaka makes the greedy and selfish character fall in love with the object of their affection: B gives A a smack to the face with reality that their is someone above them, A’s sudden confusion and yet fascination with this new complete stranger who just broke into their head, the fascination leading to A trying to get B, only for B to be constantly putting themselves just out of reach A’s grasp, driving A to only want B more, finally, both dumbasses are into this so it keeps going.
The second step onwards aren’t exactly hard to to imagine happening, as they are just natural consequences of both characters’s writing, leading both characters to make to follow step after step. It was just that first step that was putting me in a bind. What in the hell would you have to do to make Void even consider you to be better than him? So, I kept trying to go back to what gave him the god complex in the first place. It was his ability to fight, right?
That’s when it hit me: someone just has to beat him in a fight.
Before you say that’s impossible, firstly, nothing is truly impossible in writing, secondly, if we’re talking about fighting, if someone is just as gifted as him that has done more training than him, bitch is getting his ass handed to him. People with god-complexes often either stop, or never started with gifted people, improving themselves in the area that gave them the god-complex in the first place. It’s why villains with them are defeated more often than ones without them.
Just imagining Void deeper and deeper into all consuming, rather obsessive, love that slowly drives to actually start getting stronger and stronger, while literally everyone watches in object horror, and as those who try to control him try to force him to stop, the end up giving up their hand, making Void doing the most selfish and greedy thing he could have ever done in that situation, leaving. That kind of stuff is what I live for.
Anyway’s, thank you for coming to my TED Talk, Imma go pass out now.

SONIC AU COLLISION: ROUND 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonic Ghost Hunters AU belongs to @sharks3ye
Heart of Chaos belongs to @hyper-cryptic [link to masterpost]
Explore each world below the cut!
Sonic Ghost Hunters AU:
Just as the title suggests, their entire thing is about hunting ghosts! The world was somewhat rebuilt to be a bigger focus on paranormal rather than how sonic's original universe would be. Changed to be more realistic than not — having powers isn't normal.
Sonic got involved initially for simply the thrill of it, Tails is there mostly to make sure he doesn't die or something and knuckles was essentially bullied into joining. Amy barges in later as a news reporter after finding out about them. They all thought of her as a nuisance for a long time before she officially joined the gang (Sonic and her still bicker to this day).
And yes many other characters also are too involved n stuff its not jst these 4 (人^з^)-☆
Heart of Chaos:
Heart of Chaos AU is formed around a prophecy made by Tikal, one about a hero that can balance peace and chaos, who will be accompanied by an equidna warrior that will treat them like kin. This au idea is based on the super sonic mural :]
Of this prophecy comes out Sonic, later renamed to Spikes, years later after Tikal's wish. The Master Emerald itself taking the form of a new life, a being of chaos energy and flesh. Spikes is ""born"" in a hidden chao garden in Angel Island, and is taken care of by Tikal's spirit, as she is connected to Spikes, but so is Chaos. Later, around when Spikes is 4yr, she entraps herself with Chaos in the chao garden's pond so that Chaos possibly create a doomsday even using Spikes' body. The pond becomes frozen solid where not even the hottest summers can melt it.
Once Knuckles and Spikes meet, when he is around 10 years old, this kickstarts the journey back to Angel Island, which gets rudely interrupted by Eggman releasing Chaos, and SA1 events happen. This is where Tikal and Spikes get reunited once again and she tells both Spikes and Knuckles in-depth about the prophecy and the war. She informs them the great danger that Spikes and everyone in Mobius is: if Spikes' chaos energy were to become unbalanced, it would corrupt itself, the chaos emeralds and everything in it's path, causing the destruction of Mobius itself as it would transform Spikes into an almost unrecognizable version of himself: Dark Spikes.
This is where I start jumping around the timeline and doing my own fun stuff with this concept.
Three important arcs in Heart of Chaos are SA2, Sonic 06, ShTH and particularly Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Forces. :>

Wow, it's been a while since I drew something based on Sonic the Hedgehog!...
Well, well, I tried my hand at the Sonic Ova style a little, and I liked it!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, the world of Sonic Ova - Planet Freedom is for me the most beautiful, interesting and canon place, and I am very sad that this world did not and never received its continuation...
This whole story with Sonic living on Mobius or Planet Earth is some kind of nonsense to me, because when I see cultural inconsistencies in the Sonic canon (which does not exist?? wtf-) I feel almost physically ill. A lot of characters were lost, deleted despite games and comics.
Eggman as a character stands still, and Sonic's world is not even clearly divided into which states...
Sonic's Ova revealed its potential for me in one film - What happened to the people in the new territory of "Dark Eggman"? Was it the apocalypse? How long ago did this happen? Is this why people moved to the fly islands? Why did people acquire animal features (For example, Sarah's cat ears and tail)? Is this due to the merger with the "Mobians"? Were there anthropomorphic animals before the apocalypse, or are they a consequence of it? Maybe the reason?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What about Sonic and Tails' house? Damn, did you see this COOL DESTROYED PLANE?!? Now remember Tails' house from IDW comics, which is just a damn joke
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't love the damn Black Doom saga enough because it feels like a cheap Metarex parody. The only good thing Black Doom brought was the character Eclipse from Archie Comics -...Oh yeah, he doesn't exist anymore either. Like Cosmo.
Sally was a typical good character from the 97's who could stand up to the mouse from Chip 'n' Dale, but due to the company's negligence we have no SatAm ending, some kind of porn parody in Archie from Penderson, #Rally4Sally
No Sonic Ova, no completed Sonic Multiverse, there is no properly explained story of Silver, Blaze and Elise from Sonic 2006.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What about the fact that it was Sonic who was the Ultimate Life Form in the plot of SA2? What? Don't remember this? But what about the blue flask that fell to Earth and was considered lost? I congratulate you on the bad narrative of the SA1 and SA2 game series, friends...
Tumblr media
Sonic Ova and SA1-2 feels like the only correct versions, it pains me to see how Sonic’s character is now changing for a new audience and the psychopathic egoist and narcissist Sonic turns into a sweet and shy hero, although even taking into account the seemingly terrible and negative qualities, Sonic was a hero...
Changes have always been and will be, this is normal, I don’t want to shout that it was better before and the grass is greener, but for me the canon is only Sonic Ova vision, and I would like to add this vision for myself in my Sonic Ova AU. I think it would be fun. Just for me and my auditory...
So ... What do you think about all of this?

I actually have a lore drop for this gal. Tikal died in her early adulthood in my au, which is why she looks older as a spirit. The echidna tribe's death wasn't thousands of years ago either, just a few years after Knuckles hatched, him only being six. (More similarly to when they died out in the movies, just not in the same way as in the movies, and instead how SA1 handles the charge at Chaos) So Knuckles actually just barely knew her before she came to pass. She's his aunt. (His dad was her brother. While he was next heir because of being older, she was the one marked. This also means because she was the current guardian, she's the only one of the whole tribe who had the capability to seal herself in the emerald with Chaos, and live in spirit.) She converses with Knuckles when he needs advice or is just lonely, just as she did when she was alive. Also, ofc she adores her grand niece and grand nephew. I'll explain the Master Emerald lore and Chaos + the tribe a bit better in a seperate post later ;) Long story short, it was peaceful, and they were all aware of eachother and protected eachother, but then it wasn't peaceful because of greed.
