Chapter 1

Double A, Double Trouble

Maraiah & Marianne — The Arceta Twins

"Ate Aiah!"

"Maloi? Oh, why are you pouting like that na naman ba?"

"Eh kasi, sabi ni staku di ka daw sasama sa gala namin mamaya with bunso."

Aiah softly laughed as she felt the younger woman cling on her arm, looking at her with her brown eyes that were behind her iconic red bayoneta glasses. Maloi pouted more at her reaction, tugging at the older girl.

"Sorry loi, may lakad kasi talaga ako today eh. Actually, kami ni Mommy, may pupuntahan kami"

"Saan ba yan, ate Aiah?"

This time, nanggaling sa likod nila ang boses. It was Stacey, and beside her was Sheena, who also greeted her Ate Aiah. The four of them were headturners as they walked down the hallways of their school, yet they paid no attention to the stares as they continued talking.

Of course, who wouldn't stare at the 4 Muses. Aiah, Maloi, Stacey, and Sheena were considered the four most famous ladies on their campus. Even so, their fame did not change them as they remained kind and friendly towards everyone.

"Oh, bat curious ka na ngayon? Di mo nga ako pinansin sa chat kahapon after ko dine-cline yung invitation mo for gala."

"Yun, si tampo pala 'tong si Stacey eh."

"Manahimik ka Sheena Mae!"

"Kay ate Aiah ka lang pala titiklop ha, natimbog ka na namin Staku."

Maloi and Sheena laughed and highfived each other after successfully pissing off the princess of the group. Napatawa na lang din si Aiah na nanonood sa kanilang tatlo. It was like watching an Ate with her tatlong mga makulit na bunso.

"Seriously tho, babawi ako girls, you know me naman."

"Paano kung samahan na lang namin kayo ni tita, ate Aiah?"

Aiah was surprised at Sheena's suggestion. She hasn't thought about it yet, and hindi nya din napagpaalam sa Mom nya. But she figured out na malalaman din naman nila kung ano talaga ang importanteng lakad nya ngayon, kaya she decided that the suggestion was acceptable.

"Okay, sama na lang kayo saken, Manong will fetch me naman using our van so may big space tayo sa likod."

"YAAAYY"

The girls cheered and hugged their Ate, whereas Aiah only laughed at her fave girls, her heart filled with warmth. And so, sabay silang tatlo na naglakad palabas ng gate. Before they completely got out, Aiah gave them a reminder that left them all confused.

"I hope you guys won't be surprised sa malalaman nyo ngayon — just a heads up, this is a serious lakad. I'll share the details lang mamaya."

Meanwhile....

"Ianne, what's wrong?"

"Huh? Nothing, mikhs."

"Yeah, your shaking leg says otherwise."

Indeed, kanina pa nagba-bounce ang legs ng matangkad na babae, it was obvious that she was anxious and nervous. Her friends can see right through her. Mikha, Colet, Gwen, and Jhoanna shared a knowing look.

"And don't tell me sa lamig lang yan, you don't get cold easily, Ate Ianne."

"Just... I'm just nervous, Jho..."

Ian honestly said as she stared outside the window. They're currently inside the plane, waiting for their arrival. They were riding the Arceta's private plane, so it was only the five of them as the passengers.

"Hey, calm down ate Ianne, we're here with you"

It was Gwen who spoke, the one who rarely shows her soft side, giving a warm and understanding smile towards the eldest among them. They all know that underneath Marianne's cold exterior is a very sensitive and soft heart.

"Thanks, Gwenny.."

Colet, who was sitting beside Ianne, held her hand and gently squeezed it. Ian wasn't one for physical touches, but with the people she loves and is comfortable with, she doesn't mind. The girls smiled and just started talking about another topic that eased down the tension.

Philippines huh... I'm finally going back. I can't wait to see my Mom and that twin of mine.

As per this post, I am doing a "reasons I love __" series in which I talk about why I love my WIPs and characters. I'm taking my OC page   and using that as my guide for what order to write about characters. I   skipped the rp/OHS characters for now, though, since I talk about them the most.

Here is what I love about Betty:

He has a “lady’s name” for a nickname and doesn’t even bat a lash over it

his name means liar/deceiver in German, which is a nod toward the fact that he shapeshifts in order to catch his prey

Um... man with long white hair? Fuck yes?

His gorgeous eyes and utter love for green

reserved men are just sexy, okay? So sue me

Hmm... time continuity issues here... he wakes up at 7 and then takes a shower... and gets a message while in the shower at 2:35pm (hail eris!)... unless he wakes up at night. that's it. phew, saved.

not being understood by parents... a theme i was working through at the time.

Getting a toweled butt here. Wonder if this comic is really about butts. Probably.

inking done for a page for the story that's going into ALL QUEER LOVE No. 1, my queer cosplay romance comic! not sure which page yet, as I'm creating this comic in the "Mighty Marvel Manter" by drawing the panels and then filling in the script later. I have the basic beats for the 8-12 page story in my head and am searching the endless stack of public domain romance comics for layouts that will either help move the narrative along or at the very least, be really fun to draw.

i've also marked where the lettering will go, which i'll definitely be doing thru Illustrator bc i'm on a bit of a personal deadline to get the comic inked and lettered and printed by the beginning of December. I'm just excited that i'm drawing narrative pages again, first time in about two years!

Not enough hot rods in comics or in life. Not enough stories about free-spirited lesbian couples riding around in hot rods. Thelma and Louise shouldn't be our only point of reference for this vibe bc we deserve these stories without trauma or tragic endings. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me.

Woo-Hoo! More Robyn Jr. butt! Sexy-somber-shower-scene scores!

You can see that I didn't bother to erase the pencils... a pattern that exists to this day. I dunno, I think it's neat sometimes to see the progression of a piece by leaving in the structural work. A note on my lettering: I eventually learned that keeping all the letters uppercase makes for more consistent readability... at least for me.

Looking back, I guess what also suffered in this comic was the lack of anything really happening. It was a fun exploration at the time, and neat to draw Robyn Jr. butt... however in terms of story, i feel this kind of pacing would work only if i was doing a much longer narrative than 18 pages.

Advancing from my last story, I decided to go with a 'cleaner' style by penciling the pages (save for two, which I'll get to) before inking. Also, I began using a brush and washes to add more atmosphere to the background.

Yep, it's an entire page where the only thing that happens is an alarm clock going off! Because... comics! that's why!

So after what I felt was pretty spectacular success of Bat-Maloy: What's Left of BoB KANE, I decided to follow up pretty quickly with another Bat-Maloy  story entitled 'Partners'. It was to be a four-part story that would begin to explore in more serious tones the lives and relationships of the kooky-costumed protagonists. My thoughts lead me to construct them as less than heroes and more like people who just liked to dress up like them, engaging in romantic trysts and more human melodrama.  However, the story never continued on past this first story as it quickly fell into a sounding box for my own feelings of engaging in a homosexual relationship, which I had no real experience with. It was met with mild reviews from my peers who had grown accustomed to the sloppy-randomness of the previous story.

Some elements were salvaged and I've continued to develop the characters and their world into a narrative which I hope to put to paper soon enough. 

This image was actually drawn a couple years later, but since I can't find the original cover, it serves well for the tone of this comic.

Before continuing on to the next story, I'm posting the artwork done by legendary Batman artist and all around great guy, Norm Breyfogle, for the collected version of What's Left of BoB KANE. He was so enamored by my story that when I commissioned him to do a drawing for my book, he decided to emulate my style!! Even going as far as signing them 'Rv. Norm Breyfogle'! Whatta guy!

Other artist who I was able to commission work for the book for include Howard Cruse, Alex Robinson, and Jim Mahfood!

Truly one of my favorite moments of being a comic artist so far!
