"Have fun with Logan?" you startle as a familiar voice comes from the darkness. You regrip your keys opening the front door. "It was just a driving lesson. Don't get jealous. " you smirk and Mona scowls. "Im not jealous!" she protests. You grin over your shoulder. "No?" you turn to face her and she takes a s tep closer. "If you say so." you smile and open your front door. "Coming or what?" you call out. Cautiously she follows you inside standing rigid and looking around.

"Hes at work." you comment and she relaxes a little. She sits on a chair in the kitchen crossing her legs. Your eyes follow the movement tracing her legs up to her skirt. She smirks and you blush looking away quickly. "Want something?" you call out while rummaging through the refrigerator. She doesn't respond only makes a humming sound and you spin to see her looking through your dads files. "Seems like hes onto something. " Mona mumbles and starts taking pictures of the files. You wander over "He figured out a job you're working on?" you inquire. "Nope. But look at some of these cars. We might want to think about it." she smirks . "Monaaa.." you scold. She shrugs and turns more pages. "Terrible picture of me." she grimaces then grins broadly. You come over to peer over her shoulder. "Traffic cams could never do you justice." she turns looking at you, your faces mere inches apart. Without warning she quickly closes the distance kissing you softly. You freeze but soon start moving your lips against hers. She stands slowly wrapping her arms around your waist and you wrap your arms around her neck. She kisses you softly again running her hands under her jacket you're still wearing. "I thought you said we couldn't." you breathe out. "Changed my mind." she responds softly studying your eyes and you shiver. Her hands make small circles on your back and you bite your lip. Then a pair of headlights glint off the window. "Shit! My dad!!" Her eyes widen and she springs back from you. "Back door?" she asks. You point, she gives your nose a peck before slipping out just as your dad turns the handle to the front door. "Hey sweetheart. " your dad greets smiling tiredly at you. "Hey dad!" you smile brightly at him while trying to smooth your hair and sweatshirt. He studies you closely. "Everything alright?" he questions. "Totally." you grin. "Just getting ready for bed!" "I see.. Well goodnight then." he responds before trudging up the stairs. You sigh in relief, taking a quick picture of Mona's traffic cam picture and rush up to bed.

“I can't tell you all my secrets.” Mona remarks with a smirk.

“Looks like police files to me.” Colt remarks and crosses his arms.

“What's that supposed to mean?” Logan asks.

“Hey guys.” you call out. “What are we lookin at?” you make your way over seeing the pictures.

“You..printed them?” you ask incredulously.

Colt smirks but says nothing.

“You gave them to her?” Logan blinks.

“Gave is such a funny word..” you smile and eye Mona who rolls her eyes but smirks at you.

“I need to go throw up now.” Colt remarks before walking away. Ximena studies you both silently before grabbing the papers.

“I'll let the boss know.” Logan comments weakly before leaving.

You smile at Mona wrapping your arms around her waist. “Hi.”

She smirks “Hey. You mad?”

“Nah.” you respond with a shrug. “I think Colt is though.” you laugh and she rolls her eyes.

So, this film -being touted as their send off- came with enormous expectations and hype. I am happy to say that this films succeeds in nearly every way possible and, as such, gives the feeling of bitter sweet completion to my generation of X-Films.  

               Logan stars Hugh Jackman as the titular character, Logan, who used to be a member of the X-Men named Wolverine. In the future, Mutants have been slowly going extinct and Logan, now retired from the superhero life, works as a limo driver to take care of an ill Professor Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart. When a mysterious mutant girl named Laura -played by newcomer Dafne Keen- shows up in his life chased by a mercenary group called “The Reavers”, Logan, Professor Xavier, and Laura must make their way towards Canada is find asylum.

               This film takes many inspirations from the “Old Man Logan” storyline and X-23’s introduction from Marvel comics. While not a one to one recreated of these arcs, the movie nonetheless feels like a worthy adaptation of the material. Hugh Jackman plays Logan with a sense of quiet rage and a world weary sense of justice. He’s still a hero, but he is clearly being portrayed as someone who is just tired of seeing people he cares for hurt. While Jackman can still invoke the rage that brought him so much acclaim as the character, he’s much more subdued with his performance, choosing to show that emotional side only when necessary. This sense of control gives the character of Logan a sense of purpose to actions while showing the cracks of his age. Hugh Jackman’s performance is at an all-time high and he shows the impressive capability of switching between aged introspection and raging berserker at the drop of a hat. He has since perfected his craft as Wolverine and this movie allows him to do something new with it, giving us a nuanced and hypnotic performance.

               Patrick Stewart similarly plays a weakened, but not less wise, Professor Xavier. Early in the film you see him bed stricken and rambling to himself due to his developing Alzheimer and degenerating body. By this time in the franchise’s continuity Xavier is pushing his mid-nineties and it shows. However, his mind is as compassionate as ever and his portrayal as a father figure to Logan underscores the development the two characters have had over the years. Logan was once taken in by Xavier and cared for like he was his family. Now it is Logan’s turn to do the same for the only person who has been a constant source of compassion in his life. Patrick Stewart is brilliant and emotional in this role. It’s a side of Xavier that we have never seen before; the vulnerable man behind the mutant leader. While I don’t want to spoil it, he has a monologue about half way through the film that had the audience I saw it with sniffling. He deserves an award of some kind. The depth of his character’s compassion and regret over his actions is palpable and Patrick Stewart is brilliant enough to make the whole audience feel it. We also see a much snarkier side to him than in previous films. Stewart and Jackman have an amazing chemistry together, working off each other to maximize the potential of each scene.

               Rounding off the cast is Laura -X-23- played by the brilliant Dafne Keen. Laura is a fascinating character as her growth throughout the film mirror’s Logan’s own growth from the previous X-movies. She starts off silent, relying solely on growls, body language, and facial expressions to communicate. Now because she cannot talk, but because she does not trust. As she begins to feel more comfortable, connecting with Logan and Xavier, she begins to show more emotion, and subsequently, more depth than Logan was capable of during his early years. She is just as brutal as Logan when he combat scenes come up but she is portrayed as more calculating and precise as opposed to Logan’s feral rage. I can only say that I sincerely want this character back in any future X-movies that need a Wolverine character. She is a worthy successor to the name. Dafne Keen is an actress to look out for. He ability to convey conversation and raw emotion only through body language and facial expressions is amazing. One of her glares easily matches with any that Hugh Jackman can throw at her. The guarded curiosity with which she portrays Laura is fascinating and the high-octane action that she participates in is beautiful. Not only is she great at the quiet, introspective scenes, but Keen manages to portray sorrow and anger convincingly. She gets the other tear jerking scene the movie has to offer, especially if you’ve been following Jackman’s career as Wolverine.

               James Mangold knows how to direct a Wolverine movie. He did so with 2013’s “The Wolverine”. While that movie was a bit lackluster due to studio interference, this time Fox has allowed Mangold to do exactly as he wants and boy does it pay off. The camera work is strong with shots well placed and camera movement never distracting. This allows the camera to easily follow the action without any type of shakey-cam interference. Many of the poignant shots in the film are utilized to underscore Logan’s feeling of isolation while he attempts to interact with the small family he has managed to amass over the years. The film earns the R rating by not only being bloody and littered with foul language, but being purposefully bloody and littered with foul language. The characters react like a real person would react in their situations. The cursing feels organic and the action feels weighted by emotional circumstances and real world physics. While the other X-movies take a more sensationalist stance when it comes to the action, this move is visceral and realistic. Honestly, the cinematography feels like something I would see in Mad Max or a western. That makes sense however, as this film purposefully draws plenty of parallels to older westerns with its emphasis on the tragic hero.

               In summation, Logan achieves much what the darker DC movies want to accomplish, but lack. It’s dark. It’s brutal. It’s poignant. It’s fun. And it brings something new to the genre. This movie exists as a western genre film disguised as a superhero movie. It is, in my mind, the best X-Men movie so far. The characters are powerful and nuanced, the story is compelling and tightly told, the action is break neck and entertaining, the tone of the music is somber and appropriate, and the visuals are a treat. I actual struggle to find much with this movie I dislike. The third act does slow down a bit and become much more like the other X-Men movies, but I personally didn’t have much of a problem with this. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are at their best. Dafne Keen is a rising start to watch. This may be the only superhero movie I’ve gone to which had my theater crying not once, but twice. If I were to make a comparison to a DC movie, as I have above, I would say Logan is Marvel’s answer to “The Dark Knight”. Yes, it is that good.

Score: 9.5/10 – Logan is emotional and nuanced but also uplifting and idealistic. It doesn’t shy away from the past and actively looks forward and this helps it achieve something thoughtful, powerful, and action packed.

Am calculat navigând pe Surplex.com că cu 5000 € îți poți utila un atelier cu scule în stare bună de funcționare. Regret că nu sunt fan-ul mărcilor autohtone, însă prefer un Felder oricărui MUT de Vatra Dornei. Audi-ul meu, din 2001, era de vis comparat cu orice Logan nou nouț.

Mulți veți spune că ce e nou e nou. 2017 NFL mock draft: Free agency fallout

Did we just learn that teams don’t like the incoming rookie quarterbacks?

The 2017 NFL Draft continues to round into shape, and the first week of free agency eliminated key needs for a few teams. The moves made also gives some indication of what the league thinks (or doesn’t think) of this year’s quarterback prospects.

We also now have three teams with two first-round picks following the trade between the Saints and Patriots that sent wide receiver Brandin Cooks to New England.

1. Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

Nothing about what the Browns have done, or will do, in free agency will change this pick. Garrett is the draft’s best player and should start house shopping in Cleveland.

2. San Francisco 49ers: Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State

What the 49ers will do is so hard to gauge. Do they think they can go with Brian Hoyer for at least a year as starting quarterback? If so, that could open them up to taking Hooker. While Jimmie Ward will get a chance to prove himself as a safety this offseason, Hooker can be a transcendent talent at the position. The Ed Reed comparisons are real.

3. Chicago Bears: Jonathan Allen, DE, Alabama

By signing Mike Glennon, the Bears are probably feeling like they don’t need to take a quarterback at No. 3. The same for defensive back since they’ve brought in Prince Amukamara, Marcus Cooper and Quintin Demps. If that is indeed the case, they could target Allen to be the key piece of their defensive line.

4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

The Jaguars made two big splashes by signing cornerback A.J. Bouye and defensive lineman Calais Campbell. Now they can look for a difference maker on offense like Fournette. He can take the burden off quarterback Blake Bortles, who probably isn’t as bad as last season suggested.

5. Tennessee Titans (via Los Angeles Rams): Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State

Although the Titans signed Logan Ryan to a three-year deal, that shouldn’t stop Tennessee from bringing in Lattimore. Ryan isn’t the type of No. 1 cornerback that Lattimore can be, but the combination of the two could help finally fix the team’s woeful pass defense.

6. New York Jets: Jamal Adams, S, LSU

If their interest in Tony Jefferson is any indication, the Jets want to move on from Calvin Pryor. They could do that with Adams, a very good strong safety who could develop into a Landon Collins-type of player. Hooker and Fournette would be considered if they were available.

7. Los Angeles Chargers: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

The Chargers have the pieces necessary on the line and at linebacker to fit Gus Bradley’s defense. But what they don’t have is the type of big cornerback he prefers. At just over 6’0, Humphrey is a solid fit who plays physical.

8. Carolina Panthers: Solomon Thomas, DE, Stanford

The Panthers were already in need of a defensive end, and that becomes even more evident with the questionable trade of Kony Ealy. Thomas, arguably the hottest prospect in the draft, seems locked into the first 10 picks.

9. Cincinnati Bengals: John Ross, WR, Washington

This is a repeat pick from last week’s mock draft that just makes more sense the more you think about it.

10. Buffalo Bills: Mike Williams, WR, Clemson

By retaining Tyrod Taylor, that should mean the Bills don’t take a quarterback with this pick. Instead, they can take a player like Williams who will be a nice vertical threat for Taylor.

11. New Orleans Saints: Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

This is a question the Saints’ front office might face on draft night: Do you take the third pass rusher or the third cornerback? Because the depth at cornerback is better, my pick is pass rusher. Barnett may not blow you away athletically, but he just gets the job done.

12. Cleveland Browns (via Philadelphia Eagles): Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson

With all the moves in free agency thus far, the biggest losers are the quarterbacks in this year’s draft. They could be in for a slide, and that could benefit a team like the Browns. Watson gets the nod over Mitchell Trubisky because he has more experience and athleticism.

13. Arizona Cardinals: Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina

If the quarterbacks do fall, a team like the Cardinals could start grooming their future franchise signal caller. Trubisky has good skills and would be a good understudy for Carson Palmer.

14. Philadelphia Eagles (via Minnesota Vikings): X

The Eagles brought in veteran wide receivers Torrey Smith and Alshon Jeffery, so that should eliminate that position as the team’s top need. Wilson’s size and ability to play the ball make him a hot commodity.

15. Indianapolis Colts: Takkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA

Even with the signing of Jabaal Sheard, John Simon and Barkevious Mingo, the Colts still need edge talent. That’s what the speedy McKinley can provide.

16. Baltimore Ravens: Haason Reddick, OLB, Temple

The rise of Reddick continues. The versatile linebacker can give the Ravens a player who has experience with his hand down or playing in space.

17. Washington: Reuben Foster, MLB, Alabama

Washington smartly added Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee to the defensive line, so the need for a middle linebacker elevates. Foster can be the leader of Washington’s defense with his range and ability playing from the middle.

18. Tennessee Titans: Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan

Tennessee should be elated if Davis happens to slip this far – and also fear a team leapfrogging them to get him.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

The Buccaneers went into this offseason wanting to get a playmaking wide receiver, and they certainly got that by bringing in DeSean Jackson. They can add another playmaker on offense by drafting a Cook, a do-everything runner who can command snaps early in his career.

20. Denver Broncos: Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin

The Broncos wisely signed offensive linemen Ron Leary and Menelik Watson in the first week of free agency, and they can finish off their offensive line with Ramczyk, the draft’s best left tackle.

21. Detroit Lions: Malik McDowell, DT/DE, Michigan State

Detroit is another team that loaded up on offensive linemen in free agency, and that could open them up to adding a splash player on defense. McDowell is the type of athlete that the defense needs. He can play inside and outside.

22. Miami Dolphins: O.J. Howard, TE, Alabama

Miami has had a sneaky good offseason, trading for Julius Thomas and William Hayes and signing Nate Allen, Anthony Fasano, Ted Larsen, and Lawrence Timmons. Even with Thomas, they could use a player like Howard, who would is a classic lead tight end who can catch and block.

23. New York Giants: David Njoku, TE, Miami

The Giants may have given Rhett Ellison a four-year contract, but he’s not the pass catcher Njoku can be. Saying Njoku can be the next Jeremy Shockey is a little hyperbolic, but he can give the Giants’ offense a dimension it currently does not have.

24. Oakland Raiders: Zach Cunningham, MLB, Vanderbilt

The Raiders would probably prefer if Foster fell into their laps, but Cunningham isn’t a bad consolation prize.

25. Houston Texans: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame

If Kizer happens to slide on draft night, this might be where his fall stops. Kizer has tools that can be molded, but he has to go to a team that can coach him up.

26. Seattle Seahawks: Garrett Bolles, OT, Utah

The Seahawks would do back flips if only one offensive tackle is taken before they pick in the first round. Signing a player like Luke Joeckel shouldn’t stop Seattle from going after Bolles or Ramczyk in the first round.

27. Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

This pick is starting to become rote, and for good reason. The only thing more obvious than Mahomes’ skills are his flaws. But in Kansas City, he’d get time to work on his footwork and learn how to stick in the pocket. He has franchise quarterback talent.

28. Dallas Cowboys: Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan

I know the Cowboys need a pass rusher, but doesn’t Peppers sound like a splashy Jerry Jones pick? In the Dallas defense he would be Barry Church’s replacement, and frankly an upgrade.

29. Green Bay Packers: Forrest Lamp, OL, Western Kentucky

There’s a terrible joke somewhere in here about Forrest Lamp and Forrest Gregg, but you can make it yourself. Lamp would be a smart pickup for the Packers. Instead of shuffling pieces on the roster, Lamp could slot into the right guard spot vacated by T.J. Lang.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers: Carl Lawson, DE/OLB, Auburn

The Steelers would prefer if Reddick stayed in this range, but there would be nothing wrong with going for Lawson. He’s athletic enough to stand up more in the NFL than he did at Auburn, and is the type of pass rusher the team needs.

31. Atlanta Falcons: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama

Robinson’s talent, especially as a run blocker, is too great to let slide out of the first round. In Atlanta he can push for a starting guard spot, and potentially put some pressure on the team’s offensive tackles.

32. New Orleans Saints (via New England Patriots): Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State

With reports out there saying the Saints were trying to acquire Malcolm Butler from the Patriots, that should show how much the team wants a cornerback. Conley had a stellar combine earlier this month and put himself into the first round mix.

My Thoughts On The Story And Characters

Logan is truly an emotional rollercoaster of a film and I enjoyed every single moment I was on the ride. Firstly, it is the realization that this would be the last time we would ever see the fabulous Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (yes, unless he makes an appearance in Deadpool 2) after seeing him portray the character for 17 years! The subsequent reasonings are the film manages to have you chuckling aloud one moment and then finding yourself trying to hold back tears the next. It was a strange experience that genuinely simulated what a coaster feels like… The need to brace yourself for what is coming next and the intense feeling of elation when you overcome that hurdle.

How is this man possible?!

There are many that hold the X-Men near and dear to their hearts and although I have seen the films, I’m not one of those that fawn over the mutants. I thoroughly enjoyed the Fassbender and McAvoy films and it has been literal centuries since I watched the original films from the early 2000s. Having a base understanding of who Wolverine is and the relationship he shares with Stewart’s Charles Xavier will certainly enhance your experience, however you don’t need to know every single thing about this universe in order to enjoy Logan. The acting all around is incredible and the key relationship that consists of Logan, Xavier and Laura/X-23 is easily my favourite aspect of the entire film. We already know the chemistry that exists with Jackman and Stewart because of their years working on the X-Men together and seeing these two heavyweights interact with Laura, who is portrayed absolutely brilliantly by Dafne Keen, will pull every single heart string you have despite the fact that she has never appeared in the franchise.

The integration of the R-rating is executed perfectly. There was no excessive gore or violence that made me think, “well that was unnecessary!” Every stab through the face and layman amputation served its purpose and was actually showcased which made the action sequences essentially flawless. None of those bullshit quick cuts or shaky cam (lookin’ at you, 2016’s Jason Bourne!) that make you want Wolverine to come through the screen and put you out of your misery. Whenever the adamantium claws came out, shit went down and seeing the tag team work was just spectacular! People also swore a ton and I fucking relished in that shit, dude. I am one that truly doesn’t care about profamity so frankly, the more f-bombs Captain Picard says, the better!

‘… I Shed A Tear Or Five Throughout The Watch’

The story is seemingly predictable at times and one or two lapses in logic occur but because it is crafted so wonderfully, these instances don’t really bug you because you want to see what they encounter next. You want it to finish at whatever happy moment occurs because you care so deeply for these guys, I had no idea I would feel as connected to these characters as I did but I shed a tear or five throughout the watch. I enjoyed the secondary characters and thought they served the plot progression well and Holbrook portrayed the long lost villainy Skywalker cousin serviceably, I wondered if I wanted to learn more about his backstory but realized the mystery that surrounds him works better for this film. Although if I had to fault him, I did feel like his character was kind of evil for the sake of being evil. I actually enjoyed Richard E. Grant’s character a bit more and would’ve liked to see him be more of the focal point.

The inclusion of humour was one of the biggest surprises I experienced in Logan. I really didn’t expect to laugh as much as I did but I think it was because of the R-rating that allowed itself to open up and expand its humourous horizons to a more adult audience… The ones that find it hilarious when a frustrated old man tells a little girl to “shut the fuck up” kind of thing, you know? Every character had their own respective humour incorporated into them so when they did or said something funny, it felt natural to the character… We all know a character or two in film who aren’t funny at all but their movie wants you believe they are so they just throw as much shit at the wall as they can to see what works and 9 times out 10, it doesn’t work. Logan‘s humour is incorporated logically and was oh so enjoyable.

How Were The Other Aspects Of ‘Logan’?

Logan isn’t your run-of-the-mill superhero/comic book flick. It is very much a character-driven drama that doesn’t rely on flashy superpowers or bombastic action sequences to tell its story. Quite the contrary, really. Director Mangold, who previously helmed the Academy Award-winning Walk The Line, must have taken cues from his Johnny Cash biopic because it is focused solely on the life of Logan and how the few relationships he has affects his overall being. Seeing him gradually learning how to interact with Laura and how much he genuinely loves Xavier – without having to tell him – it is such a treat to watch a “superhero” film that doesn’t need the explosions or superficial turmoil to create tension.

The way lighting is used is also fantastic; although the film is incredibly sullen during certain instances, the lighting in the frame places emphasis on the character’s face while the dark surrounds them. Logan is a beautiful-looking film and there are definitely a ton of moments I would want to have on my computer as an HD screensaver I can use to stare at while I bawl uncontrollably.
