a re-read of Friends Like These got me emotional and decided to throw my (somewhat benevolent) rottmnt oc, Charlie, at Timothy for human friend/machine shop TA support.

Timothy is @pinetreevillain ‘s son and was only abducted momentarily for another doodle with heavy duty machinery.

PS: dealing with CNC ghosts is a mechanical engineering right of passage (and so is having a kooky TA that claims to hear the voices in their head). Might do more of Charlie later?

OK CHAT LOCKING IN AND WRITING AS I COME UP WITH STUFF FOR AN OBEY ME THE GOOD PLACE AU BECAUSE OF BRAINROT💔 (the good place spoilers below, obey me spoilers below too but lesser)

So starting with the obvious ones:

Eleanor is MC (both main characters, both the humans who brought peace to the universe or whatever. Also both whores who said that?)

Janet is Barbatos (both op and very smart who live to help and grow closer with the mc slowly)

Ok I actually can’t think of anymore obvious ones. (I’m gonna preface that I’m going based mostly off of personalities and their roles to the story, not their relationships with one another so if I put two brothers as people who end up together this is NOT demoncest I’m not talking about the romance aspect😭)

Going through the main the good place cast, it makes sense that Jason is Mammon (loveable dorks with good hearts but do crime lowkey. They’re literally the same person)

AND THAT WOULD MEAN IN THIS UNIVERSE BARBMON/MACARON IS CANON IG? (Again I’m not focusing on the romance aspect, this is just something just worth saying)

Who would be Tahani? Asmo, maybe? They both like to brag about themselves, they’re both canonically the hottest, both popular and lowkey pretentious… yeah I’d go with that

And chidi is difficult. He’s indecisive, a great lover, a nerd, loves reading, into moral philosophy, so I’m gonna say Simeon is the closest, but I’m not sure if that would fit well just better than others

Michael is hard. Maybe Michael is Michael; both called Michael and mysterious ig, but I think he’d be a better fit for either Solomon or Diavolo. Let me explain:

Solomon and Michael both appear friendly at first while actually having bad intentions. They possess a power unknown to any of their peers and as the series goes on, grow very attached to the main characters. They’re also both different to what they first said they were (Michael claimed to be an angel but was a demon, Solomon didn’t explicitly claim to be normal but he’s certainly more powerful than he appears)

Diavolo and Michael also both appear friendly at first, except diavolo actually is friendly which lowkey ruins it… though I’d say diavolo seems like he has some ulterior motive in the start of the game lowkey, he really doesn’t. Dude just wants peace. Which is similar to Michaels character growth but that feels like a stretch. they’re both in control of the whole thing, and are trying to introduce a new idea to the afterlife despite backlash.

I’d say Solomon fits better though (in either case, this would result in Solomon/diavolo being kind of a father figure to Barb at some point, which is funny to think about)

Ok now non-main characters

Vicky is Satan, which would mean it would be funny to have lucifer be Michael, but lucifer just isn’t as good of a fit for Michael as Solomon is, sadly. Satan and Vicky both feel like they have a point to prove to people underestimating them and they’re both quite smart and value their knowledge and likeability.

Mindy st Claire pisses me off (not the character, thinking about who would be her) BECAUSE Solomon is definitely best fit for her (humans who are their own league of morality, kind of anti-social/lonely though that’s because of isolation, relaxed) BUT he’s better fit for Michael. Soooo we will return to her LMAO (rn considering Levi???)

Simeon would also be good for her (Humans who I imagine wouldn’t be allowed into the good/bad place since he’s kinda yk just fell from there…) but he’s much better as chidi

Glenn would fit as mammon but mammon is so Jason-coded it’s unreal

What other characters even exist uhhhh ummm uhhh

Lucifer/camilla is much more accomplished and respected, which makes satan/tahani resent her/him. Tahani and satan are both well read and self respecting as well.

Stretch) and focus on the fact he was incredibly stupid but Asmo/mindy reset him so much he got very smart (I think by the end of the series he was like… a god? Help)

I think Solomon would fit actually but he’s better as Michael and I don’t like the idea of Solomon being Barbatos’ rebound for mammon because mammon started sleeping with satan. I hate that sentence, actually. Especially that last part. What am I doing with my life

Anyway I think we should come back to Derek (considering Mephisto I will explain later if I stick with that)

They have similar vibes when she’s not drinking milkshake and being all woo-ey because of the immortality thing but that still doesn’t feel right.

Cesare, and the underworld by extension, believes Steve caused the Kellwasser event, a global extinction event, on purpose, and the set up a sytem of Watchers to monitor the planet for other trickster entities so no similar event ever happens again. They've been monitoring Steve under the Earth ever since (hence the line from DOWN "Chaos Gods Rise From The Deep", they believe Steve is a god of chaotic destruction), and make him Cesare's #1 priority when they sense that he's heading back up to the Earth's surface. Cesare genuinely believes Steve is an evil entity bent on wiping out life on the planet for a second time, which is why he doesn't pull his punches when trying to catch him. However, Cesare begins to doubt what he's held as truth for a thousand years when Steve shows a lack of knowledge/understanding of the fact that he's been under the ground for millions of years (if Steve was unconscious all that time, it could have seemed like only a moment that he was down there) and also calling into question whether or not Steve even remembers/intentionally caused the extinction event in the first place. If this is the case we'll just have to wait and see how Cesare reacts to finding out that he's been "living" a lie for the past thousand years. Him saying "Did you not know?" in response to Steve's confusion while in his jail cell makes me think he may possibly have a change of heart. I doubt the Underworld will take Steve's word at face value, obviously, but Cesare seemed convinced, or at least willing to be convinced, for a moment there.

This is a central feature of right-wing ideology and absolutely critical to understand.

Conservativism consists of exactly one principle, to whit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

Conservatives believe hierarchy is fundamental to humanity (and sometimes fundamental to the universe).

While you may think they imagine themselves at the top of this hierarchy, that’s not so. They just always imagine someone else guaranteed to be below them. They can accept that someone will be above them but the bargain of self-injuring collaboration is to be granted absolute power over some other even more despised group.

“Psychological wages.” This is why equality is anathema to conservatives. They cannot imagine it, only an inverted system of oppression where they lose power.

If they accept slavery, it’s b/c someone must inevitably be fettered and tortured, but in a good system, it’s someone who deserves it. So if a slaver can’t hold the whip or put someone in chains, they assume they’ll be enslaved—which is unnatural & unfair b/c they don’t deserve it. Literally, slavers responded to abolitionism in history this way but also right now (just ask people about ending prison slavery) So think about that in terms of queer life.

At present, cis-heteronormativity and patriarchy are intensely indoctrinated into children and violently enforced to maintain the current hierarchy. A huge amount of energy shapes children from birth and keeps them in line. If society rejects that hierarchical oppression, the right wing does not believe that no one will be indoctrinated or coerced. They believe indoctrination and violence will be queer instead, and that’s unnatural and unfair (unlike the status quo they call natural and fair). Therefore, conservatives will try to stop this “grooming” where children think of themselves as people with agency, bodily autonomy, and a full sense of self—b/c they say that’s perverse

There’s no “gotcha” here. The logic is consistent. Conservatives just think we’re subhuman. Conservatives used to openly claim nobles and royals had better blood, and openly claim certain people were subhuman by race, gender, disability, etc.

That has never gone away, it only got quieter (for a while). If you think it’s an oversight by conservatives that black letter law makes it so cisheterosexual as well as queer relationships can’t be acknowledged, you fundamentally misunderstand the point of power and believe law exists like magic spells rather than expression of that power.
