Dear lord. XD Do you know how verbose I can get? This is probably going to become a long answer, but I'll make an effort to keep it brief and add some pics just for funsies.

5. how many wips do i have? I think 3 currently. 1. Heart of the Ship for the Rumbelle fandom, been working on this since 2013. Don't ask. 2. The Dance of the Demigods. Hooked Wayfinder goodness, my take on Moana 3, this one is going great. I'm over 40K. 3. Only Fools Rush In - the idiot hotel receptionist Maui/tourist Moana fic I started a few days ago. I think I need another 5K words or so to finish this off. Will probably post it before Valentine's Day as a gift to the Hooked Wayfinder shippers.

I have about 40 finished fics on AO3 and 10 unfinished ones. I don't think those numbers are bad but sometimes think "I should go back and finish some of those"

15. favorite time to write nighttime.

25. favorite part of the writing process probably the actual writing. and then the rereading afterwards. I spend time worldbuilding too and while I don't dislike that, I really enjoy getting the scenes on paper.

35. fav fic I've posted I can't choose between my babies... Though... Our Future Together (Hooked Wayfinder) probably had one of the best receptions out there. I was blown away by that, so that holds fun memories. Sadly unfinished, though I'm thinking of going back to it and wrapping it up (differently than I originally had in mind) - it has a really dramatic undertone though which I need to be in a specific mindset for.

45. genre/trope i write most I prefer romance/adventure/comedy as a genre (I think comparing it to something like Pirates of the Caribbean wouldn't be wrong - that's the genre I love writing.) tropes: enemies to lovers, beauty and the beast, mortal/immortal, 2 people against the world, neurodivergent demisexuals... There's probably a ton more I'm forgetting.

55. patterns I've noticed in my fics My characters have some of my own neurodivergent traits. I never see it at the moment but always years later. They're often more sensitive than they show the world, feeling outcast from the rest of society, deeply longing to contribute while simultaneously wanting to be left alone. Sometimes they're outcast because of their status (demigods, for example), sometimes just because they're more sensitive than others (Hux in my Reyux fics), learning to emotionally regulate better, very often unable to open up to others until that special someone comes along that's exactly their kind of weird... They're usually smart but also dumbasses.

75. Is there a certain fic readers gravitated towards that you didn't expect? Bedmates, my Rumbelle fuckbuddies AU. It's not precisely PWP but probably fits that bill better than my other Rumbelle stories. I remember loving that it got read, but also feeling sad that the Rumbelle stories I put more plotting/effort in never got that kind of hype-response.

Season one, but it’s a genuinely fun ride up to 3A, in spite of some flaws here and there. 3B-S7 has a few nice moments here and there, but it went too far into blatantly emotionally manipulative nonsensical writing territory for me to be able to support it. Yeah, I love angst. A lot of us in the Dearie/Rumbelle fandoms really do. The problem with OUAT is that it became increasingly *forced* and inconsistent on the show after 2A, but it was bearable up to 3A because at least A&E and the writers still had stories to with relatively satisfying endings for the main characters planned ahead of time up to the Neverland arc.

The problem with 3B-S7 was that they completely threw away character development to focus on nonsensical plots to keep bringing them back to their stories between S1-3A, and every time they reset them, it felt increasingly ooc, forced, and lazy. I don’t hate the Aesop Amnesia trope when it’s well-done in fiction because people often make the same bad choices and/or mistakes at least a few times before they finally grow and move on, especially in the cases of children, reforming villains, and the mentally ill. The problem with the writers of OUAT is that it felt increasingly contrived and cheaply shocking character assassination every time they reset them because they forced them there with mischaracterizations and ass pulled plot twists with their go big or go home “what a twist” mentality when the from late 2B onwards.

In other words, A&E and the writers were far too invested in instantly gratifying plot-result oriented in their storytelling. They wanted to get to the end of every story they wrote right away, and focused way too much on pushing the characters there with deus ex machinnas and mischaracterizations.

Yes, I was primarily watching OUAT between 2015-2017 in my late teens-mid twenties because I was a Dearie/Rumbelle/BATB fan, too. In a way, I always will be. I gave up on watching after S5 out of exhaustion with the bad writing, I continued roaming the fandom at S6 to find our what was happening on the show through tumblr out of morbid curiosity, and I watched one Rumbelle centric episode of S7. Otherwise, I mostly just continue to love the characters and relationship after 3A through AU and certain canon-divergent scenarios in fanfiction.

As with 2023, I started 2024 off with great ambitions regarding writing and gifing and editing:

I ended up posting [in 2023] only a handful of gifsets, three ficlets, two of which I wrote for Rumbelle Showdown (shoutout to @jackabelle73 for hosting this wonderful event last year, by the way), and 0 fanvids/edits. I'm not particularly proud of it, and I really, really wanna make much more content this year.

And, as with 2023, I ended up posting only a handful of little things, a couple of moodboards and gifsets and a couple of tiny ficlets. Honestly? I'm a little baffled as to how it happened (it feels like only yesterday I was writing that post and looked forward to creating much more Rumbelle and Anyelle content in 2024... where did the time go? 😅) and more than a little ashamed, especially considering 2024 was the year I really got into Anyelle.

We've already seen how this promises go, but I really really really do hope I'll have enough time and spoons and inspiration to write and edit and gif and put together much much more things on this blog and in this fandom. Guess we'll see next year how well it went?)

Hello! I found you through your Golden Cuffs AO3 fanfic (currently reading through Golden Rings), and you have brought back my love for both OUaT and Rumbelle! It’s been a while since I got inspired like this, so first thank you! Since TMI Tuesday is coming up I thought I’d submit my two questions (one here, one in another ask): One, is there any sort of Fandom group for OUaT or Rumbelle? I wasn’t sure how active a fandom there was, but if there was still something I would love to know!

Hello! Welcome to the fandom! I know that you already did the most important part of any Rumbelle initiation and asked Stragg for The Thing. That's how we learn about new Rumbellers. Hopefully, you've gotten a hearty welcome.

I've heard rumors of fandom discords for Rumbelle, but I'm not a part of them myself. We are definitely here on Tumblr.

It's hard to be part of a fandom for a show that isn't running anymore (though it's also nice because we don't have to care about canon anymore.) When a network show is running, you have these bursts of activity every week when there's a new episode. It's easier for fans to come together at the same time and place. Now that people are watching OUAT on streaming, fan activity is more of a steady drip than a full firehose.

This is why it's always so fun to participate in events. Right now the @rumbelleshowdown is in its second round of competition. (You can read all the fics right now! And vote on which ones you think are the best!) Hard to say if they'll be much of a presence at the Monsterfucker's Ball in October (same with Rumbelle Christmas in July.) But as far as I know the Rumbelle Secret Santa is still going strong. That's my favorite way to meet new people and get new fics.

And of course, the most important rule of any fandom is to be yourself and have fun. We're a level-headed, understanding, very horny bunch here in Rumbelle. I hope you have a good time!

How Two Become Three - Chapter 1 - nikonic - Criminal Minds (US TV) [Archive of Our Own]

Fandom: Criminal Minds Ship: Jemily/Reader (poly) Why I rec it: This is the first work in a LONG series (like, really long. Don't know how the author does it). The series varies a lot from angst, to smut, to fluff. I think this author does a really good job portraying and talking about triggering topics. And I absolutely love the consent and kink conversations throughout the stories. I recommend subscribing to the series or the author to get updates, since it's still being updated regularly.

Love Comes Quietly - Chapter 1 - Kattwyllie - Criminal Minds (US TV) [Archive of Our Own]

Fandom: Criminal Minds Ship: Alex Blake/Reader Why I rec it: This is a very sweet roommates turned lovers. I like the writing, and I love the pacing of this fic.

Safety - Chapter 1 - DemonOfPuns - Biohazard | Resident Evil (Gameverse) [Archive of Our Own]

Fandom: Resident Evil Village Ship: Alcina Dimitrescu/Reader (at some point reader becomes an original character) Why I rec it: The smut is 10/10, but the development of the relationship both between Sasha and Alcina; but also Sasha and the daughters is one of the cutest things I've read. I think this is one of my favorite fanfics of all time. It's long, it's got a good amount of angst; a good amount of fluff and the smut is sensational.

Fandom: The Morning Show Ship: Alex Levy/Maggie Brener Why I rec it: This is a masterpiece. It changed the chemistry of my brain and it changed me forever. Not only that, but I feel like there's a scene in this one that if it was canon it would've been an award winning scene.

Fandom: Once Upon a Time Ship: Rumpelstiltskin/Belle Why I rec it: This is a heavy-BDSM story. It's been a while since I've read it, to be honest with you. But I remember liking it a lot. And yes, this is probably the only fic with a f/m ship. I'm really not a fan of straight ships, I don't read fanfiction of them cause we usually have a lot of canon stuff. But rumbelle had some of the most amazing writers in a fandom, and to be honest, I'm sure there will be more fics of this ship in later editions of fic mondays.

Thank you for the ask, my friend - here are my answers:

12. how does receiving or not receiving feedback/support impact you? Well now, if you look back on my blog here (or anywhere else if you happen to know where they are) you will already know that I'm a loud and obnoxious advocate for reader engagement. That's primarily because... well actually maybe what I was about to say was not the whole truth. So I'll start over.

I'm a teacher. More than that, I'm a special education teacher, and I know how important and motivating feedback and support can be for my students, and so I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect me at all. The truth is that more than ever the older I get, (and the less time I have to spend on the things I like to do for leisure and enjoyment), the more motivation I have to continue a project comes from knowing that others are enjoying reading what I write, or looking at the things I make - or are at least reading it, even if they're ambivalent. I know that I'm not the only writer in any number of fandoms that feel the same. This is also the reason that if someone comments on a fic, I'll always try to answer it, because writers engaging with the readers is also important. It's a transactional process in that respect.

21. Would you ever collaborate with another writer for a story? I have done it a few times in the past, once with great success, but unfortunately most often time not, though I think that depended more on the personality of the other writer than the actual process, so I think my answer would be, and would have to be, it depends. It's a matter of trust, I think, and where it was a great success, I trusted the other writers implicitly.

39. Share a snippet from a WIP. Thank you for asking. Here is a little snipped from the next chapter of Laer o Faen. It isn't much, but you are welcome to it.

It was a strange dichotomy. The building of the elven home around him set against the tearing down of everything Elvenkind held dear barely a breath away across the Bruinen. The rushing of the river between at once soothing, and unnerving each in its turn. It was night that brought the respite from the constant worry, albeit but a blink of it, for he knew the gathered orcs would not try to ford the Loudwater, as swollen as it was by recent rains.

63. Something you hate to see in smut. Oooh, tough room. Um... wow, um.... I guess the biggest thing I hate to see in smut, the one thing that has me cringing is when a writer uses bizarre euphemisms for body parts. I mean, I get it, not everyone is comfortable with, (or confident enough to) use some of the words most commonly used for genitalia, but excessive beating around the bush (no puns intended), can be a little tiresome. I guess as I've gotten older using and reading those words don't bother me so much any more. I do still dislike the use of the four letter word beginning with c and ending with t used to reference the female sex. It's not a deal breaker, but yeah, I think it still carries a negative connotation for me.

64. Something you love to see in smut. Attention given to all of the senses, and a maintenance of viewpoint character. Nothing worse than headhopping in the middle of rip roaring sex to make a reader's head spin.

67. Do you prefer prompts and challenges, or completely independent ideas? More often than not, I have a hard time with prompts, but by the same token many, if not most of my fics (and some of my best) have come from prompts or challenges - usually from @peacehopeandrats when they say something like, "You know, I read this book and it would be perfect to Rumbelle." Then I go and read the book and they're right, and then my brain can't stop trying to Rumbelle the story. That's how The Library Beneath the Clock Tower came about, among others.

I’ve typed and deleted about five first sentences to this post before deciding I don’t want to post about that. Instead I’m gonna do what I do best and lean on fandom for escapism.

So, as you might have seen, I posted two fic chapters last week: one for “Lonely Soul, Ocean Soul,” my Barbgrove selkie fic; and the other for “The Black Swan,” my Rumbelle Swan Lake AU. Both of those fics are one epilogue away from completion, proving that I can, in fact, finish a thing. It just doesn’t happen often.

Two items are up next: the next chapter of “One More Time, Steal My Breath,” my Hellcheer kinkfic; and a complete Stranger Things fix-it, tentatively titled “A Strange Twist of Fate.” The former is… rough. I wrote most of it at the height of my sleep deprivation, so it’s… messy. Honestly it would probably be better to scrap the chapter and start over, but I know myself; after spending months on the damn thing, if I scrap it now, I’ll get discouraged and never get around to rewriting it. So if this chapter seems weaker than the rest, keep in mind that that’s out of necessity.

As for the new fic, I have no clue if I’m doing it “right.” I’ve neither read nor written a fix-it fic before, so I don’t know how they traditionally go. I refuse to rewrite each and every scene because that sounds boring as shit. So this will basically be an author’s note containing a list of canon events I kept, followed by whatever altered scenes tickle my fancy. If it’s incoherent and inconsistent… well, then I know I’m emulating the Duffers well.

Oh - and before anyone wonders whether I’m burning myself out again, I’m (probably) not! Three of these four chapters were already mostly done, which is why I’m able to crank so many out so fast. Once those are done, it’ll probably be another few weeks til my next update.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! I love talking to my readers and honestly every comment that gets left on one of my stories touches my heart!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Uh.....I don't think I have any. Most of my fics are smutty one shots that end happy ;) lol

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I would say A Place To Escape because I worked the hardest writing that fic and Kylo and Evangeline go through A LOT before their happy ending.

8. Do you get hate on fics? Not really. I once had someone comment that I must be jealous of Rey cause I write KyloxReader fics but I'm also a Reylo sooooo. But I'm sure there are people out there that talk shit about me and my writing lol

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? YES. All of the smut all of the time.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Nope. Well.....once I wrote that Heath Ledger's Joker falls through a wormhole into the real world of NYC were me and my two best friends find him and taken him home......Don't ask....and no you can't find that fic anywhere LOL

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have! Not for awhile now but they're deff fun to do!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Jesus idk...there's so many.... Prob Sandor x Sansa cause I've loved them the longest.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Most likely Darkness Into Light. It's never been released but it's a multi-chapter Kylo x reader fic where reader is also an apprentice of Snoke's and Rey tempting Kylo back to the light causes all these problems. I've had the story planned out and semi-written for years now. I love my ideas for it but I don't think I'll ever have the time or energy to finish it/put it out there to the world.

16. What are your writing strengths? I feel like I'm mostly known for my smut writing abilities because I not only write smutty fics but also write smutty audios. Most of my followers call me "smut goblin" lol But I have been told that I'm good at writing about powerful emotions connected with SA. And that I'm good at the characterization of various characters.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I'm too hard on myself and I think I suck. I also think I'm awful at writing descriptors. Like describing what clothing looks like or a place or things like that.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I've done it a little bit in A Place To Escape. I wanted Evangeline to have a native language that she used once or twice that Kylo wouldn't understand. But I ended up just using Italian words because.....reasons lol

19. First fandom you wrote for? Oh god....I'm not even sure now because I've been writing for so long. But when it comes to my Ao3 it would be Once Upon A Time (Rumbelle for life!)

20. Favourite fic you've ever written? Gonna have to say A Place To Escape because I put my heart and soul into that fic. And it's also the first ever multi-chapter thing I EVER finished.

Hey rumbelle fam,

Just putting it out there that the site will be down for probably the foreseeable future?

This is for two (and a half?) reasons:

1) It was built on a tech stack that is now pretty outdated, and it seems the queries that actually make the site work are no longer returning the data they need to. So... I would need to do some poking around under the hood to see what exactly is causing the problem and time has become a pretty scarce resource for me lately

2) Uh... Hosting is getting quite expensive 🥲 I've been hosting the site on the same webspace I host my professional portfolio site on, so it hadn't been an issue, but my portfolio site is also in need of a massive redesign/rebuild that I won't be getting to any time soon, so it's really not worth paying what it costs to keep the lights on there either, especially given I'm not actively looking for work atm (bc I'm currently working full-time at a pretty great company 😊)

2.5) The amount of fanworks we create has sadly calmed down a LOT since the show ended, so there doesn't seem to be as much of a need for the site as there was 2-3 years ago? (As much as I would love to keep it up for posterity or whatever)

That being said, I am looking into other tech stacks and less costly hosting solutions, and the ideal outcome is that I'll be able to migrate everything and have it back up in a month or two. But like I said, time is precious and I can't guarantee anything

Thanks to everyone who helped make this fandom a real community for so many years, who organized (and in some cases continue to organize) all our fun events, and helped manage the site with me! Y'all are the best, and I sincerely hope to have things back up soon! 🤗💕
