Ren: *pops his mouthguard in and squares up to face off* 😠

Referee: *drops puck*

Ren: *snaps puck away like lightning and passes to Pyrrha*

Announcer: …and JNPR wins the face off…

Nora: *shoulder-slams two Atlas defenders aside into the wall, rattling the glass* 😠

Announcer: OOOOH!! That’s a big hit from Valkyrie! Nikos is now wide open! And only four seconds left on the clock!

Pyrrha: *breaks away with the puck and bears down on Atlas goalie*

Atlas Goalie: *setting up to block* 😨

Jaune: *lifts his goalie mask and slams his mouth onto Pyrrha’s* 🥰

Can you imagine what Winter's thinking in this scene? Consider Volume 3, where she attacked Qrow for badmouthing Ironwood. She's always been Ironwood's most adamant defender and supporter, constantly ignoring how bad his plans have been and continue to be.

And NOW...she can't do that anymore. She can't look away or sugarcoat what he's doing. And she looks so annoyed.

Listen, I love the lost fable, it’s great, it’s so much fun, but it’s really misleading (that’s the point) and a lot of audience members take it at face value.

Two things stick out to me as hints that point to Jinn’s vision being not completely, totally, really the absolute truth:

1. In volume 8, the staff of creation/Ambrosias is revealed to be one of those “give you exactly what you ask for” macguffins, after Oscar tries to go back through the portal and it’s shown the portal is one way, a la “A one-way ticket to Vacuo.”

2. In volume 9, we’re told by the tree that the brothers Grimm were “born” simultaneously. The god of light is Not the elder brother. In the lost fable Jinn says, “It was here the elder brother dwelled beside his fountain,“ & “…all while careful to make no mention of [the god of darkness]’s elder,�� and we now know this to be false.

Bring these two pieces together (and other things but were focusing on point 1 & 2 for brevity) and we’re meant to find Jinn’s vision suspect.

What did Ruby ask Jinn again?

“What is Ozpin hiding from us?”

So, what Jinn showed them was not The Truth. But what Ozpin thinks, what Ozma believes, to be true.

And the characters took that vision at face value, but we the audience are meant to question it.

Divine or not, they are Dicks

I really hate the "Well they're gods" defense for the brothers genociding all of humanity because a couple of hundred rebelled. Its usually paired with stuff like "When I smash a mosquito for biting me, I'm not oppressing it" and I have many reasons to dislike it.

But even approaching the argument on its own terms I don't feel it holds up. Because the whole "Well they're gods" angle really doesn't work any better than people insisting that the Maidens have to have seasonal powers does.

Which is to say it does not work at all.

The Maidens don't actually embody the seasons, they just got gifted four chunks of powerful elemental magic.

The brothers aren't actually manifestations, embodiments or the inherent arbiters of creation and destruction, knowledge or choice the way Zeus is for storms and hospitality.

These are just magics they have a lot of power over and not even in specific domains split between them, they are literal twins, its just personal preference and their aesthetic.

I also find it weird people keep trying to latch onto the "Well they're gods we can't expect them to act like people or hold human morality" and then act like Salem is 100% human and also bereft of any other motives beyond petty selfishness and spite.

Ya know, despite her being ancient to an outright eldrich degree, functionally immortal, very blatantly no longer human when you explode her chest and find only black goo. Let alone that she is in possession of powerful supernatural abilities no one else has.

Hell, she actually was apparently imbued with destructive desires!

So by the logic of "They're gods, its their nature" its actually harder to blame Salem for her actions when she is canonically confirmed to be imbued with an inherently destructive impulse by her new nature.

The same cannot be said for the Brothers where its all just speculation.

If the brothers are ever after fairy tale bullshits, that makes the tree the real god of the setting as it made the brothers

Which COULD mean that the magic of the tree can supercede the magic of the gods

It really puts it into sharp perspective that the brothers are gods of Remnant, but they also have their OWN gods. It’s a Greek mythology hierarchy thing with the gods, the titans, and the giants

We love a power structure

Also finding out that the REAL god of RWBY is a comforting caring therapist who wants her creations and everyone to HEAL?? The most RWBY thing ever, no wonder the brothers always rubbed me the wrong way

They don’t mesh even with the world they created

The sequence in "Creation" When the gang at Schnee Mansion are discussing how to use the Staff to save the Penny and the kingdom's people is very good. It's not just one person telling the others what to do. The group is collaborating, comparing notes, making suggestions. We haven't seen anything like this since...Volume 2, when Team RWBY was going over their plans to investigate the White Fang/Torchwick. It really sells one of RWBY themes, that one person in charge cannot solve everything, which has been shown to be the source of many problems.

The four relics (and the entities within) are a compartmentalized recreation of the Blacksmith/Tree

They possess great knowledge

They offer choice

They "Destroy"

And from that destruction comes new raw materials to create

today i learned that Summer Rose's Japanese VA is Kana Hanazawa, who voiced Mato/BRS in Black Rock Shooter 2012 (which was an influence on early RWBY's animation) and Rinoa in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (originating from FF8, a piece of fanart inspired by her done by Monty - titled Transient Princess - was used as a placeholder image of Raven in the Yellow trailer)
