Chapter 1

However Alia THOUGHT her day would go, made her in for a adrenaline filled awakening.

Alia awoke with a yawn, stretching what she had of her purple wings before the rest of her feathers rejoiced to the ones that clung to her back. She sat in bed looking at herself in her light surrounded mirror. Gods, her hair was a mess. She needed it cut, her bangs had gone straight again when she was meant to have curtains and the rest of her hair’s layers were barely visible. She stood, grabbing a purple hairbrush that was on her dresser and started brushing her dirty blonde locks. 

The longer she took to get ready, the more it set in that finals for eighth grade were nearing, the progressive thinking about it only lead her in one direction. Realizing she had to start applying for high-school entrance exams. 

She knew she wanted to be a hero. Ever since she was little and could start learning history properly, she heard stories about the amazing heroes that took down the greatest obstacle the world had ever met. All for One. She wanted to be part of that protection, to keep the people she cared about safe, her friends, her family, the world. She knew her quirk would be useful for it too, fierce wings. It's the same quirk that her (2nd place) idol has, Hawks. He was a fighter in the final battle against AFO, his strategies were something Alia had studied over, knowing it’d help her progress with her own.

She was done getting ready, a nice pair of flared jeans, a white top and her regular maroon red zip up. Of course, not without her silver jewelry- layered chains and a few rings. She nearly never left without them. She took her phone off the charger and looked at the time wide eyed- 6:58. She had to be at the bus stop by 7:02- she had to hurry, get her shoes on- oh get her computer off her bed… and pack her bag. Alia practically scrambled to get out of the house, kissing her mom goodbye and slinging her backpack over her right shoulder. By a miracle, she managed to make it in time, not without panting and apologizing to Ms. G while getting on though. She received a glare while getting on, three seats from the front. She groaned.

“Kelley…” she mumbled, walking past her and sitting in the seat behind her, noticing it was the only nearby empty one. 

“Thalia.” She responded in a sly, mocking tone.

Alia scoffed and attempted to return her breathing to normal from running the long distance. She rolled her eyes and took her earbuds out of her pocket, putting them in and listening to some music. She hummed along to “If - by, Janet Jackson” while she thought about the interaction. Liv was never a pleasant one to see, they used to be best friends but once she dropped Alia in fifth grade before crawling back to her two months later, there was always a doubt in their friendship, so Alia decided to give it up completely in the early spring of that year, finally acknowledging the toxicity of it. 

Before Alia could even think back to their other old friend groups, they arrived at school and were being dismissed off the buses. Everyone started scrambling to their lockers or breakfast, Alia buying juice and heading off to her locker. She wasn't the “lock type.” Sure, the school would originally put a zip tie on your locker if you didn't have one but it was easy to work around that so they gave up early in the school year knowing most people already had locks.

“Thalia!” said a familiar voice. Alia quickly whipped her head to see one of her bestfriends walking towards her from Seniora Wisa’s homeroom class. 

Alia’s standard, normally pissy expression immediately became warm as she smiled and gave a wave before tending back to gathering her things.

“What's up Rye?” Alia grinned as her friend came up next to her locker. She held her things and her locker slammed shut behind her making her flinch.

“I told you to tell me when you’d do that!” Alia yelped as her feathers puffed out.

“Oh- Sorry… I forgo-” Rylee started an apology before getting cut off.

“Watch it, Tabatha.” Jake said, shoving into Alia, neither of them realizing the slam of the locker had ended up with her in the near middle of the hallway. Sebastian glared at her with a snicker, setting off fire in his hand as their group walked off.

Alia sighed at the nickname, “Let's just go, I want to look at applications.” She gestured towards the stairs with her wings, hands full with school supplies.

“Right- well-” she stuttered “I know your quirk is useful for hero work but are you sure you want to look into that..? Can't we all just stay on our path into our district’s highschool..?”

Alia and Rylee made their way down the stairs. “I’ve been talking about this week’s applications for months. I really want this Rylee… Besides, your parents are always moving with your- what, six siblings?”

“Six?? Where’d you get that from?! It's three. Not counting my older sister”

“Right, four, but you’ll probably be gone by Junior year.” Alia mumbled the last part in sadness, not wanting to think too much about the fact that she won't see her best friend if they move.

Rylee huffed, but immediately gained her happy smile right back once she caught a glimpse of their other best friends, Rory and Meri.

Rory was her normal self, jumper, jean shorts, messy thin blonde aligning nearly perfectly with her emitter quirk she let roam behind her in a stylish fashion, “seamstress.” Meri was wearing black leggings and a beautiful blouse with her gold jewelry aligning her elven-like ears. But… she looked mad, which was weird, she was never mad..? None of them ever were. With the exception of Alia when she rambled about her younger sister.

“Hey- oh- is it that thing about Renity?” Rylee asked cautiously as she approached.

“YES! I don't understand how she thinks she can just completely ignore me now?!” She yelled, slamming her locker while putting her school things in a tote bag at her side. 

As much as Alia was intrigued and wanted to know more about her ignorant ex friend– who left the group so she could pay more attention to her psychiatrist and an attempt to get better mentally– she needed to focus, the most she could. She knew she was eligible for an abroad application with a rare quirk like hers. The only reason she got it was because of a passed male dominant gene on her mom’s side from her great great great grandfather. Which even then, it was a miracle that he got it from- actually, that's too long of a chain and she needed to keep her eyes on the prize.

She entered room two-hundred and six to see a line of sorted sheets on the lectern. Her eyes lit up as she went to her seat and fiddled with a feather she let fall from her wings.

“Ah! Thalia, I need to talk to you after class.” Miss. Tusk requested, giving her a proud and knowing grin. 

Alia’s brows furrowed and she nodded, fiddling with the feather even more. Her mind was wild, wondering if she had been lucky enough to have a school want her, if there was an agency wondering if she could train there first year into highschool. So many thoughts popped into her head that hadn't even occurred to her once, and it was stressing her out.

The class went through the motions of looking over schools in New York before Miss. Tusk showed and reviewed how to use a website that guided each student over good schools in other states. 

“And if you get a good school recommendation from another country, you’ll receive a letter from the school board.” Miss. Tusk smiled and took a glance at Alia, who was zoned out, mumbling at her laptop. “The school admission requests are due by the end of next week, and if you fail to turn one in, you will be put into our district's highschool. Which, as you know, is not a hero course school.” Miss. Tusk peeks at the clock to her left and sighs. “You may use these last five minutes to review schools before the bell rings.”

Alia went blurry eyed after that sentence, she scrolled through schools from across the states, finding none that interested her. None of her favorite heroes went to big and flashy schools, which- she didn’t need to either but none of the smaller ones really stood out to her either.

The bell blared and happy chatter erupted her mumbling, she shut her laptop, stacking her things and turning to see a towering Miss. Tusk.

“Oh- hi Miss. Tusk, sorry, I nearly forgot. What did you want to talk to me about?” Alia looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

“You’re needed in the office, the school emailed the best hero training school in the world, recommending you go. A few teachers pitched in to express their joy of having you as a student.” Miss. Tusk started, Alia’s jaw dropping. “It’s a school in Japan, called U.A.? I’m sure you’ve learnt about it in History.” Miss. Tusk smirked, handing Alia an envelope.

“U.A.?! Are you kidding?! Holy shit! Deku, Dynamite and Shoto all went there!” Alia screamed, her feathers puffing out and spreading out to their full length.

“Uh- who?” Miss. Tusk barely got out before seeing the pure sparkles in Alia’s eyes, deciding not to worry about it.

Alia was in a fit of giggles but paused when she backtracked “Wait- did other people get these?”

“Well, the school also submitted a recommendation form on your behalf and one other girl- uh- Rylee Storm? And four people got recommended for the entrance exam.” Miss. Tusk was about to list the request names but before she could, Alia squealed and grabbed her stuff.

“Thank you so much Miss. Tusk! Oh my gods thank you!” Alia yelled her way out the door, making her way to Seniora Wisa’s room.

“RYLEE” she screamed as she bursted through the door.

“You got it too?!” she said, turning from the Spanish teacher to see Alia dropping her things on a random desk and running to her.

Rye pulled Alia into a tight embrace while Seniora Wisa watched, proud of the two before interrupting.

“You know, you two are the only kids the district has ever put recommendations up for. Your other two friends only got requests to take the entrance exam.” the teacher said in a soothing voice as she floated a clipboard towards her with her telekinetic quirk. “You guys will probably get in just from the recomm-”

“WHAT?!” Alia and Rylee screamed in sync and looked at Wisa in shock. “Which of our friends?!” Alia asked in a seemingly constant state of shock.

“Uhh…” She scanned the clipboard with her finger, stopping at assuming a name or two. “Rory Spiral and Meraki Dale- Oh! And that Jane Smith, you guys are friends with her too right?”

Rylee and Alia radiated pure joy. They toothily smiled at each other, Alia’s wings flapping, causing a few papers to swirl, to which her feathers neatly put them back.

“Thank you, Thalia. You two and your friends have been given the option because of these offers to leave after the start of third period.” Seniora Wisa spoke hesitantly, “As I said, you need to go to the office for this period, you guys getting in on recommendations is serious. Especially with your discipline record Thalia.”

In that moment, Rylee and Seniora could see the stars of happiness in Alia’s eyes crack and shatter. Her smile faded nearly instantly. Dread filled her head and all she could think about was her suspension from last year.

“Surely that doesn’t carry into highschool- right..?” Rylee questioned her teacher. “Especially not abroad– right?”’

Seniora went silent, a stack of sticky notes and a pen floating over to her.

“Truely, I’m not sure, it's just something I thought you should think about.” She said, writing a pass on a sticky note and handing it to Rylee. “You two should go to the office now.” She said with obvious pity in her voice.

The two walked out, Alia letting all her feathers loose and under her control, making them carry her supplies and Rylee’s with the exception of their envelopes and the pass. Alia had a clenched fist as she turned in the direction of her locker, opening it, allowing her feathers to stuff her laptop and folders in her bag. 

“Let's go to the office.” Alia said in the calmest voice she could manage.

Rylee nodded, understanding her unintentional mumble, then walking from the third floor to the first.

“It’ll be fine Thalia- I’m sure the recommendation will play a part in erasing it too-” Rylee stopped talking when she realized Alia didn't even want to respond.

Alia took a deep breath as they approached the main office door, opening it with a smile and Rylee trailing behind her.

“Mr. Willow, they’re here!” a random office worker called for the vice principal in a sweet tone.

The talk was very long, he himself wasn't sure if the suspension would be erased from her record or not, but it was “very likely.” They received little plaques, congratulating them on being the first two to receive recommendations from the school to good hero courses and agencies. He was an annoying go-lucky guy, but because of Thalia’s pissy mood, it only made him less tolerable. She hated his office, whenever she entered it, she felt like she did something wrong, which most of the time was the case, but none of her friends had ever been in there and yet the office workers knew her appearance and her name as if they were told to be careful.

It was tiring and made her want to leave as soon as she heard that damn bell. So, she did.

What type of friend are they? What are they like in a relationship?

I'll do one for all my current DA WIPS.

Journey Hawke (Open Road): She's the mom friend. If you need someone to organize your bachelor party, she's the one who's going to make sure everyone has a great time. She tends to hover a little too much sometimes and has trouble with the extent to which she gets emotionally invested in situations, but ultimately she finds fulfillment and satisfaction in taking care of the people she loves.

In a relationship, her primary love language is acts of service. She's not always the best at juggling her responsibilities, but she tries her best to make time to ensure her lover feels cared for.

Solona Amell (I Will See the Stars, Your Arms Feel Like Home, Poppies In Her Eyes): In both Inquisitor and Modern AUs, she's generally a pretty prickly person. She's moody, easily irritated, and doesn't trust easily. When she does consider you a friend though, she's in your corner for good. She doesn't judge, because chances are she's either fucked up worse than you or can see herself in a situation where she would probably have done the same thing. She's the friend that definitely knows how to get rid of a dead body, and if you say the word, she will come over at 3am and help you clean up the mess you got yourself into. She'll probably complain and shit talk you the whole time, but her lips are sealed and she'll take that secret with her to the grave.

Unfortunately, she's really bad at relationships. She has tragically poor impulse control and feels all of her emotions at 120% all the time, so she has a tendency to spiral out of control when domestic problems turn south. She has a tendency to run from her emotions (and the people causing them), so she gets really cagey when relationship problems arise. Her love language is quality time. She won't ever remember your birthday, but if she loves you, she will routinely make time in her life for you and do her best to honor those commitments.

Rylee Hawke (Your Arms Feel Like Home, Poppies In Her Eyes): Much like Solona, Rylee can be prickly and difficult to like. She's someone that had to grow up way too quickly, and she's learned to be ironclad with her boundaries in order to fend off the inevitable burnout. She's fiercely loyal to her chosen family though, and will go through pretty much any lengths to protect the people she considers home. If she doesn't like you, but someone she loves likes you, she will at minimum put forth an effort to try to figure out what they see in you.

In a relationship, she has a tendency to err on the side of tough love. She's had to learn a lot of lessons in her life the hard way and doesn't always remember how cushion an emotional blow in time to keep from hurting someone's feelings. Her love languages are quality time and acts of service. She'll insult you to your face, she will rarely if ever tell you she loves you, but if you're sick she will show up unannounced to clean your house top to bottom and make sure you're fed and have your meds.

Adrestia Tabris (The Seventh Circle): for the vast majority of people, Adrestia is the fair weather friend. She's got a lot of shit going on at home, and she's mostly just here for a good time. She grew up shouldering a lot of family obligations and being pulled in a lot of different directions, so any situation that starts to look like it's headed that way immediately makes her want to bail.

Her love languages are touch and words of affirmation. She's very touchy even with her friends (hugs, casually holding hands, friendly shoulder bumping, etc.) and given the consent she doesn't shy away from public displays of affection with her lovers. Just don't ask her to water your plants, because they will die.

Origins

Lanariel Surana - Anjali Bhimani

I’ve always imagined Lana’s voice is bright, but also with the ability to be subdued and soothing when she wants. A voice where she can be loud and mouthy, but turn around and coo softly to someone she cares for. Something in Anjali’s voice just clicked for me when I was listening to that vid once with her and Chloe and here we are, lmao.

Rylee Tabris - Cara Gee (à la Camina Drummer in The Expanse)

There’s nothing soft about Rylee. She has a rough, throaty voice that commands attention when she speaks no matter how loud or soft she is. I also love the idea of city elves sounding distinct from the humans. Not like the Dalish, but there’d be this pride, almost, to not lose your “elfy-ness” and start sounding like a shem. Tbh part of it is also that she brings a nice counterpoint to Ise’s bright, lilting voice.

Isethari Mahariel - Joanna Page

Ise’s voice is very bright, high, and... distinct to her. There’s usually a sing-song tone behind her words when she’s in a good mood. It can drive her companions crazy at times, but she still manages to bring a sunshine mood wherever she goes.

Eleri Cousland - Alex Wilton Regan (à la the femquisitor in Inquisition)

This one has taken me forever and a half to fucking figure out. Eleri has such a, idk, distinct voice in  my head I guess that’s made it difficult to pin down an actual voice about it. But something about Alex’s performance as the Inquisitor just feels so much more accurate to Eleri that anyone else I’ve found. I actually tossed around the idea of it being like Rebecca Ford in how she portrays the Lotus in Warframe. There’s a similar... tenor? I guess? To their voices that just fits Eleri. She doesn’t have a higher pitched voice, but it’s also not overly low and sits right in that space between.

Rayna Hawke - Jamie Murray & Ashley Hawke - Jo Wyatt

Can’t get away from the default voice for Ashley. It’s just... her to me, but also why I felt Rayna needed a voice all her own, but still something somewhat similar. Her voice, however, is definitely on the more haughty side compared to Ash. Where Ashley usually sounds bright and playful (and flirty), Rayna often sounds like she’s talking down her nose at people (she kinda is tho, to be fair).

Inquisition

Olivia le Blanc - Chloe Hollings

Being from Orlais, I naturally wanted to have someone that sounded French for Olivia, but not too French. Olivia’s been away from home for quite a while and her accent has definitely faded (except when she gets angry, then it suddenly pops up again and usually it’s quite thick an accent at that point, too). While she can carry a commanding tone if she desires, her voice is much more soft and subdued than most expect of her - not just because of her templar background, but her position as Inquisitor. A few nobles have even commented on how honeyed her voice was after meetings with her.

Nathra Lavellan  - Paula Burrows (à la Rayla in The Dragon Prince)

She has that Dalish sound, that accent, but not as strong as, saaay, Ise. It’s an accent she picked up from her parents, and one that fades in and out at times the more she’s around the Inquisition. Her voice is generally pretty mellow and soothing.

Anika Ramsey  - Shirley Manson

Anika always has been, and always will sound blatantly from Starkhaven, lol. Something about Shirley’s voice just seems right for Anika to me, I dunno. There’s kinda this warmth to it? And that’s definitely something key to Anika being the warm and nurturing type she generally is.

Talonia Adaar -  Shohreh Aghdashloo

Tal has somewhat of a lower toned voice, and she’s more on the soft spoken side. There’s a roughness around the edges, some of it from simple disuse - she doesn’t talk much and when she does there’s a frayed sound around the edges. Shohreh’s distinct voice just... something about it seems to work for Tal unlike anyone else I’ve been able to find.

Aela’Shar nar Moreh - Gal Gadot

I’ll honestly say I haven’t thought that much about finding a voice (yet) for Aela, and I wasn't planning on doing my ME OCs at the moment (would have been way too many for me). Buuut in hunting for Eleri, I was listening to an interview with Gal and idk man, something just clicked and I went "that's Aela". So, here we are, I have no better description than this lmao.

eli ‘hawk’ moskowitz: jealousy

about: you and your boyfriend hawk go to your friend moon’s party and hawk finds you talking to some guy and he gets jealous. 

You and your boyfriend Hawk walk into the party hand-in-hand. As soon as you walk into the large house, Moon rushes over to you.

“Y/N! You’re here! I’m so happy you made it!” Moon exclaimed and hugged you.

“Hey, Moon.” You smiled, hugging back.

She pulled away and waved to Hawk. “Hi, Hawk.”

The boy just gave her a nod.

It was a little awkward between them considering they used to date, but Moon didn’t mind that one of her best friends was dating her ex. Her and Hawk didn’t even date for that long anyways.

“Come on, let’s go outside so you can see everyone. There’s some people I want you to meet too.” Moon grabbed your arm.

You looked behind you at your boyfriend. 

“Go. I’ll grab us some drinks.”

“Okay.”

The two of you shared a small kiss before you went outside with Moon.

“Hey, Y/N.” Sam waved to you.

“Hi, Sam.” You smiled at her as Moon continued pulling you.

You and Moon ended up by the bar next to the pool where a girl and two guys were standing.

“Star, Jake, Ryle, this is Y/N my best friend. The one I was telling you about.” Moon introduced. 

“Um, hi.”

“Y/N, these are my cousins from San Diego. They came to visit and my parents are out with theirs so that’s why we’re having a party.”

“Hello, cousins from San Diego.”

They all smiled and Ryle, the cute one, chuckled.

“I’m Star.” The girl introduced.

“I’m Jake.” The tall one said.

“And I’m Ryle, the taller, cuter one said.”

“It’s really nice to meet you guys.”

“Yay, you guys are getting to know each other!” Moon cheered, clapping. “Now, I’m going to grab a drink.”

“I’ll come.” Star said and followed Moon.

The two girls walked away and you were left standing there with Jake and Ryle.

The three of you were awkwardly looking at each other.

“Hey, who’s that girl.” Jake pointed to someone behind you.

You turned around and saw Tory standing there.

“Um, that’s Tory. She’s pretty tough and--.”

“Cool. I’m going to talk to her.” Jake decided and began walking away.

“She’s in a...relationship...” You trailed off, sighing.

“Jake doesn’t care. He’s kind of a fuckboy.” Ryle said.

You turned around to face him. “And you?”

“Eh. I mean, I’m no fuckboy, but I occasionally get a girl.” He shrugged.

“Occasionally? I mean, you’re just being humble.”

“No seriously. I actually care about girl’s feelings.”

“Ah. So you do the bare minimum.” You nodded.

“Um. I--. Well--.”

“Relax. I’m teasing.”

“Oh.”

The two of you continued walking and Hawk walked outside after getting you your drinks.

He looked around the room until his eyes saw you. You were laughing with Ryle by the bar and anger filled up Hawk’s chest.

He walked over, staring Ryle down.

When he finally got to you, he wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you close.

“Hey, babe.” You kissed his cheek.

But he didn’t even look at you, he just kept staring at Ryle.

“What’re yo doing here with my girlfriend?” Hawk asked.

“Oh, um, we were just talking. I’m Ryle.” Ryle stuck out his hand.

Hawk let go of you and stepped forward. “Yeah, I don’t care who you are. Stay away from my girlfriend.”

“Okay, Hawk, that’s enough.” You grabbed his arm.

“And what if I don’t?” Ryle stepped forward.

He shoved you off of him and stepped forward, balling up his fists.

“Then you’re going to regret it.”

Ryle stepped closer so that they were face to face.

“Okay, enough. Hawk we’re leaving. Let’s go.”

You grabbed him and pulled him away.

“Hawk! Are you kidding me!” You exclaimed when the two of you got into the car.

“What?” He asked.

“You were gonna fight him! He’s Moon’s cousin!” You exclaimed.

“So?”

“So, you can’t do that!” 

“I don’t want guys near you, Y/N. And he was too close to you.”

“It’s fine that you want to defend me, but you can’t fight every guy that comes my way. Also, I’m not gonna leave you for anyone else. You don’t have to be jealous. I want you and only you.” You assured.

“I wasn’t jealous.” Hawk mumbled.

You raised your eyebrows at him. “Hawk.”

“Fine, but it’s because I love you, alright?” 

“I love you too, Hawk.”

The two of you shared a kiss before leaving the party.

"Oh yeah? How do you know that you're right about this?" (Rylee to Rossi)

Rossi pauses, then turns, eyes searching his daughter’s face for a sure sign that she’s joking. Instead, he’s met with a worried expression. One that puts all of his initial jokes on hold. He raises a brow. Sets his mug down on the counter, like it’s something unimportant - something he can get back to later, once he’s sure Rylee is reassured - and stares at the young woman he used to tuck into bed almost every night.

It makes sense. Her worry. He remembers being her age, overthinking everything, especially when it came to relationships. He’d spend days trying to woo women and men alike, acting like he was some smooth guy - until he got home and rubbed his hands together on his bed, wondering what to do next.

But Rylee has nothing to worry about. He knows this for a fact. He’s been watching closely, like a hawk ; a habit he can’t quite shake, thanks to the FBI and their training.

“He’s nervous around you. Maybe you can’t tell, ‘cause you’re nervous too, but his hands shake when he sits next to you and he can never figure out where to put them, so he settles for his lap. Taps his knee. A defense mechanism he picked up over the years. He wants to be close to you. Whenever he comes over, he makes a point to brush his arm against yours or sit too close to you on the couch. And yes, I notice, but I don’t say anything.” Even though I want to. He puts a smile on his face. “He likes when you reciprocate. Likes the attention. Whenever you look at him, he gets this silly grin on his face, like he can’t believe you’re giving him the time of day. So, yeah. I’d say I’m pretty right about this.” Rossi turns back towards his coffee mug, eager fingers slipping around its’ exterior. “Now - go ask the kid out before he pops a blood vessel.”

Hello and welcome, dear visitor, at the Grand Library of Treviso! The name's Ryle and I'm the Keeper of all the knowledge that's contained in here. Feel free to roam around and have a look at whatever catches your interest. There's something for everyone in here, I'm certain of it. 

We have works about the creatures and cultures of Thedas, history and religion, magic and songs, biographies of famous people and heroes, as well as old scrolls about long forgotten civilizations and their ancient tales. 

We also have records about the three great heroes of our current age. Books about the fifth Blight and the Hero of Ferelden can be found here on the first floor, stories about Hawke are on the second and everything you need - or want to know - about the Inquisitor is stored on the third floor. And the uppermost level of the library is home to some minor tales that took place in the shadow of those three heroic figures. 

Be sure to treat our books with due respect and care during your stay, though.

I also wanted to gauge y’alls thoughts on if I used these as banners (or something like them) for my fic posts? I’d talked about it a while back, but hadn’t had a chance to go much with the idea until now. If I do use these, do y’all have any suggestions? Add/change/etc?
