 With a title like COCAINE BEAR (2023), you're pretty much printing money. This horror comedy about a drug cartel dumping huge amounts of cocaine into the forests of Georgia and the bear who loves to ingest it never takes itself too seriously though finds a way to not become forced camp. Characters are set up to be mauled but the mains stay solid, even finding a bit of a redemption arc here and there. Goofy, gorey fun and not a bad ending for Ray Liotta's last film.

(Featuring: Pitstop Polly, Beau Beetle, She-tah, Smart Alec, Rex Rothur, The Magenta Mynx, a couple of GranGoons, Cat-Linda, and Jack Curr)

This one took that extra bit of oomph to make it pop, but i had fun with the halftones and dry brush effects and mixing them together. My goal is to do 6 cover for DIRTY SECRETS and then, eventually, start work on narrative comics in this style.

Ben Guinn was one of the original characters i came up with for this world. He was initially a kingpin of Suburbia, and maybe he still fancies himself that way, but now it seems that he has two new pals, Twopher and Izza Mystery! Waaaugh! The three revel in melodrama and romance, constantly alternating between fighting and flirting, pairing randomly to tease the other (except for one day, as we found out in that seminal story "Tis Twopher's Turn This Tuesday!").

hoo doggie, these covers are just flying off! (Comic book covers, of course!) Thanks again to the inimitable Dale Lazarov for sending in gorgeous headshots to be the reference for Ben Guinn!

inking done for a page for the story that's going into ALL QUEER LOVE No. 1, my queer cosplay romance comic! not sure which page yet, as I'm creating this comic in the "Mighty Marvel Manter" by drawing the panels and then filling in the script later. I have the basic beats for the 8-12 page story in my head and am searching the endless stack of public domain romance comics for layouts that will either help move the narrative along or at the very least, be really fun to draw.

i've also marked where the lettering will go, which i'll definitely be doing thru Illustrator bc i'm on a bit of a personal deadline to get the comic inked and lettered and printed by the beginning of December. I'm just excited that i'm drawing narrative pages again, first time in about two years!

Digital lettering definitely sped up the process and looks great to boot! I just got invited to table at this year's MAUI Comic Con and I cannot wait to bring this and a whole bunch more original art and comics to my favorite island!

i think it'd be keen if we could move away from feeling "patriotic" and more towards feeling "heroic" on this day. heroism comes in a myriad of forms but it is spurred by an intrinsic love for all, the desire to help and protect those who need such, and a fervor to fight for truth and societal progress against those who seek to hinder us.

so, in that glow of heroism, here's my reflection of it in the form of a queer cosplay romance comic. loving and helping each other will always see us through. <3
