VON HAUNT ESTATE - MAXIS-MATCH CC BUILD
Formerly the residence of Lord and Lady Shallot, the Von Haunt Estate has undergone restoration and now welcomes the public as a museum. Inside, visitors can explore the personal art collection and belongings of the estate's previous lords. However, a word of caution: the lords were known to be quite possessive of their possessions, and there are occasional rumors of their ghosts wandering the grounds... It's likely nothing to worry about. If you want to check out the construction progress, watch the YouTube video linked below.

When The World Is Free: Chapter 6 - J'ai Dansé Avec L'Amour
MASTERPOST PREV | NEXT
Pairing: Benedict Bridgerton x fem!reader, WW2 AU.
Warnings: none, really… some kissing and some awkwardness
Word Count: 2.4k
Author’s Note: Multi-chapter fic based on a request by the lovely @amillcitygirl! Please see the masterpost for a synopsis of this story. Well, this isn't the wedding yet, but it's them both dealing, rather awkwardly, with the idea of getting married as they grapple with their attraction to each other. The wedding will be the next chapter. Thanks to @colettebronte for beta reading. Enjoy!
Montivilliers (just outside Le Havre), September 1939
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Eloise whispers into the inky blackness.
“What other choice do I have?” you whisper back, unwilling to admit how weirdly calm you are about the scheme.
You are lying in the spare room of Solène’s sister, Marie and her husband Jérôme’s cottage. Sharing the compact double bed, shoulders touching as you converse quietly. It must be after 2am. Benedict chivalrously insisted on taking the sofa downstairs despite being stuck on yours in Paris for the last few days.
“I still say we should find some forgers,” Eloise opines; you can hear the shrug in her tone. “You shouldn’t have to go through with a marriage to my brother just to escape.”
“It’s fine,” you placate, waving your hand dismissively, although likely unseen.
“What about Stanley?”
“I’m sure he will understand when I can eventually get home,” you fib.
There is a brief lapse into silence, and outside somewhere, an owl hoots.
“You know we may have to bribe someone to do this regardless, don’t you?”
“What are you talking about?” you frown, turning your head to face her.
“There are rules about residency for French civil marriages, and you’ll need identification neither of you have with you, like birth certificates,” Eloise points out.
“Ohhh…” you stutter, feeling sheepish you didn’t even know that.
“Although… Jérôme is the mayor of Montivilliers…” Eloise offers thoughtfully. “And he is sleeping just through that wall…”
“He can marry us?” You’re unable to hide the excitement in your voice.
“If he’s willing to overlook a few things… yes… he could marry you in the Town Hall.”
Internally, you are celebrating even as you try to temper your excitement.
“Then, for my sake, let’s hope he is,” you answer, attempting to sound gravely concerned.
Eloise hums sleepily in response, and it’s your last words before she drops off. You lay awake for what seems like hours, staring up at the beam of moonglow on the whitewashed ceiling. A myriad fluttering in your stomach—a cautious optimism that this could work, a strange excitement at the thought of marrying Benedict, and a vague dread that your family could still be upset if it all works out.
—
A light, dewy mist lingers in the garden outside the kitchen window as you sip coffee the following morning. A moment of solitary contemplation that has you considering a telegram to your family but deciding against it. Until you know if you can get out of the country, it seems pointless to make them more concerned than they already are.
“Dress shopping?” Eloise asks over a yawn as she plops into the seat next to you at the rustic wooden table in the kitchen, breaking your reverie. “For the wedding…” she adds when you frown nonplussed.
Oh.
“I, umm, was just going to use one I already have, to be honest. That off-white silk tea dress?”
Eloise cocks her head to the side in thought. “Hmm, that might just work - that can be your something old. I have a little faux fur stole you can wear to dress it up - something borrowed. I know you have some powder blue underwear, so we only need something new!”
“You believe in that stuff?” you frown, taking a sip. It seems so anachronistic for her. You also decide not to ask how she knows about your underwear.
“I know it's not…” she leans in, likely worried about prying ears, mouthing the word ‘real’, before continuing at her regular volume, “...but best not to tempt fate,” she raises a pointed eyebrow, silently reminding you of what is at stake.
“Good point,” you concede as she gets up to grab some fruit.
“Your humble sage at your service,” she jests, taking a comedic bow.
“But we still have to ask Jérôme…”
“Ask me what?” a genial, heavily accented booming voice rings out from the doorway.
“This one and my brother have gone and fallen in love,” Eloise explains, rolling her eyes. “The soppy idiots want to get married in France as soon as possible. I don't suppose you could help, could you? It would be their dream come true and so very romantic, non?”
She appears to be piling on the theatrics, but you see that winning smile, the one she deploys whenever she manipulates an unsuspecting man to get her way. Sometimes, you swear it is almost too easy to navigate the world as an attractive Bridgerton.
“Pour vous, ma petit chou-fleur, peut-être…” he responds, an avuncular glint in his eye. It is evident from this interaction and the previous evening when you arrived that Marie and Jérôme have spent time with Eloise, likely in Paris with Solène.
“Merci Jérôme!” she celebrates, kissing his cheek as he affectionately chuckles. “Demain?” she adds cheekily.
“Mon dieu Eloise,” he exclaims as he grabs a croissant, “C'est très bientôt!”
You try to listen in as they rapid-fire converse in French, but you only follow along with every few words, maybe something about paperwork, but really, you are not sure. It mostly seems fond exasperation on Jérôme’s part, so you sit hopeful, just as Benedict wanders in.
“Ah, the other love bird!” Eloise cuts away from their chat. “I know you want to get married so quickly, but please do not make out too much in front of Jérôme!” she titters pointedly at Benedict, her eyes cutting from him to you.
Benedict seems to cotton on very quickly, and you startle as he leans down and brushes a featherlight kiss onto your cheek.
“Bon matin, mon amour,” he rumbles, his minty breath warm, causing goosebumps to break out over your arms.
“Morning, my love,” you whisper back stutteringly, the words almost tacky on your tongue, your mouth suddenly so dry. Your eyes meet, and it's the closest you have ever been, captivated by the tiny flecks of colour in his iris. He doesn't look away, and you seem unable.
“Oh oui, je le vois, l'amour vrai… ” Jérôme mutters quietly across the room. “I will see what I can do,” he offers in English as you finally tear your eyes away, him giving you a nod before he takes his leave.
“Well done!” Eloise enthuses quietly with a big thumbs-up gesture once Jérôme has left the room. “Really convincing!” she adds before twirling out of the room with an apple jammed in her mouth.
“Sorry about that…” Benedict offers, a little flustered.
“No, please…” you can't think of anything else to say, almost tongue-tied as you replay his kiss on your cheek like a looping projector reel, wanting to add ‘do it again’, a tingle still lingering on your skin.
There are a few beats of awkward silence where he seems on the precipice of saying something, but you are almost afraid to hear it, as if worried he wants to conjure an excuse to back out.
“I…I need to buy my something new!” you exclaim, jumping up and scurrying out of the room, leaving Benedict mildly perplexed about what that might even mean.
—
After a successful trip into Le Havre, where you and Eloise found your ‘something new’ - a pair of ivory Mary Janes that will complete your outfit - the day ends with Jérôme and Marie taking you all to a local restaurant. A delicious meal of many courses with flowing carafes of wine under the bright red canopy outside. It turns into one of those late nights with convivial conversation and bonding with strangers.
A band strikes up in the cobbled square, and after a few numbers, Jérôme drags Marie up to dance as the three of you cheer.
“Les tourtereaux!!” Jérôme exclaims after the song ends, gesturing for you and Benedict to join them on their makeshift dance floor.
“Non..non!” you protest, gesturing a no with your arms and laughing, a languid feeling in your bones from good food, drink and conversation.
But it appears he won't take no for an answer, and as Marie giggles and applauds, Jérôme marches over and grabs you both by the elbow, hauling you to your feet.
“Danse!” he commands.
You and Benedict exchange slightly nervous looks but emboldened by wine; then you gasp as a strong arm wraps around your back, and your other hand slides into his.
“Just go with it,” he breathes into your hair, and suddenly, you are spinning, the stars above you twinkling, as he leads you expertly in a swing dance.
“Mr Bridgerton, you can dance!” you exclaim in blithe amusement, clinging to him as you move together in a balletic union.
“As can you, Mrs Bridgerton!” he peels carefree.
Your heart jumps into your throat, and you lose your footing. Benedict has to grab hold and haul you back upright before you collapse onto the cobbles.
“Sorry…” he blusters, his arms still around you, “I…I wasn't thinking…”
“No, no. That will indeed be my name…” you stumble, almost as if that is only just occurring to you now. “I'm just getting used to it, that's all,” you lie, knowing that is not why you lost your footing.
He seems to accept that with a nod, and after a beat, you begin to move again, tentatively, Until the wine takes over and you are once again both giggling and dancing, his arm a strong brace around your back as you move together for many minutes, a joy fizzing in your veins.
At one point, you glance over and see Eloise with an odd expression on her face before she orders a drink from the waiter, but Benedict whips you around, and you get lost in the dance and in him. The feel of him wrapped around you at once safe and exhilarating.
“Kiss!” comes the yell from Jérôme as the song ends.
“You know, he's not going to shut up until we do it,” you raise, a little breathless from the dancing.
Without you having to say anything else, Benedict’s hands grasp around your waist, and you are lifted off the ground, taller than him. Then he tilts his head up and captures your lips with his.
Time stops.
The feeling is like an explosion and a perfect calm silence all at once. His lips don't open, but they don't need to - even this gentle kiss is a soft, sensual plushness that obliterates all your thoughts. A lingering tang of wine on his slightly dampened lips that you want to lick off, a plunge of lust in your belly that has you fighting the urge to wrap your legs around his hips and open your mouth, demanding a real kiss.
His hands slide around your back in a gentle cage as he lowers you to your feet. What upends you is the breathtaking look in his eye when he finally pulls away, pupils blown, face soft and full of yearning. You could never tire of that look.
“Get a room!” Eloise yells, and there is an uncharitable tart edge to it that breaks the spell and makes you look over at her. She appears much more inebriated than she was before.
“Is she okay?” you ask, your hands still wrapped around Benedict’s biceps, warm through his shirt sleeves.
“I think she ordered absinthe, so maybe not,” he answers, and you feel a pang of sadness as he releases his hold and gestures gentlemanly for you to walk ahead, to return to the table, the moment lost.
Half an hour later, Benedict and Jérôme are on either side of Eloise, helping her back into the cottage, much worse for wear. They get her to the sofa, where she promptly passes out and begins to snore lightly. Marie covers her in a blanket, and you realise it's unlikely you will be able to move her tonight.
“Well, you two will have to share the bed. But do not worry, I shall not tell your families,” Jérôme winks. “I can’t say Marie and I were saints before our marriage,” he adds with a tap on his nose and an uproarious chuckle.
Your eyes dart to Benedict and his to you. Panic, excitement, and apprehension all bubbling up inside—a volcanic eruption in your gut. You trust him not to take advantage; it’s yourself you don't trust.
Jérôme wraps an arm around both of your shoulders, red wine heavy on his breath “Oui, I will marry you tomorrow, mes amis. I can overlook some rules for a true love like yours.”
With that, he takes his leave, with you and Benedict left looking uncomfortably at each other, unsure if you should celebrate. That feeling remains as he suggests you go up first and get ready for bed, and once you are nervously tucked under the covers as he enters from the bathroom, those broad shoulders framed with a white t-shirt and the same bottoms he wore in Paris when you watched him sleep.
“I really wish I'd packed a proper pyjama set,” he sighs ruefully as he approaches the other side of the bed and slips under the covers, seemingly arranging himself right at the far side. “I'm also so sorry about Eloise landing us in this situation. I can't believe she was that irresponsible,” he adds with his back turned but an unmistakable tinge of irritation in his tone.
Even then, it’s a small bed, and you can feel his body heat radiating under the covers.
“You don't have to cling to the edge,” you offer hesitantly, “we are to be married after all…”
The last words are a whisper that sounds almost wounded, and he twists over, a look of surprise crowding his features.
“I am merely being respectful...” he replies cautiously.
“I know…” it's barely audible, and you can’t look at him.
The overwhelming awkwardness makes your chest ache, your hands wringing together nervously under the covers. What feels like mere moments ago, you were swept into his arms, and he was kissing you as if your lives depended upon it. And now this… the juxtaposition of reality and the fairytale you both act so well draws a lump to your throat.
“This whole situation is so odd,” you confess quietly, unable to be anything but honest with him.
“I know… I'm so sorry it has come to this.”
You have no idea if he means tonight, the marriage or even life in general, in a war that could come to your doorstep any day.
“I don’t regret anything,” you volunteer after a beat.
“Neither do I…” his earnest whisper makes something inside you crack open, your palm itching to squeeze his hand.
Instead, you exchange soft goodnights, and you lay stock still for a long time, backs towards each other, feeling at once too close and a million miles apart.

For a very quick, but effective fix: Pasha's improv rustic pizza
Meet Pasha IV, Shipper Mom's British Shorthair spirit animal and soulmate:

This is the most lazy & gourmet being ever to grace this planet, so it's only normal to dedicate the following quick fix recipe to him (pets are never 'it' in this house, nor should they ever be - damn grammar!).
This is a freestyle recipe I invented for myself back in my first days of desperate cooking apprenticeship, in Paris. Leaving home at 18, with virtually zero food skills, I quickly realized it was not reasonable to eat every single day in town. My path to cooking began with books, fantasizing scrumptious recipes and a lengthy, persevering trial and error process. I always was a difficult, horrendously fastidious client, but now I was slowly turning into a monster, keeping my eyes peeled on cooking gestures and mannerisms, wherever I could find them.
This pizza experiment was an instant success and the moment the coin dropped: I actually could do things to and with food, that would be something more than survival. The rest is reading ahead, combining ahead and never being shy to ask around for that recipe. From taxi drivers to friends, they were all more than happy to generously indulge, all around the world.
You need whatever you have loitering around in your fridge and you aren't really sure how to recycle. I even happily, barbarically put mac & cheese or cold satay noodles (want my recipe? I poached it in Phnom Penh) on it. Tuna/corn/red onion is a sure combo and so are deli bits and bobs/corn/Vidalia onion. Cold roast beef, too. Diced ham, onion and even roasted potatoes leftovers, plus heavy cream - only in winter. Sardines (tinned), lemon/orange zest, ground pepper and perhaps a dash of coriander leaves (add herbs at the end, otherwise, they will go bitter). Fresh goat cheese, pistachio, figs (even fig jam will do) and balsamic vinegar. Sky is the limit. I also never use Mozzarella, and yes, please curse me - I always use Irish red cheddar, because this is what you are likely to find in my fridge until the end of time. And whenever you can or see fit, break an egg on top of it three to five minutes before you take it off the oven: it's called Pizza Radio and it is a local Corsican secret.
Preheat the oven at the usual temperature: 350 Fahrenheit/180 Celsius.
Unroll a store-bought pizza pastry sheet in a parchment paper lined 13x8 baking pan. Let rest while you prepare the easiest sauce in the world.
Mix Heinz ketchup, Sriracha and sweet Thai chili sauce. Should yield about a cup - proportions vary according to your own resistance to heat: one of the reasons you should taste your own concoctions and do it often. If you went overboard with the sacred Sriracha, immediately add honey or some brown sugar, until rectified. Add two Tablespoons (30 ml) of EVOO and mix well. Spread on the pizza pastry sheet with your usual brush.
I always try to use this one, but any brand will do:

4. Add the grated Cheddar, with spiral, clockwise movements (this is something I stole from a pizzaiolo in Florence, it is the only way to make sure all the surface gets evenly covered).
5. Thinly cut the onions (you know: halve them, then go ahead exactly like you would do for onion rings or quarter them and go ahead for more caramelized crunchiness, curse TPTB and cry your arse out). Add them on top. I had red onion - it is stellar with cold cuts.
6. Add whatever it is you want to garnish the pizza with. In my pic, we had thinly cut (recycled) debreceni kolbász (Debreziner) sausages and diced Prague/cooked ham (you need something more neutral to counterbalance all that heat).
7. Finish off with 150 grams/5 ounces (drained) canned sweet corn. No particular brand, but make sure it's dry before you add it on top of this.
8. Bake in a very hot oven for about 20 to 25 minutes. Take out, let breathe (5 minutes tops), cut and devour. I guarantee no leftovers.

You're welcome! We'll get to more serious things this evening, though.

PROJECTION OFthe SOUL
Home of overseas creators
Rick OWENS
FASHION DESIGNER in PARIS

Most of the furniture in the room, including the fur blankets on the sofa, was designed by Owens himself.

The office used for meetings, etc., is a stuffed monkey purchased at the Clignancourt flea market, and another one is on display in the showroom next door.
"I don't like chaos, panic, hysteria. I like more severe and discipline"
"Rather than chaos, panic, and hysteria, I like Rick Owens."
In the center is a leather sculpture by German artist Horst Egon Kalinowski.

In front of the sofa were two bronze sculptures designed by Owens himself.
A huge hall for staff meetings and meals. The tables and chairs were designed by Owens.
The walls are decorated with artwork by Scarlett Rouge, the daughter of his partner Michelle Lamy.

The toilet was designed by Owens himself, who said, "Because it's a place you use all the time, you want to pay particular attention to it."
Upon entering the building, one is overwhelmed by the large doors designed by Jean Breuvet. Apparently they were the spoils of an auction.
A sense of restraint in a tranquil space
Every season, Rick Owens presents cutting-edge designs ranging from men's and women's collections to furniture, captivating rock singers and celebrities from all over the world as his clients. His residence and showroom is located in the Invalides district on the left bank of Paris, a high-end area that is the envy of Balinese people and is surrounded by embassies. The five-story former aristocratic mansion is located right next to the Palais Bourbon, which was built by the daughter of Louis XIV and is now used as the National Assembly.
After opening the heavy entrance door, going up several steps and through yet another door, you are greeted by a large, tilted door, placed as an objet d'art, blocking the view. This is a masterpiece by Jean Prouvé, known as the genius of 20th century French architecture. The signature vertical dot design and the aluminum material used in part of the wooden board are strikingly beautiful.
On the other side of the door is a hall that is about 10 meters deep. The interior has been completely renovated, with the ceiling, walls, and floor all made of concrete. A matte metal table with a subdued sheen designed by Owens himself, hand-painted wooden chairs with a rustic feel, and head chairs are lined up in an orderly fashion. The unique "presence" created by each material gives off an overwhelming aura. "I wanted to make it long and narrow like a tunnel, with the furniture all uniform in height and low, to create a sense of luxury in a wide horizontal space," Owens himself explains of his simple and minimalist world.
The living room next door is a modern take on the Owens-style primitive era. Fur blankets, a suede sofa, and a natural wood table and chairs. A scarf with drawings of rocks, mountains, and people against a pitch black sky.
The Let Rouge mural matches the leather object by Horst Egon Kalinowski placed in the center, creating the illusion of space.
"I like words like strictness and discipline more than chaos, panic, and hysteria. I feel like I need more order the older I get. The fewer things I have, the better. I'm not interested in collecting things," says Owens, who says he works on the terrace on sunny days. The background music is a slightly sad love song sung by a female singer. During the interview, Barbra Streisand from the 1960s was playing. Having a calm daily life as a foundation is what gives him strength as a creator.
His source of inspiration is Constantin Brancusi. "Rather than designing jet planes, I want to add a little magic to everyday necessities and transform them into something beautiful. I've also designed toilets, and now I'm working on cutlery and plates." He is so particular that he transforms everything he touches into his own style, even in the corners of the house. His house, which projects a unified aesthetic sense and values, knows no bounds, saying, "I don't like to compromise." The house will continue to evolve and is worthy of being called "the perfect place to live forever."

Midnight in Paris — Peter Parker

Summary: You’re in Paris with your boyfriend Peter Parker for a school trip, and it also happens to be your one year anniversary.
Warning: cute, sweet
Black F reader
A/n : rewatching far from home and got inspired
Masterlist
You’re sitting on the hotel bed, one leg tucked under you, scrolling through your phone while your roommate snores softly on the other side of the room. The Eiffel Tower glows through the crack in the curtains—your first time in Paris, and somehow, it still doesn’t feel real. Neither does the fact that you’ve been dating Peter Parker for a whole year.
Well. Almost a year.
Tomorrow marks exactly 365 days since that ridiculously chaotic first kiss behind the Midtown science building, when he had just come back from stopping a runaway drone and you’d just failed your chem quiz. You’d both been a mess—and somehow, it worked.
Your phone buzzes in your hand.
Peter: meet me in the lobby in 20. wear something nice pls.
You stare at the message. Blink. Then read it again. He adds another a second later.
Peter: like…really nice. like pretty-dress-nice. idk just trust me ok?
You grin. Typical Peter.
Twenty minutes later, you’re gliding through the quiet hotel hallway, your dress swaying with every step. It’s orange, soft and flowing, the kind that hugs in the right places and moves like it was made to be in Paris. You pulled your butterfly locs up into a clean, messy bun—intentional and effortless, with your baby hairs laid perfectly at the edges. You felt pretty when you looked in the mirror, but the way Peter looks at you in the lobby?
Whole different level.
He’s standing near a potted plant, hair tousled, nervously fixing the collar of his button-up. He’s in slacks, which is rare. A blazer that looks slightly too big, probably borrowed. He’s chewing on the inside of his cheek, checking his phone, until he looks up and sees you.
His whole face changes.
He stares, then forgets he’s staring, then catches himself staring and looks away, cheeks going red.
“Whoa,” he breathes when you reach him. “I mean—hi. Uh. You look…you look incredible. Like—like really beautiful.”
You smile, biting your lip. “You clean up nice too, Parker.”
He opens his mouth to say something else, probably something awkward, then just offers his hand instead. You take it without a second thought.
Outside, Paris hums with life. The air is warm, buzzing with the low chatter of late-night cafés and the occasional hum of a passing Vespa. Peter doesn’t say where you’re going. He just leads you, fingers laced with yours, heart probably beating as fast as yours is.
“You’ve been acting weird all week,” you say as you walk. “Like…more Peter-weird than usual.”
“Rude,” he mutters, then smiles. “Okay, yeah. I’ve just been trying to plan this for a while. I mean, it’s our anniversary. And we’re in Europe. I wanted it to be perfect but like…everything kept going wrong. I was gonna book this rooftop thing, but it rained, then I tried to get us tickets to this exhibit and it sold out, and—” he stops himself and looks at you.
“This is what I could do.”
You squeeze his hand. “This is already perfect.”
He takes you to a little restaurant tucked between two buildings, one you wouldn’t have even noticed if he hadn’t led you to it. Candlelight flickers through the windows. Inside, the place is small, intimate. A little rustic. French jazz plays low in the background.
The host greets Peter by name, which is suspicious.
“Did you bribe someone?” you whisper as you’re led to a small table by the window.
“I may or may not have helped someone catch their runaway dog this morning,” he whispers back. “And maybe mentioned I was trying to impress my girlfriend.”
You try to act cool, but you’re smiling so hard it hurts.
Dinner is slow, the good kind of slow. The two of you order food you can barely pronounce, share bites off each other’s plates, laugh way too loud when Peter tries to flirt in broken French and accidentally calls you his grandma. He holds your hand on the table and under it. His foot taps yours sometimes, and you can’t tell if it’s on purpose or not.
After dinner, Peter insists on walking. “I have one more thing.”
You let him lead you through narrow streets lit by old lamps and the occasional neon sign. He pulls you close whenever someone zips by on a bike. At one point, he buys you both gelato from a corner cart and grins like a kid when yours starts melting faster than you can eat it.
Eventually, you end up by the Seine, where the water glows with reflections of the city.
“I wanted to tell you something,” he says suddenly.
You glance at him, your shoulder brushing his. “Okay.”
He’s nervous again. That adorable, awkward nervous that only Peter Parker can pull off.
“I know we already said it,” he says. “The ‘I love you’ thing. But…I just—I still mean it. More than ever.”
You blink. Your chest tightens in that good, warm way.
“I love you too,” you say, and your voice is softer than you expected it to be.
He leans in then, careful, eyes flicking from your lips to your eyes and back again like he’s asking permission. You meet him halfway.
The kiss is slow. Sure. His hand finds your waist. Yours curls around the back of his neck. When you finally break apart, your forehead stays pressed to his.
“Should we head back?” he asks, reluctantly.
You sigh. “Yeah.”
You walk back in comfortable silence. But when you reach the elevator, something pulls at you. You turn, wrap your arms around him again, and kiss him once more.
Then again, before the elevator dings open.
And again, after it closes behind him.
You don’t want to say goodnight. Not yet.
You call after him in a whisper-yell. “Peter—”
He turns.
“One more,” you say, running to him.
He catches you with a smile, and this time, the kiss is a little deeper. A little longer.
He laughs when you finally pull away. “You keep doing that, and I’m never gonna let you go.”
“Good,” you whisper.
You wake up the next morning smiling.
The Paris light slips through the curtains soft and golden, warming your face and nudging you out of sleep. For a second, you just lie there, replaying last night in your head—the way Peter looked at you in that orange dress, how he couldn’t stop staring. The dinner, the walk, the way he kissed you like he didn’t want the night to end. The way you kept running back for more.
Your roommate’s still out cold, knocked out with an eye mask and one earbud hanging halfway out. You slip out of bed, still wearing the oversized Midtown t-shirt Peter gave you months ago. You don’t even realize you’re smiling again until you’re brushing your teeth and catch your reflection.
Your phone buzzes on the counter.
Peter: good morning beautiful :)
You bite your lip, thumbs already flying.
You: morning, boyfriend :)
He replies almost immediately.
Peter: still thinking about last night. my face hurts from smiling. also I wanna see you.
You pause, heart doing a little flip.
You: wanna grab coffee before the museum tour?
Peter: yes. immediately. downstairs in 15?
You throw on some shorts and a tank, pull your locs down from the bun into a loose half-up, and head down. He’s already in the lobby, looking like he’s been there for a while—hair damp, probably fresh from a shower, and he’s bouncing on the balls of his feet like he’s trying not to sprint toward you the second he sees you.
You walk straight into his arms.
“Hi,” he says, breath soft in your ear.
“Hi,” you mumble into his hoodie, smiling into the fabric.
He pulls back just enough to kiss you. It’s quick, but full of that warm, giddy energy leftover from last night. His hand finds yours naturally as you head out, like it’s muscle memory at this point.
You find a little café on a side street with flaky croissants and strong coffee. Peter insists on paying, even though you roll your eyes. You sit at a tiny table by the window and just…talk. About everything. About nothing. He steals bites from your plate. You kick his foot when he does. He grins like it’s all the best thing that’s ever happened to him.
By the time you meet up with the rest of the group for the museum tour, it’s like nothing else matters. He keeps sneaking glances at you. He touches your hand every chance he gets. At one point, you both lag behind and he whispers, “Are we annoying? Like…are we that couple?”
You shrug. “Probably.”
“Cool. I like it.”
You lean into him. “Me too.”
After the tour, you walk with him back toward the hotel, lagging behind on purpose so the rest of the group doesn’t notice you both slipping off. He keeps brushing his fingers against yours like he’s waiting for you to take the lead. You do.
And once again, you’re out in the city—just the two of you. You’re not dressed up this time, not trying to impress anyone, but Peter looks at you like you hung the stars anyway. Like nothing in Paris could possibly compare.
Later that night, on the balcony of the hotel, the Eiffel Tower starts to sparkle. You’re sitting side by side, legs stretched out, his hoodie wrapped around your shoulders because you were cold and he’s too warm-blooded to notice the chill.
He turns his head toward you slowly.
“You ever think about what it’s gonna be like…after this?” he asks. “Like, when we’re back in New York. When we’re in college. Real life.”
You rest your head on his shoulder. “All the time.”
“I don’t want this to be one of those summer romance things,” he says. “I want it to be…everything. Always.”
You sit up a little to look at him. “It already is.”
He leans in. This kiss is quieter. Slower. The kind you feel down to your toes.
And when it breaks, you whisper, “I’m not saying goodnight first.”
He smiles, all teeth and nerves and love.
“I wasn’t planning on saying it at all.”

Turn Your Home Into an Instant Vacation: A Guide to Creating an At-Home Escape Shaina Tranquilino June 19, 2024
Life can get hectic, and sometimes the idea of a vacation seems like a distant dream. But what if I told you that you could create an instant vacation right in the comfort of your own home? Whether it's a busy schedule, budget constraints, or just a longing for a little relaxation, turning your home into a vacation destination is easier than you think. Here’s how you can transform your space into a haven of relaxation and escape without ever leaving your doorstep.
Set the Scene: Create a Vacation Atmosphere
1. Choose Your Destination
Start by deciding on the vibe you want to emulate. Are you dreaming of a tropical beach, a cozy mountain retreat, or a chic European city? Once you’ve decided, you can start to tailor your home’s ambiance to match.
Tropical Paradise: Bring in the sun with bright, warm colors and plenty of greenery. Think palm leaves, bamboo, and floral prints. You could even add some tiki torches or fairy lights for that extra touch.
Mountain Retreat: Opt for cozy, rustic elements with lots of wood, soft throws, and warm lighting. A fireplace or candles can add a perfect touch of ambiance.
European Escape: Channel the charm of a quaint European village with vintage decor, floral patterns, and perhaps some classic European music playing in the background.
2. Create the Right Ambiance
Mood lighting is key to setting the vacation tone. Here are a few ideas:
Candles and Fairy Lights: These can create a warm, inviting glow. Scented candles can also add an extra layer of relaxation with aromas like lavender, ocean breeze, or jasmine.
Music Playlist: Curate a playlist that matches your destination. Whether it's the sounds of the ocean, jazz for a Parisian feel, or mountain breeze tunes, music can transport you to another place.
Transform Your Space: Little Changes Make a Big Difference
3. Decorate with a Purpose
Small touches can make a huge difference. Here are some ideas:
Textiles and Fabrics: Swap out your usual cushions, throws, and bed linens for ones that match your vacation theme. For a tropical vibe, think bright and bold; for a cozy retreat, go for plush and warm.
Artwork and Posters: Hang some artwork or posters that evoke your chosen destination. It’s a great way to keep the vacation spirit alive.
4. Set Up a Special Space
Designate a spot in your home as your vacation corner. It could be a reading nook, a balcony garden, or even a cozy corner with a hammock or a comfy chair. This space should be your go-to spot for relaxation and unwinding.
Indulge Your Senses: Taste, Smell, and Touch
5. Cook Up a Storm
Food is a big part of any vacation. Try cooking dishes from your chosen destination. Here are some ideas:
Tropical: Think tropical fruit salads, coconut curries, or fresh seafood.
Mountain Retreat: Rustic dishes like stews, grilled meats, or hearty soups.
European: Pasta, cheese boards, or pastries can transport you to the streets of Rome or Paris.
6. Scent Your Home
Scents can be incredibly evocative. Use essential oils, candles, or diffusers to bring the scents of your destination to life.
Tropical: Coconut, pineapple, and mango scents.
Mountain Retreat: Pine, cedarwood, and vanilla.
European: Lavender, rosemary, and fresh bread.
7. Pamper Yourself
Create a spa-like experience at home. Set up a bath with some relaxing bath salts, light some candles, and play soothing music. Treat yourself to a facial or a DIY spa day with masks and scrubs.
Make It Last: Keep the Vacation Spirit Alive
8. Stay in the Moment
Turn off your phone and disconnect from work emails and social media. Dedicate this time to relaxation and enjoying your home-turned-vacation spot.
9. Keep the Vibe Going
Consider making some of these changes permanent. A little vacation flair can make everyday life feel more exciting and relaxing.
Your Home, Your Vacation
Turning your home into an instant vacation spot is not just about creating a new environment; it’s about making time for yourself and enjoying the little things that make you happy. Whether it’s a few hours in a tropical paradise or a weekend in a cozy cabin, your home can be the perfect retreat. So, why wait? Start planning your at-home vacation today and give yourself the break you deserve!

Lady in Whiskers & Slippers (Updated 11-19-23)
(Sling Set, 19. October) Back in Cinci-Oh, I struggled to earn small wages doing odd jobs in my awkward teen years. At Human age 13, my limbs shot up like bamboo n my paws were whopee cusions, yet Im still kitten sized compared to Big Rhonda n Aunt Jane (Circene screwd my mom's genetics more than dad screwed her in the motel 6 pool that birthed me! srry TMI). Two of my best gigs boiled to babysitting and the Cactus Joan Revue at Cincinnati Zoo. Sure I liked pouncing thru loops made by my preternatural tail Slink n wranglin livestock by the petting zone in Aunt Jane's Cowgirl dress from her Paris,Texas Runway last spring when she toured w/Coco Banana, the sitting jobs fared better cuz I met some critters as odd as I am, like that pygmy hippo boss baby Benny and his growth formula down by Wall Street, or that shadeling Taz Devil Vincent from Brisbane, Australia. But my recent sitting gig had some skeletons I hadnt noticed til then, n it all came to my sitee Last July.
I took care of a literal cat lady and her litter of 35 for 3 wks in her rustic Rhode Island shack. Her name was Julie Phyllis. 30yrs ago, she was a former resi of Spooner Street with a handful of cats, plus a large tabby w/black stripes she calls Mistress Bengal acting as security for the few dogs that dare cross her sidewalk n lawn. Lately some rowdy kids spouted off tall tales of her becoming a cat herself or that Bengal would take her place if she wasn't fed well enough. Wutever the case, she had gradually gone from Crazy Ol Cat Lady to Crazy Ol Cat IRL 'round Halloween time. They hadnt figured what caused her transfur, say for some strange glowing plants by her yard. Her cats musta rubbed on the leaves which carried bits of Circene spores in'em, then she rubbed her face n hands on their fur, turning her to this light orange Tabby I saw my first week of Nana-sitting, or maybe Ms. Bengal had been Mobilized n took Phyllis' place. Like any bothersome pets in the suburbs, her neighbors had shooed them far out of town, living their next nine lives in that shack. Few things to know bout my time w/Ms. Phyllis 2/3 weeks in: 1-Her signature clothes were a periwinkle bathrobe, small round glasses, n peach slippers in stockings. But as a Barban spinster housecat who could shift from anthro to feral at random, she rips her pantyhose clawing n stretching her toes apart when going full cat. Otherwise she's naked in both her Mobile and Wild stance sans a grey-blue collar on her neck with a tag reading "Bagel" whn goin out, wearin it as if she was that same cat that passed not too long ago. And I no shame luv it! 2-Her cats see her as Queen of the Litterbox given her girth from eating too much Meow Mix n cream, but I see a deluded fat-ass pussy, which is no different than other cats, playin round the scratch post, lappin that saucer of cream n tuna. 3-Litterbox stank n dander everywhere was unbearable 4-A pantry stocked full'o'tuna cans, milk & cream yet she forgets to feed them while gourging on the rations herself, chowing so much Meow mix like Trail Mix n guzzling gallons upon gallons of milk!
All that said, she wasnt a bad client, forgetful n piggy yes, but not awful, n still tho...I cudnt help but shake that we were kindred in some way, dark stripes n glasses aside. Few times we went Out to walk, Julie hung with her Golden Girls by a small pet friendly café, sharing gossip from the pets on Spooner street n out of state, comparing pills n claw lengths, wooing would-be mates at the Petsmart n VFW home. She was almost like family to me, rekindling our bonds after we havnt seen one another for a long time.
Near the end of week 2, I saw some frames of Phyllis with her 'tiger cat' Ms. Bengal almost one n the same at this point, even wearin the confounded collar with the wrong name Bagel. Another frame of that cat corners my eye, with a Persian and Siamese by her side, but she wore an enchanting Viper Green collar. Funny how they look a bit like my aunt n uncle on my mom's side, Muffin & Finch. Dad told me they had another tabby as a friend by name of Bagel, looking way too same-ish as Julie on that big orange Snick couch there by the TV set with all the other cats huddled over for daytime soaps or Price is Right like my inlaws did at the adoption center– ⚡️👓⚡️😳 Oh my...I blocked that thought out as a cub some point, not giving 2¢ about it, but it factors into my lineage with Ma when she left our lives. I was too bashful to blurt out my discovery in front of her cats lest they attack their False Queen in shock. Tho given her short-term memory loss, she wudnt hav known herself much post-TF. Was she Ms. Bengal or Julie Phyllis? TBC

The Ultimate Guide to Designing with Noce Travertine
Noce Travertine is renowned for its rich brown tones and elegant texture, a beautiful natural stone. It is preferred by designers and homeowners alike who want to give interiors and exteriors a rustic but sophisticated feel. This elegant material is mostly quarried in Italy and Turkey. With its veining and absorptive structure, it brings a natural, organic feel to any space while looking refined.
Why You Should Pick Noce Travertine?
Noce Travertine has deep and warm brown colors which produce an inviting and homely environment. Noce has a strong and warm look unlike lighter travertines, so it is perfect for wall cladding, countertops, floors, and outdoor patios. Its resistance to severe temperatures and long lifespan make it a great option for industrial as well as residential use.
Its natural texture also improves slip resistance, which makes it a favorite choice for outdoor paths and pool decks. Honed, polished, or tumbled, it gives creative flexibility and guarantees durability.
Pari Noce Travertine with Dark Marble and Oriental White Marble
For a striking contrast, pair it beautifully with Dark Marble US selections, deep brown or black marbles, for a dramatic and luxurious look. The dark marble enhances the earthy elegance of Travertine, great for bathrooms, kitchen backsplashes and accent walls.

If you want a softer contrast, Oriental White Marble in Anaheim is a perfect match. The crisp and clean look of Oriental White Marble balances the warmth of Noce Travertine. It creates a harmonious blend of light and dark tones that work in modern and classic spaces.
Conclusion- In a nutshell, it can be concluded that Noce Travertine is a timeless investment that adds character and sophistication to any space. Whether you’re re-designing your home or working on a large-scale commercial project, this natural stone has it all. Check out the Collection at Surfaces Galore and add nature to your space. Don't delay anymore, hurry up and browse the collection now.

How to Choose the Right False Ceiling for Your Home
Now that you know the different types of false ceilings, here are some factors to consider while choosing the best one for your home:
1. Room Type and Purpose
For living rooms, gypsum or POP false ceilings with decorative patterns work best.
Bedrooms can benefit from wooden or fabric false ceilings for a warm and cozy feel.
Kitchens and bathrooms should have moisture-resistant options like PVC or metal ceilings.
2. Budget Considerations
If you are looking for an affordable option, POP and PVC false ceilings are great choices.
For a luxurious finish, wooden or glass false ceilings add elegance but may be more expensive.
3. Durability and Maintenance
If you want a long-lasting and easy-to-maintain ceiling, go for gypsum, metal, or PVC.
POP ceilings may require occasional maintenance due to cracks over time.
4. Aesthetic Appeal
Modern interiors often feature gypsum, metal, or glass false ceilings.
Traditional or rustic homes look best with wooden or POP designs.
5. Climate and Environmental Factors

Elegant and Contemporary False Ceiling Designs for a Beautiful Hall
False ceilings, also known as drop ceilings, have become an essential feature in modern interiors, adding both style and functionality to spaces like living rooms and main halls. Whether you're considering a false ceiling design for your hall or exploring innovative ceiling ideas, a well-planned design can completely transform the ambiance of your space. This guide covers everything from cost considerations and trending designs to the benefits of installing a false ceiling in your home.
What is a False Ceiling?
A false ceiling is a secondary ceiling installed below the main ceiling, typically made from materials like Plaster of Paris (POP), gypsum, or wood. Besides enhancing aesthetics, false ceilings serve practical purposes such as concealing electrical wiring, improving soundproofing, and enhancing temperature control. Whether you’re designing a hall false ceiling or a living room ceiling, these versatile ceilings allow for customization to match your personal style.
How is the Cost of a False Ceiling Calculated?
Several factors influence the cost of installing a false ceiling. Understanding these can help you budget effectively:
✅ Design Complexity: The more intricate the design, the higher the labor and material costs. Simple, single-layered designs are more affordable compared to elaborate multi-layered or patterned ceilings.
✅ Room Size: Larger spaces like main halls and living rooms require more materials and labor, increasing overall expenses.
✅ Material Choice: POP and gypsum are budget-friendly, while wood and premium materials tend to be costlier.
✅ Availability of Materials: Locally available materials are more affordable, whereas imported materials may carry higher transportation costs.
✅ Additional Features: Elements such as hidden lighting, decorative moldings, and special finishes can add to the total cost.
8 Stunning False Ceiling Designs for Your Home
1. Single-Layered False Ceilings
A simple yet elegant choice, single-layered false ceilings create a clean and sophisticated look, making them ideal for small to medium-sized halls.
✅ Advantages: Cost-effective, easy to install, and offers subtle style enhancement.

For larger spaces, a multi-layered ceiling adds depth and dimension by incorporating different levels at varying heights, making your hall look more spacious.

3. Plus-Minus POP False Ceiling
This design utilizes raised and recessed sections to create a 3D visual effect, adding an element of drama to your living space.
✅ Advantages: Unique and artistic, ideal for statement ceilings in grand halls.

✅ Advantages: Timeless and elegant, excellent for soundproofing and insulation.
5. Geometric Patterned False Ceiling
For a contemporary and artistic touch, geometric false ceilings incorporate bold shapes and patterns, making them a stylish choice for modern interiors.
✅ Advantages: Visually captivating and versatile, suitable for both traditional and modern spaces.
