WIPtober 9: Twin RVR AU

Not so much a WIP as a thought experiment with a few doodles. Just my RVR Spicyhoney family if they ended up having twins instead! 

Flapjack and Waffle are identical twins whose magic color is only a shade off from the other, and they are very difficult to tell apart, especially because edge likes to dress them alike and Stretch does not lol.

Flapjack and Waffle are both clingy and needy, and have somehow completely mastered and failed at sharing. They need the same level of attention from the same parent at the same time or the 'neglected' twin will cry. Their parents can't just pick one of them up. And once they're held, they don't want to be put down like ever. Edge and Stretch have perfected the synchronized twin pick up. The twins are very mischievous- each other’s best friend but also very jealous of the other. Their parents are 8x more exhausted in this AU lol

An AU where everyone in Supernatural works at NASA (excluding seasons after it was written, of course), Cas is a one hell of a sass king and awkward is his middle name, Dean is cocky confident while still being a mix of gruff and adorable, and everyone else is perfectly in-character that no matter what they’re doing I can’t help but smile.

Ah, this one.  SO.  AHEM.  This is the first fic I read that had multiple chapters and the first one I pulled an all-nighter for.  Fun fact: the next morning I had to drive 3 1/2 hours home from visiting a friend (who got me into reading spn fic and spn overall in the first place).  It was worth it.  I don’t know if this is one of my top favourites due to how it was one of my firsts, but this will always be an amazing fic to me.  The writing is great, the characters are so in-character and are given jobs that fit so perfectly, just, YES.  It’s in Castiel’s POV with occasional chapters of Dean’s POV that the author gifted us with.

You don’t have to understand anything about the inner-workings of NASA to read this, just be ready for plenty of awkwardness, sass, love-to-hate characters, angst, laughs, and overall a good time.

Bababa-“ Pancake waved their arms, reaching for another piece of onion as some chewed up mush dribbled onto their bib. “Weirdo.” Red told them affectionately, trying very hard not to smile as they held their hand out. He cut out another piece of onion anyway, wrinkling his nose in distaste as Pancake crammed it into their mouth. “Stinky weirdo.” “Doh!” They echoed back, slapping at their tray and reaching for another piece of onion. This kid loved to eat, huh? Took after their Papa in that regard. “Castellar!” Blue called from the hallway, coming into the kitchen with a basketful of clean clothes. “Look! You have some more clean clothes! Do you need another change?” It wasn’t all Pancake’s stuff, but they sure went through clothes quickly. Why did they ooze so much slime? “Stinky, gooey weirdo,” Red gave them a multi-layered chunk of onion, watching dispassionately as they crushed it into several pieces on their tray. Pancake then proceeded to scoop the various pieces into their mouth, chewing noisily. “They are not! You’re just a messy eater!” Blue sighed fondly, leaning over Red’s shoulder to gently wipe at the babybone’s face. “Food is supposed to go in your mouth, baby.” “Buhbuh!” Pancake repeated loudly, grabbing onto the rag and trying to tug it into their mouth. “Buhbuhbuh!” “Pancake, no- that’s not for eating-“ Red allowed himself to enjoy this domestic peace- Blue a warm weight against his back, casual and comfortable and familiar. Pancake squealing with laughter in front of him, happy and carefree and loving. This was about as perfect as it could ever get, and his soul swelled with affection. “Pancake, no-” “Pahpah! Buhhhh!” Too bad this was a little too soft and idyllic. Someone had to stay hard and rough, for all their sakes. He’d be damned if he’d let Pancake develop the same edges and breaks as their Daddy. “Oh!” Red came back to himself with a start as Blue smushed their cheeks together in an excited hug. “Red! Didn’t that almost sound like Papa?! They’re so close to their first word!” The other skeleton’s eyelights were literal stars, staring at the baby bones with adoration that made him feel all sorts of funny. 

“Do you think that’ll be their first word?”

 Like he wanted to cram the rest of onion into Blue’s mouth to get the feeling to stop. “Are you going to say Papa, baby bones? Pa-“ So he did.

“BLERGHAH-“ Blue pushed him away hard enough Red barely caught himself, dashing to the sink to spit out the onion and pick the pieces out from his teeth. Pancake, still a Fell at heart, laughed in delight. 

“Attaboy,” Red told them delightedly, clapping them on the back hard enough the babybones started coughing, “Now let’s learn ya some real good words.” “Red!” Blue was fast, but not fast enough. “Fuck!” He was tackled to the floor hard enough he saw stars, Blue’s hands on his mouth in a more familiar gesture. “Uck!” Pancake echoed back, squealing in delight at the stricken look Blue gave them. “If Edge doesn’t kill you, I will!” “Uck!” The babybones kicked at their tray, bouncing animatedly, “Uck! Uck!”

I'm getting weirdly invested in Supernatural and Destiel. Do you have any must-see fanarts or must-read fanfics for someone who hasn't watched a single episode in their life and wants to get into it? :D and if you don't mind me asking, what are your favourite Destiel tropes?

Hello! And hah, the noise got to you, did it? Unfortunately “must-see/read” is really difficult for me to narrow down in a juggernaut fandom that is twelve years old (counting from Cas’ introduction), no matter that I’d stopped gorging on the fic quite a few years ago and I can’t offer anything very new-ish. The pairing itself has changed dynamic and Cas’ characterisation altered over the years, too, so depending on when the fic was written, there can a be wide range on the types of stories being told.

Personally, I was into them because of the deliciousness of a human who thinks himself simple and “just the muscle” somehow emotionally connecting to an angel, a literal cosmic being who has been alive for millions of years and seen so much. It’s a culture clash on multiple levels, with both of them changing each other profoundly. So I tended to gravitate to fics that highlight that difference between them, like by having Dean teaching Cas about humanity, and Cas being intensely devoted to Dean in ways that Dean cannot wrap his head around. Other tropes that are also great: pining, wingfic, spicy religious flavouring (more during the Apocalypse era), epic love gestures.

AU. Dean and Castiel work at NASA (but not as astronauts) and have to work together on a project. I don’t remember a lot of it because I read the whole thing on a 2 hour drive to visit a college junior year of high school and haven’t read it since, but I remember it has a fair helping of bitchy Cas (which I love) and is overall a great read.

Four Letter Word for Intercourse by bendingsignpost

AU. I just read this yesterday (and all of the sequels today), inspired by the party going on over at @antifacas‘s inbox. Note that it’s super explicit and like, at least half porn if not more (yet, surprisingly very slow burn.) Deals with mental health stuff a fair bit, so be warned. Dean is 32 and a college freshman, very newly realized bisexual, and is enamoured with both his study buddy, Castiel the gender studies professor, and “Jimmy,” the guy he talks to every week on a phone sex hotline. This also has BDSM themes, so be aware of that (specifically, Dean starts exploring his submissive side with “Jimmy”.)

Canon-verse. Sort of post-canon, I guess--they all save the world, and instead of coming back to the bunker, Cas goes off on his own. Dean doesn’t really handle it well. Lots of not-saying-things, Meaningful Eye Contact, pining, etc. A fair bit shorter than the last two, only about 20k words.

AU. Dean is a social worker, Cas is a pediatric surgeon. They’re kind of best friends, kind of not at all, then when Dean is freaking out about going back home for Sam’s wedding, Cas offers to come with. Really sweet, I really loved the dynamic between the boys here. Also some nice family dynamics and development there.

Canon-verse. This is a super short one, just over 1k words, but it’s really great, very poetic; I love pretty much all of entanglednow’s stuff. Dean temporarily has the ability to read minds, but he can’t read Cas’s.

Living in Agony by ChasingRabbits

AU. this one. Dean and Castiel hook up in a bar bathroom one night despite Dean’s insistence that he’s straight. The next morning, they find out that Castiel is the new history teacher at the school where Dean is a gym teacher. Awkward fuckbuddies-to-lovers, with no small amount of angst (but a very happy ending, I don’t do non-happy endings, I’m too Soft.) Both Charlie and Gabriel are in this one and it’s really fun! Once again, mental health stuff abound; Dean has pretty severe depression that he’s not great about dealing with healthily at first. Really, really, really amazing.

No Kingdom To Come by domesticadventures

canon-verse! Set during quarantine, Dean suggests he and Cas should start sleeping together to pass the time. Cas has a greenhouse. Miscommunication abound with a happy ending.

Russian to the Alter by MalMuses

AU. Gabriel asks Dean to enter into a green-card marriage with his brother, Castiel, who lives in Russia and writes kinky gay erotica, but doesn’t feel safe there anymore. It’s meant to be platonic, and just until Castiel is able to remain in the country legally, but--surprise, surprise--it doesn’t stay platonic for long! Also, Dean is a baker.

Canon-verse; post-canon. Once the dust settles, Dean and Cas finally are able to try and figure out what they are to each other when the world isn’t like actively ending. Cas gardens again and they get chickens. Domestic slow-burn, really great.

Empty Spaces by schmerzling

AU. This one HURTS, but it’s beautiful. Very angsty, but a hopeful ending. Dean is taking care of a dying John and goes for runs in the mornings, which is how he encounters Cas, who runs at the same time. Very very heavy mental health warnings on this one; Dean is anorexic and severely depressed -- the fic is also almost too well-written in that the atmosphere is so vivid it got me feeling a little depressed, so be warned. Castiel is autistic, Gabriel features. Really gorgeous story.

Canon-verse. Fake relationship! Claire! I love the intense conversations and like, extreme romantic tension going on in this one. I can’t even describe it, it’s incredible, go read it immediately. And also go read everything else by this author.

post-canon. Cas and Dean are living together platonically, when Cas asks Dean to marry him and Dean can’t think of a reason to say no. One of the unique things about this fic that I loved was Cas’s just, like, absolute, simple comfort with his feelings for Dean. He doesn’t try to hide them at all, they’re just there. Slowly, Dean realizes that he’s maybe not that straight and his relationship with Cas is maybe not that platonic.

The Catboy Valois AU

This one is a little cursed, and inspired by this Totally Spies post.

This AU does contain some nsfw content, which I will place at the end of the post and mark for (it’s right after the dog pics). Once again, this was brainstormed on the GG server, back in October of 2019. Biggest contributor other than myself was @atagotiak​.

So I decided that, at some point, I need to see one of those inexplicable and very horny modern catpeople AUs.

Where a fraction of the population just happens to have cat ears and tails etc. for... minimal reason.

Tarvek def has them. Bc twink. Sticking to the tropes, you know.

All the Valois are catpeople because most of history didn't have the option of interbreeding, just coexisting. Something something sterile hybrids because chromosomes.

Andronicus Valois, Catboy King

Lucrezia was full human and Aaronev never had a chance.

"Most of history" because recently they scienced up ways to get around it, so there are catperson/human hybrids, like Gil and Zeetha (Klaus is human, Zanta is not).

Klaus is kinda glad Gil has cat ears bc this makes people automatically assume he can’t be the dad even if they realize it’s technically possible.

This means Agatha gets her boys.

The human (Lars), the hybrid (Gil), and the cat (Tarvek).

Anevka's initial robot body doesn't have the cat features just due to the fact that Tarvek was aiming for Bare Minimum, and then when he added them in later she decided she liked being able to pick when she had them.

I am morally obligated to reblog the callout art @mercurialvoid​ did for me a few years ago.

We’re not gonna talk about that, though.

SCENT MARKING

It's considered Undignified but everyone still DOES it, just... discreetly.

Agatha thinks nothing of it when Zeetha rubs their cheeks together while training and then someone looks at her funny and asks if that's her girlfriend or something.

And Agatha Realizes that she's currently got Belongs-to-Zeetha scent on her and has to scramble to explain that Zeetha kind of adopted her as a little sister because it's the closest approximation she can come up with that still has Acceptable Connotations.

I think platonic marking is a THING but mostly within families, children, and really close female friends, like holding hands. (Toxic masculinity does apply.)

And kolee-zumil is effectively family relationship.

Agatha can't SMELL the scent markings but she gets used to them.

Also like. There's probably different levels of scent marking depending on the body part. Wrists and cheeks are different.

Jagers that used to be catboys have better senses of smell, and are the ones sent to find a Heterodyne.

Agatha and Lars make out but don't go all the way because Agatha is not ready. (Meanwhile, Zeetha can literally smell how horny these dumb kids are.)

TINY BABY GILVEK FACE NUZZLES WHILE STILL ON CW:

(Imagine how much more dangerous the baby gilvek airship-exploring shenanigans would be given one is a catboy and the other is half catboy.)

Gil just kinda scent marks on literally everything/everyone. The boy is affection-starved well into adulthood. He probably purrs too. And purring is probably considered kinda undignified.

Tarvek purrs when he’s designing clothes in his head. He’s embarrassed when he realizes. Everyone thinks it’s cute tho.

Also when crafting super-complicated diabolical plans.

Purring isn’t very diabolical. So it’s embarrassing and doesn’t fit with the aesthetic at all.

It’s hard to do an evil scheme while being an image-conscious catboy.

Gil only. Sort of knows how to cat. He's not very good at it. Zulenna helped but...

Is Von Pinn a cat? Gut says yes. Though it makes it less likely she'd be mistaken for Lu as the students did, but hey! She’d appreciate that.

She probably wouldn’t know how to cat.

Or maybe she would, given we’re assuming hereditary and she was made for Andronicus... She probably knows a bit abt how to tell other people how to cat, but she doesn’t know how to cat herself.

Agatha does not realize at first that Von-Pinn is a cat-lady because her ears match her hair and every time she sees Agatha her ears go back, and the tail is hidden under the hobble dress.

She's got a faint pattern to her fur that's, on closer inspection, very much indicating she's a PANTHER.

Consider: Tarvek starts working himself up into a frenzied panic and the nearest Trusted Person starts petting him to calm him down and he like. Melts.

TBH tho, a good portion of canon Tarvek’s behaviour can already be described as “cat does something stupid and immediately after attempts to pretend he has dignity even though everyone saw the stupid thing.”

Once Tarvek calms down... Lazy Cat Time.

NECK PINCH

CH would be ecstatic that Agatha snagged two suitors, then swing around to devastated that they’re both catboys, and maybe delusional enough to attempt to cut the ears/tails off like that’d solve anything then come around to “well there’s always science” once it’s fixed.

All Valois have high necks on their outfits, at least at the back

So nobody tries to Deactivate The Cat

(One less thing for Anevka to worry about.)

Because, you know. Canon decided to cut Agatha in half to acquire an heir, so we can’t exactly say the Castle is all that sensible.

It does calm down once Agatha mentions she has Lars, though.
