RWRB Movie: Sequel Series?

Hear me out.

A while back I mentioned that although I desperately want more Firstprince and more of the RWRB universe, I don’t really straight up want a sequel movie because of how complete the movie’s “fairy-tale” ending is and because I can’t think of, and don’t really want a full-on dramatic plot for their future. I kind of just wanna see them live their lives. I said I didn’t really know what’s the compromise between my two thoughts.

It hit me recently:

a series/ mini-series

The thing is, a series doesn’t need to be a continuous storyline. It can and most of the time it is, but it doesn’t need to be. May not be the best comparison but the Disney Junior shows I watched as a kid, while having some sort of overall continuity, aren’t always continuous. Each episode can serve as an independent story: sometimes it’s a flashback episode, sometimes it’s an alternate universe episode etc.

So when it comes to RWRB sequel, the benefit of doing a series instead of a movie is that it doesn’t need to be strictly set in the future, and it doesn’t have to have a dramatic over-arching plot, which leads to two big things we can work with.

One, we can jump around with the timeline, and give enough time to explore events that could only be mentioned in passing in the movie due to time constraints and pacing

@pippin-katz wrote a post about seeing a flashback to their first meeting in the sequel, and yes, absolutely, but with a series, a whole episode can be dedicated to their first meeting, which would be enough time to explore the whole event (i.e. Alex’s nervousness and Henry’s discomfort being at the conference, what happened after) and both Henry and Alex’s perspective. We can see everything from that day.

We could also fill in the gaps, moments that occurred during the movie but wasn’t fully presented. I don’t know if Wimbleton still works with the difference in dynamic and character on Henry’s part, but if it does it would be fun to see. One of the things that was in the book that I wish could have been in the movie was a moment of Alex’s showing his vulnerability and Henry understanding him immediately when they were just friends, so the Christmas phone call in Chapter 3, that can be in the series. Maybe the thing with kid Alex and the magazine photo of 12-year-old Henry. Things like Henry’s meeting with the King during his 18th birthday. Henry’s perspective of the Alex POV events and vice versa.

And of course we could have moments of their future, living together or working out a long-distance relationship, celebrating anniversaries, going on dates, doing public events as a couple, maybe even proposal, engagements, wedding, adoption, all the good stuff.

Two, we can focus on characters and relationships that aren’t Firstprince

Now don’t get me wrong, I love my boys and could never get enough of them

But one critic I’ve heard and sort of agree with is that a lot of supporting characters, and subsequently their actors, were underused. While I completely understand that again, it’s due to the limitations of movie storytelling, it’s still a pity.

With a series though? We can have episodes focusing on certain relationships, past, present and future.

We can have Henry’s relationship with his father, how the whole family fell apart for a few years because of losing Arthur and how much Henry’s grief affected him. (I think Nick would absolutely kill it)

We can have Alex learning more about Henry from Bea and Percy, and forming some sort of unspoken “Henry protection squad” bond.

We can have Henry reconciling with his grandfather and mother, and him introducing Alex to his mother.

And while we’ve seen Henry bond with Oscar, it’d be nice to see more of that, as well as see Henry bond with Ellen.

Firstprince will always be present, but with a series, it doesn’t always need to be the focus, and we can explore other relationships as well! And it’d give the other character a bigger chance to shine

And it can even be independent character studies: we can get a closer look into Henry’s depression and Alex’s ADHD/imposter syndrome (I’m not sure if movie Alex still reads ADHD, someone help me out here please, but if he does it’d be nice to see)

I love the movie so much and I understand that not everything can be translated on screen for it, but if the next related project is something more like “fill in the gaps” instead of “start a new thing” we can adapt certain things in the book that couldn’t be in the movie. Like colouring and adding things in the blank space of a painting instead of starting a new painting. Think about it, even Henry’s bonus chapter is a collection of miscellaneous moments that happen after the events of the book: it doesn’t have a plot.

I literally don’t know if this is a practical idea, and I’m aware this literally sounds like a collection of cannon compilate one-shot fanfics but on screen, but this is the best way to extend the RWRB universe I can think of

It’s more domestic fun and maybe fan service than making a statement/sending a message like the movie did, but the movie already did that, and it would just be nice to watch smaller moments of their lives

Wish Granted, I Guess

I don't even have words to fully encompass what I have been feeling since I heard the news this morning so how do I start this post? Oh well....

For a little backstory, I came home to the news that the SAG-AFTRA strike has ended already and that means content can be released, press tours are back and people can start talking about their projects. I was ecstatic and over the moon and yes, I was smiling like Alex and Henry are in the photo.

My social media, especially my Twitter was bursting with activity and happiness-filled posts. I joined along the fun and posted a few happy posts myself. I was tearing up of happiness and it's honestly a granted wish.

Fun fact: my birthday month happens to be November and the end of the strike is one of the things that I have been wishing for, alongside material things like books. For the strike to end on my birthday month is just something else. The amount of content that will come after today is just a bonus present.

Why do I have a photo of Alex and Henry, you ask? Well, here's why.

Well, to put it simply, Taylor, Nicholas, Rachel, Ellie, Aneesh and the rest of RWRB cast can finally talk about the movie. I simply can't wait for all the photo dumps on their IGs and the interviews that they could do now that they could talk about it. It just makes me so happy. To the cast, post whenever and however many photos you desire from the set. I can cry just thinking about the amount of photos and videos that I might get in the coming days, so there's that.

I now need them on like talk shows and stuff like that to fully talk about the movie. Like a post-premiere press tour, as it were because it's honestly what they deserve after not being able to share stuff because of the strike.

I mean, I have a lot of favorites that I want to hear share things about their projects (like some of my favorite Star Wars and Marvel people), but RWRB is special for so many reasons I can't even begin to put words into.

It's a simple truth, really. I will enjoy reading, browsing and listening to all the content that will come out after today. It's just a granted wish for me and I will happily enjoy the next days to come.

Same here, but honestly, the best way to do that is... to get the boys interviews and listen to Taylor and Nick talk about the film and Alex and Henry

Matthew said himself that the boys knew their characters better than he or even Casey did because the boys have to become Firstprince. Like, once they're on set and the camera starts rolling, they're not Taylor and Nick anymore, they're Alex and Henry. They know Firstprince more than anyone because they were them. That's why as soon as we can (when the strike is resolved fairly), I desperately want to hear them talk about everything.

Also, aside from interviews I still stand by my need for an in-character DVD commentary track because COME ON THAT WOULD BE SO COOL AND SO MUCH FUN TO LISTEN TO (also would be meta but extra firstprince content which PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE)

Finally someone saying it, it's like people forget how things need time and forget that there was a strike and they couldn't talk about anything with the studio. We had prime surprised about rwrb results, the boys saying they will be happy to do it, Nick saying they have talked about it, Matthew meeting the cast as soon as the strike ended and CMQ casually talking about scripts. We're not gonna have rwrb2 this summer that is pretty obvious, we need to learn things take time and remember that Casey might have other book/movie/tvshow projects, Matthew and the boys other work to do. At this point "the sequel is not happening" discourse is brought up because the fandom is bored and not because there are signs that is not happening.

No right, I absolutely understand that there is a huge desire to have news and new content related to the film and the cast, me first can't wait but here we have to accept that these things take time... that we had a strike which stopped everything and postponed projects that certainly now have priority in production and we must remember that the screenwriters were also on strike so the writing of the script will also have started recently. We must think that although there is a bonus chapter on which to base this story has to be written from scratch and it takes more time for everyone.

There are many possible variations. It's possible that Prime wants to wait to announce after the idea of you so as not to overlap two projects and perhaps take advantage of the hype that the film will obviously bring later.

In any case, filming isn't imminent so there's no point in announcing now and then going on set in 6 months if we're lucky... it takes time.

But everyone has been giving constant hints that something is in the air. Casey first, Nick keeps saying they're all open to the possibility (in his perfect press response), prime continues to push hard and do a lot of promo on the film even though it came out 8 months ago and they just announced a sequel of "a simple favor" movie released in 2018 do you really think they won't take advantage of the popularity rwrb had with 0 promos to make a sequel that with all the right press and visibility will give them triple what they already had?

We just have to be patient 🙏🏻

Sleepover game wsl: I'm curious, what's your opinion on rwrb potential sequel and what it would/should include?

I would love a sequel, but I'm also perfectly content without one. I just really want, more than anything, to see Nick and Taylor's careers flourish however they'd prefer.

If there is a sequel, I'd love to see some of the Henry POV bonus chapter content from the book. I have such a soft spot for him and seeing the movie-verse through his eyes would be amazing.

Other than that, I haven't thought much about what I'd like it to include!

How do you feel about talk of the rwrb-cinematic universe being a trilogy? I’ve seen people break it down to they (Alex/Henry) could have career and familial relationship to grapple within the sequel and get engaged at the end and in the third one they’re married and they have the brownstone and bonus Henry chapter stuff. I’m impartial to it to be honest. But I will say that I wouldn’t mind at all if there was a third movie/make it a trilogy because that means more content of the story and promo from Taylor and Nick. I just wonder about timing/schedules/logistics to make a third movie happen as well as depending on how much they add in this sequel that is publicly unconfirmed but basically confirmed. I know Taylor and Nick love their characters so much so that’s not that. And the demand will surely be there because the sequel will do great no doubt. I don’t know if I’m wording this correctly. I could see it but I could also see them tying it up with just the sequel by picking the main things they want to touch on leaving out some other things

What i'd like is to see the sequel be the engagement and end with the them married and on honeymoon that can capture everything in the bonus chapter. it's all building up to the wedding anyway.

A third installment, i'd like to see them adjusting to married life and maybe celebrating the anniversary of cakegate and maybe even having some kids. I just wanna see them married and boring.

talking about a third before a sequel is even a thing is a bit of a thought exercise. But I have no doubts when they do a sequel and it's just as successful, a third installment would follow and i think nick and taylor would be on board. They'd make it work.

Hi all!

I'm looking for a beta to read a Red White and Royal Blue fic I'm working on. I'm currently at 5k words, I'm thinking it will get up to max 20k, possibly not even that.

It's an AU road trip fic, (inspired by Ethel Cain's 'Thoroughfare', if that means anything to anyone), obvs Alex/Henry with a few content warnings: homophobia and discussion and thoughts of suicide and other mental health issues. Rating will max be mature for some v light sexual content.

I'd love someone to look over it from a mental health background - I'm pretty well versed in these things and do have my own experiences, but don't want it to be insensitive or too upsetting, and would appreciate some knowing eyes on it. If you're also American with an understanding of the south western states, that would be a bonus, but not necessary!

I hope I don't sound rude because that's absolutely not my intention but I think we should really let this whole "deleted scenes" thing go. Nobody ever releases deleted scenes from their films or shows and we have already had a lot on that front but above all Matthew explained to us why he doesn't want to share any more scene and why it was bad for him to already release what we had. It's useless to ask anything else about a film that was made and finished the way they wanted and they needed and if they made those cutting choices it is right to let it go

Hi! Okay, I'm gonna say this.

I understand your point of view, and of course, there's always gonna be a point where it goes from asking to demanding to harassing and that's always going to be toxic, but I'm just gonna try to explain at least why I think we're so fixated on the deleted scenes.

We lost a lot during the strike. And yes we did get some back during the Emmy campaign, but it's not enough to compensate for what we lost during the strike. There's always going to be the feeling of "we didn't get what we should have gotten" when it comes to RWRB, which is why we ask for bonus content.

It's not unusual to release deleted scenes, albeit it was more common in the past than it is now. The original 2012 Avengers movie released over 24 minutes worth of deleted scenes. We got two, and both the script released and people who attended early screenings revealed there were far more, we're curious.

I actually talked to @pippin-katz about this a while ago. The main reason Matthew said that he doesn't want to release the deleted scenes is that he cuts them for a reason, and he doesn't want fans to argue that those should be in the movie. And that's completely reasonable, both Pippin and I agree that the two released deleted scenes, namely the cornetto scene and the campfire scene, should have been deleted for the sake of the flow of the movie. But here's where I disagree with Matthew, even though I don't think he'll understand this perspective unless we collectively point it out to him: the people asking for the deleted scenes are most die-hard fans of the movie such as myself. Critics or casual viewers wouldn't be this persistent. And the thing is, fans aren't asking for the deleted scenes to disagree with him or criticise his choices, we're asking for those because we want to know what happens in between, the full story. The movie is a movie, and a movie has restrictions in its format, but we've gotten to the point where these character feel so real to us, and we want to know their story. I agree with what's cut that we know of, but it's still very nice and satisfying to watch the PR interview and know what the conversation between them last night; to hear Alex say "nothing will ever happen to you" and to know that he's deliberately using Henry's own words from his campfire monologue against him.

Not necessarily disagree with you, just offering a perspective.

my number one sapphic rec is her royal highness by rachel hawkins! it’s my fav sapphic book of all time and it’s like…aged down sapphic rwrb LOL and they came out the same week so weird. but anyway, it’s about a hs senior from texas who decides to do her last year of school at a scotland boarding school and her roommate turns out to be the princess of scotland. they give omg they were roommates and enemies to friends to lovers and popularxnerdy and they make me insane 😵‍💫😵‍💫 😵‍💫 highly recommend

this one is kind of basic but i don’t see a lot of people on tumblr talk about it: her name in the sky!! hrh has the sentimental factor for me but this def rivals it as my all time fav. it’s kind of better than a summary could convey but it’s a really really beautiful and powerful story. i’m not religious at all but i found the themes so touching and relatable and heartbreaking. bakerhannah i would do anything for you. friends to lovers with homoerotic tension excellence. also, the author uploads a lot of bonus scenes for them on her tumblr and her other two books are also great sapphic books! i like life of the party better but she drives me crazy is also really good! kelly is so talented so you can’t go wrong w any of her books (but def content warnings for hnits dealing with a lot of sensitive themes such as homophobia and internalized homophobia and being a gay member of the church in the deep south)

finally here are just some that are on my mind bc i’ve read them recently: not my problem (the romance itself isn’t super strong but the cast of characters is so so fun), a spindle splintered (not my favorite in terms of execution but 10/10 fairytale vibes and i’m looking forward to the sequel), and perfect on paper (not a sapphic romance but follows a sapphic main character, has a lot of lgbtq+ themes, and a really great main romance)

i’m DYING for a childhood friends to lovers sapphic romance done really really well. bakerhannah from hnits allllmost give us this but they dont really meet until hs so i don’t really count it. and sophiemina from far from you DO give this but we barely get to see any romance from them so they didn’t really scratch that itch for me. if anyone has any recs pls lmk!!

How Wonderful Life Is While You’re In the World (6/16)

*quietly shuffles in* would anyone care for an Alex bonus chapter? This was a fun challenge considering I had almost zero rwrb content to work with. I think it turned out pretty great though. except the part where i almost cried sorry there’s some angst i dont know where it came from

Summary: Yeah man idk this is just Red, White & Royal Blue but Willex. I hope you guys like this! It'll follow the same plot as RWRB, so while no knowledge of the book is needed, I'd honestly recommend reading it first. It's a beautiful experience to read and I don't want to ruin it for you.
