Sú talún, meaning strawberry, derives from

Sú comes from Old Irish súg (sap; juice) or from Old Irish suib (berry)  Talún is the genitive form of talamh (earth;  ground). 

The genitive is used here because it is an adjective showing possession or relation—”sap of the earth”

Compare sú craobh (raspberry): “sap of the (tree) branch”

In Scottish Gaelic, sùbh-làir is used:

Sùbh comes from Old Irish suib (berry).  Làir refers also to “earth; ground” 

It is related to Irish lár, meaning “floor” and mainly referring to an interior floor. 

Sú/Sùbh further derive from Proto-Celtic *subi (berry) from Proto-Indo-European *sewH- (“to squeeze out”). Welsh syfi (strawberry) descends from Proto-Celtic *subi. 

I found these two entries in the Etymological Dictionary of Proto-Celtic (Matasović, 2009) to be of interest:

In essence it implies that Proto-Celtic *subi could be a loanword from an unknown origin, through contact with another language; but also points out that the Old Irish suib looks to be Celtic in origin. 

We also can’t ignore the entry for *sutu, which appears undoubtedly related.

This cottagecore forest town is absolutely STUNNING. A lot of effort must have been put into this terraforming, and into creating all the winding paths throughout the island! I had a lot of fun hopping through the cliffs, trying to find the next hidden secret. I’m not sure if this description is really doing it justice honestly, just go visit it! It’s just so intricately designed, and so much fun to experience and explore. TOP. TIER. ISLAND.

i was struck with the memory of how much personality sú talún has, particularly when it comes to music. my little musician.

i put him on my bed. wrapped him in soft blankets and started playing music on my phone. over the course of a few seconds, something returned to his eyes. some life and energy came back to view. he started trying to walk around and explore, make his way to the sound, but he couldn't, he's so weak now.

the tumor is pressing real hard on his stomach. he hasn't eaten on his own for almost a week, i hand feed him a meat slurry as much as i can but he doesn't particularly enjoy it starting off and a few bites in he reacts as if any fullness/food actively hurts his stomach. he detests the taste of his meds.

his bones are so prominent. i'm so afraid i'll crush him when I hold him. afraid it hurts to have your insides so close to physical contact. my boy's just bones now. my boy's just bones.

it's not fair. he's two years old.

remus and romulus were rescues, lived to seven and nine respectively. ferrets can live longer, but that's the unfortunate average for most ferrets. we were so proud because they lived that long and healthy after being rescues.

it's not fair that sú talún spent his life with us and we were so careful with what he ate and imprinted on and stimulus and he's so young. it's not fair that we buried rom just a little over three months ago. it's not fair that this is happening so soon after rom. we buried rom just a little over three months ago. we're going through this again and we're doing it with our once youngest pet. it's not fair. it's not fair that he's never going to fully enjoy his christmas presents. not fair he's only had two christmases. two ren faires, two birthdays. we had so much more to give him, he gave us so much.

the meds are helping, i can tell, but he's still in so much visible pain and i feel like my feeding him is just prolonging starvation.

i want to not hurt. want him to not hurt. want to take away his pain and literally go back a month ago when he seemed fine and could eat and explore and play all on his own.

i'm already missing him and i'm not ready to miss him.
