This month we're reading "A duel with the vampire lord" by Elise Kova in my book club and I couldn't help but doing this bc of this dialogue:
“Your people thrive off it.”
“Do we look like we’re thriving?” he says coolly, leaning closer. I can feel angry power vibrating the air around him. “Tell me, from what you have seen, is this the mighty vampire horde you were expecting?”
I know, I know, it's not the accurate reaction but I thought of that Lisa meme. Also yes, I used Alucard's clothes for inspo (it's really similar to the cover art for the book)

"I finally did realize that destiny is like metal—seemingly unbendable until you put it under heat and pressure. You can forge it into the shape you want."

The Sevenfold Zurvan 'Zurvan has even faces, and on each face three eyes,' we read. He is a sevenfold god, and each of seven aspects of his complex nature has three facets. As Infinite Time his three aspects are infinite space, infinite wisdom, and infinite power, that is, an infinite potentiality of initiating contingent beings, whether good or evil. He is passionless and indifferent, 'unageing and deathless; he knows neither pain nor decay nor corruption; he has no rival, nor can he ever be put aside or deprived of his sovereignty in his proper sphere.' He has neither 'pleasure nor pain from the evil of Ahriman or the goodness of Ohrmazd'.
As finite Time he is primarily 'he who makes virile, he who makes excellent, and he who makes old'. Alternatively, the order of the attributes is altered and he becomes 'he who makes virile, he who makes old, and he who makes excellent'. As such he is the god of life and death, presiding over the birth, maturity, and death of the body. As Frashokar, 'he who makes excellent,' he is both the god who brings creatures to maturity and the author of the Frashkart, the 'Making Excellent' or final Rehabilitation at the end of time. When he is thought of in this role, the epithet frashokar, 'he who makes excellent' appears at the end of series.
Seen simply as Infinite Time, his aspects are finite Time, the course of fate, and the year. As Order, his aspects are the god Mithra, the Spirit of Right Order (datastan), and Fate; and as Fate itself he is also the actual decree or moment of destiny, the decisive moment at which what is fated comes to pass, and the fixed decision. On the earth he represents the social order, and he is therefore the three great social orders of priests, warriors, and husbandmen. He is also the author of good and evil: he is the Cherisher, the Adversary, and he who has command of both. Thus he sevenfold Zurvan's functions can be tabulated thus:
ZURVAN Being: (Time), Space, Wisdom, Power. Becoming: He who makes virile, he who makes excellent, he who makes old. Order: Mithra, Order, Fate Time: Finite Time, the course of fate, the year. Fate: the decree, the decisive moment, the fixed decision. Good and Evil: the Cherisher, the Adversary, the One who has command of both. Social Order: priests, warriors and husbandmen
Macrocosm and Microcosm As finite space as well as finite Time Zurvan is embodied in the macrocosm, and man, the microcosm, is made in his image, the parts of man corresponding in every respect to the parts of the universe in toto. Thus, the seven constituents of the material world which themselves correspond to the seven Bounteous Immortals -fire, water, earth, metals, plants, and man- correspond to the morrow, blood, veins, sinews, bones, flesh, and hair of man. The four elements in the macrocosm correspond to the breath, blood, bile, and phlegm in man; and just as the world is controlled and kept in working order by the elements of fire and air, so is man's body controlled and directed by his Fravashi or external soul working in close co-operation with his vital spirit. In the world this vital spirit which maintains the macrocosm as a living unit is Vay(u), the atmospheric wind, in exactly the same way as breath keeps the human body alive. In man it is the soul (ruvan) which guides the body and gives it consciousness; so too is the world guided by the world-soul, which is nothing less than the heavenly sphere. The heavenly sphere, then, is not only the body of Zurvan, but also his soul. And Zurvan is sick in soul.
Zurvan, the God of Fate He is sick in soul because he doubted; and this sickness reflects itself in the heavenly sphere, for it contains not only the twelve Signs of the Zodiac which pour out abundance on to the earth, but also the seven planets which intercept the good gifts of the Zodiac and divert them to people and purposes for which they were never intended. Thus, the embodied Zurvan is the god of fate, and because he himself must work out his own salvation in finite time and gradually wear away the residue of his sin which is still very much with him, he is willy-nilly the dispenser of good and bad fortune alike. As macrocosm he is subject, like the microcosm, man, to the depredations of Ahriman; and as man is afflicted by disease and sin, so is the poise of the macrocosm upset by the disorderly motion of the planets; and this disorderly motion accounts for the evil lot on earth that man is sometimes fated to endure.
'All the welfare and adversity that come to man and other creatures come through the Seven and the Twelve. The twelve Signs of the Zodiac... are the twelve commanders on the side of Ohrmazd; and the seven planets are said to be the seven commanders on the side of Ahriman. And the seven planets oppress all creation and deliver it over to death and all manner of evil: for the twelve Signs of the Zodiac and the seven planets rule the fate of the world and direct it'.
The orderly functioning of the universe is the responsibility of the Zodiac just as man's ordered moral activity is directed by the Good Mind indwelling him. The planets, on the other hand, originated by Ahriman are likened to the Evil Mind in man; and just as the Evil Mind seeks to drive a wedge between man's intellect and will, so do the planets seek to bring about disarray in the heavenly sphere, the soul of the world.
The Zoroastrian turned the planets into demons because their irregular motion could not be explained. When, however, they came into contact with the Babylonians, they learnt the 'science' of astrology, and this attributed different influences to the different planets. Some, like Saturn and Mars, were inauspicious; others, like Jupiter and Venus, auspicious. How was this to be explained? In the Zoroastrian scheme of things the planets who accompany Ahriman in his invasion of the material world, each choose a specific constellation as their opponent. Thus Jupiter is matched against the Great Bear, Venus against Scorpio. In their case their opponents prove more than a match for them and force them to do whatever they wish. The reverse, however, is true of Saturn and Mars, who, proving stronger than their chosen opponents, are free to do more or less what they like.
The God of Death Zurvan, as finite Time and Fate, is neither good nor evil: he is 'dyed' with both. Being the embodied universe he is the locus of good and evil, just as man's body is the locus of sin as well as of virtue. As a deity, rather than as an abstract concept, Zurvan, being also fate, is primarily thought of as the god of death, and as such he is:
'mightier than both creations -the creation of Ohrmazd and that of the Destructive Spirit. Time understands action and other. Time understands more than those who understand. Time is better informed than the well-informed; for through Time must the decision be made. By Time are houses overturned -doom is through Time -and things graven shattered. From him to single mortal man escapes, not though he fly above, not though he dig a pit below and settle therein, not though he hide beneath a well of cold waters.'
Time is synonymous with death; and even in the Avesta the paths of Time are the paths the soul must traverse on its way from death to the Judgement.
The inevitability of death and man's helplessness before it is a constant undercurrent of much that is greatest in Persian poetry, and this thoroughly pessimistic and almost morbid strand in the Persian national tradition must ultimately go back to that Zurvanite fatalism over which Aturpat, son of Mahraspand, gained his all too ephermal victory. Typical of this dreary preoccupation with a banal subject is this: 'As to him whose eye Time has sewn up, his back is seized upon and will never rise again; pain comes upon his heart so that it beats no more; his hand is broken so that it grows no more; and his foot is broken so that it walks no more. The stars come upon him, and he goes not out another time; fate comes upon him and he cannot drive it off.'
The God of the Resurrection Death is the lot of all men, and in this respect the fate of the macrocosm is no different from that of the microcosm. The world is born, grows old, and dies; but the death of the world is only the prelude to its transfiguration at the Frashkart, the 'Making Excellent' of existence when finite Time rejoins the Infinite, and when the Final Body, which is the material creation renewed, sets in. Zurvanism, so long as it remains within its Zoroastrian context, is no more pessimistic than is orthodoxy, for Zurvan is not only Zaroqar, 'he who brings old age', but also Frashoqar, 'he who brings about the Frashkart' itself. The 'fatalists', then, against whom Aturpat strove, were not the same as the 'classical' Zurvanites who saw in Zurvan the father of Ohrmazd and Ahriman.

Some original characters for a project that's been eating away at my brain cells lately. Might fuck around and write a book about them.
Left to right; Audrey Beaughin, Elijah Faks, and Rainier Ward.
I'm calling the project Unthreaded. It's set in a world that is high-magic 1900-1920 America/Europe inspired, with a lot of the conveniences of the time period centered around magic.
The world of Ruvan is covered in magical wells called Seams that people can draw magic from. Most people develop an affinity, and physically adapt, to certain types of magic, like Audrey's ability to cast spells related to tracking, and Rainier's ability to obfuscate himself from any sense. Then some people, like Elijah, have a greater potential for magic that leads to a wider range of abilities and has the draw back of not adapting physically to anything.
A lot of power, but with drawbacks.
Elijah was researching the true magical potential of people like him for someone he later discovered was dangerous. So, he erased all traces of his research from existence, including from his memory, and Audrey's. This leads to them falling out, or breaking up, rather. But, when Audrey stumbles upon a clue left behind, they have to work together, with the assassin Rainier, and race to recover the research and figure out whether they need to destroy it once again, or if they can use it to oust those in power that would use it to declare war on neighboring kingdoms and claim their Seams.
Elijah is a bi/ace librarian, and a horse girl. He favors telekinetic magic and views casting like sewing, or knitting, since his mother is a seamstress (hence the sewing theme I'm going for).
Audrey is a bi hunter with dark, slitted eyes that open wide when she casts spells related to tracking. Specifically she can make herself able to see magic, either on a person like an aura, or on the land, where people/ animals have left marks in it.
Rainier is a bi assassin who can cast spells on himself or others to make them invisible/silent/scentless/tasteless/and even dampen their physical presence. His skin goes from a natural dark to almost pure black along his extremities and his palms and feet are soft and sensitive.
I am open to questions or general interaction with this project. Anything to keep myself motivated. Feel free to send asks!

It was a dead thing. At least that’s what it seemed like. Sullivan stopped in her tracks and watched, lips pressed tight as the odd display drifted idly past.
Hanging limp mid-air like a body floating at the top of The Red, a humanoid—two arms, two legs and a head curtained out by long strings of greasy hair—meandered past, guided by a collar around its neck attached to a chain. Its arms and legs hung downward, the tips of their fingers and toes lightly brushed the surface of the rust red sand dunes.
Holding onto the chain was a little Ruvan child taking slow but purposeful steps across the desert.

DUEL WITH THE VAMPIRE LORD REVIEW
Merhaba dostlar!
Fakat her şey Kanlı ay gecesinde sarpasarıyor. Vampir Lordu Floriane'i sarayına götürüyor.
<3
Hello friends! Today, I want to talk about Duel With the Vampire Lord by Elise Kova! This was the first book I read in 2025.
First, I had already read A Deal with the Elf King, but I was very busy at that time, so I read it in small parts. I understood the world, but I could not fully feel inside the story. I also could not connect with the characters as much as I wanted. The series felt incomplete to me.
A few months ago, I saw Duel With the Vampire Lord and Dance With the Fae Prince. After some research, I learned that these books can be read separately. The stories take place in different parts of the same world with different characters. So, I thought, this is a great chance! and started reading…✨
You don’t know me very well yet, but I love books, series, and movies about werewolves, vampires, and witches. 🥱 After reading The Serpent and the Night’s Wings from Carissa Broadbent, I was hoping that reading a book with vampires in it. So we can say that I missed vampire theme. 🧛🏻♀️🤌🏻👀 The third book’s story was more interesting to me than the second one. I also thought that maybe I did not like the first book because of my own situation at that time. And I was right…😏
The Story:
The book takes place in a village called Hunter’s Hamlet. The people here are hunters, and they must protect themselves from vampires.
Our main character, Floriane, is called the Iron Maiden. She makes weapons and hunting clothes for the hunters. She is not allowed to marry, and she cannot even choose her own husband. She and her mother must focus only on making weapons for the hunters. This kept like this for centuries so, she had to follow the rules.
But everything changes on Blood Moon Night. Floriane’s twin brother is one of the best hunters in the village. Before the Blood Moon, he tells her his plan: to kill the Vampire Lord.
That night, the Vampire Lord and his army will pass through the Shadows, so everyone prepares for war.
Floriane does not want to lose her only twin, so she breaks the rules and follows her brother to the battlefield. In Hunter’s Hamlet, everyone has a duty, and the Iron Maiden must stay in her place. She cannot go to war.
But when Floriane arrives, she sees her brother dying—killed by the Vampire Lord, Ruvan.
Floriane and Ruvan face each other. She thinks he will kill her too. But this does not happen. Instead, the Vampire Lord takes her to his castle.
There, Floriane learns new things about vampires—things that are completely different from what she believed. And so, our exciting story begins!
🌼
In Duel With the Vampire Lord, I finally connected with the story and characters.
Floriane is one of the strongest characters I have ever read. She is smart and logical.
The chemistry between her and Ruvan builds slowly, and you can feel it. I really enjoyed their relationship. Their trust for each other grows step by step. The way they understand each other is very beautiful.
The character relationships were one of my favorite parts of this book. Elise Kova wrote the enemies-to-lovers theme better than I expected.🔥
This book changed my opinion about her writing. The story has many details, so sometimes you have to think a lot, and it can be tiring. But in my opinion, it is worth it. The plot is very rich, and I felt like I was watching a movie.
The book is long, but don’t worry! It is more engaging than I expected, and it helped me forget my negative thoughts about the first book. I am happy that I gave Elise Kova another chance! ✨
My rating: 7.5/10 🧛🏻
I hope my review was helpful…💛 Take care and goodbye!
With love, Daisy<3

The Creation of the Elandrie of Vosnua
Water fell from nowhere into nothing but always falling. From the falling water emerged Ruven of the Waters who decreed water should fall from somewhere to somewhere. They danced around the falling water four times and created the land.
Ruven cupped the water in their hands and sprinkled it on the land. As they danced with the falling water, Irhal of the Land emerged, son of Ruven. Irhal joined the dance but threw his water into the empty above until Shalae of the Sky was born.
Ruven, Irhal, and Shalae bathed in the falling water together and danced until the pool teemed with plants and fish. Ruven kissed the surface of the pool, birthing Metray who sank deep under the water and Baeray who rushed onto the land. Where the water dripped from her feet, plants and animals were born and roamed the earth.
But the plants stood still or only swayed in the water. And the animals moved beautifully but not with the purpose of the gods. And they wished to see other creatures dance as they did and join them in their revels. So Irhal asked Baeray to join with him in the creation of something that would.
They shaped the wet earth of the shore into long limbs that would move like the gods, and they sprinkled water from the pool onto it. Then they kissed each other and then the earth until it erupted in form and movement. The Elandrie came into the world dancing from out of the earth.
Ruven and Metray stayed in the falling water and the pool and paid little heed to the Elandrie. Shalae was curious about them but retreated into the sky to avoid seeing her father with Baeray. Shalae looks down on the Elandrie from the sky, her left hand constant in front of her shining bright yellow for all life to see. With her right, she hides her face with a cold white light to block out the sight of her father and step-mother, but inconstant so she might see him again.
So the Elandrie dance under the sun to thank Shalae of the Sky for the light and in the forest to thank Irhal and Baeray for their lives. But they dance beside the falling water to thank Ruvan for creating all else.
