honestly not really? anybody i didn't like in saber got progressively better as the show went on (or at least was given an out by super sentai lmao)

tassel got a good ending, ren was an annoying little brat until he was literally everything to me, i wanted to strangle durandal with my bare hands (and every staff member who signed off on it!!!!) for derailing reika's character in favor of making her weirdly obsessed with her brother but then they became honorary zenkaigers for 20 minutes and i could just focus on appreciating that and ignoring everything about what came before ^_^

Shindai ryoga oniisama……. a serious and uptight guy but is also an oniisan baka who loves his little sister enough to wear a cheongsam to save her…. Has his own pathetic fail man moments…. The gap moe is too delicious…… 😇🙏 and i think that oniisama is a finely aged ossan 👀🙏😇 he has all the hiromi vibes but better..!!!! (Him being an older brother and older are big plus points for me personally)

I wanna watch the sabela/durendal spin off but im not sure if it requires any knowledge from the og series hmm 🤔

I forgot to give you Juliana's whole thing! Anyways meet

Juliana Shindai

She grew up in the sword of Logos for the first few years of her life. So she is childhood friends with Ise and Sora, who she considers her older brothers even though they don't see each other often

Juliana went to school in Zenkaitopia due to there being an abundance of Human/Kikanoid children there, so Juliana wouldn't feel like an outcast. Ryoga was not happy about his sister moving out because it meant he doesn't get to see his little sister or adorable niece daily

She grows up to have a fascination for the occult, magic, and astrology, much like her Mama. But also begged her mother train at least to train her in the basics of swordsmanship because she thinks it looks cool

She does have a transformation gimmick, it kinda works like the ride watches, but instead of taking the sentai/rider's powers, she borrows their powers by summoning it via friendship medals. While she isn't a sentai member, she's not a kamen rider either. Her transformation machine is a wrist watch (Based off of the Yokai Watch Model Zero)

She does get lifted a sword by Tetsuo, to which she plans to learn how enchant it to change shape and match whichever rider/sentai medal she is using

While she usually stays in Zenkaitopia, she is often dragged along on adventures by Satoshi, whom she begrudgingly considers a cousin.

She hates being asked if she is a sentai or a Rider because it makes her feel like she has to choose between her mothers, and she hates it. She loves them both equally and could never choose

She also picked up both of her mothers sweet tooth and Magine’s nervous muttering

I'm not quite sure what to make of this all but I'm happy to roll with it 😂

Took a peek at the Shindai sibling special the other day last year and it actually had a few things I liked

Complete disinterest in the other Shindai sibling whose debut I never watched >> learning Ken Shonozaki has a son via a random tweet >> absently thinking Ryoga is a forgettable character but he isn’t bad looking >> my heart melting as little kid Reika ran into Ryoga’s arms she’s so cute

Reika in traditional wear feat. Yume Miyamoto (Magine) playing a waitress! Doubles as a chance for Mei Angela, the biggest Magine fan, to admire her magical voice because she sounds just like her (a callback to the Saber/Zenkaiger crossover) heh

It was pretty strange witnessing a joyful, affectionate Reika when I last saw her plotting to demoralize and isolate several swordsmen tbh. I mean, it’s not impossible for siblings to openly love each other + everyone changes how they act/think around certain people. Reika’s no exception to this. But the way her adoration towards Ryoga is portrayed...sometimes feels at odds with her character? Not to mention her decisions are reframed to revolve around Ryoga and recontextualizes why she was so devoted to Master Logos in the first place, despite throwing in a line or two about Reika making her own decisions

However, I do see what they’re going for. And as someone who enjoys sibling relationships with large age gaps feat. the older one assuming a parental role, if they did a few steps differently then I would’ve liked their bond a lot more

Another way of looking at it: Szabela is the mask/armour Reika cultivated to suit her guild lifestyle. Now that she no longer needs it, she’s somewhat displaced because she never stopped being that little girl diving into her brother’s arms at heart

Ryoga comes off as one strict and old-fashioned guy (not that marriage doesn’t bring happiness, it’s just how he pushed Reika into it because he thinks it’s a ‘guarantee’), but his heart’s in the right place. Plus he’s awkwardly endearing. Fumbling for the right words, trying not to cry as he sent Reika off to her wedding...I’m starting to like you!

Honestly this special had me wish they wrote Ryoga as Reika’s dad, which could contrast Rintarou’s relationship to his predecessor and the Fukamiya men. Have it so Ryoga’s a devoted swordsman at odds with the ever-changing world (in part to the Wonder World slowing his physical ageing) but found peace and happiness in his beloved daughter. He even considered giving up the family legacy so they could enjoy a normal life - before Noroshi chose Reika. He strongly opposed, fights became commonplace, and Reika “rebelled” by throwing herself into her duties. To boot, Shindais are notorious for being prideful; neither of them are willing to make the first move in reconciling. By the present day, there’s a huge rift wedged between them and they’re coldly polite at best. But they still care for each other deep down
