‘Float’ Review: A Half-Baked Romance Makes Small-Town Living Seem Idyllic
I have never wanted to move to a small town more than I did after watching this film – but there’s a reason why I’m still a city girl. Lionsgate’s latest movie, Float, has a very interesting origin story, as it happens to be an adaptation of a Wattpad novel written by Kate Marchant. For those who don’t know, Wattpad is a notorious platform used by preteens and young adults to write and indulge…

I forgot to mention the past toxic yaoi but that was younger man yaoi and may or may not be part of the AU that leads to Quill dying so we don't talk about that AU it's expected because Kaleo is a good boyfriend to nobody but he is a great father to specifically only Rukiya and I'm convinced nobody else
On a much cuter note. Old man yaoi with copious domestic fluff that also started on a whim because my first thought as to who Quill knows when I was making him to be a VNC OC was August and then they were so gay it had to be done 😭
I briefly mentioned Quintil in the tags of one of my posts but like some of my OCs strike the right part of my brain and he's one of them. I literally made this dude on a whim but I love him to death. What ISN'T there to love about a vampire dilf and his adopted daughter who acts like a feral cat not to mention Quill being a PRIME CANDIDATE for angsty old man yaoi
#☆ — riri says.#I probably just spoke a bunch of jibberish#but know that Kaleo is horrible#and yet people who know of him like him#as in irl#in canon he has mixed reviews#probably because they know him as Rukiya's dad#not her step dad but the dad who stepped up#mostly because her bio dad is dead

Just watched a new, nice video essay about Nimona, but---even though I know intellectually that there CAN be people who don't pick up on Goldenheart being gay, from their first scene together---it was still shocking to me when I heard that video essayist talk like Goldenheart aren't confirmed as gay until their kiss near the end of the movie.
I felt compelled to gather together some of my favorite reactions from YouTubers, at the moment when they realized Goldenheart are gay (and said so).

TOMORROW AND TOMORROW AND TOMORROW
Didnt get a chance to watch Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow until tonight for various reasons, so pardon my late review!
Anyway, for the 2nd week in a row we get that most classic of Trekisms - a really flimsy metaphor for something presented in a way that's kind of insulting if you think about for more than a minute, but this time, also wrapped in some absolutely top tier character torture porn (complimentary)!
Like, the metaphors get a bit tiring and insulting, but... it's nice to have a Star Trek that's doing them again in a way we havent seen since DS9 and Voyager.
Anyway, Viewing Notes:
Who kept my sweet sweet spock from playing the music of his soul? WHO ARE THEY I JUST WANT TO TALK
(also damn starfleet couldnt spring for the noise dampening walls?)
Poor M'Benga. You tried ;_;
"You don't have to bear this alone" OH DOESN'T SHE?????????????
Kinda funny (as in sad funny) M'Benga said that too, since I think he STILL hasn't been able to reveal that he was smuggling Rukiya for years, even if Una eventually found out and agreed to keep his secret.
NGL, Exasperated Kirk in the Alleyway kinda had me laughing a bit. To say nothing of the clothing scene. And the Chess Scene. And the Hot Dog scene. As much as I didnt want to like La'an/Kirk, this is a pretty classic screwball romance setup and I am a SUCKER for those. So. Fine. You got me. I kinda sorta ship it.
Oooo, so THAT'S why this Kirk says he's from Space. Oof. There's a kicker.
I gotta say, New Kirk is making a believer out of me. He's not Shatner at all, which I think he doesn't need to be, but even in this "Earth is kinda Xenophobic" AU, he has that kind of quiet confidence and latent nerdiness of classic TOS Kirk. He's got the sassiness (That little one of us has got to change look he gave to Laan and the Heck yeah I'll just hustle people at chess for money thing) combined with the chivalry (Immediately changing so La'an can have her preferred outfit, charming the people he vanquished at chess with a handshake and a smile) that really works for me.
"Get to the Bridge" oh my gosh SNEAKY AS THE DICKENS.
Pelia remains an absolute delight in every appearance. I kinda love how she just... wasnt a great engineer though? Why would she be? She's immortal, but she's also just a person trying to survive, and she has hundreds of years to live! We need more Immortals who are just this guy (gender neutral), to be honest. Why would she have kept up on engineering stuff for a few hundred years? That would probably get boring! Hell, maybe that's why Scotty replaces her, she gets bored of engineering and decides to try something else! It makes perfect since she didnt learn it yet!
Aaaaand now we get the part I'm not sure I like: What if you went back in time to Defend Baby Hitler from the people who came back in time to kill him, because if you didnt, the future would be worse? Also it's implied Baby Hitler is being, if not actively tortured, at least definitely imprisoned against his will and separated from his friends and family.
I mean... Listen, I get Khan is fictional, as are the eugenics wars, but the metaphor is... I dunno man, the comparison is there and it's kind of iffy, and I while I understand how it kind of adds more dimensions to La'an's struggle with her ancestry, the whole "Millions of people have to suffer and die because thats the way the timeline has to be" sticks in my craw. It'd be like if Past Tense made the twist that the DS9 crew had to kill Gabriel Bell instead of impersonating him at the right moments. I just don't think this was the right story to tell.
I think I can kinda deal with it because you know, this is Star Trek. But gosh, this will not replace Past Tense as my favorite Star Trek time travel story any time soon, no matter how charming Alternate Kirk was.
Sera's rant about the timeline is interesting. One one hand, the clever little "Timeline reasserting itself" to explain plot holes like that Time Voyager travelled back to the 90s and there was no sign of Eugenics Wars was kinda fun, but on the other hand, it smacks of the same kind of overexplaining I disliked with having M'Benga introduce Spock to the harp. Sometimes its enough that Spock plays the Harp! Sometimes its enough that when a single universe lasts for half a century and is written by hundreds of people over multiple series and mediums, little continuity errors slip in!
(nitpick time: You're telling me she cant at least talk to Pelia about this? If they "fixed" things and this is her timeline Pelia should remember her, right? Hell, they outright implied La'an's visit was the reason she became an engineer in the first place! Maybe she mentioned the bunker in Vermont specifically so La'an would know to go meet her there whenever the time travel happened, and threw in the "That painting is a Fake" because she remembered talking about it with La'an! TALK TO PELIA, LA'AN!). I suppose the idea might be that Pelia doesn't know exactly why La'an was in the past and cant be allowed to know more, but. Ugh.
Cuz like, listen, I know the dramatic weight requires La'an not to talk to anyone, but like. The Temporal police dont employ any counselors? If they're saving Mass Murderers from assassination on the reg, La'an can't be the first temporal agent to have mental health issues over that, even as a temporary recruit pressganged into service to save her own ancestor. And it's not like Pike could change anything if she told him, that stuff happened IN THE PAST!
BASICALLY LA'AN IS SUFFERING AND SHE DESERVES SOME COMFORT COME ON I EXPECT BETTER FROM STARFLEET EVEN THE DUMBASS SECRETIVE TIME POLICE DIVISION
Like gosh, that lady was ice cold i think even if Alt!Kirk had survived and hopped a ride over on that little device she would have killed him just to preserve the timeline or some shit.
I dunno. Time travel stuff. Ugh.
Anyway, OK Episode, I loved alternate Kirk, loved La'an and Kirk's shenanigans in modern Toronto/Vermont before things got real, kinda shipped La'an/Kirk in spite of myself, and the temporal intrigue was... intriguing, but "Let's Save Baby Hitler" left a sour taste in my mouth. On to the next Ep!

QUICK REVIEW OF "The Elysian Kingdom"
My son subscribed to Paramount+ streaming service and let me create a profile so I could watch some of the movies and TV shows.
It's kind of cute and adorable. A Star Trek junkie like me would like it just because it's Star Trek. So far I like all of the characters. A lot of the actors and actresses are new to me. I'm not familiar with any of their other acting credits.
It's in Season 1 and I have made it up to Episode 8 titled "The Elysian Kingdom".
It was "cute and adorable". I liked it because, even though I am an adult, I still love reading children's fairy tale picture books. This episode was based on a picture book that Doctor M'Benga (played by Babs Olusanmokun) often read to his daughter Rukiya (played by Sage Arrindell). (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14426856/)
Without giving too much away, let's just say the episode touched on a very sensitive parenting topic and the difficult decisions parents sometime have to make concerning their children. Kudos to the way that they handled this sensitive topic. It was very touching.

Christmas in Evergreen: Bells are Ringing
Each movie will be given a rating between 1 to 5 after initial viewing. 1 being a movie I will probably not watch past the first time. 5 being a new holiday favorite that I will be watching multiple times through out the season.
Let’s go! Alright so I was debating on if I wanted to write this review or not. Anyone who is familiar with Christmas in Evergreen knows that this is a series of movies. Bells are Ringing is the 4th movie in the series. Now I’ve only seen the original Evergreen. I didn’t mind the first movie at all. In terms of the other 2 prior to this one, I have not seen them to judge them in anyway. I thought that since this was still technically a 2020 Hallmark holiday movie premiere it only be fair to watch and review it like I have the others. Now obviously there have been storylines that have been going through out these films. So I’m going to try my best to review this movie based off on both just this movie and possibly comparing it to the first one. So the overall plot was nice. The biggest thing I was invested in during the movie was Hannah and Elliott. I enjoyed their part of the story. The other characters/stories were fine but nothing outstanding for me. I’m gonna assume that is because I have yet to see the 2 other movies. Moving on to the more likely leads of the movie since these are more known as ensemble films. I thought they were great. Both Rukiya and Antonio were great leads. I would love to see them as front runners more often. Their chemistry was spot on and I enjoyed their story. The 3 kisses were sweet as well. Overall the movie was fine. Not a huge standout to me. But again I’m someone who tries to base movies series as they are told. This movie is clearly the 4th installment so there’s obviously gaps and stories I’ve missed between the first and this film.
Rating: 3/5 - Only because I have yet to watch all 4 movies. Maybe when I finally watch all 4 I’ll see this movie in a different way. But overall it wasn’t bad and based off of this movie alone, it doesn’t seem like the Evergreen series is going away anytime soon storyline wise. 2

Van Helsing(S02E03): "Love Bites"
Van Helsing(S02E03): “Love Bites”
So this episode was really good but it also lead to an ending I didn’t see coming, this episode really tugged at my heart strings when it came to Vanessa (Kelly Overton) and Dylan (Hannah Cheramy) scenes. Why did that ending have to happen, why? Lets get to this review before I cry, I just might cry while writing this review! So in this episode we had revealed to us Julius (Aleks Paunovic)…

Rukiya Reads: The Elements of Style (Part 1)
The classic writer’s manual that tons of people hate for some reason. (Synopsis)
To all of you who involuntarily sighed in exasperation when you saw that title, I cordially invite you to Deal With It. Also, admit that it’s a slick title. Say it out loud and tell me you don’t feel 10% classier.
(Note: I’ll only be talking about the introduction and sections I-IV of this book. An Approach to Style, E.B. White’s section, is a totally different animal.)
Rundown for the uninitiated: William Strunk made a short book of writing etiquette for his students at Cornell in 1918. One of his students was E. B. White, who remembered the book 40 years later and said, “hey, that was a helpful book,” added some more stuff, and then published it. The Elements of Style covers some language basics, such as when to use a period vs. a comma, what constitutes a paragraph, how to make your sentences sound like a sane person wrote them, etc. You know how you’ve been told not to use passive voice? Yeah, it’s because of these guys. It’s not really a grammar book, though there are those who use it that way, but I feel like that’s on them for not checking.
Some people find The Elements outdated, hypocritical, and imperious. Those judgments aren’t necessarily wrong, but they sometimes take on a tone of furious indignation, as if the book personally attacked them somehow. This Pullum guy is especially pissed off. (Pullum, my dude, chill out. It’s only a book. Did something happen? Do you need a hug?) It just makes me wonder if these critics totally missed E. B. White’s introduction. If so, then they ignored key insights by the man who wrote the Greatest Book Ever Written, so I have nothing to say to them, except:
You’ve got some attitude, mister.
The introduction alone is a great read; it paints a vivid picture of the man whose “sharp commands” have benefited many great writers, but seriously chafed others. Why though? White says in the intro that even he can’t totally adhere to Strunk’s standards, that style rules are “a matter of individual preference” and that even established grammar rules are “open to challenge.” I know that White didn’t write the whole book, but he was close friends with the man who wrote the original, and Strunk knew what he was about, son.
“Professor Strunk, although one of the most inflexible and choosy of men, was quick to acknowledge the fallacy of inflexibility and the danger of doctrine.” — E.B. White (Strunk & White, 1959, p. xvii)
As if to prove a point, that above quote brazenly walks all over this decree from the Principles of Composition chapter: “The subject of a sentence and the principle verb should not, as a rule, be separated by a phrase or clause that can be transferred to the beginning.” (p. 29) This isn’t the only time the two authors break their own rules either, they do it a lot. So WTF, Strunk and White?
I’ll tell you WTF. Inflexibility and doctrine are serious problems to an unconventional and versatile writer, if that writer is already skilled. We have to know the rules before we can be good at breaking them. Maybe you think that’s B.S., but for those of us who’ve written something we know is terrible, without knowing why, the cure to our frustration is probably not to change all the periods to semi-colons and put all the sentences in the passive voice.
Strunk created this book for his students, probably so he could get through their papers with ink still left in his red pen. New writers should learn something about how to write effectively, which is different from just knowing the rules of grammar. I’m firmly on Strunk’s side on that point, and not just because he is an advocate of semicolons. (Although that is a big part of it. I freaking love semicolons and it’s sad that they’re not more appreciated. I have removed more than a few of them from my writing in shame, but NEVER AGAIN, SUCKERS!)
I think the problem is that Strunk’s voice reminds people of that one teacher most of us had in high school. The teacher who wouldn’t accept any work they deemed “not our best” and ignored or even mocked us when we disagreed with their methods. Hopefully at some point we realized that that teacher actually wanted us to succeed. They knew that, as teenagers, we had yet to grasp what the world was going to demand from us. Maybe the teacher’s standards were flawed, or different from ours, but the principle of the lesson holds up: The world is challenging, so know exactly what you’re capable of and stand by that. Find your real “A” game and then bring it.
The core principle in The Elements of Style can be summed up in this quote from E. B. White.
“[Strunk] felt it was worse to be irresolute than to be wrong.” —Sam Roberts (NY Times, April 21, 2009)
Strunk and White don’t hate the passive voice or elaborate prose; they hate periphrastic writing.* The book’s value is not in its individual parts, but the overall message of its advice: Say what you mean and say it clearly. Write with conviction. Write with sincerity. Avoid words that interfere with the most coherent and truest expression of your idea. Know when to shut up and let your story speak for itself.
I would not recommend going over every bit of one’s writing and making it adhere to every single rule in the book. If E.B. White couldn’t do it, then I wouldn’t even bother. (I didn’t when I wrote this.) Instead, use the book to learn consistency and self-assurance. Strunk’s advice to “omit needless words” isn’t about brevity for the sake of brevity. It’s about confidence. Great writing doesn’t hesitate.
If you use the book for nothing else, at least read the “Most Commonly Misused Words” chapter; it’s a magical joy ride of English major heaven. Plus, Strunk lays down some harsh burns. I leave you with one of my favorites.
Concerning a paragraph where all the sentences are made of two conjoined clauses that an actual person actually wrote:
“Apart from its triteness and emptiness, the paragraph above is bad because of its sentences, with their mechanical symmetry and singsong.”
Ouch, dude. OUCH.
—
*Ok, White might actually hate elaborate prose, but I’ll get to that in Part 2.
(Disclaimer: I know the synopsis article I chose already mentions two of my main points, but I’d written most of this before I found it and I wasn’t about to rewrite it. They get credit for the quote, though.)

Van helsing season 2 episode 1 netflix
Van helsing season 2 episode 1 netflix series#
Will There Ever Be an Official Trailer for Van Helsing Season 6? Jonathan Scarfe portrayed Axel Miller, Christopher Heyerdahl portrayed Samuel, David Cubitt portrayed John, Vincent Gale portrayed Phil, Rukiya Bernard portrayed Sarah, Trezzo Mahoro portrayed Mohamad, and Tim Guinee portrayed Ted. Last season’s Van Helsing cast included Kelly Overton, who played Vanessa Van Helsing, a lady with the unique ability to transform vampires into humans.
Van helsing season 2 episode 1 netflix series#
The Expected Cast of Van Helsing Season 6īecause the series was ended following the fifth season, Van Helsing Season 6 will feature no new cast members. Because, all the possible doors were shut in the closure of the previous season, leaving us clueless about an upcoming plot, if renewed. If the show is by chance renewed for a sixth season, then we expect an entirely different plot, which we cannot foresee. The series chronicles Vanessa’s adventures as she searches for her daughter and discovers her unusual talent to transform vampires into humans. When Vanessa reawakens the second time, she realizes that she is unable to convert into a vampire despite the vampire’s bite. They open the doors for the residents and discover a group of vampires hounding the hospital and security guards, shooting them. The guard is unable to comprehend his remarks and proceeds to the door, where he encounters a gathering of individuals attempting to enter the hospital. The doctor informs the security guard that they are approaching. A security officer at the same hospital administers blood to an odd-looking doctor who is in a critical condition within a closed chamber. The series then flashes back thirty-six hours to an unconscious Vanessa laying in a hospital bed. She is able to repel the vampires in some way. Vanessa is bitten in the neck by one of the vampires, but her blood makes the vampire ill, and he begins vomiting. Vanessa awakens in a hospital, where she discovers vampires prowling her room. The story begins in 2019 when civilization has collapsed and vampires have taken control of the earth. Vanessa Van Helsing is the protagonist of the series, who awakens in a vampire apocalyptic world. Van Helsing Season 6 will not occur in the future, thus viewers should abandon their dreams. Season 6 Van Helsing Story: What Could Be It? Syfy has previously declared that the series will not return for a sixth season, and season 5 marked the end of Van Helsing’s run. To the dismay of fans, the creators chose to stop the series with season 5 in 2019. Numerous people felt the same way about the series. The producers neatly finished the previous season, leaving no space for speculation, although many fans suspected that the series might return with season 6 in the future. Between April 16, 2021, and June 25, 2021, Season 5 broadcast 13 episodes. Many fans have binge-watched the entire series in one sitting and are eagerly awaiting the release of season 6. In his review of Van Helsing, Keith Uhlich of The Hollywood Reporter wrote: “It’s very good… or is at least, to paraphrase that old critic’s saw, ‘better than it has any right to be’.” Will There Be a Van Helsing Season 6? The series’ pilot episode scored 4.5 stars from Den of Geek. In the post-apocalyptic world where vampires roam freely, the world has said farewell to the sun, and thus nothing prevents vampires from emerging and playing. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where vampires have taken over and humanity’ only defense is to battle them. Even though the series has lost a large number of potential viewers, many continue to watch it for the purpose of watching something. The series had a lot of potential, but after the second season, the series’ popularity began to dwindle. Van Helsing appears to have fallen into the same group. According to IMDB, 22k people have seen the series, albeit the rating is a little low since they enjoyed the first two seasons but found the series dwindling in the final three.īy and large, many series lose their true context after a certain number of installments. Due to the series’ global popularity, Van Helsing was released in five chapters on June 25, 2021. Van Helsing has aired five seasons so far, with each episode running approximately 43 minutes. Neil LaBute conceived the series, which is directed by David Winning. The series is based on the novel Helsing by Zenescope Entertainment. User Review
Author:
Rating: 8/10 In my many of my prior reviews I have "beaten the drum" on one particular theme — namely, that back in the days before CGI and the studios' ravenous hunger for new franchises to monetize indefinitely, films worked based on the ability of the director and the stars to "connect" with the audience.
One word. Connection. But the implications can be astounding.
Colossal, for example, reminded me of 1966's Georgy Girl, oddly also a story about a young girl whose Life needs a complete remake, and she more or less has to start over from scratch.
Georgy Girl was a major hit in the 1960s — without any sci-fi elements or SFX — because, somewhere around the 5 minute mark, everyone in the theatre, even the guys, began to identify with the character. In other words, connection. Once you have connection, anything is possible.
Recommended. Sit back. Think of times in your own life when all four wheels fell off the wagon. Enjoy it.
And pay special attention to Hathaway's wonderful performance. For an A-list star who was weaned in the Disney studio, and held her own against Batman, she dons a hairdo that looks like it was done by a local vet … and then proceeds to sell the role so effectively that, after a while, you honestly wonder if anyone else could have played the lead?
