Idk how intentional this is but the b99 finale feels like such a subversion of classic sitcom finale tropes. The entire coma scene was a parody of Himym and Will & Grace and comedies that flashforward in the future only to get weirdly sad and dramatic. Amy wearing fake grey streaks in her hair to show aging is a classic flashforward staple. Rosa fake running to Adrian in the airport is definitely a parody of Friends. Jake choosing to step down instead of magically getting the perfect job ever seems like a reference to The Office and P&R. The multiple Bruce Willis jokes referencing getting mega big stars in finales even when it doesn’t make sense. The AirPods thing seems to be a thinly veiled joke about corporate product placement, like how characters from shows who are meant to be poor always have the latest iPhones. The fact that a lot of shows split up their gangs but b99 firmly said nope all of these characters are gonna be in each other’s lives forever. And the thing is none of these things even feel cyclical or mean-spirited because it makes perfect sense in the context of the heist and these specific characters. And there were other moments when they did definitely lean into sentimental sitcom tropes when it made sense for the show. Idk maybe a lot of this is a reach but it’s something interesting I noticed.

NO BUT YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! there was so much subversion of classic sitcom tropes and especially sitcom finale tropes and it really kept us on our toes but also fit perfectly into b99’s vibes!!!

my predictions for the b99 finale:

above all if the rest of the season is any indication it will be fucking beautiful and filled with fan service

starting w the gimmes: coolcoolcool, noice, title of your sex tape, smort, terry loves stuff etc.

i'm expecting at least one significant time jump (like at least a year) and probably a bunch of "flashbacks" to things that we didn't see

amy and holt's program is a huge success and there's even some indication of it going beyond the NYPD.

it will not be nuanced enough for some people (because this is an 8 season show tying up in like 40 minutes) and there will be awful internet discourse about it

if there's a huuuuge time skip amy will eventually lead the nypd/whatever it becomes

jake's arc has a few options and right now i think from most to least likely it's 1) substantially scaling down amt of police work/joining rosa 2) being a Good Cop or whatever and having a significant mentoring role 3) stay at home dad

assuming the NYPD isn't full on taken down, terry will take over the 99

gina back?? idk what to expect here but if she is (legit forgot if it was confirmed or not) then just like jokes abt her being an influencer now. but it's okay and i love her

mac will be referenced a ton and i would simply implode if he's actually there/baby #2 exists (but if not we all know @peralta-guaranteed 's maya headcanons are canon)

in terms of other squad kids,,, i think that they probably won't be referenced at all and def not there but from most to least likely it's nikolaj, cagney/lacey, ava, and iggy (and then i guess hitchcock/scullys kids are last but canon was never consistent with that)

B99’s finale was perfect! I’ve been a fan of the show for years and it def exceeded my expectations. It left me wondering though, does Jake choosing to be a stay at home dad while Amy works, mean they won’t have more kids? 1. What is your favourite television show from the 80′s? hmmm idk.. I watched episodes of The A-Team and Knightrider and The Dukes of Hazard when they were airing reruns of those shows in the 90s (so when I was a child) and I enjoyed them, but I haven’t actually rewatched those shows very recently (only the say uncle affair from the a-team).. I’m watching star trek tng with my mom atm, which started in the late 80′s, but since the later seasons were aired in the 90′s idk if it counts as an “80′s show”.. also this is my first time watching it, and so far I still prefer TOS myself.. so idk if I could actually pick one of these shows as my “favourite”.. I’m more into 60′s shows and things from 90′s/2000′s
