"“THE FUTILITY OF CRIME"," Toronto Star Weekly. May 28, 1938. Page 50. ---- W HEN THOMAS "SHORTY" BRYANS is hanged June 30 for the murder of Norman Ford, Canadian police will write "finis" they hope to the most amazing saga of crime in the history of the Dominion's desperadoes… the story of the "Red Ryan gang."
Only one member of that reckless band of bank-robbers which Norman Ryan led "over the wall" of Kingston penitentiary in one of the most daring jail-breaks on record is still at large, and he, police, say, is going straight.
Edward "Wyoming" McMullen was shot at Blaine when he was "wanted" by Ontario police for the murder of Edward Stonehouse of Markham. Andrew Sullivan was shot and killed in Minneapolis. Red Ryan was shot and killed with Harry Checkley in Sarnia. Bryans was released from Kingston penitentiary May, 1937. Nine months later he was convicted of the murder for which he is under sentence of death.
When Ryan died in a liquor store he had tried to hold up in Sarnia, he had just unwittingly written the epitaphs of all of his gang in a book he titled: "The Futility of Crime."

Wish I had video editing skills so I could do an edit of any one of my tragic ships to If This Is The End by Ryan McMullan
Thought it fit for Ineffable Husbands, but also now parts of it could work for caphavers...
So throwing it to the universe, in case someone was looking for a song
#adventures in fandoming#so many ships it works for#ineffable husbands#caphavers#janto#destiel#off the top of my head#sorry for the tag spam

Can Someone with creative video skills, please make a Betty and Archie vid to this song. It screams future! Betty x Archie 😩
We'd walk the same old streets,
I'd breath the air that you breath
And feel your heartbeat next to me.
I'd come running,
I'd come running again,
If you wanna talk it out
You need only let me in.
I'd come running,
I'd come running again
In a heartbeat.

A very special event: Ward Park 3, Bangor, Northern Ireland, 25.05.2019
by Mig-El
Snow Patrol decided to start the festival season with their very own special event. Ward Park 3 is the third big concert organised by the band in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Home of Gary Lightbody and Jonny Quinn (lead vocals and drums). The biggest event to be held in Northern Ireland, this time it took the form of a full one-day-festival
Ward Park 3 was meant to be a celebration of the music scene in Northern Ireland and it really is something to be proud of. The bill had only artists from their "wee" country.
The grounds had all the basics: two stages, merch, food and drinks stands. Not just in Ward Park but outside in Bangor it seemed like it was Snow-Patrol-land. Restaurants and shops offered "special deals" such as "Snow Patrol fry" for breakfast and a mural with the artwork of their latest album Wildness decorated the pier. At the festival it was possible to eat "Chasing Cars" chips and there was even a stand with hot sauce that also had names of Snow Patrol songs.
(complete photo set here)
I did not see anyone at the smaller "Third Bar Stage", which featured young artists like JC Stewart and Roe, who just like Brand New Friend and Foy Vance, who played at the Main Stage, have been supporting Snow Patrol on tour.
The schedule was very tight. 7 sets took place from 3:00pm to 10:30pm on the Main Stage. The last gaps were filled with the Third Bar sets. That meant a lot of music to enjoy, but very little time for each artist.
Brand New Friend were on first full of excitement for being able to play such a big and special gig being such a young band. Jealous Of The Birds was one my favourite discoveries. Their live performance was brilliant. Each musician played originally and perfectly.
SOAK then gave us a little break from rock with their darker and very melodic tunes. The lead singer seemed to not be used to a big crowd but it was just nice to see her being herself. By the time Ash took the stage, the place looked finally packed but still very relaxed. This was definitely my least favourite moment but many people sang along to the classics.
The last three acts were artists from Bangor actually. Foy Vance played flawlessly as he usually does, joined by a full band and eventually also by Ryan McMullan, Iain Archer and Miriam Kaufmann. The two latter are a couple that have collaborated with Snow Patrol numerous times.
The second headliner of the day was Two Door Cinema Club. They are back and about to release a new album and their set was definitely too short for how good they are. In the 40 minutes that they had, they played a few brand new songs as well as their most popular old songs with a new style on stage: all red gear, colourful outfits and animations.
Finally the long awaited time for Snow Patrol came. An intro with a few images of Bangor and bits of songs by all the artists of the day reassured it was not just about them. It was also time to reveal the potential of the lighting setup. The stage was equipped with screens all the way to the sides, as well as on the top. Where usually there are screens and a printed design covering the rest of the structure and decorating, it was all screens showing artwork of Wildness and using a part of it to display what the cameras were capturing.
Snow Patrol's set was only 1.5 hours, which was really short considering it is a special concert, but they certainly made it count. They played a short version of their standard setlist of the Wildness tour, consisting of mostly songs from the the album of the same name and their most popular songs like Chasing Cars, Run and Chocolate. For more details you can check out other Snow Patrol gig reviews here on Find A Song. 100% biased. ;)
The moments that truly stood out were the following: during Take Back The City a video was displayed showing different places in Northern Ireland as well as important people. It was very moving and people cheered whenever they saw their cities and their heroes. During Open Your Eyes this time they showed a map of Northern Ireland whose roads lit up and formed a shiny web. The best use of their screens was without a doubt during the epic What If The Storm Ends? where the whole stage was filled with flying origami stars forming galaxies.
Fans of Snow Patrol were hoping for something rare on the setlist and the band had a surprise prepared that nobody saw coming. Gary acknowledged the great music from the Republic of Ireland and to honour the neighbours and Ireland as a whole they decided to play One by U2. It's hard to imagine anyone there not knowing that song. But as if that wasn't enough, during the second verse the one and only Bono appeared on the stage taking over the vocals of his song. The audience (myself included) went absolutely crazy and sang even harder after taking a moment to process the fact that Bono was there. Gary seemed to be in awe just as the rest of us.
I would like to finish not only by recommending you to check out the bands but also the country. If you have the chance, visit Northern Ireland. Its people is not only talented but also incredibly nice and its history and nature will leave you astonished.
