literally took my dumbass until today to realize that the s1 finale is a direct parallel to “the dalek” in that the doctor ‘loses’ rose and decides to betray his usual code because “I lost her once. I can’t do it again” only for him to think in the finale that she’s really gone (cut to the pile of ashes he falls dramatically onto and holds in his hands) and THAT’S why he sends her off in the TARDIS, that’s why he has that look on his face. he can’t bear the thought of losing her, he knows he’s going to die. but he sends her back, not just because he loves her (duh, she’s the ‘woman he loves,’) but because he lost her once that day. and he’s not doing it again.

tfw you shoot your boss but he comes back to life so you organise an impromptu mutiny against your him which leads to you accidentally bringing about the literal biblical apocalypse which is only stopped by your immortal boss dying for good this time but psych he actually comes back to life AGAIN and then immediately runs away whilst you’re on a coffee run and you don’t hear from him until a few months later when he’s suddenly a wanted terrorist on the news with his toxic ex and some random junior doctor

EWAN MITCHELL TALKING ABOUT MATT SMITH:
He used to watch Doctor Who with his grandmother.
Idolising Smith-as-the-Doctor turned out to be very useful for playing Aemond, who idolises Smith-as-Daemon.
It is, admittedly, a complicated relationship: Aemond imitates, reveres and despises his uncle.
“I thought there was something interesting in never taking Matt off that podium.”
“I just kept him there, from where I saw him as a kid.”
He found it so interesting, in fact, that he spoke to showrunner Condal and proposed avoiding Smith on set so that the they would only ever interact in character. Smith was up for it.
There is a resemblance between the actors, something noted by his grandmother then and by me now.
ABOUT THE SCENE FROM EPISODE 8 SEASON 1:
“That was the first time I’d looked at Matt or Daemon for longer than three of four seconds.”
“It was lightning in a bottle.”
“We have these two sides of the family, so I don’t really see him.”
“There’s a romance to it in a weird way.”
