A little touch of Miles in the night
Do you think about this Michael Sheen post as often as I do?
Tumblr media
Cause...you can see what he meant here, right? Comparing Aziraphale (especially this Aziraphale, with this boa) to Miles Maitland. Comparing two Sheens with twenty years between them.
Tumblr media
And it's not just a boa. They are so...them. Gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide. Dramatic. Flamboyant. You can see this similarity in their energy in these particular moments.
And yet...is it all? Or there is something else?
Spoilers for "Bright Young Things" under the cut. tw:homophobia, just in case.
You remember what happened to Miles in the end of his storyline? To sweet, frivolous, charming Miles?
Tumblr media
The police got Miles' letters to his ex-lover. It was 1930s, and one piece of paper with love confessions inside could lead you to prison. So he had to leave for France to avoid arrest, without even really packing his things. And it's happened just before WW2, so his further fate in soon-to-be occupied France was...unclear, let's say that.
And you know what's happening to our angel here?
Tumblr media
He's so silly and happy. He's spending the night with a demon he just recently realized to be madly in love with. Crowley trusts him - as he showed in another round of their peculiar roleplay. He was able to be a terrible magician for one evening. This is a perfect evening, right? He's happy and is ready to share this happiness with the whole world.
There is knock in the door. In this second Aziraphale is beaming and shouts "Enter!".
The next second the door will be opened. Hell is gonna come into the dressing room. Hell that has evidence of an impossible, criminal connection. Hell, ready to trample not only over this second joy, not just this evening - but all past and possible future evenings too. Ready to destroy all of Crowley, and with him, all of Aziraphale.
All thanks to one piece of paper.
Tumblr media
……. It was good that Aziraphale knew that trick with the photograph, wasn't it? After all, he and Crowley have nowhere to run to within the confines of Earth - the jurisdiction of Heaven and Hell is somewhat wider than that of an English court.

Bildad the Shuhite has a different profession in every language!
We all know that in the original he’s a professional midwife/cobbler. But this joke relies entirely on the similarity between the words “Shuhite”/“Shua” and “shoe” which requires adaptation to make sense in other languages.
So why don’t we check some of the many professions Crowley has had as Bildad the Shuhite during 2500 B.C.?
- Bildad the Builder (source: me)
In Brazilian Portuguese he builds suites for the people of Shua.
Shuhite -> Suíta -> Suíte (suite)
- Bildad the Chess Player (source: @gastrointestinalmucosa)
In Swedish he’s a famous chess player.
Shua -> Schuack -> Schack (chess)
- Bildad the Juice Maker (source: @venomousaffection)
In Italian he makes juices.
Shuhite -> Suchita -> Succhi (juices)
- Bildad the Agronomist (source: @lame-wizard and @malin-la)
In French he grows cabbages.
Shuhite -> Chou (cabbage)
- Bildad the Shroud Maker (source: Good-Owen and YorunoHotaru from Reddit)
In Russian he sews shrouds.
Shua -> Savan (shroud)
Also, @adoroborosgoth pointed out that he is just like Barbie (He can be anything lol). So I just had to do it. Pick your favorite Barbieldad!

ma meilleure ennemie translation
i'm sure this has been done, and also this is only my second year learning french. however, i think sometimes things are better understood by amateurs (which btw is a french word that is opposite of expert, not in the sense that one is really good and one is really bad at what they do, but actually that experts do what they do because they are good at it, and amateurs do the thing because they actually love it despite their skill level :3), because when you're too good at something such as a language, you can't explain it as well.* on the flip side, i may simply get things insanely incorrect. and for that i apologize. i hope not though because my french final is in t-2 days!
final note: i am new to tumblr so idk how to format things nice and fancily. :(
anyway. here i go.
Original: Je t'aime, je te hais, je t'aime, je te hais x4 Translation: I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you x4
Original: T'es la meilleure chose qui m'est arrivée | Mais aussi la pire chose qui m'est arrivée Translation: You are the best thing that's happened to me | But also the worst thing that's happened to me Analysis: Arriver means to arrive or to happen. This line can also mean "you are the best/worst thing that has come to me." Arriver is conjugated in the feminine, in reference to Powder.
Original: Ce jour où je t'ai rencontrée, j'aurais peut-être préféré | Que ce jour soit jamais arrivé (arrivé) Translation: The day that I met you, I would've maybe preferred | That this day had never come
Original: La pire des benédictions | La plus belle des malédictions Translation: The worst of blessings | The most beautiful of curses Translation 2: The worst blessing | The most beautiful curse
Original: De toi, j'devrais m'éloigner Translation: From you, I should move away
Original: Mais comme dit le dicton | "Plutôt qu'être seul, mieux vaut être mal accompangé" Translation: But as said by the saying | "Instead of being alone, it is better to be poorly accompanied" Analysis: The former was a "direct translation." It sounds better in English when, in addition to using the English version of the adage, "But as the saying goes, it is better to be in poor company than alone." This is the direct opposite of the real saying of "It is better to be alone than in poor company."
Original: Tu sais c'qu'on dit | "Soit près d'tes amis les plus chers" Translation: You know what they say | "Be close to your dearest friends"
Original: Mais aussi | "Encore plus près d'tes adversaires" Translation: But also | "Even closer to your adversaries" Translation 2: But also | "Still [be] closer to your adversaries" Analysis: An elongation of "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer." Google Translate will give you the word "opponents" as the translation of adversaires as if adversaries isn't an English word. I am including this as a note because maybe people don't know what that word is? Similarly, benedictions is the English word for benédictions but I didn't know that so. Just in case.
Original: Mais ma meilleure ennemie, c'est toi | Fuis-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi Translation: But my best enemy, it's you | Run away from me, the worst, it's you and me Translation 2: But my best enemy is you | Run away from me, the worst is you and me Analysis: Fuir is a verb meaning to escape or avoid, and it is conjugated in the imperative, which is the tense used to give commands. Ekko is telling her to run, to avoid him, to escape from him. Or perhaps he is telling himself, in the end.
Original: Mais si tu cherches encore ma voix | Oublie-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi Translation: But if you're still searching for my voice | Forget me, the worst i(t')s you and me
Original: Pourquoi ton prénom me blesse | Quand il se cache juste là dans l'espace? Translation: Why does your name hurt me | When it's hiding right there in space? Analysis: I think this might be a funny play on words for English speakers. Blesser is the French verb for to injure, but based on the false cognate in English, one may assume its meaning to be positive. Further, the direct translation doesn't seem to mean a lot. I believe the second part is meant to express the same sentiments as the saying "hiding in plain sight." Still, I have no idea what that means in context of the song or the show?
Original: C'est quelle émotion, ta haine | Ou de la douceur | Quand j'entends ton prénom Translation: What an emotion! Your hatred | Or __ | When I hear your name Translation: Which is this emotion? Your hatred | Or __ | When I hear your name Analysis: My undereducation is showing here. La douceur refers to the sweetness of candy, and I'm unsure if this sweetness applies to the personality or if this would imply that a person actually tastes sweet (French can be weird like that). In essence, la douceur can mean sweetness, softness, and gentleness. All work in English.
Original: Je t'avais dit "ne regarde pas en arrière" | Le passé qui te suit, te fait la guerre Translation: I had told you "Don't look back" | The past that follows you makes war on you Analysis: I'm curious about these lyrics. The first part is in plus-que-parfait, a tense that many English speakers don't use. It implies something that was said further in the past than the past being referenced. Sometime in the distant past, Powder had told Ekko to not look back. (I may be wrong with this next part.) Also, the use of the word en preceding arrière implies a certain amount of time being referenced. En is a word that is used to replace amounts; in English, it would be similar to "of it" or "of them" ("Do you have any brothers?" "Yeah, I have 2 of them." would be “As-tu des frères?” “Oui, j’en ai deux.”). This lyric could mean "don't look back" on a certain part of their life, or "don't look back on it." For the second part, I presume the meaning to be like a "the past will haunt you if you don't let it go" sort of deal.
And the rest repeats!!! Hope this was meaningful or something and def feel free to correct me. Go jayvik nation :P
*i'm like nerding out here. but for example, take explaining 1+1 to a five year old. you're like "1+1 equals 2" and the kiddo is like "why?" and ur like "wdym why it just is." it is harder to explain the more of an expert you are!

"Ma meilleure ennemie" by Stromae & Pomme - translation
how everyone's yeah me too. here's the lyrics (+ english translation) to that beautiful song playing in ep 7 :)
"Ma meilleure ennemie" ("My best enemy" note: this is in the feminine form, so implying a female You for all of Stromae's part)
Je t’aime je t’attends
(I love you, I await you) -> loops, sound crackling/electronic
[STROMAE]
T'es la meilleure chose qui m'est arrivée
(You're the best thing that happened to me)
Mais aussi la pire chose qui m'est arrivée
(But also the worse thing that happened to me)
Le jour où je t'ai rencontrée j'aurais peut-être préféré
(The day I met you I maybe would have preferred that)
Que ce jour ne soit jamais arrivé (arrivé)
(That day had never happened (happened))
La pire des bénédictions
(The worst of blessings)
La plus belle des malédictions
(The most beautiful of curses)
De toi je devrais m'éloigner
(From you I should distance myself)
Mais comme dit le diction
(But as the saying goes)
« Plutôt qu’être seul mieux vaut être mal accompagné »
(“Instead of being alone, better be in bad company”) -> note: the usual saying is "Mieux vaut être seul qu'être mal accompagné" (= "Better be alone than in bad company"))
[BOTH]
Tu sais ce qu’on dit
(You know what they say)
[STROMAE]
« Soit près de tes amis les plus chers »
("Be close to your dearest friends”)
[BOTH]
Mais aussi
(But also)
[POMME]
« Encore plus près de tes adversaires »
("Closer still to your opponents”)
REFRAIN
Je t’aime je t’attends
(I love you, I await you) -> in the background, sound crackling/electronic, grows in intensity during the refrain. I'd say the "I love you" part is the most clear
[STROMAE]
Mais ma meilleure ennemie c’est toi
(But my worst enemy it’s you)
Fuis-moi
(Run from me)
Le pire c’est toi et moi
(The worst is you and me)
[POMME]
Mais si tu cherches encore ma voix
(But if you still search for my voice)
Oublie-moi
(Forget me)
Le pire c’est toi et moi
(The worst is you and me)
Pourquoi ton prénom me blesse
(Why does your name hurt me)
Quand il se cache
(When it hides)
Juste là dans l’espace ?
(Right here in the space)
C’est quelle émotion... la haine
(What feeling is this, hatred)
Ou la douceur quand j’entends ton prénom ?
(Or sweetness/softness when I hear your name?)
Je t’avais dit
(I had told you)
« Ne regarde pas en arrière »
("Don’t look back")
Le passé qui te suit te fait la guerre
(The past that’s following you is waging war on you)
REFRAIN
[BOTH]
Mais ma meilleure ennemie c’est toi
(But my best enemy it’s you)
Fuis-moi
(Run from me)
Le pire c’est toi et moi
(The worst it’s you and me)
Mais ma meilleure ennemie c’est toi
(But my best enemy it’s you)
Fuis-moi
(Run from me)
Le pire c’est toi et moi
(The worst it’s you and me)
Je t’aime je t’attends
(I love you, I await you) -> loops until the abrupt end of the song, sound crackling as Pomme vocalises

Just another appreciation post for the Arcane creators, like that fight scene between Jinx/Vi and Cait/Sevika. The symbolism, the movement of the characters.
Cait noticing her rifle going haywire and sending those glitches to Sevika (also pinning her to the ground, like ma'am Sevika ain't the only one enjoying the fight)
Vi and Jinx doing more damage around them than to each other, how it looks more like siblings fighting more than actual killing half the time.
The sound scape and colors, just everything. It's beautiful.
