There are a lot of wild writing decisions in Undertale, but for my money the wildest has to be, hey, we're going to casually reveal that Alphys and Undyne's meet-cute was actually an interrupted suicide attempt, and imply that Undyne might be deliberately playing up her oblivious meathead persona because she's aware of this and doesn't want to have that conversation, then never bring any of this up again because the story isn't about them.

I’m watching bit compilations of the Fantasy High campaign(s) for Dimension 20 at the minute, and I’m watching one for Junior Year ep 16, and I love …

There’s a bit where some of Kipperlilly’s motivations for hating the party are revealed, and it’s revealed that she’s jealous that Riz’s father was killed, because she wants a cool and tragic backstory and thinks that her lack of it has kept her back at the adventuring academy while they had an advantage. And Siobhan, as Adaine, without batting an eye:

“And her response to that was to be mad at us, and not to kill her parents?”

To which the others respond … Okay, Adaine, that’s the sociopath test! And just general slightly spooked humour.

And I just love that … You can really see the girl who on her first day at school had a fight break out on top of her and wound up killing a lunch lady with a ladle. You can see the girl who did have to kill her abusive father after he casually murdered her sister. This is all coming from trauma, but she puts such a casual … Like, girl, get with the program on it. There’s such disdain for Kipperlilly whining about it instead of actually doing something.

I love that it is genuinely mostly a joke, she’s not seriously advocating for murder here, but it also does say quite a bit about Adaine. About her trauma and her pragmatism and her lingering perfectionism and her rather enforced nonchalance about the potential necessity of parent murder and her distinct attitude that if a problem presents itself, then you fix it, doing whatever you have to do in the process.

There’s just a sense that, you know, if Kipperlilly has decided to be evil and has decided that she’s fine with killing people, which we have proof she has, why is she not going with the logical solution to her problem? If you have decided that you’re fine with murdering people and that morality is no longer a stumbling block, why are you not doing the most efficient thing to solve your stated problem? If you’re going to be evil, be better at it.

Adaine would be an absolutely terrifying bad guy. And also probably needs more counselling.

This show tonally nailed it, Allison’s plots were so gripping and she’d run face first into bright colors and a zany plot so at odds with her attempts to achieve something, anything, that it felt violent. The laugh tracks feels more and more sinister as the show unravels, halfway through the first season and I found my skin subtly skin crawling whenever a scene opened with it— the viewer is with Allison in the feeling of ‘oh god what now.’

It was honestly hard to watch, at several points, because the show is relentless in its thesis, so thoroughly portraying the one-sided exhaustion and helpless rage and oppression in this dynamic. You can see the justifications and rationale we’ve all heard for boys will be boys behavior play out, and the way being tied to that is a prison in and of itself for the stereotypical sitcom wife who has to live in the real world.

Allison is not a passing consideration for her husband beyond how she meets his needs, for beer, for a punchline, for feeding him and maintaining the house and runs errands for his latest whim. Kevin cannot, even once in the show’s course, meet so basic a request as taking a dish out of the oven. He fails entirely at any sort of emotional connection with Allison, making gestures that are self serving and show an utter lack of understanding for her while demanding praise for his less than bare minimum effort. Like bogleech, I’ve also known couples like this. And frequently the wives are trying so hard to maintain the appearance of a succeeding marriage that the gritty interiority is brushed under fake sitcom smiles, which when you’re younger is just what these relationships look like.

Been watching Kevin Can Fuck Himself on Netflix this week. It's a fascinating show, and easy to digest as background noise while working.

Kevin Can Fuck Himself is a serious drama sendup of the classic sitcom dynamic. It's two different shows mashed into one another.

The show's front is your typical Manchild Husband sitcom about a man named Kevin McRoberts. Every episode, he has a new wacky shenanigan to drag his wife and neighbors into, which usually blows up in his face spectacularly.

But Kevin is not the show's main character. Whenever he's onscreen, the show is lit and shot in sitcom fashion, with laugh track and applause and musical cues and all that jazz. The universe revolves around him and responds as sitcoms do to his every whim.

But this show is actually about his wife Allison. And whenever she's away from Kevin, the show changes genres to a serious drama piece. It's a show about the emotional and financial abuse of being tied down to the role of the Manchild Husband's "Nagging Wife", and more broadly the effects that his Comedic Sociopathy have on the put-upon supporting cast around him as well.

It's the story of a woman's quest to finally escape from the cage that her marriage to an impulsive, inconsiderate, and entirely self-centered piece of shit has trapped her in.

The Tarot from the new trailer has me FLIPPING OUT (Sorry for the shitty screenshot) I was already making an analysis on the previous cards we got, but THIS has really got me doing backflips in my head because of the implications.

Let me explain.

First off, have you noticed that one of these cards is not like the others?

The first card, Strawberry Cookie, is in reverse. She is on the major arcana card XII - The Hanged Man. When the Hanged Man is in Reverse, it represents Delays, resistance, stalling, indecision, stagnation.

"The upright Hanged Man encourages you to pause for a moment and see things from a different perspective. Reversed, this card can show that you know you need to hit the pause button, but you are resisting it. Instead, you fill your days with tasks and projects, keeping busy and distracting yourself from the actual issue that needs your attention. Your spirit and body are asking you to slow down, but your mind keeps racing. Stop and rest before it’s too late. The Universe will only dial up the volume if you ignore it, and as a result, you may end up crashing. So, as soon as you hear the call, clear your schedule and make the space so you can tune in and listen."

Next we move on to Gingerbrave's card: 0 - The Fool.

In the Upright Position, the Fool represents new beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, a free spirit, and adventure.

"To see the The Fool generally means a beginning of a new journey, one where you will be filled with optimism and freedom from the usual constraints in life. When we meet him, he approaches each day as an adventure, in an almost childish way. He believes that anything can happen in life and there are many opportunities that are lying out there, in the world, waiting to be explored and developed. He leads a simple life, having no worries, and does not seem troubled by the fact that he cannot tell what he will encounter ahead."

Finally we have Wizard Cookie's card: I - The Magician.

In the Upright position, the Magician symbolizes logic, desire, resourcefulness, willpower, intelligence, skill, and manifestation.

"When you get the Magician in your reading, it might mean that it's time to tap into your full potential without hesitation. As a master manifestor, The Magician brings you the tools, resources and energy you need to make your dreams come true. Now is the perfect time to move forward on an idea that you recently conceived. So what do these 3 cards mean together? Well, we have someone who is stagnating, who is stuck and unable to move forward. But they go through a rebirth - an epiphany - and start on the path of a new journey. And on that new path they unlock their full potential.

irving calling helena "kid" right before busting her is so important to me. for him, the MDR innies are basically his children. he's worked at lumon the longest, so his innie is the oldest and that makes him view himself as a guiding parental figure for the younger innies.

"hey kids, what's for dinner?"

those are Irving B.'s kids and he knows his kids. they are all he truly knows. so when one of his kids is switched out for a completely different but identical person, he clocks it instantly. and he wants helena to know that. he wants her to know that MDR are his children, and he knows that she is absolutely not his child.

it takes awhile and a weirdly prophetic dream to determine who she really is, but he knew from the moment he saw her after the uprising that she wasn't his helly. and then when he finally does have helly back, he clings to her and apologizes for hurting her bc he loves her too much to ever hurt her. he loves his kids more than anything else in his limited world.
