hi sorry for disappearing ive been hyperfixating on roblox pressure

this game is so bad for me bc i have extreme thalassophobia and (because of the searchlights) just now realized i have megalohydrothalassophobia as well. yet i keep playing bc its a good game and im trying to do exposure therapy so i can eventually watch markipliers movie iron lung without feeling like im going to throw up or pass out. also they just added an accessibility feature for thalassophobia and when you click it you just straight up get kicked out of the game, which is hilarious.

OC update! changing the term "embodiment" to "refraction", moved some things around and now its built so theres a Solari (living star, with a soul...) assigned to any system that harbours life, some of the different planets in said systems have their own "soul" that can be awakened (also lost...), into entities known as "refractions"!

they can make use of the pure life energy emitted by a solari, taking little aspects of it and reshaping it, giving way to different elements :D

literally this :)!

in turn, "guardians" are those blessed by one of the refractions; gaining control of that one element, as well as immunities (<- passed down by bloodline also)

the milky way´s native elements are : water, earth, fire and air! <- still deciding on each one´s planets!

sun was granted by Sol (<- milky way´s star and where "Solari" comes from) to a small group of humans, while moon was a consequence of the end of the Kaleidoscope war :)

You drove everyone crazy by being so indecisive about your outfit, but in the end, your friends all voted for the same one. It was lovely, the colors matched well with your hair, and it was inviting for the warm weather, but you feared it might be too every day? First dates were the hardest, especially with someone you knew so little about, but Yunho always seemed a little more comfortable and elegant whenever you saw him at the bus station.

You checked your phone again as you walked along the crossroad. Yunho wanted to meet you at 11:57 AM near the beach; it was a sweet detail considering how your bus always left at the same time twelve hours later. When you found the tall tree he indicated, you looked around but he was nowhere to be seen.

Should you call him? It was almost time, and you told yourself to wait. He wasn't the kind of guy to ditch someone; you just knew it. Ever since your first conversation a few days ago, Yunho had texted you frequently. The two of you talked about everything and nothing, which you enjoyed. Sometimes, he just asked what you were up to, then he shared how his coffee was a little too sweet or shared about his best friend preparing to move in with his university sweetheart. In exchange, you told him about your work, language school, and other small interests.

At 11:56 AM, a few seconds before the minute would change, he called you, and you answered within the blink of an eye.

“Hi there,” your voice was nervous, but the smile was obvious. Yunho’s voice was soft and sweet, maybe a little shy.

“Turn around,” he asked softly, and you did so without hesitation.

There he stood, bathed in sunlight and shadows cast by the tree, his phone to one ear while the other hand held a gift bag and a few wildflowers he likely picked up on his way. When you looked at him, he was smiling brightly and slowly slipped his phone into his pocket.

You did the same as you stepped closer to him, now wondering if maybe you should have brought a gift as well. A soft blush colored your cheeks as you approached him, Yunho’s eyes politely glancing over you.

He wore jeans and sneakers with an oversized white long-sleeve button-up that was open and complimented his tall figure well, the glasses hanging loosely on it. He was really attractive; it was a little challenging not to just stare.

“You look very pretty today,” he complimented, and before you could say something, he slowly held the flowers and gift bag up to you. “Just a small something,” he mumbled with a shy smile.

You accepted it with a small bow: “Thank you, this is really sweet.” Someone once told you instead of saying that you didn’t need gifts, to simply accept them and show excitement, as the other person put effort in and it was rude to tell them it was a waste of time.

“Can I open it now?” you asked, somewhat shy when Yunho chuckled and stepped to your side, offering to hold the flowers for you.

“Of course, it’s a little silly… Mingi said it would make a good gift, something about bringing good luck.”

You chuckled: “Your best friend, huh? Well, since you said he has been with his big love for years, he does sound like the expert.”

Your fingers carefully pulled something soft outside, and a moment later, you found yourself blinking.

This was the most adorable dog plushie you had ever seen, looking cutely at you with big eyes, and for some reason, it reminded you of Yunho.

“He’s so cute!!” you called out, a little too enthusiastically, and Yunho blushed, rubbing his free hand over the back of his neck.

“You think so? Ah, during my first year of university, we had this really creative guy who had to do a project of making plushies inspired by people, and he made this one of me. I had it for a while but I thought… you said you liked cute things,” he mumbled.

So this was something personal? Now it felt even more special, and you gave the plushie a soft hug before, without thinking, leaning up to press a kiss on Yunho’s cheek. “I love him, he’s the cutest. Thank you.”

Realizing what you just did, you noticed a hint of surprise on his face for a moment, but then his smile widened, and he seemed to relax.

“Glad you think so! I’m happy he gets a good new home. Ah, it’s time, shall we go? I booked a table at the beach restaurant there. They serve fantastic Greek meals.” Yunho offered his hand to you, and after carefully placing the plushie back in the bag, you took it.

Handholding on the first date hadn’t been on your expectation list. Really, you thought maybe you’d get a random cup of coffee, chat a little, and that would be it. Instead, right after you exchanged numbers, Yunho was eager to ask if you just maybe had more time.

Of course you did; this was far from anything you expected after spending weeks of carefully watching Yunho. If anything, this was much more like a fever dream, but you were up for every moment of it.

“You said you really wanted to visit Greece one day, right? You should. I actually managed to go there forever ago during a school trip. We went there for a week; it was a little too … school-focused but I enjoyed it.”

Yunho nodded: “Mhm, I see a lot of photos on social media, and just something about it makes me want to go.”

He gave his name to the waiter, who led the two of you to a table close to the water. The view was pretty, and as this was a more rocky part of the beach, not too many visitors disturbed the view. You both ordered the waiter’s recommendation. It was a little embarrassing, but you had a hard time drawing your gaze from Yunho. He was just such a positive figure, his smile never seemed to fade, and every word was sheer excitement, always sincere.

As the meal was served and the hours went on, the heat started to become a little intense, and Yunho offered to go for a small walk in the shadows.

“Before we go, let me get us some ice cream,” he offered and walked over to a stall, buying two before offering one to you.

While it was hot, neither of you seemed to mind holding hands; it almost felt familiar and far from a first date. You could feel his thumb gently brushing over your hand, and you almost dreaded the end. There was a small bench at the end of the beach before a small hill indicated the street on top.

“This is nice,” you sighed happily, carefully placing the bag on the bench so you could sit a little more comfortably. To your surprise, after a hint of hesitation, Yunho suddenly pulled you onto his lap.

You could see from Yunho’s face that all of this was new to him, but he seemed to try and be bold. The blush on your cheek was consistent now as you mumbled, trying to find words.

“Would it be okay if I kiss you?” he asked shyly, a bit silly after he pulled you so boldly onto his lap.

“I’d like that very much, Yunho.”

Yunho looked at you, brown eyes seemingly admiring your features before finally, his hand rested against your cheek, he leaned in, and your lips met in a shy yet curious kiss. There was no hesitation from your side; you gladly leaned in, your fingers finding their way into his hair.

For a moment, what felt like forever, the two of you kissed until you were out of breath. Yunho seemed truly happy, and you mirrored his smile.

“This was… perfect,” you admitted, and he gently kissed your forehead and pulled you into a hug. For as long as it took you to talk to him, now everything just felt natural and quick.

Yunho hummed happily as you slowly slipped back onto the bench and he curled his arm around your shoulder, allowing your head to rest against his so you could enjoy the view over the ocean.

“It really is.”

The original meaning of the term "Final Girl," from 1987's "Her Body, Himself: Gender in the Slasher Film" by Carol J. Clover, was "a woman who is a sole survivor of a group who are chased by the villain, and who gets the final confrontation with said villain [whether she wins or not is not considered] because of some implied moral superiority." As an example, Jamie Lee Curtis's character of Laurie Strode in 1978's Halloween is the sole survivor of the teenagers that Michael Myers hunts, and gets the climactic scene with him, though she's not the one who defeats him. Her character is the only one of her friend group who does not (onscreen at least) partake in drugs, alcohol or sexual activity.

The term "final girl" has expanded over the years, often losing the moral superiority clause (see: Sidney Prescott in Scream, Maxine in X) or having other survivor(s) so long as the girl gets the final confrontation (the sisters in the recent Scream movies, Dana Polk in Cabin in the Woods). The most common deviation is losing the moral superiority clause, with the characters either being just as moral as their group or even being morally in the wrong but still surviving as a subversion or deconstruction of the trope. With all that being said,

As always, Girl is a gender-neutral term when it comes to having fun. I decided not to count Knuckles because we don't know his full backstory in-game and the word-of-god answer is that his species died of disease, and also because he'd be the funny answer everyone would pick immediately so that doesn't count guys.

Tikal:

Last Survivor: Somewhat. Other echidnas seem to have survived Chaos's attack, but Tikal was the last character alive shown onscreen, and the only other named characters in her time period did not survive.

Final Confrontation: Applies. She is the one to seal Chaos into the Master Emerald.

Moral Superiority: Applies. She's the only one in her tribe willing to stand up to her warmongering dad.

Shadow:

Last Survivor: Applies. While some people seem to have escaped the ARK massacre (like the Commander), all other named characters are either killed or captured and killed afterwards.

Final Confrontation: Debatable. There isn't actually a singular monster attacking the ARK, instead it's the entire military. Shadow however does get a confrontation with the Biolizard and later with Black Doom. Do they count for this though? You decide.

Moral Superiority: Not Applicable. Shadow isn't inherently morally above or below the other people on the ARK who died.

Cosmo:

Last Survivor: Mostly Applies. She is the last survivor specifically of her species. Everyone else in the Sonic Crew survives to the final confrontation, but her species is toast.

Final Confrontation: Applies. Cosmo is the last to interact with Dark Oak in the initial genocide, and the one to eventually defeat him (along with Tails, but really it was Cosmo's sacrifice that actually killed him).

Moral Superiority: Not Applicable. The rest of her species are portrayed as innocent and undeserving of their fate, and her survival was purely due to her fear making her accept a deal with Dark Oak and the implication that he's her father.

Silver:

Last Survivor: Mostly Applies. He and Blaze are the only seen survivors of Iblis's assault. Blaze absorbs Iblis and dips, but Silver does have a fight with Solaris in the final ending.

Final Confrontation: Somewhat. Blaze and Silver both boss fight Iblis, and Blaze gets the final confrontation and defeat. However, Silver partakes in the defeat of Solaris, who technically is Iblis.

Moral Superiority: Not Applicable. Silver isn't given moral superiority towards anyone who dies.

Sonic Forces Avatar:

Last Survivor: Somewhat. Avatar is the last survivor of their village due to them fleeing from Infinite. They join up with a group following this and assist Sonic in defeating Infinite.

Final Confrontation: Somewhat. Sonic is also there.

Moral Superiority: Debatable. Like Cosmo, the other civilians are portrayed as innocent and Avatar only escapes due to their perceived cowardice. They are shown to be Extra Special Besties with Sonic which helps them defeat Infinite through the power of Love, so that may count?

Whisper:

Last Survivor: Mostly Applies. Whisper is the last Diamond Cutter after Mimic kills her entire squad and betrays them. She goes solo until eventually confronting Mimic and then helping found a reformed Diamond Cutters.

Final Confrontation: Debatable. Mimic is still an active threat in the comics, but Whisper did get a climactic confrontation with him in Tangle & Whisper.

Moral Superiority: Not Applicable. Whisper only survived because Claire requested she stay behind due to her intuition.

Sonic in '06 specifically:

Last Survivor: Mostly Applies. Sonic is the only character who remembers that the '06 timeline occurred, making him the technical only survivor of its events. Ignore the fact he died at one point, he got better.

Final Confrontation: Mostly Applies. Sonic leads the attack against Solaris in the Final Boss fight, but Elise is the one to blow out the candle and reset the timeline.

Moral Superiority: Debatable. All the other characters are "heroes" but Sonic is the Biggest Best Hero Of Them All That The Chaos Emeralds Love Soooo Much, and he also is the one to selflessly insist on the timeline reset so that the whole Solaris Destruction Thing never happens.

What does Mephiles want?

So, Mephiles is my favourite Sonic villain and has been for a while now. His vibes are simply off the charts. But his schemes within schemes are generally considered overly convoluted and nonsensical, and while there's an element of the former, the latter is, in my opinion, an unfair angle.

I know Sonic 06's writing is not the best in general, but I genuinely think Mephiles is one of the best-handled parts of it. So I thought I'd break down why I think he does what he does.

1) Why didn't he just fuse with Iblis in the future/immediately kill Elise to free Iblis in the present/do X more logical and straightforward path to his ultimate goal?

I'm getting this one out of the way slightly out of order because this is another of the many examples of "Audience expects characters to be rational, logical actors who never make emotion-driven decisions."

I can sit here and make theories as to why fusing in the future doesn't work, or argue the toss over whether Elise's death is really a means of releasing Iblis, but the simple answer here is that Mephiles is not a logical actor. He is a spiteful, sadistic monster who could do things the quick and clean way... but he's a time-travelling immortal with power enough to equal the Ultimate Life Form, why not have some fun along the way?

It should also be noted that during the events of Sonic 06, Mephiles has existed as an independent entity for ten years. He spent all ten of those years trapped in a vessel roughly the size of a soda can. Your facetious "Hurr durr why doesn't he just cut onions under Elise's eyes" gotcha can be easily countered by asking "At what point in this man's very short and limited existence would he have learned about the ocular effects of chopping onions?"

2) Mephiles and Shadow: Revenge

Well firstly we need to set aside most of what he does in Shadow's story. Yes, really. The only parts of Shadow's story that are actually part of Mephiles' big plan are the following:

Trying to break or corrupt Shadow in the future.

Acquiring a Chaos Emerald so he can use it to summon the others once Iblis is free.

Shadow actually thwarts that last one, but it doesn't matter, because as we see in the Last Episode, he simply goes and gets another one once he realises that the green and yellow ones are out of play for the moment.

See, Mephiles' attempts to mess with Shadow's head have nothing to do with reforming Solaris. They're a separate, more personal agenda. Because Mephiles isn't single-mindedly focusing on reforming Solaris. He's also out for revenge.

Mephiles' interactions with Shadow are often read as him attempting to corrupt Shadow and turn him over to the dark side, but I'm not sure if that really matters all that much to Mephiles, besides as a means to an end. We see Mephiles really manipulating people in Silver's story, after all, and he has a different approach.

While manipulating Silver, Mephiles presents himself as a benevolent ally, who offers a desperate Silver a means of stopping Iblis once and for all.

Once Silver starts to question him, Mephiles is evasive, not giving Silver a straight answer but instead applying time pressure, reminding him that if he fails in his mission, Iblis' rampage will continue unabated, and implying that time is running out before Sonic triggers the end of the world.

But that's not how he approaches Shadow. Instead, upon meeting Shadow for the first time since he was sealed, Mephiles laughs his mouthless head off, shambles around like a zombie, and promises him "a one-way ticket to oblivion."

I don't think he's trying to get Shadow to join him, guys.

And sure, when Shadow confronts Mephiles in Flame Core, he does extend an offer to Shadow, trying to tempt him to turn on humanity for their future betrayal. He positions the idea of Shadow avenging himself on humanity again as a reasonable thing, as justice.

But when Shadow doesn't bite, he doesn't press it. He just shrugs it off, goes into his crystalline form, and proceeds to start trying to kill Shadow. But why try to make this offer at all?

Easy: This is before Shadow saves Sonic from Silver at Radical Train. If Shadow doesn't intervene, because he's either evil or broken, Silver kills Sonic right there while Elise is watching, helpless in the grip of Eggman's hovercraft, and she probably cries and releases Iblis a few days early.

That's why he switches focus to trying to break Shadow's spirit after this point: Any benefit he could've gotten from corrupting Shadow no longer matters.

Revealing more of Shadow's fate in the future, and everything else he does after this point, isn't about trying to turn Shadow to darkness again. It's about hurting him. That's it. He just wants to hurt Shadow, make him feel like his heroics are futile, because all those ungrateful humans will turn on him in the end anyway, even one of his closest friends will betray him, ordered to hunt down, defeat, and seal Shadow in a prison for a crime he didn't commit.

Past their encounter in Flame Core, this isn't remotely part of the Solaris plan any more, it's purely about Mephiles wanting to torment Shadow, it's revenge for what he does in Aquatic Base in the past. Shadow sealed him in the Sceptre of Darkness ten years ago, and the vast majority of their interactions are Mephiles trying to do exactly what he promised after he escaped.

And that desire for revenge rather neatly explains why he goes about targeting Silver and Elise the way he does too.

3) Mephiles and Silver: For Iblis

Despite his monstrousness, there is someone that Mephiles cares about deeply: Iblis. True, that's technically just another part of himself, but they do exist as separate entities for most of the game, and Mephiles refers to Iblis by name and as a separate entity to himself when Iblis is freed.

And this, combined with his vengefulness, neatly explains why he sends Silver after Sonic.

Because Silver fights Iblis every day. Because when he and Iblis were newly-separated and trying to escape from Aquatic Base, Silver hunted Iblis down and captured him, enabling the Duke to seal him (more on that later). Silver was the instrument of Iblis' sealing, and desperately wants to kill Iblis. What would be more ironic (and we know Mephiles has an appreciation for irony, it's literally in his first line in Shadow's story) than using Silver himself to bring about Iblis' liberation?

How does Mephiles know that Silver is responsible? Time travel, of course. Like, he had to learn where Iblis was sealed, and that crying was the key to the seal on him somehow, he almost certainly hopped back to Aquatic Base to see what went down on Silver's side of things.

That Silver is a good (if desperate) person, but Mephiles is trying to manipulate him into killing another hero only adds to the satisfaction Mephiles would get from watching this all play out.

And though Silver fails, and realises the truth, his interference with Sonic's side of the story only helps push Mephiles closer to his goal, and the third aspect of his vengeance.

4) Mephiles, the Duke, and Elise: Sins of the Father

Let's talk about everyone's favourite Sonic character, Princess Elise III.

Elise is Iblis' vessel, and is incredibly emotionally repressed, having somehow not cried since she was about seven years old, despite both of her parents being dead, the pressures of being a monarch, and the general hormone-driven emotional instability of being a teenager.

As the one thing holding Iblis' rampage back, Elise's death in the crashing Egg Carrier at the end of Sonic and Silver's trip through Kingdom Valley is the point where Iblis broke free and ruined everything. Setting aside whether her death caused it or if she shed a single tear before impact. But this isn't enough for Mephiles, apparently, and despite her being Iblis' vessel, he takes very little interest in her throughout the story... or does he?

Mephiles could take Elise's death as a W, hop over to the crash site and fuse with Iblis there. But he doesn't? Why?

Because he specifically wants to break the seal by making her cry.

This is why Silver's failures play into Mephiles' hands anyway. Because by trying to kill Sonic, Silver keeps opening the doors for Elise to get captured again, forcing Sonic to rush to her aid once more, and generally making their time together much more dramatic and emotionally-tense. This almost certainly helps get Elise, uhhhhh... let's just say attached to Sonic, meaning that when, at the beginning of the final act, Mephiles hits Sonic with the ol' "Nothin personnel kid", Elise's overstressed emotional repression finally fails and she breaks down, releasing Iblis.

But why does he want to do this? Why go through all the extra hurdles of piling more pressure on Elise until she snaps, when he could theoretically just kill her and set Iblis free, or literally just be there for her death?

You guessed it, it's revenge again. But not against Elise, against her father, using Elise as a proxy.

I think if there's anyone in the entire universe that Mephiles outright despises, it's this guy.

The Duke of Soleanna was responsible for the original Solaris Project, during which he attempted to control Solaris' power in order to give himself and his people power over time. However, it's heavily implied that the experiments weren't exactly a pleasant experience for Solaris, given that they ultimately destabilised him, resulting in him being explosively torn into two parts.

This event is the entire reason that Solaris, and his two fragments, are hostile. Before the Solaris Project, Solaris himself was a benevolent and benign entity. As the Flame of Hope, he was genuinely worshipped by the people of Soleanna, and was said to have once saved the city from a great fire, while in the form of an eagle.

Now, it's been theorised that Solaris actually caused that fire, but there's no actual evidence to suggest that beyond association with fire, and engineering a false-flag disaster to force people to worship him generally isn't in-character with what we know of Solaris pre-Project.

That said, their faith wasn't without its darker side, as prophecy foretold that one day, Solaris' wrath would be incurred, manifesting in the forms of the Flames of Disaster. And this is exactly what the Solaris Project ended up doing, driving Solaris berserk and resulting in both of his halves becoming monsters.

So for Mephiles, hatred of Duke, and Elise by proxy, would already be extremely personal. But it doesn't stop there, because the Duke is also the one to seal Iblis within Elise, putting him in the line of fire for the same reasons as Shadow and Silver.

And how better to exact a posthumous vengeance against the Duke than by emotionally breaking his beloved daughter, and in doing so, directly undoing the seal he made, in precisely the way he tried to prevent?

Mephiles' mind was probably made up on how he'd free Iblis from the moment he learned what the key to the lock was.

5) Mephiles' actual goals.

With that in mind, here's my simplified list of what Mephiles wants to achieve in 06.

Re-fuse into Solaris.

Free Iblis by emotionally devastating Elise.

In destroying Elise, achieve vengeance on the Duke by ruining his plans and tormenting his daughter.

Make Silver the one to free Iblis by killing Sonic, an ironic punishment for sealing Iblis to begin with.

Torment Shadow with the terrible future ahead of him as vengeance for sealing him to begin with (Side project).

So yeah, I don't think Mephiles' plan is overly convoluted. Most of his actual plan to reunite with Iblis is straightforward enough. Everything other aspect is either a contingency or a side-project, and any inefficiencies are the result of his sadistic need for vengeance on Shadow, Silver, and the Duke.
