Took a weekend break. ROTS comic adaptation reading part 2 (no one asked for this but I like sharing my thoughts with the 2 people who read them). This one's shorter bc it's just stuff from issue 4
Jumping straight to the Mustafar battle I don't think he does this? It is an ep I Obi-Wan thing to do however. He should jump thank you
Oh my god they are👌 I'm going to squeeze them
This is so???? I do not like the changes idc if they're from the original script. "...But I won't help you."?? It feels very weird idk
OK ignore depressed Yoda but does whoever wrote this not know how pregnancy works? Ofc she's still gonna appear pregnant isn't that just how it works? Like as far as I know there's no need to make it appear so, I guess there is a difference but the belly doesn't simply disappear after birth, right? A woman will probably look pregnant if she dies after giving birth, would she not? Yoda wtf
CRIMINAL to take away the Padmé funeral scene. It has so much meaning and works so well with the Vader scene what was the reason
Beautiful moment but to be completely honest Bail and Leia's eyes kinda ruin it. Terrifying baby.
Very funny to me how the artist clearly references most of the scenes after ROTS but for Beru & Owen he decided to make them look like their ANH selves for no apparent reason. Did you not like Beru's Prequels haircut. Why. Also why are Owen and the Eopie (Akkani if you ask the OWK show but then again do you) in frame? Owen I get even if he isn't there in the movie but Akkani. Girly. Give them space.
Good comic overall because it's just a ROTS adaptation. It doesn't add too much but removes too much and it doesn't give the story anything it didn't have before except Quinlan Vos blowing up. Pretty meh as a comic, no real reason for its existence but then again Quinlan blowing up was pretty funny. 2.5/5. It's ROTS but underwhelming with some funny faces (and Quinlan blowing up).

The Legend of the Jungle
· In the story, the jungle that will be seen in the story will take place in Ninjago, and will not be a canonical jungle as seen in the series. The Ninjago jungle is one of the most sacred and enormous in the world, it has numerous origin stories, but the most famous one told is about how the animals that first set foot in this jungle are elephants. Local villages say that elephants were the animals that spread the jungle by creating numerous mountains with their footprints, creating rivers with their tusks, and increasing the growth of trees with their tromps. That is, why elephants are sacred in the jungle and all animals show them respect, they do not talk much, but their actions say a lot, also, they travel a lot through the jungle, that is why they are not seen much in the same place.
· The first animals that arrived in this jungle lived together in peace and established the "Laws of the Jungle" and this applied to each animal that lived in the jungle, the same jungle even gave all animals the gift of speech and other languages to that they could coexist better with each other, even, if they wanted, animals could communicate with humans. Not many animals decided to use the gift of speech, but even without speaking, animals could understand each other.
· Elephants are the ones who protect the jungle, every living being in the jungle shows them respect by bowing before them, and they are the only ones who understand the jungle best, they know when the jungle is in danger or when an animal shows itself to be a threat to the entire jungle and its inhabitants. But there are herds that govern their parts of the jungle, each animal maintains its territory, that is part of the Law of the Jungle, and there are seasons in which sometimes hunting is prohibited and the animals coexist in peace, breaking these laws means exile on the Eastern side of the jungle, a dark and dry place full of numerous valleys and ruins, several of which were from human civilizations, and where almost no sunlight is enough and many animals do not go there due to scarcity of food and water.
· The eastern side of the jungle is mainly inhabited by scavengers, carnivores that had broken some of the laws, or other animals that did not adapt to living in their herds or parts of the jungle. It is also inhabited by a herd of apes that is mixed by several species, and they call themselves the Bandar-Logs, this herd is led by the ape who proclaims himself "Ape King", this ape is called Chen, and he does not like following the laws of the jungle, he makes his command steal whatever he wants and bothers whoever he wants, sometimes his henchmen enter the territory of humans to steal various of their belongings and use them as decorations. There are no definitive leaders in that territory, all the animals that arrive there must kill, fight or steal to survive on their own. But also, that place is known as "The Lawless Territory", and many are prohibited from going there.
· On the edge of the Ninjago jungle is the Man Village, or Jamanakai Village as the humans named it, this village has existed for a long time and continues to thrive in modern years, although it is not as expandable as other villages, it still has humble characteristics, but not at all run down, this village marks the beginning at the entrance to the Ninjago jungle for humans living on the continent. Its inhabitants are in charge of taking proper care of the jungle, since from its beginnings the first men to arrive there affirmed that the jungle was a sacred place that should not be destroyed or changed by other human activities.
· The Jamanakai Village is a quite famous tourist place thanks to its excursions in the jungle, tourists get on vans and the guides explain each story about the jungle, very few animals are seen since humans have no idea about the existence of the Jungle Laws. The inhabitants of the village are quite vigilant in some places in the jungle to avoid hunting, which is prohibited. Although the village is not modernized, it has a road that leads directly to the city, which is where tourists come from and travel to the Jamanakai village to visit the jungle and its inhabitants.
· The town is not that big, but it has a school, a hospital, a small police station and a tower that is the control center that can contact the city. The people are only made up of farmers, shepherds, explorers, tourist guides, fishermen, artisans, teachers, doctors, bricklayers, merchants, hunters, police and mechanics. The guides, and some inhabitants of the town, teach the tourists about their traditions and festivals that they celebrate in the town, and how they highly value the jungle, since they mention that it is very special for them and the animals that live in it he, but they do mention that despite being a beautiful place it can also be a dangerous place, since if they venture into the jungle without the right guide, they may run a great risk of not being able to return alive.
· The village only has certain seasons to receive tourist visits, as the village is small, they must have a certain control to be able to receive the tourists who arrive from the city. This made the daily lives of the villagers easier.
· The jungle has several laws, but there are only three laws that are very important and sacred for the jungle, and these prevent conflicts between men and animals, which are: 1) "Do not come into contact with humans or their animals and territories", this law serves to ensure that wild animals do not bother humans, in addition to protecting animals from humans who want to follow them into the jungle. 2) "Do not destroy crops or kill you livestock human", this serves so that humans do not feel threatened by the jungle animals and also prevents them from hunting them. 3) "Never kill humans for sport", this also applies to the law of not hunting for sport for animals that hunt their prey, this last law is important, since if an animal breaks it, it can bring many dangers to the environment jungle and start a war with humans. If an animal kills or hurts a human out of legitimate defense, it will be judged by the jungle who will determine if its action was the best or not. Breaking one of these laws means immediate expulsion to the East side of the jungle.
· But one afternoon, the great black lion Omega, (who is the Oni leader of the Ninjago series), decided to break the third sacred law of the jungle; "Do not kill humans for sport." Omega attacked a group of explorers traveling through the jungle, Omega entered human territory and hunted the group while killing them one by one before they could reach Jamanakai Village. Among the group was a couple with a baby, the man tried to defend his wife and child from the ferocious black lion, he managed to hurt Omega by burning the left side of his face completely, but that made Omega angrier and he murdered without compassion, the mother tried to flee, but she had no time left when she heard the lion approaching her. The mother hid her one-year-old baby among the roots and molasses of a nearby tree, Omega he reached the mother and killed her without mercy, he tried to find the baby that the woman had but he never found it and he continued hunting the rest of the humans who were still trying to flee. The jungle had protected the little human cub.
· But that same day, the two lion brothers Kai and Nya, who belonged to one of the prides that governs the northern territory of the jungle, were walking and exploring the area. When they saw the massacre that Omega caused, they felt as if the jungle itself was leading them to the little human cub hidden among the molasses and the roots of the tree. Seeing him, Kai could see something special in him, and if the jungle protected him it must be for a reason. Kai decided to take him to his pack so he could convince Wu, his leader, to keep the little human.
· Kai managed to get Wu to reunited the entire pack and be able to decide the fate of the little human cub. Many of the lions were surprised to see the little human. Many disagreed since humans did not belong in the jungle, but upon learning of what Omega did and how he killed the other humans had understandings for the little human baby. Wu, observing the little baby, also saw something special in him, he even felt like the jungle itself was asking him to accept the little human into its pack. Wu then agreed to let the human cub live in his pack, and Kai and Nya would be in charge of raising him.
· Kai and Nya were once two orphaned cubs, after their parents died in Omega's clutches, this happened during a hunt, Omega stole their prey and then killed them when they tried to challenge him, and all this happened outside of Wu's territory. From then on the entire pride became the enemy of the black lion.
· Kai named the human cub "Lloyd," as he could see that name was engraved on one of the blankets he was wrapped in when he found him in the tree. Lloyd grew up as if he were just another lion, other lionesses who had cubs helped the two brothers in taking care of Lloyd, even other friends of Kai and Nya, who were not lions, helped with raising Lloyd. And while he was growing up, Lloyd used old fabrics left by humans to create a kind of cloth shorts that reached halfway to his knees.
· Kai and Nya never denied Lloyd that he was a human cub, they didn't want to lie to him about his origins, but the funny thing is that Lloyd never liked humans, even though he was one of them, that was because Lloyd grew up away from them and heard dangerous things about them from other animals. Wu taught him all kinds of languages so that he could understand the animals of the jungle, he even taught him the human language, but Lloyd never liked those classes, but he still had to listen to Wu since he was his leader.
· Cole, one of Kai and Nya's friends, is a black gorilla who lives in the area of giant trees with his pack. He regularly visits Kai and Nya to hang out, but now he does it more frequently to visit Lloyd, Cole's home is so high that he had to teach Lloyd from a very young age to climb trees, Lloyd thinks that Cole's home Cole is made of paths built in the air, as many of the branches and trunks are connected and appear to be paths and bridges floating in the air. Cole even taught Lloyd how to swing on the vines in the trees and get the best fruit. Several members of Cole's pack like to play with Lloyd, especially the cubs.
· Cole jokingly admits that maybe he and Lloyd could be distant relatives since they are almost identical. He gladly lets Lloyd climb on his back so they can walk through the trees together. When Lloyd creates human-like tools for himself, he uses them to more easily remove fruits from trees, something Cole enjoys since he has no difficulty reaching some fruits.
· Zane is a white wolf who will soon be the next leader of his pack along with his companion Pixal, Zane's pack is an important ally of Wu's pack, both packs are responsible for bringing balance and peace to their territories and establishing the laws of the jungle. Zane loves playing with Lloyd, together they compete in races and help Lloyd get faster, Pixal even gets along with the human cub, and even treats Lloyd to several moon howls with his pack from time to time. Lloyd even admits that he likes howling like a wolf more than roaring like a lion like his brothers.
· Zane taught Lloyd all types of howls, and how to distinguish them as signals or calls. Zane and Pixal compete with Lloyd in many races, as they help Lloyd prepare for his test with the pack which involves a lot of speed.
· Jay is a peculiar hawk with blue and white feathers who is also Kai and Nya's main source of information from above, he can see everything that happens in the jungle, and he likes to visit human territory, and when he finds a human object, It keeps it in its nest, which is a large hollow trunk that has various fruits, nuts, mice and insects. He always shows Lloyd his collection of human things, sometimes Lloyd is fascinated by him, but he still doesn't like to talk about humans, sometimes he borrows some of Jay's things to create new tools.
· Jay usually plays a lot with Lloyd in the meadows and insists that Lloyd manage to catch him. When Lloyd manages to reach the top of a rock wall, he teaches him how to sharpen his eyesight so that he can see beyond the landscapes. He tends to perch a lot on Lloyd's shoulder, but he tends to be careful with his claws, he talks a lot and tells many of the things he has seen. Kai usually says that Jay, instead of being a hawk, seems to be a cockatoo, since he doesn't stop talking talk, but that doesn't bother Lloyd, he loves spending time with him. He plays with Cole's food sometimes too.
· Lloyd has three best friends, and they are: Kataru, the bear cub, Akita, the lonely white wolf cub, and Brad, the fox. They play a lot of hide-and-seek and races, they also like to climb for fruit, hunt mice and crawl through holes in the jungle. They usually go to bathe in a small lake where many species gather to drink water or to rest. They even play there along with other animals. Kataru even climbs in places where honey is found, and usually brings several pieces so that his friends can also enjoy this juicy delicacy. Akita is the fastest, and usually plays a lot with Lloyd at running or catching, and Akita always ends up being the winner. Brad teaches Lloyd how to hide and camouflage himself in the jungle so he doesn't get caught so easily.
· Sometimes Lloyd visits the famous peacock Dareth with his friends, a bird that loves attention too much and enjoys being seen and praised by humans. He doesn't mind humans taking photos of him, and even poses for them. Lloyd finds it absurd that Dareth is loved by humans just for his poses, but Dareth always says it's because of his beauty and charming feathers. Kai always prays that one day the humans will take Dareth since he can't stand that he is always talking about himself, he admits that he is worse than Jay. Even all the female birds worship Dareth.
· Lloyd knows about elephants, he has never seen them, but he has heard amazing stories about them, he hopes to one day see an elephant, and he knows very well that he must bow to them to show them respect. Wu, apart from being their leader, is also their teacher, as well as that of other young lions who train to join the pride and earn their manes.
· Lloyd has always been a curious child, he has seen man's machines, such as airplanes, helicopters and automobiles, but only from a distance, he considers them to be mutant metal creatures that transport humans to any place, from a hill he can see times how humans live, see how they even make a big bonfire in the middle of the village and celebrate around it. Lloyd doesn't want anything to do with the humans, but he can't help but look at the human village.
· Lloyd creates various tools and tricks to improve his life in the jungle, Wu allowed him to perform his tricks, but did not let him show them to the other animals in the jungle since they would be scared and see it strange. He created his own bed inside the cave where he and his brothers live, but he still likes to sleep curled up with his brothers, especially with Kai, on cold nights he likes to curl up on his back to be closer to his mane.
· Lloyd created a necklace that contains two of his brothers' fangs and two locks of hair from each one, he considers it his most precious treasure. His first weapon was a spear made from a sharpened stick and stone that he regularly used to fish and gather fruit from the treetops. And to imitate the claws of his brothers, he made himself a stone knife that he uses in hunting practices with his brothers.
· He doesn't eat a lot of raw meat, but he does eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, some insects and nuts. Mangos have always been his favorites. Nya usually runs through the grasslands with Lloyd on her back, and Kai does the same, but they always venture into the jungle and jump over the hills. Kai taught Lloyd the art of hunting, he taught him to never hunt for sport. Kai and Nya act like parents to Lloyd, they love him so much that they are almost always by his side. There are nights when the three of them leave their cave and look at the stars, Kai always mentions to Lloyd that the stars are the souls of all living beings, when an animal dies, a new star is born.
· The pack has no problem with Lloyd, they treat him like one of their own, and the pups enjoy playing with him. Lloyd and a group of young lions train together with Wu to pass the pride test, which will be assigned to all of them in order to be official members of the pride and earn their manes, meaning that they can now grow up as proud lions.
· The pride test consists of the young lions hunting their first prey in an agreed area with a time limit, the young ones must bring their prey before the time runs out, if they manage to bring their prey before the when the time is up, they will pass the test and be accepted into the pack and thus earn their manes. Since then, Lloyd trains hard to earn the right to belong to the pack, which is why he always trains with his brothers and friends in order to pass the test.
· The day of the test finally arrived, and it was a day after Lloyd turned his tenth birthday. Lloyd ran so fast to reach the deer he chose as his prey. Not having claws like his brothers, Lloyd used his knife as a weapon. Before time ran out, Lloyd finally managed to reach his prey and bring it to Wu, the pack and his friends celebrated his success by becoming an official member of the pack and earning his mane. Kai and Nya were very proud of their little brother, and Wu was proud of how far Lloyd went living in the jungle, but for some reason he felt that this peace was not going to last long.
· A few days later, a great drought came to the jungle, and it was one of the worst that has been seen in centuries in the jungle, the rivers and some lakes dried up, once that happens, at the foot of the great river it begins the "Water Truce", and the law of the jungle prohibits species from hunting on the banks of the river, and they can only live together in peace until the rains return and begin to fill the rivers and lakes of the jungle.
· When Lloyd and his herd went to drink at the river they saw that all species of animals were gathered there, even the elephants came there, that was the first time Lloyd saw elephants. The next day when they went to the river again, the animals became concerned when they saw that some scavengers had also gathered to drink in the river, and not only that, but Omega, the black lion, had also arrived.
· Omega, despite being known for killing humans, is also feared because he always hunts all the animals in the jungle for sport, he even challenges other carnivores to demonstrate his strength, everyone in the jungle fears him, but Omega knows that he cannot cross some regions because of the packs that rule there, the Wu pack is his main enemy. It is said that Omega was the one who eliminated several members of his own pack for not agreeing with his actions against men, in addition to demonstrating his own strength. The burn marks on the left side of his face show how the man was able to wound him with fire, and they are scars that Omega hates.
· When Omega sees Lloyd for the first time, he realizes that the human cub that lives in Wu's pack is the baby he couldn't kill that day in the jungle when he attacked the group of humans they were exploring. Omega taunts Wu by proclaiming that Lloyd will one day grow up and no longer be a cub, but a man, and mentions that the law forbids men in the jungle. Wu and his command defend Lloyd and Omega threatens that as soon as the rivers flow again in the jungle and the rains return, which is when the truce ends, he will not hesitate to go hunt Lloyd.
· Omega's threat greatly alerted Wu and his pack, they knew that those who tried to protect Lloyd would risk being killed by Omega. When the first rain came after the drought the pack put more pressure on Wu to make a decision, it was then that Kai proposed taking him to Man's Village, Nya refused, of course, she insisted that they could defeat Omega, but Kai convinced he by telling him that Lloyd would be in more danger if he stayed in the jungle, now the village was the only safe place for him.
· Unknowingly, the pack was being watched by one of Omega's spies, Clouse the vulture, who overheard the conversation and did not hesitate to go and tell Omega. When he returned to the east of the jungle he met with the group that Omega had gathered, this was made up of a group of hyenas led by Vex, the Bandar-Longs, who were led by Chen, Pythor the great purple anaconda, and the twin tigers Krux and Acronix, to differentiate them was through the color of their eyes, Krux had dark green eyes and Acronix had grayish blue eyes. There were other scavengers there but they preferred not to be in Omega's group. Several of the group only joined Omega out of fear, more apart from the promise of taking several of the jungle territories.
· When Omega was informed that Lloyd would be sent to the Man Village he ordered his followers to go find the human cub and bring it to him, Omega would not let Lloyd be sent to the village, he would rather kill the pack of Wu than to let his human prey be taken from him.
· Meanwhile, in the life of the Jamanakai Village things do not seem to be going very well, Sorla, head of the village, temporarily banned the entry of several tourists since they are suffering attacks from the ferocious black lion, (that is, Omega), who has been destroying several of their crops, equipment in the jungle and has killed many livestock animals of the inhabitants, when some explorers went to investigate the whereabouts of the lion, several of them managed to survive its attack and returned to the village injureds, Sorla even canceled tours for tourists because he doesn't want to risk them being attacked by the black lion. For now, only the town allows some tourists to walk around the town area and they are no longer allowed to enter the jungle.
· Sorla and other people from the town managed to make contact for help in the city so that they could bring expert hunters so that they could only hunt the black lion, since it has been causing a lot of havoc in the areas where people were exploring parts of the jungle, more seeing how his cattle are being slaughtered by that lion, and after the explorers returned wounded, Sorla knew that he could no longer allow that ferocious lion to continue roaming around the areas of his village.
· A group of expert hunters went to the village, two of those hunters were Ronin, who lives in the city, and the hunter who calls himself Iron Baron, but everyone in the village only calls him Baron, he is a hunter who comes from another country, and upon hearing the news of the great black lion, he did not miss the opportunity to finally hunt one of the animals of the Ninjago jungle. In addition, the town offered a great reward for capturing the lion, whether it was alive or dead.
· Ronin is a solitary hunter, but he was welcomed into the village and appreciated for its hospitality. He is one-eyed, since his left eye was gouged out in a hunt that went wrong, but he still managed to capture the wild animal that attacked him. He usually goes to the town bar a lot, but they always find him preparing his equipment in the cabin where he stays. Many children usually go with him to listen to his hunting stories, and he does not mind the company of the town's little ones.
· Baron on the other hand is quite harsh with everyone, the town only accepts him because he has a great history of successful hunts, but still the authorities keep an eye on him since they know that Baron is also a poacher, since he hunts for sport, and they fear that he will hunt the other animals in the jungle without Sorla's permission. He usually annoys Ronin a lot, and always competes with everyone, he is a quite self-centered and intimidating man, he doesn't mind showing the scars on his face and never lets anyone touch his things, he even brought the collection of animals dissected.
· One of the most important couples lives in the village, the Montgomery couple: Garmadon and Misako, they were born and grew up together in the village, they completed their studies in the city and then again returned to their village to live peacefully. They never managed to have children, but still hope that one day they will be blessed to start a family. They usually help Sorla a lot with the village and tourists, they live a little far from the village in a large country house. Garmadon works as a jungle guide and explorer, he usually takes several tourists in his truck and tells them everything about the jungle, since he grew up hearing all the legends about the Ninjago jungle. Misako is one of the village teachers, and she loves to spend time with all the children, from time to time she goes with her husband and the explorers to explore the jungle, and she loves taking photos of the flora and fauna of the jungle, she even famous thanks to her articles about the Ninjago jungle.
· Garmadon got along well with Ronin, but he doesn't like Baron at all. He guides the hunters where the black lion attacks occur and tells them where he always attacks livestock, he helps Ronin set traps to capture him, normally Ronin only sets non-lethal traps for the lion, he only sets traps so that he is trapped and cannot escaping, on the other hand, Baron, only sets deadly traps, they are even capable of killing a man if they are not careful. Garmadon tried to convince Sorla that Baron was untrustworthy and would only bring trouble, but Sorla was more worried about the black lion than Baron. Furthermore, Sorla confirmed to Garmadon that the local police are keeping a good eye on Baron, since they know his criminal record as a poacher.
· Skylor, Sorla's second-in-command, also lives in the village, as she raised her after being orphaned. She is very close to Garmadon and Misako and always travels to the city to bring resources for the village. She is a very good explorer and when Sorla is not there she is in charge of the town, she usually goes out a lot with three orphaned children who are also in Sorla's care and occasionally Garmadon and Misako, their names are Morro, Harumi and Echo are not siblings, but Their parents died of natural causes, and since the three of them grew up together with Sorla, they are very good friends.
· Morro's parents died when he was young due to smallpox that they both contracted, the smallpox was so strong that they both could not bear it and died, Morro luckily was able to save himself and is now in the care of Sorla and sometimes by the couple Garmadon and Misako, he wants very much to be a hunter, but a hunter like Ronin, someone who does not abuse nature and only hunts when necessary or for protection reasons.
· Harumi lost her father long before she was born due to natural causes and her mother died days after giving birth to her. Since then he grew up under the care of Sorla, Skylor, Garmadon and Misako. She normally works alongside the other women of the village in household chores and chores around the village, she has no intention of leaving the village as it is her home, and she is the best in her class at school.
· Echo lost his mother after he was born and his father raised him ever since, but he died from a terminal illness and was cared for by Sorla and Skylor. He is a fairly shy child, but very hard-working and good. He likes helping out on farms and fishing, and is pretty good at taking care of animals. He wishes to one day go to the city so he can study medicine and become a good doctor for his village.
· When Kai tried to convince Lloyd to go to the man village he refused. Lloyd doesn't want to leave the jungle, he knows that humans are his species, but he doesn't want to leave the home he always knew. Ka tries to convince him that it is for his own good, but Lloyd still refuses to go to the village. But knowing that the rivers would soon fill up and that Omega's threat had everyone in the pack very scared, Lloyd had to make the decision to leave for the good of his pack and his family.
· Kai and Nya offered to personally take Lloyd to the Man's Village, fearing that Omega was sneaking around, they not wanting to leave their little brother alone. Wu approved of this, but before Lloyd left, Wu told him that he will always be a part of his pack and the jungle. Lloyd even got to say a good goodbye to his friends and promised them that he would find a way to visit them once he got to the village.
· Along the way Lloyd insisted that perhaps there is another way to stay in the jungle, but Kai mentioned to him that the topic was not up for discussion, in addition to telling his little brother that a lion like Omega is not something to be taken lightly, during the journey, Kai and Nya told Lloyd about what they knew about Omega, and how he murdered their human parents. Kai also told Lloyd that Omega had murdered his and Nya's parents during a hunt. The three brothers had to take the long way to avoid being chased by Omega, even knowing that this way would take them a few days to reach the village, they knew it was the best option.
· But still, the brothers were chased by Clouse and some members of his species from the air, Omega had devised a plan to capture Lloyd, but for that to work, he must need the help of Chen and his Bandar-Logs. When they stopped to rest by the river, Lloyd was attacked and kidnapped by the Bandar-Logs, seeing that they would take Lloyd to the east side of the jungle, Kai told Nya to go get help while he tried to track down Lloyd and the Bandar-Logs.
· Lloyd was taken to some ruins on top of a hill, that place was the lair of the Bandar-Logs, there Chen kept him as his prisoner while Omega arrived at the place, just at that moment Lloyd saw many scavengers gathered, the anaconda Pyhthor, Clouse and his band of vultures, plus Vex and his hyenas and the twin tigers, Krux and Acronix. Everyone present revealed to Lloyd their hatred for humans, but just then Omega arrived.
· Kai barely arrived at the hills of the ruins where the Bandar-Logs took Lloyd, Nya and her other friends also arrived just in time to support Kai, it was lucky that Jay knew a shorter way to get to the east side of the jungle.
· Omega caused a deep cut to Lloyd on his left arm and before he ended his life, Kai, Nya and the others broke into the ruins, Omega ordered them to attack them, but Cole luckily managed to make several columns were destroyed and the ruins began to collapse before everyone, the frightened scavengers fled the place, as well as the followers of Omega, Pythor was lucky not to be crushed to death. Cole took Lloyd and after disposing of other Bandar-Logs, Lloyd, his brothers and his friends managed to successfully escape from the place.
· This failure caused Omega's anger to grow more, he gathered his followers again, who at first tried to complain about his failure, especially Chen since he blamed Omega for losing his home, but after seeing Omega's anger they remained silent. Omega ordered that they look for more followers like them as he planned to take over the entire jungle, and once that happened, he would let everyone take and eat whatever they wanted, there would no longer be anyone else to implicate the laws of the jungle, and make the Men's Village would disappear forever. Seeing that Omega's promise would benefit all the scavengers, they did not hesitate to follow his orders and gather more followers to their cause.
· After carrying Lloyd to safety and tending to his wounds, Kai knew that he should waste no time and take Lloyd directly to Man's Village. Kai decided that he will be the only one to take Lloyd to town. Kai and Lloyd took the main and fast road that leads to the town, but as soon as they reached a meadow, which was already territory where humans passed, there they found some buffaloes grazing, but they were attacked by some men who seemed hunters, Lloyd hid and Kai managed to flee into the jungle again thanks to the distraction of the buffaloes. Lloyd tried to reunite with his brother but fell into one of the traps Baron, was a hole with very sharp wooden stakes, Lloyd was lucky not to impale himself on one of the wooden stakes, however, he hit his head hard and was knocked unconscious.
· Garmadon, upon seeing that the lion escaped, saw that something activated one of Baron's traps. When he went to check, he saw that there was a boy, apparently 10 years old, and he seemed to be injured, but the most surprising thing was to see how little he was clothes, it didn't seem to be normal clothes, and he only had some kind of shorts made of cloth that were almost in rags, he didn't seem to be one of the children of the village, and he knew them all, he knew that this child was lost, he didn't hesitate get him out of the hole and take him quickly to the hospital, he even scolded Baron for seeing how a little boy fell into his death trap.
· Kai did not leave human territory, and saw from afar how the men took his little brother, however he decided to go in search of Jay so he could obtain more information about Lloyd within the town.
· Lloyd woke up in the hospital, but he was disoriented, he was quite scared when he didn't see his brother and saw that he was not in the jungle. When he looked out the window of his room, he discovered that he was taken to the Man's Village, he had finally arrived, but he felt scared, he didn't know whether to escape from the village now, but if he did that, he knew that it would make the effort of his brothers and friends would be in vain, but still, he wanted to know what happened to Kai. Furthermore, he discovered that his previous wounds were better treated and bandaged with clean bandages.
· Garmadon and Misako were the ones who visited him first, they asked him several questions about whether he was lost or if he had family somewhere, but Lloyd did not answer, the couple thought that he was still affected by the accident, but Lloyd not want to talk to the humans, but I could sense that the couple had no bad intentions, but I still didn't trust them.
· Lloyd spent two days in his hospital room, the doctors did not approach him so as not to scare him, however, if they left him food, Lloyd did not understand the food in the Men's Village, when he tried it he found it delicious, it's something he's never seen before he has seen in the jungle, he knew that if Cole were here he would love human food. When he finished the second day and the new night arrived, he heard Jay's scream from outside, Lloyd went out of the window and skillfully descended from the second floor of the hospital. Lloyd met up with Jay and the blue falcon mentioned that Kai was waiting for him at the jungle entrance.
· Lloyd wasted no time and stealthily managed to leave the town without the humans who were still there noticing. Upon entering the jungle he met Kai there, Lloyd was happy to see his brother again and see that he was okay, Kai was also happy to see his little brother, Kai could see that the humans were taking good care of Lloyd, he saw that they healed his wounds better and gave him more comfortable clothes. Lloyd confirmed to Kai that the village might not be his home, but Kai convinced him that he just needed to get used to it and that maybe one day he would like to live there among his people.
· However, what Lloyd wanted was to not stop seeing his family, Kai mentioned that it would be dangerous for him and the others to approach the village, even more so knowing that there were human hunters and traps. But Kai promised him that they would go visit him and inform him of everything that was happening in the jungle, Kai even mentioned to Lloyd that Nya and Wu, plus his other friends, already knew that he had arrived safely at the village.
· Lloyd and Kai stay together for a while, but as Kai was leaving, Lloyd told him that he was afraid, Kai could only tell him that he had to be brave and adapt to the human village, but he promised him that as soon as Omega's threat If he disappeared, he would visit him more often in the village, and maybe he would run through the jungle again while Lloyd rode on his back, like before. That promise calmed Lloyd down a bit. After Kai left, Lloyd returned to the hospital room where she was staying. Lloyd knew that he had to get used to living like humans did.
· The next day, Lloyd was visited again by the nice Montgomery couple and also by the village chief, Sorla, apparently they wanted to ask him some questions in front of the village council, since Lloyd was not a child of the village, they had to investigate where it came from. Lloyd was taken to a large cabin where the most important people of the Jamanakai Village gathered. When the council met, Sorla began by asking Lloyd if he had any family, obviously he said no, he thought that if he told them that his family were lions they wouldn't believe him, besides, Lloyd didn't want to put his brothers in danger. Then they asked him where he came from, Lloyd could only answer that he came from the jungle, obviously the council was impressed by that, Lloyd also told them his name and that he only came from the jungle, but that was it.
· After asking Lloyd questions, the council and Sorla attempted to investigate cases of missing children. Several of the councilors did not believe that a child as young as 10 could have survived long in the jungle, much less alone. They offered to go to town to investigate whether Lloyd had been reported as a missing child. Now the only thing left to do was see who would take care of Lloyd, so Garmadon and Misako offered to take care of him.
· Garmadon and Misako took Lloyd home, Lloyd obviously looked fearful, but still went with them. The couple could notice that the boy seemed too amazed and afraid of several things, they noticed that he looked very curiously at his car and when they got home, Lloyd began to wander around the place, as if he were studying his new environment like an animal. Misako was the one who showed him his new room and both adults knew that they must help Lloyd a lot so that he could integrate well with the others in the village.
· Garmadon and Misako immediately noticed that Lloyd was not a normal child, they found him sleeping several times on one of the wooden beams in his room and sometimes in the large tree that was outside his house. They also saw him eat some insects and talk to some animals. They saw that he ate a lot of fruit and sometimes raw meat, the couple no longer had any doubt that apparently Lloyd did find himself living for quite some time in the jungle. Lloyd spoke very little with the two of them, but with Misako's help he was able to communicate well little by little.
· Garmadon helped Lloyd explore the village better; Morro, Harumi and Echo soon became curious about him. But it seemed that Morro did not get along with Lloyd at first seeing him as an outsider and a strange wild child who came out of nowhere in the jungle, sometimes Morro would make fun of Lloyd for talking to animals, however, Lloyd managed to impress him by to be the strongest, most skillful and fastest of all the children in the town. Many children were fascinated by Lloyd's incredible tree climbing and tool making skills.
· Lloyd became very close with Harumi, then became close with Echo and Morro, although his relationship with Morro did take time to warm up. Lloyd gradually saw the customs of humans and seemed to be enjoying living in the village and living with the Montgomery couple. The village alike began to treat him kindly, although of course, Lloyd still doesn't talk much about his life in the jungle. But Lloyd still missed his life in the jungle, from the top of the big tree at Garmadon's house and Misako couldn't help but see the view of the jungle, and he wondered if his brothers and friends missed him as much as he missed them.
· Lloyd was always excited to see how Jay appeared in the village and gave him the signal that Kai or Nya were going to visit him, and they always met in the same place, deep in the jungle without any human noticing. Even Cole, Zane, Pixal, Akita, Kataru and Brad came to visit him. But this did not happen often, since Kai mentioned to Lloyd that Omega and his followers began to cause destruction in some territories of the jungle. Kai also mentioned that Wu did everything possible to prevent Omega from taking control of his territory.
· Omega's actions only got worse, Omega continued to destroy the crops, destroyed several of the hunters' traps and continued to murder the village's livestock, killing many animals in the jungle and letting his followers attack several herds to steal their food. One day, Omega had come to Wu to proclaim the human cub, but when Wu confirmed that he was already in the Man Village, Omega continued to pester Wu. Wu knew that Omega sought to cause a war between the other packs and the army he had gathered, Wu knew that this would bring great chaos to the jungle and cause the men to completely overrun it.
· Lloyd wanted to help his brothers with the problem with Omega, but they insisted that he forget about it and focus on living peacefully in the village. Lloyd however knew that he would have no peace if the jungle had no peace either, and he knew from Garmadon that the hunters would not hesitate to invade the jungle even further if Omega continued to attack the humans' livestock. Lloyd had to find a solution and quickly, otherwise the entire jungle and even the village itself would fall into disgrace.

While I'm finishing off things I should have done to some degree of urgency or the other:
Review of A Searing Faith by Audrey Martin
A Searing Faith is the first book of The Heart Pyre series, based on the podcast by the same name. This book is an adaptation of the first season, the next one will probably be out sometimes this year. Also worth noting is that Audrey Martin is Luxembourgish, and that I know her personally. So this book was rather high on my To Read List. (Martin is also here on Tumbr, as @audreywritesfantasy. Moien, Audrey...)
Sixteen-year-old Rena skips school to gather herbs in the forest, but when she gets back, she finds her entire village aflame. There are no survivors except for her, and maybe her sister, who she suspects had been kidnapped by whoever set the fire. The only clue Rena has is her sister's ring, and a bird figurine made out of clay that she finds in the ruins. Still, Rena sets out to find the truth, helped by a group of random people she meets along the way.
I liked this book. It was an easy read, and only took me forever because I had a bunch of other things to do. One of the things Martin told me when she sold me the book at a book fair, was that she wanted to write a story where the trauma the protagonist goes through isn't just some inciting incident, but actually affects her throughout the story. I would argue that she succeeded with that. Rena's trauma feels real, she is triggered or suffers from panic attacks, and is also nerfed by being a normal village girl who has no experience with cheating the system or sneaking around Government organizations.
Another thing that I know that Martin was going for (because she said it in the tags of a Tumblr post) is for her story to be kind. I feel like this is one of the things that stands out the most: Not only Rena is acting in a very realistic way, but so are the people around her. Which is to say, when they see a terribly traumatized teenager who just lost everything, their first reaction is to help her. Rena herself is very confused by this, but decides to lean into it, and actually trust random strangers, because, well, why wouldn't they help, if all the others did? It is always so nice to find a story where the majority of the people is just kind.
So yeah, good book, I'm looking forward to the next.

Police attacked medics during the Minneapolis BLM protests last summer. They turned my city into a war zone and destroyed those trying to save it. They held us hostage. Here’s just one of my stories:
I was volunteering in an emergency medical triage center outside the Kmart at Lake St. & 32nd in Minneapolis. It had gotten too late for me to get home safe, and I wanted to be nice to my mother; stay out of harms way. I decided to stay out of the protests, and volunteer for the night at the Kmart Emergency Medical Triage Center. Built out of salvage by volunteers in a single day, it was a breathtaking symbol of what a community can do to support each other. I wish that more could have seen it. People coming out of retirement to help their city. University of Minnesota Med students coming as far as Morris and Rochester.
When curfew hit, we were given the order "If you're not here to help, LEAVE. Whoever comes through those gates, we help. I don't want A. C. A. B. preventing anyone from saving anyone else's life." Despite agreeing to treat both sides of this conflict, only one side got hurt, and the other attacked us.
I saw what I realized to be an Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) in the distance, atop an armored vehicle moving towards us and away from smoke I had not seen earlier that day. Hundreds of people ran past us, one ran up yelling "You gotta get out of here man." One of the organizers stated "We're medical, we're allowed to be here." The man cried out bluntly, urging us to seek shelter. "They don't care man, they don't care." We were treating multiple patients, themselves victims of police brutality, when a wave of dozens of law enforcement officers shot us until we were forced to abandon our post. The armored vehicle was with them, a sniper next to the LRAD. We had red cross insignias and had our hands up and were shouting "MEDIC. MEDICAL"
They said nothing. No announcement, just silence and gunshots. And the LRAD 1000, which made it feel like I was underwater, like both my body and brain were being attacked but in a way neither could comprehend. An LRAD 1000′s maximum operating distance is 3,000 meters, but its minimum is about 1,800. They were far below that. As my hearing became muffled, they just kept shooting. They shot at nurses and med students trying to save limbs and lives. Until we were forced to abandon both our patients and supplies. As I looked back I saw teargas billowing out of our hospital made out of salvage, ruining thousands of pieces of medical equipment. The leader of my station, station 4, was a retired and currently homeless veterinarian. She had been in a car crash in 2017, and could not run. Earlier I had offered to carry her to safety if necessary, even had her jump on my back. I never got the chance, and I hope to god she's alright.
We were split into 5 stations, stations 1 and 5 were the intensive care units, with ponchos on to shield from blood. My station treated a highschool girl whose hand was blackened by a teargas canister she picked up with her bare hand and lobbed back at the cops, away from unarmored civilians. That is honestly my only knowledge of any aggressive action by protestors at that point in the night. Talking with a friend who stayed with the protest, he said that even much later in the night, at the highest points of protester violence, all they threw were rocks, bottles, and insults. Not only was this a peaceful protest, but they were attacking a clearly designated emergency medical center along with these peaceful protestors.
Police Approach Kmart Emergency Medical Triage Center Police Attack Kmart Emergency Medical Triage Center WCCO interviews a college student who volunteered at Kmart Emergency Medical Triage Center
The last video has jarring personal testimony from someone on station 5.
We walked slowly at first, remaining calm, our heads tilted down so that they couldn't scan our faces. We thought it was a false alarm; an attack on a Medical Center in a war zone is a crime against humanity. We stopped for just a moment. The bullets started hailing down so much faster, and I ran, I ran as fast as I could.
I spent that night hiding in the concrete basement of an apartment building with a bunch of medics and volunteers. Not from rioters, and only barely from white supremacists. From the same cops I was so excited about saving the lives of. We had our muffled hearts beating out of our chests as we heard commotion upstairs. It was a highschool boy dragging his girlfriend to shelter. The girlfriend's face had a laceration and massive swelling from being hit in the face with a rubber bullet, and would likely have lost the eye if her boyfriend hadn't accidentally sought refuge with medics. There were search parties hunting medics, we saw cop lights through the windows. We had to work by lantern light to hide from them. Later heard news that tires in the back lot of the Kmart were slashed. LEOs, including St. Cloud police, admitted to press they slashed said tires. (conveniently leaving out that they were medics’ and journalists’). The next morning there were white supremacists circling the streets.
I later found they slashed every single tire in that lot, including the cars of multiple journalists, including international. Police attacked a clearly designated and currently active medical encampment, gassed their supplies, and slashed every single one of their tires. The Multi-Agency Command Center on Civil Unrest (MACC) announced that the tire slashing was a necessary adaption to cars being used as weapons by rioters. This was true in the days prior, but this was a peaceful protest. The MACC announcement and the tire slashing at the Triage Center were in minutes of each other. We believe that MACC's statement was a cover-up for that part of the attack. Which makes sense, given that the MACC tip line sends you to 2 places, the FBI, and the Minneapolis Police Department.
I grew up watching M*A*S*H*, I truly love the show. I was excited to help anyone I could. Instead of treating U.S. troops, we were attacked by them. They’re only exempt from being war criminals because it doesn’t count when you do it to your own citizens.
The girlfriend's favorite song is You Got Me by Erykah Badu & The Roots. A few days later, I talked to the girl who held a teargas canister in her bare hand, at a protest outside the governor's mansion. She was genuinely hopeful despite what she'd been through. Both were able to receive the medical treatments they needed thanks to generous donations.

What I Thought About “Separate Tides” from The Owl House
Salutations, random people on the internet who most likely won’t read this! I am an Ordinary Schmuck. I write stories and reviews and draw comics and cartoons.
...>A-hem< F**KING CALLED IT!
I said that the earliest that The Owl House would return would be late June and early July. And some of YYYOOOUUU sons of witches doubted me by saying it would be fall or winter. Well, guess what! "Separate Tides'' has come and gone, the show is back and better than ever, and we are all happy about it! You see how it pays to be optimistic, you persistent PACK OF PESSIMISTS!
...Sorry. Got a little hot there. I'm just so happy it's BACK!
10 MONTHS! It's been nearly 10 months since this show began its hiatus, large in part because of the pandemic. It was painful. BOY, was it painful. But I can already tell that the new season is going to be well worth the wait just by this episode alone.
But beware you mangey sea dogs! Thar be spoilers ahead when discussing such a premier.
And I swear to you that it's only spoilers for "Separate Tides." I haven't seen "Escaping Expulsion" either, and I promise you will be safe from anybody ruining it for you. But maybe don't read any responses from this post. Thar may be d**ks in these waters. So let's review, shall we!
WHAT I LIKE
Mirroring Season One’s Opening Scene: First off, this is a neat callback to what is the perfect first impression of the series. That scene perfectly introduces us to the type of show The Owl House is, while this one acts as a reintroduction to the world we left for way too long.
Second, this is also a well-hidden character moment. Luz is finally living the life she dreamed of, but it isn't exactly all that she expected. It's a great showcase that despite literally running away to a fantasy world, Luz is still getting a regular dose of reality. And I still love the irony in all of that.
(Plus, King eating the bounty is just funny).
The Recap Recording: This is a smart way to recap events from the season finale. It might be weird that Luz says things that the audience already knows, but she's not talking to us. She's talking to her mom. So she's going to explain all that she can in a way for Camila to fully understand. Besides, not every fan had repeatedly watched The Owl House Season One over and over again like a bunch of frickin' lunatics...You know who you are.
Plus, as an upside, Luz gets to explain new events and concepts for how she and the rest of the Owl House are making a living. In no way does it feel like forced exposition because, again, she's trying to describe as much as she can to her mother. It's a reasonable and natural way to talk to the audience in order to catch them up while also showing what's been happening since we've last left this show.
Luz Can’t Send Texts to Her Mom: ...Well, Texts to Home, it was fun while it lasted, but the current canon has decided that you're done. I'll miss you and appreciate all that you've done for me, but, yeah, this is the end. Sorry.
Alright, now that I got my jokes out of the way, allow me to explain how this is really a heartbreaking moment. Because the fact that Luz is forever cut off from her mother, even through texts, is an idea that just twists the knife in your heart when you really sit down to think about it. Luz's little goodbye at the end of her video does nothing but makes it worse.
On the upside, we get some solid character development as Luz doesn't even hesitate to send the video to Camila, learning her lesson from "Enchanted Grom Fright" about being more honest. She finally faced her fear, even if it was a fruitless effort.
They’re Doing Odd Jobs Now: This is a smart workaround for how the Owl House residents are making money. Some fans guessed that maybe Eda had so much junk piled up that they wouldn’t worry, but this seems more of a logical direction. Even if Eda had enough garbage to sell, she’ll can and will eventually run out at some point, meaning that they will all have to take the odd jobs anyway. So I appreciate the writers used that plot point sooner rather than later, as a fun romp as bounty hunters is something you want to do early in the season instead of later on. Especially with how Dana Terrace confirmed that s**t’s gonna go down in the future.
Lilith: ...I'm still willing to hold off--What the f**k did I say his name was? *looks up past review* Frederick Ulis--Frederick Ulisinsburg!
I am willing to hold off Frederick Ulisinsburg, for now, because Lilith is...sort of on the right track. I mean, I don't like how quick she was to playfully mock Eda or rudely yell at Hooty. But I do think that there is potential for her character. She feels genuine guilt for what she's done, and there's a chance that the new season will explore that further if the writers are smart (which they are). On top of that, there's a possibility that every time Lilith tries to act cocky or full of herself, she will be treated as a proverbial punching bag because of it. Like how her poster got burned down after boasting how impressive she looks. Or how Golden Guard's poster magically sealed itself to her face when Lilith tried to throw it away. It's the latter that primarily got me cackling like a madman due to how deservingly hilarious it was.
And, well...she happily clapped like a schoolgirl! Which was adorable! I can't hate characters who have the potential to be adorable! It's not in my nature!
So, while I am a little hesitant in liking her, I think there's a chance for improvement in her character in the future that I look forward to. We just have to wait and see if the writers pull it off.
(By the way, to the person that came up with Lilith wearing a "battery low" shirt...you're a genius in visual gags/storytelling.)
Greg’s List: Have I ever mentioned that this show is funny?
Who's Greg? Why does he organize a list of perfect bounties?
I don't know, but the idea of some random person in the Boiling Isles is putting it on himself to set up a list to make bounties...I'm sorry, but that's funny to me. It's also probably for how Craig's List was made, but when you really think about it, Craig's List is a funny idea as well.
Eda Isn’t Feared Anymore: I sort of guessed that this would happen, but seeing it is a whole different level of sympathy to feel for the character. Eda's main schtick was being the most powerful witch on the Isles, and that's gone now. She's forced to adapt to this new normal, which she's quick to do, but still. Tt's got to be a rough kick to the ego now that no one even cares about who she is anymore.
It's a low moment for her character that hopefully sets up her own arc for the rest of the season.
Luz Feels Like She’s a Burden: I will demolish her with love and kindness if she even CONSIDERS talking so poorly about herself again! Because Luz is not a burden. She is a beam of light that literally brightens up the lives of nearly everyone she meets. Eda already explains how her life is better because of Luz (through a heart-tugging speech that almost got to me, by the way), but it's not just Eda.
King now has his first real friend who admires him and treats him like the king he wants to be.
Willow has become much more confident and cheerful because Luz was always in her corner.
Gus learns more about the humans he appreciates with his whole heart while also having a friend that treats him like an equal rather than a kid.
And do I even have to say ANYTHING about Amity?
The Boiling Isles wouldn't be better off without Luz. It's better because of her. And shame on this girl for thinking otherwise...even though I fully understand where she's coming from.
I'm about to get personal for a second, so strap in. Because I am a twenty-somthing-year-old who is currently living with his mom. It's as pathetic as it sounds. But it's because I'm still attending college, and she says school comes first and jobs and apartments come second. Despite that, I feel like trash for just...living here as she still takes care of me and pays for the food I can't afford. She says that I shouldn't worry about it, but I still wait for the day I can finally pay her back for everything. Not some things, but everything. And that's Luz's mentality in this episode. The overwhelming guilt she's feeling for thinking she's inconveniencing Eda's life is something that hits really hard for me. It doesn't matter if it's true, but that she believes it's true. It's a heartbreaking character arc she's forced into for this episode that also adds more to why she's one of the many characters I heavily relate to.
Lulu and Hootstipher: Whoever thought of this idea...I f**king love you.
This is similar to when Noah and Owen became friends in Total Drama World Tour. Seemingly one-sided at first, you see a cute friendship that you would have never expected, but it works! Hooty is this happy and naive character who hardly understands what's going on half the time, and Lilith is...Lilith. Their chemistry is instantly fun as their dynamic is quick to understand.
This also shines with potential for character growth, for it could give Lilith a chance to be more caring and Hooty a chance to be more than just the comic relief. If you were to tell me that this is what was going to happen when the season premiered, I would have thought you were crazy. But now, after seeing it in action, I'm genuinely excited to see where this cute friendship between these two goes.
(As long as it doesn't involve fans shipping them. Because Hooty can do better)
Luz Getting Better with Her Magic: Our little bisexual princess is growing up! And, man, is it awesome to see. Luz going from just barely knowing how to do magic to full-on using her spells like second nature just warms my heart with all the character growth it presents. Now, some people might want an explanation for how she's able to do said spells, to which I say: "Who the f**k cares?"
If you ask me, Luz's magic is one of those things that doesn't need a direct answer because it doesn't matter as much. But if you're going to be a baby about it, here's what I can offer: As far as I can tell, it's equal parts having the glyph and mentally picturing what the spell should do. It's much like how Willow draws a spell circle and can either make giant jungle vines or a patch of flowers to land on. Luz's glyphs are her own spell circles. As long as she concentrates hard enough, she can make the glyph do whatever she wants it to.
There. You have your explanation. Now let's just all appreciate the fact that Luz can now throw fireballs and make vine whips like the superpowered teenager she most likely fantasized of being. Ok? Ok.
A Pirate Losing His Head...Literally: ...And I'm gonna go ahead and add that to the list.
I mean, for f**k's sake, WE SEE BONE! He puts his head back on, but we still see the bone!
Eda in a Pirate Outfit: ...That is all.
The Golden Guard: This guy shows up for only a few minutes, and I'm already beginning to like him. He seems just as threatening as Belos while also coming across as a guy who loves his job and being a ton of fun to watch because of it. I adore villains that find that balance of being funny and terrifying. The result is a character who makes me laugh on top of making me scared of what they could do to our protagonists. So far, that's the Golden Guard in a nutshell, and I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store with him. Whether it involves seeing him play with food as he did with Eda and Luz in this episode or seeing him getting kicked in the crotch like a little punk like him deserves, I am all for it.
(Bonus points if it's Amity who does the crotch kicking if he ever makes an advancement on Luz)
Eda Wanting to Protect the Selkidomus: I love this. It plays into the idea that Eda cares about things being wild and free and despises how Emperor Belos would want to control everything, including the most insignificant of animals. It shows just how kind Eda really is rather than someone motivated by greed...even if she does end up filthy rich in the end.
Emperor Belos’ Brief Cameo: Yup, still terrifying!
And if it turns out that Belos can see the Scrying Potion that Lilith made...we're going to have some problems.
Much like the actual problems that I have with this episode!
(Like that transition?)
WHAT I DISLIKE
King Being Stupid: King has two different personalities in this series. Either he's a pathetic wannabe ruler who seems intelligent or an idiotic Disney comedic sidekick. That latter version of King is what we get in "Separate Tides," and I don't like it (obviously). I don't care how cute it is to see him cling onto Luz's leg and exclaim how he won't let her leave. The same character who helped Luz break into a prison to save Eda shouldn't be the same one who falls asleep when a sheet covers him like a dumbass parrot! King's at his best when he's as intelligent as the rest of the characters. And not as dumb as someone like Hooty.
Eda Being Too Nice Around Lilith: This one bothers me the most. After being cursed for thirty years and having her life ruined by the person she thought she could trust the most, Eda is still all smiley and jokey when talking to Lilith. Yeah, sorry, but I don't buy that. No one in their right mind would be that cool with a person who did all of what Lilith did. It's a major misstep that squanders what could have been a fantastic overarching story of Eda learning to forgive her sister and Lilith trying to earn it. We'll at least get Lilith's guilt, but as is, I feel Eda showing genuine anger towards her would elevate that story by a lot.
IN CONCLUSION
But that's about all the bad things I have to say about "Separate Tides." As is, it is a well-earned, solid A of a season premiere. It introduces new concepts and characters I can't wait to see more of, continues old storylines and character development instead of ignoring them, and still proves that The Owl House is as charming and funny as it always was. Maybe the rest of the season could continue to be great, or maybe things might get worse. Time can only tell. For now, all I can tell you is that "Separate Tides" is a great and fun episode that makes me excited as we set sail to this new season.
(And Scared. Mostly scared)

Could you write about the boys (separately) reading with S/O. Do they prefer reading or being read to? What is their go to book? What is their favourite part of that book? Do they prefer books from their pasts or more modern books? If they don't like reading, do they bother S/O while they're reading? How?
OH I LOVE THIS ASK. Thank you so much for asking this and I hope you enjoy
The Lost Boys x Reading with their S/O
David
This boy isn’t the biggest reader of the four, but he still reads a decent amount. The boys had seen the development of the “moving picture”, but silent movies were still the only movies available until the 1920s. So, reading was still a big part of their early lives, even when things started to go on screen
David prefers to read, but he doesn’t mind being read to. He just likes to have control, and he likes to dictate how fast you end up going through the book. This way, he also gets to choose when you two stop, and, more often than not, he’ll read you a book that he’s already read. Books that he hasn’t read he’ll read by himself, and he’ll offer to read them to you if he liked them. He likes to have you lay your head on his chest as he reads to you, and he’ll run his fingers through your hair as his eyes scan the page. He knows he has a nice voice, and he definitely uses it to his advantage during these times. If you’re the one that’s reading, he’ll only half-listen. He’ll have you lay against his chest as you hold the book in front of you, sitting up against the cave wall. He’d rather use this time to run his fingers through your hair and kiss your neck, only purposely distracting you just a little bit.
David likes horror books, almost as much as he likes horror movies. His go-to book is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, only because he’s read it so many times. He likes how descriptive it is, and how the monster is portrayed in the book (He hated the movie so much he almost wanted to burn down the theater he saw it in). He relates far too much to the monsters disdain for his creator, and draws far too many parallels between Frankenstein and his monster with his relationship with Max. His favorite part is when the monster tells of how he’s lived before he confronted Frankenstein, and it reminds him of the life he had before Max had found him and his boys.
The only way he cannot relate to Frankenstein’s monster is with the loneliness the monster feels. David has always had his brothers, and, now, you. Though, he sees you as similar to the mate that Frankenstein’s monster had always dreamed of, and he smiles when he tells you that once after reading the book to you. You’d given his chest a small hit, reminding him that both the monster and his desired mate were supposed to be hideous. He’d smirked, and pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “We’re not exactly gorgeous when we wear our true faces, sweetheart.” He’d reminded you, and you’d rolled your eyes.
David likes gothic horror, but he’s a bit of a slut for Stephen King. King started releasing his books in the seventies, and David was just happy that more horror books were being written. He hadn’t expected to become such a fan, and he has a small collection of both his books and the movie adaptations. Though, he has varying opinions on all of them
Dwayne
This boy READS. He’s the most well-read of the boys, and, even as movies became more popular over the last century, he still reads more than anything. He’s had to see and sit through various movies because of the other boys, but Dwayne genuine prefers books. He’d rather spend two hours at the cave in his imagination as he scans the pages of whatever book he nabbed from the library than go to whatever movie the others picked. Movies are cool, but he didn’t really start paying attention to them until they were in color
Dwayne has so many books it’s a little insane. They’re stacked around the cave, and the other boys, if they want to read, never really have to go to the library or a store to find a new book to read. All they have to do is pick one from Dwayne’s stacks, and promise that it’ll be returned to it’s proper place. Dwayne has started writing his name inside his copies so none of the other boys can claim that it was actually theirs. He frowns whenever he sees a dog-ear or a ripped page, and he always gives whoever was responsible a death glare
Dwayne has spent so much time reading to himself that he practically melts when you offer to read to him. He’s not much of a talker, so he’s far too willing to cuddle with you on the couch and let you read your latest book to him. After that, he definitely prefers to have you read to him. Sure, he’ll read to you from time to time. Usually, when it’s late at night and you’re far too tired to focus on the pages. But, he’d much rather hear your voice make the authors work come to life. It’s a bit of a coin toss as to who will be read to, because you like to hear his voice as much as he likes to hear yours. Eventually, the two of you decide to take turns
His go-to book is a book that infuriates him. It’s The Trial by Franz Kafka, and the first time he read it he laid face down for nearly an hour. The others had asked him if he was okay, and he’d replied by giving them finger-guns. He proceeded to read the book over and over, trying to make sense of it because there had to be something he was missing. Something that explained the absurdness of the plot. His favorite part is the parable the priest gives him, and he once told it to Paul just to make him as confused as he had been the first time he read it. When you ask him for a book suggestion, he offers that one. A week later you throw your copy at him and yell at him for suggesting it. He laughs and catches it, as he knows exactly what you’re feeling. It’s a book he always suggests, mainly because, as far as he’s concerned, everyone should suffer reading it just as he had. The two of you will rant about it for hours
Dwayne will read anything. He’s not necessarily picky, and he’s read pretty much whatever book he could get his hands on. He can’t necessarily get a library card, so a lot of the books he has have to be found some other way. He doesn’t like to have to steal from the library, and prefers to either buy or steal a book from a bookstore on the boardwalk
Paul
Paul doesn’t read
The boy can’t sit still long enough to actually get into a book, and it wasn’t like movies weren’t already a thing. He quickly had a preference for them instead, though he finds it hard to sit through movies as they become longer and longer. Movies, specifically comedies, only used to be two reels long, which ran for about twenty minutes tops. As movies started hitting the hour and two hour marks, the other boys became accustomed to how much Paul would interrupt them
He will only tolerate books if you read them to him, but even then his attention isn’t guaranteed. He’ll spend the entire time kissing your neck and face, and he’ll try to tug any clothes that you’re wearing off your frame. Eventually, he’ll settle in bed next to you. It may take awhile, but Paul will finally lay down with his head on your chest and close his eyes as he listens to your voice. He’ll even lay still if you pet his hair, and he’ll nuzzle your chest if you begin scratching one of his sweet spots. Sometimes he’ll ask questions or make comments, just like he would if it was a movie. You’ll have to pause to answer them or respond, and there’s a chance he might use the distraction to start a conversation with you. If you’re really determined to keep on reading, he’ll sigh and roll his eyes as he lays his head back on your chest. There have been a few times where he’s fallen asleep, but he tells you it was purely out of boredom. Not because he was actually relaxed or something
Even if you’re reading by yourself, he stills spends a good chunk of time trying to get you to pay attention to him instead. Whether that’s just to talk to you or to get into your pants. He’ll walk around the cave, blasting his music and smoking a joint. When you give him a small glare for the loudness of the music, he’ll return his own bright smile. He’ll flop onto your bed in your nest, shaking the mattress. He’ll poke you and attempt to tickle you, before crawling up to kiss your cheek and neck. Then, before you can swat him away, he’ll flip to lay on his back and stare at you like a playful tomcat
If you tell him to stop, he’ll whine. “It’s not my fault!” He’ll sit up and prop his head up by his elbow. “C’mon, we’re already laying in bed. Why don’t we do something a little bit more...stimulating?” He’ll say with a suggestive lift of his eyebrows. He was using ‘big words’ on purpose, since he was convinced that since you like books that you must think those were sexy or something. You’ll roll your eyes, but he’s not nearly as willing to lay down and relax if you’re the only one hearing the story. He’ll rip the book right out of your hand, ignore your cry of “Hey!”, and will plant his lips on yours. There, that’s much more like it.
He genuinely doesn’t understand your interest in them, but he’ll support it anyways. He’ll knick books from bookstores for you and give them to you as gifts. He smiles whenever you thank him/like whatever he chose, and then tap his cheek for a ‘thank you’ kiss
Marko
Marko doesn’t read that much, but he’s not nearly as bad as Paul. He reads a few short novels here or there, but he was ecstatic when comics became a thing in 1933. He was quick to ditch novels in favor of whatever publication company had come up with that month. By the eighties, he has a collection that any comic book junkie would kill for, and even own a few ‘rare’ copies. He doesn’t let Paul, or either of the others, near them and god forbid the inclemate weather coming inside the cave ruins them
Because of his preference of comic books, neither of you can really read to eachother. Instead, you two will lay on the bed inside your nest, each with your own individual comic to page through. Marko chews on his thumb the entire time that he reads, and the two of you will pause to make comments about whatever you’re reading. Most of your reading material are comics that he’s lent you, and he only lets you touch them because he loves you. He swears that you’re the only one allowed to look through them, but he doesn’t go far enough as letting you take them with you
Due to his preference, he prefers new over old. He wholly believes that comic books have gotten better over time. With everything from the art style, the characters, and just the different writers that have come up over the years. He still reminisces about the golden and silver age, but modern is where it’s at! Of course, the bronze age only just ended in 1984
His favorite comic book series is Watchmen by Alan Moore. He watched the superhero genre grow and develop, so he loved when the writers decided to point out how flawed some of the caped crusaders could be. While also creating some pretty awesome ones of their own. He understands that they’re all caricatures of what’s wrong in society/people, and he lives for the symbolism. The characters, the plot, the dialogue? Marko loved everything about it, especially the ending. The giant squid monster? Epic. Marko geeked when it was revealed who the real villain was, and he wouldn’t stop ranting about it for hours
He’s really upset that the Frog brothers just happen to run the best comic book store on the boardwalk, and he has to be dragged away from the store each night. He still remembers when their parents ran it instead, and he’s been pissed about the “new management” ever since the kids were old enough to sweep floors and run the cash register. Marko may or may not be the reason they were tipped off about vampires, but he swears that it was an accident. He also swore that it wasn’t like they had any proof, so they didn’t need to kill the teens immediately (he just didn’t want the store to get shut down)
If you ever want to get him to read a regular novel, you’re gonna have to read it to him. He’ll take a page out of Pauls book and lay his head on your chest as you read, closing his eyes as he listens to your voice. He’ll actually keep his hands to himself, and will focus on just holding you tightly to him instead. He treasures these moments, especially because he just gets to listen to you for over an hour. When you decide to stop for the night, Marko will whine and beg you to keep going. You’ll giggle and promise to pick it up tomorrow, and he’ll sigh. He can be won over with kisses, and the two of you can have some regular cuddle time instead

The Changing Structure of the OPM Story -- and the Challenge of Adaptation
I've been thinking a lot about the structure of OPM and how it's been changing as we get into the story. I really don't envy anyone who has the task of adapting OPM for screen, particularly as the story advances.
Something that Shingo Natsume says in his interview with AnimeLab Australia really brought it home for me. He says that it's not correct to call the characters around Saitama a 'supporting cast' as they all have their unique roles (start around 2:30). And that got me thinking.
youtube
I think we can broadly divide OPM’s story so far into four phases (the divisions are arbitrary, but I hope useful)
Phase I: INDIVIDUALS
When OPM starts, it's all about the individual characters and there's little focus on the world in which they exist in. It's natural, because we're just being introduced to them. We start out, it's just Saitama, wandering around in splendid isolation. He’s in a world that’s bizarre with giant brothers and underground civilizations, but nothing is explained to us. He exists.
Then it's Saitama and Genos, and it all gets very cosy. Then we add another character. And a few more. We see how they do, we see what some of the people of the world make of them, but we have to take everything on face value, we don’t have a lot of history or context.
Still even at the end of the first phase, we've got not that much context other than that the Hero Association exists to deal with the monsters and threats we see, we've met the Class S heroes and the wider world isn't really in focus as to what their relationship to it means.
The alien invasion really marks the end of this phase as we can’t help but hear what the world makes of the world-shaking fact of having been contacted by aliens and the tragedy of the destruction of a major city.
To adapt it, Shingo Natsume decided to frame the story as a drama first and then a superhero story only secondarily. By doing so, he really made the best of the characters as individuals. We didn’t know why they were the way they were -- in fact, we still don’t entirely know -- but we could come to understand who they were and care about them and be bothered by their relations with the world. We see a lot of it from Saitama’s place and the inhabited world looks remote, fickle, difficult to understand and even hostile. And yet, we get lots to laugh about too.
Interview with Shingo Natsume - Animation Director [Episode 3]
It’s only a couple of minutes long, you’ll want to watch it all.
Phase II: INDIVIDUALS and the world
When King gets introduced, things change. Unlike all the other characters, we don’t get to know King himself, what he says, what he does. Rather, we get what other people around King see in him. What he means to them.
This is where I start not envying people. The first phase, if you’re doing an adaptation, you can largely get by by focusing on the individual characters and their interactions with each other. The second phase is a lot more balanced between the individuals and the world.
As Garou starts cutting a swathe through the heroes and the Monster Association makes life hell for people, the world shares importance with the individuals we're following.
I think that's where season 2's adaptation really struggled. It didn't do such a good job of portraying what all that strife meant to people, the terror and confusion they were feeling, and what a threat to the reputation of the Hero Association it was. Every corner JC Staff cut in not showing the crowds of people, in not showing the extent of destruction or public consternation, every last bit hurt the impact of the story.
When the Monster Association directly challenges the Hero Association, they’re not just out to destroy a group of heroes. We started this phase understanding how people have been able to trust that even in this chaotic world, there are heroes who can end the evil threatening them, or else save them from the danger. And that faith is what is very directly under attack now.
Of course, a certain teenage jerk thinks he’s got what it takes to be the most important individual in the world.
If I were thinking of a frame for this phase, it’d be the loss of innocence and really made the linkage between Amai Mask’s yelling at the heroes at the end of the last season, the faith we saw people have in King and the growing sense of dismay and even betrayal as monsters arose and heroes were nowhere to be found. It’s an increasingly urgent background against which to set the very personal struggles of the various characters we’re following in this part of the story. One that will have a lot of relevance later.
Phase III: Individuals in the World
Whoever takes OPM forward, that problem is only going to get worse. The story moves around ever more relentlessly from scene to scene, from individual to individual and along with it, the world does too. Where to place the weight of our attention is a matter of choice and mastery. Succeed, and we have an epic conflict. Fail and it’s ‘all these things are happening and I can’t keep anything straight.’
Some of that weight needs to be put on the world. Almost from the start, the story frames the individual actions in the context of what it means for the world. We've got the Monster Worship Party, the people so scared of what's happening that they'd rather limit the damage than risk being all destroyed. Garou’s dismay when he realises that he’s not going to be the biggest thing in the world is sobering.
reality, it bites
It’s in this phase that world-building gets serious. We learn about what monsterisation is, are introduced to the concept of a limiter and how individuals may gain power. The manga also builds out more in terms of just why the conflict is happening in City Z, linking together the apparently random dreams of Saitama to the location and the history of just why that part of the city was deserted.
The stakes are clearly drawn by the manga. We literally have two towers rising out of the ruins of a city opposing one another. The Tower of Justice built out of the ashes of City A and the Tower of Despair hauled up through the ruins of City Z. It’s not just the physical struggle between hero and monster that we get, there’s also the philosophical and even spiritual strife between them. A struggle seemingly for the well-being of humanity. All with bonus Garou going through both like a wrecking ball.
and of course, set against all the titans battling, the ordinary little man who has broken past the rules of the world
Phase IV: THE WORLD and its individuals
And now, after the Monster Association, we have the WORLD and the individuals are much smaller. It's become about the movers and shakers and the organisations that influence the world and the individuals are actors going about this changing world. The Hero Association has come in for a critical re-evaluation by the media and public. A rival organisation has arisen. Other organisations start to flex their muscles with varying degrees of covertness, all looking for power and influence.
The history of the world starts to come to view. We learn about the peculiar physical and human geography of this world and a lot more about the role monsters play in the world.
Individuals aren’t forgotten. We start too, to get more background on many characters whose behaviour had hitherto been rather difficult to understand.
It’s been interesting to see Garou’s actual impact. He never became the greatest monster the whole world knew and feared. Rather, he served to potentiate the resentment and strife between the various classes of heroes.
to be fair, this has been a long time coming
We started OPM with all these weird individuals and we loved them as the slightly crazy eccentrics they were. Now one by one, we're getting the contexts they come from and it's beginning to make sense.
all those crazy individuals -- the insecure and empire-building Fubuki, the needlessly antagonistic and over-possessive Tatsumaki, the obsessive ninjas -- all of them are starting to look a lot less crazy. even the cyborg ranting and raving about a mystery cyborg who devastated his life isn’t looking quite so far-fetched any longer. Their truths look to be sadder and wilder than we’d imagined.
The world of OPM is bigger and weirder than any one person within it is able to experience or understand. ONE so far is doing an interesting exercise in telling us about the world, but showing us what it means for the individuals affected by its various aspects.
How an adaptation will keep the story interesting and human and focused while bringing in the sense of scale and context is going to be a real challenge! I do not envy the director. But it's going to be so worth taking on.

*Theoretically*, if TGS was ever adapted into a show, how much of an effect would the stuff you’ve done with the characters out of context (i.e., rp, discussion, cliffs of insanity, merch, etc) have on the adaptation process? Asking bc it would be a dream to have my prospective comic one day made into a show, but I’m worried I’ve ruined my chances by blabbing publicly about my ocs so much already
This is an interesting set of questions! 1) If a show gets adapted, there is actually little to no obligation to stick to anything from the original property. The ultimate example of this is How To Train Your Dragon, which scrapped the entire original book save for the title and some of the character names. In the case of the Glass Scientists, I would probably use most of the ‘canon’ comic and a decent amount of the stuff I’ve written about the characters and world. There’s not much story content in the merch, unless you count Bleeding Heart, which is canon. And while there are aspects of Cliffs of Insanity that still work for the characters, most of the confrontation between Jekyll and Frankenstein now happens in a different way than it did when I originally wrote it (back in like.....2011?). I would reference it more in spirit than in word.I would absolutely not use any fan RPs, which I would consider more the property of the fans themselves than the creator. There’s a little bit of gray area when it comes to fan discussion. It is true that creators will sometimes change storylines in response to The Discourse, but that probably isn’t the healthiest practice, as it can lead to awkward ret-conning or obsessively writing in plot twists in the hope that no fan ever will guess the ending to your story. At the same time, it’s really hard to avoid altogether!! Because you want to know what your readers think of your story!! I don’t often make changes to the story in response to fan discussion, but when I do it’s usually to clarify a story point that caused confusion or to explore a character more deeply when I saw that my idea of them in my head wasn’t translating to the page. 2) You have definitely not ruined your chances of making your story into a show by talking about it publicly! Honestly, if you get to pitch a show, executives will have no idea that you’ve posted about your story previously unless you tell them. They just don’t have the time to scroll through your social media history and piece together all the bits and pieces you’ve posted over the years. It IS true that recruiters and other hiring people will look at your social media, but they’re usually looking for A) a really quick impression of your overall work/artistic voice and B) any personality red flags (i.e. are you an obvious racist, sexist, etc.) Beyond that, people just don’t have the time. Every once in a while, an exec will notice an extremely popular webcomic or other online story, but . . . it really needs to be popular. And at that point, you’ve got to be the kind of person who can casually rattle off the number of eyeballs on your comic, and that number had better be in the millions. (I think. I only have a little experience in this area.) And even then, if you yourself do not have enough name recognition in Hollywood, there’s a decent chance that whoever is buying your show will just want to buy the show itself and attach someone more famous to actually make the thing (who could do whatever they want to your story). I realize that probably sounds super demoralizing! But that millions-of-viewers thing only really applies if you expect studios to come to YOU with an offer, which rarely happens. You can absolutely make your comic and then pitch it to a studio yourself, which I prefer to do anyway because it gives YOU control over how you want to present your story. You get to decide whether you want to keep, say, all five years worth of development work you did on the project or just keep the big rehaul you did over the summer. You control the studio’s first impression of your story, and that’s all that any exec has time to care about.BONUS: With that said--and this was not part of the original question--but you should never make a comic if the ONLY goal is to pitch it to a studio some day. Pitching is always a weird and risky business which relies so much on luck and timing. It can be incredibly demoralizing if you rely on studio interest as your only metric for success. Make sure you enjoy making the comic for its own sake!

a little AWAE rant
These are my opinions and I would be happy if you respect them. If you are some hardcore fan of the show who can’t handle criticism, then I suggest you don’t read this as you might end up being triggered for no serious reason. This post includes spoilers for season 3 as well as spoilers from the books. I also talk about the characters as if they are real people at some points, so if that annoys you, know that you have been warned.
When I first watched the first and the second season, there was something about the series that just didn’t sit right with me. I thought it might have been the numerous plot changes that they did so I tried to not think of it as an adaptation of Montgomery‘s books but now, after watching season 3, I realise that was not the case. In fact I enjoyed the plot changes (although I’m a bit bitter about some notable scenes not being included) as they covered a lot of problems that are still present nowadays. However, what did rub me the wrong way was how unlike themselves the characters were.
I understand that nobody would be able to write a certain character as the writer who created them but I have to say, I really do think they did a very poor job with some of the characters from Anne of Green Gables. Changing the plot from the original so our heroes would face different challenges is great but their reactions to them were not real (real here meaning true to the character’s personality from the books).
One of the things that irked me the most is how dirty they did Billy’s character. In the books Billy was an extremely shy man (yes, man, he is like 5 years older) who admired Anne greatly. He begged Jane to propose to Anne for him, and after Anne refused, Jane was a bit cold to Anne as she felt that Billy had good qualities that Anne wasn’t able to see. And although we don’t see enough of him to decide whether he is that great or not, we see just enough to know that he is nothing close to the bully we see in the show. And I think it’s extremely disappointing that they took a character and just ruined him like that just so they could give more depth to Josie’s character? And yes, I realise that his actions brought forth a really big problem that still exists but couldn’t they have added a new character, perhaps since season 1, to play the bad guy. Because book Billy Andrews was never a bully.
Another character I had quite the problem with was Anne herself this is where you start attacking me I’m sorry but most of the time, her personality was completely different from the books and quite frankly, she was simply annoying. Show Anne is just so.. angry at the world? Book Anne did often jump to conclusions and was quite careless but never did she snap the way show Anne does at least 2 times per episode. Show Anne just loves to shout at people, saying how nobody understands her and thinking the whole world is against her. And can she learn to apologise when hurting the people she loves? Cuz that ain’t it, chief. She turns her pain and disappointment into anger, lashing out at whoever is around and that is just something book Anne doesn’t do. One scene that was particularly hard to watch was when Anne confronted Diana about Jerry. No. Just no. Book Anne would have been hurt, and she might have cried but should would have never gone off like that. She would have sat down with Diana and talked to her. She would have asked her to explain why she thought it appropriate to lie. And I would use this as a way to go to the next character because, honestly I’m so disappointed by Anne personality that I don’t even know how to express myself.
Diana. My lovely Diana. Look. I understand the need for empowerment targeted towards young girls and how they should all be allowed education, I do. But the thing is, as far as I remember, book Diana, doesn’t want to go to collage. She was sad about Anne going to Queens but it was because they wouldn’t be together and not because Diana wasn’t allowed to live her life. And yes, her parents were strict but not to the point to have a full on meltdown had she expressed a desire to go to collage and not marry. But here is the thing, book Diana wanted to marry. She wanted to have a family. She was a romantic soul who dreamed of her prince charming, coming to sweep her off her feet and raise a family with her. And that’s alright. Not every woman needs to be this powerful outspoken feminist, and that’s completely fine. And those women don’t need to be shamed for that. As long as it’s her choice and she isn’t forced, a woman wanting to stay at home and raise a family is just as powerful as any so called feminist and deserves the same rights to respect and equality as any other human being. I sick extremely sick when I see people degrading those women because “they don’t stand for themselves, equality” or whatever other bullshit reason you have to devalue them. And to go back to Diana. Diana isn’t Anne. She is allowed to have her own dreams, dreams different from Anne’s. And she does in the books and that doesn’t keep them from being bosom friends.
I’m not really happy with Gilbert too but I’m not going to talk about him as much, since it wasn’t that great of a change. But for those who haven’t read the books, you should know that book Gilbert was quite the cheeky fellow. James Potter kinda guy. And I find show Gilbert to be a bit.. depressing? I don’t know the right word to describe it but I never got that giddy feeling I get when reading the books or watching Jonathan Crombie’s portrayal while watching AWAE.
And because I shouldn’t be all negative, I shall also share some things about other characters that were different from the books that I enjoyed.
And of course, I shall start with Ka’kwet. I loved her story and I think she was a great addition to the story. If I have to be honest, the Mi'kmaq were one of my most favourite things from the season, and please somebody make a spin-off about them.
I love what they did with Prissy. I don’t remember much of her from the books, mainly because I think she was a very minor character but I do enjoy that she was given more personality in the show. I also like that they didn’t completely change Jane’s personality as I remember her to be quite conservative and closed-minded in the books as well.
There are probably more stuff I liked or disliked concerning the characters but I can’t really think of anything else rn. If you have any questions, feel free to send them in. I’m thinking about writing a similar post about the things I liked and disliked in regards to the plot itself, so if you’d be interested in that, do let me know!

Hi!! I’m trying to get into DMing and I was wondering if you could help me with were to start or if you have any tips that you’ve picked up yourself over your time asa dm? Thank you so much for your time and I hope you’re doing well!! 💙🤟
oh absolutely i love talking about dming and pretending i’m on talk shows where my methods of doing things are interesting. Also this is very long but generally speaking the main points are about communicating with players (eg making sure everyone has fun and wants to come back as priority #1), designing a session (by lying to your players and giving them to illusion of a wide sprawling world while not creating that much work for you), and the rule of cool. i’ve bolded it so it’s easier to navigate but also like. sorry i just like to talk a lot lol. anyway i hope this is helpful.
I think when you’re just starting out the first thing on your mind should be communicating with players. Running a session 0 to lay down house rules (even if you don’t have any, you should use it to ask players what they do and don’t wanna see, to introduce their character, to make sure you know what kind of content your players will and won’t like, etc. plus, house rules are implemented to solve problems which means you will almost certainly have a house rule or two after the first few sessions), checking in with players to see that they’re still having fun (even just like, noticing if someone is bored), figuring out which players are comfortable with roleplay, etc. This is mostly learned via experience and will vary between groups so there’s not a lot of specifics other than just to stay on your toes but the two things I will say in specific is:
1) learn to recognize your own mistakes and bad calls and apologize for them asap. you’ll def make them cos everyone does and that’s just being a person making judgement calls, but it’s usually easy to resolve if you apologize and make a note for next time.
& 2) if a player is being disruptive or annoying (breaking rules, constantly arguing your judgements, ruining roleplay, metagaming 24/7 etc), don’t be afraid to out of character be like “hey. cut that out right now”. the third time a player says they kill an npc for no reason, you don’t have to let them roll for it. you can just say “no dude if you kill all the npcs the story can’t progress and besides, i and the other players are here to play dnd.” although like, unless it’s really severe, probably just text them after the fact. it’s easier and also you don’t run the risk of embarrassing or shaming them in front of their friends, because that’s not the goal— you just want the disruptive behaviour to stop
if your whole party is being ‘disruptive’ in the same way though (eg all of them constantly start bar fights), that might just be how they want to play, in which case you may just have to adapt. if it’s really screwing up your adventure or annoying you, talk to the party, but you will generally have a much easier time designing to your players goals than you will trying to make them play to yours
the other main thing is learning to move sets. by which i mean it’s important that players aren’t railroaded and that they feel like they have a bunch of options even when they definitely don’t because listen. no one has time for that. most dms are not professionals and we don’t actually have time to account for every possible story arc that could ever happen, especially because someone will definitely come up with something you never would have thought of in a million years
instead you want to rely on false choices and moving sets. false choices are stuff like asking your players if they want to go left or right knowing that no matter which way they pick they’re going to encounter some goblins. doesn’t really matter. even if you had prepared a second encounter, they never would have seen it— they only experience a linear version of a dungeon crawl. so you only have to write a linear version. as long as they feel like they could have had a second option that they chose not to take, you’re in the clear. that being said, generally only do this with minor choices; huge choices should absolutely impact the storyline drastically. it’s just that with small things, the illusion of choice is going to work about the same and will cause you way less stress
moving sets is stuff like: you planned for the players to talk to the innkeeper and learn about the mystery. but then they don’t go to the inn. they’re not interested in the inn no matter how many hints you drop. your choices here are either drop ooc and say “look, the plot hook is in the inn” (which tbh, i’ve done, and it works if you don’t do it often and your players are willing to give you a break, but if you don’t have to do it, don’t) OR you can decide to make the vital npc a blacksmith instead, or a town guard, or whoever else the party is going to encounter in the next two minutes. playing dnd is constantly moving things around so the party encounters vital information when they decide to do whatever they want. it’s also good to keep in mind that it’s probably not on purpose, and even if your hints seem obvious to you, it’s because you read or wrote the whole adventure already. to your players, the town hall and the inn are both equally important. they have no idea you didn’t prepare anything for the town hall, and it’s your job to just pretend you knew what was going on the whole time. i have npcgenerator.com open during sessions just in case the players start talking to random people
finally i live and die by the rule of cool as much as humanly possible, and most people have said it better than me but generally speaking, coolness always supersedes rules and rolls and everything else. player wants to do some dope shit that doesn’t quite work with the spell description? just let them. you’re designing a dungeon and think of something interesting that breaks a mechanic? do it anyway. your boss was accidentally unbalanced and the fight is going to be over in 20 seconds (either by tpk or by the party wiping the board) but you know it would be much more fun to have the dramatic battle you saw in your head? lie about the rolls, the enemy’s health, its attack bonus, its abilities. player figures out the big twist like 5 sessions earlier than you planned? reward them and be ready to think on your toes. as long as you’re prioritizing the players’ fun and them thinking the session is cool, you’re probably fine
generally like, players want things to feel fair, they want it to be cool, and they want that without sacrificing the stakes and the feeling that their character could die, that they could loose horribly, because it’s the risk that makes it feel cool and like a victory. sometimes you have to manufacture that risk or mitigate it so that you preserve that feeling of fairness, and you mostly have to do it where the players can’t see.
tl;dr i know this is a lot but generally it all comes back to having fun and remembering to work with your players, not against them. you are in charge of a lot but you’re still just another player at the table. you throw obstacles at them not to beat them, but because it’s fun to see the obstacles be overcome. players are okay with losing as long as it doesn’t feel like they’re losing just so you can win. they should feel (and it should be) that that was just the risk they took, and that they understood that risk, and that they feel like how you decided the result was fair. ik i said this already but it’s that risk that makes it fun in the first place, and sometimes to maintain that sense of risk, the players have to lose.
anyway. i hope this was helpful, and good luck in DMing! if all else fails, you can just randomly roll some dice and try to look like you know what is going on, because that works probably way more than it should. people are already assuming you know what’s going on, so all you have to do is not correct them
#long post /#half of this advice is like. 'lie to your players but for their own enjoyment of the game'#but tbh thats what dming is. you just lie for several hours every week#also sorry this is so long again i love. To Talk#also i didnt get to mention it here but i hope you have fun!!!#idk if youre dming out of interest or obligation cos no one else will#but once you find your footing its honestly so much fun#i used to like. be annoyed about having to dm all the time but i find now that i would seek it out more#and only don't because i don't have time to run several campaigns at once#i love!!! dming!!!! ahh!!!#anonymous#answered

Starcrossed Losers (Josh Wheeler xReader)
A/N: Cause no one was doing it so I might as well go do it. If you like it and want part two don’t forget to leave feedback!
Words: 1,892
Warnings: Blood, this is an apocalyptic world so, plenty of gross. Swearing and bad writing cause I did this in a hurry to get it out of my system, this is a series so the end of this chapter isn’t the end of the story uwu
Next chapter
Oh. Hi. How’s life?
Well, I guess that if you’re reading this, life isn’t exactly going fine. You looked for this, you know what’s up, with the apocalypse, I mean. Not with me, so I guess I’ll start with that.
My name is Y/N L/N and my life is great. Kinda.
Okay, my life is good enough. The problem is that before this whole thing I wasn’t popular. No, I wasn’t a loser either; or an outcast that only played by her own rules. I was just a kid.
I was the right amount of friendly, I was an “ok” student at school, I was free to go to parties and I did, but I also spent plenty of Friday nights binge-watching Netflix at home until I couldn’t feel my butt. No one ever watched me up-close, and now I don’t even have parents that look after me or to talk about how my day was. And I really wish I had someone that I can tell how my fucking day was. If I’m honest, these last few weeks have been nothing but a lonely existence.
“But Y/N!” you say, “Didn’t you mention you had friends?”
Well, yeah. Emphasis on “had”. See, even if I had plenty not all of them wanted to form a new group: two of them left with the cheeramazons, others found their home with the gamers, some even were brave enough to leave the city and go look for relatives their age that might still be alive. I was one of them. I went looking for my sister with my ex-best friend to her college hoping that I would find her; which I did. Turns out being twenty years old is enough for you to turn into a ghoulie. So I parted ways with my best friend and I went back to Glendale, the only place where I know my way around because I’ve lived here since I was a baby, and I’ll probably die here in about a month or so, let’s face it.
Since most of the tribes intimidate me, I quietly made my way into the far lines of the jocks. I wasn’t noticed, kind of like the backstage crew, I did things here and there whenever they asked me to do them and got no recognition from that. I was fine with it, honestly. That until Turbo finally lost it and started to kill kids for fun. Like we didn’t have enough with Baron Triumph!
So I left the place and nobody stopped me, of course, no one really cared. My normal life was quiet; my post-apocalyptic one is just that, but with a bit more of freedom. I’ve been living on my own for like three months now, and I think I’m doing pretty good so far. Adapt and survive, right? Just like in Highschool.
And I was doing just that until Josh wheeler decided to crash into me.
“Hey!” I growled from where I was laying on the floor, my knee and elbow scraped and burning, “What the fuck are you doing?”
“No time! The jocks are chasing me, c’mon!”
Now, I could’ve said ‘No thanks! I’ll leave you to it!’ but the guy was scared shitless and he didn’t wait for a reply, He stood up and pulled me with him. He got on his skateboard without letting go of my hand and I had no choice but to move along, my roller-skates were going so fast against the asphalt, that I was sure they’d be ruined once we reached… wherever it is Josh is taking me.
At some point, he let go of my hand and I simply decided to stick around for a moment. If he was actually in trouble, he could need a hand.
“Wait, here…”
Josh gave a sharp turn to the right and into an alley, I followed. Once he made sure no one was there he leaned against the wall and sighed deeply, eyes closed. I stood there with my arms crossed, waiting for the explanation he owed me. When he opened his eyes and realized I was still there, he tilted his head.
“Y/N, right?”
We knew each other, barely though. We got paired up for a school project and that was it. Josh was the typical new kid that no one really pays attention to. He didn’t have any specific traits or amazing talent. He did manage to date Sam Dean I think, I don’t know how did he manage to do it, but I guess the thing is that he’s nice. A good guy overall. He was just Josh.
“Josh,” I frowned, “care to tell me what the hell did you do to piss off Turbo?”
“Nothing!” He scoffed, “It’s all fault of the golf team, I thought they had Sam and I went after them… turns out it was Angelica.”
“Bummer,” I said, though I didn’t really care, “so it was your fault.”
“I just said-”
“You went out of your way to annoy the golf team cause you thought they had Sam Dean kidnapped or whatever, and now you’re saying it’s their fault that you’re being chased down?”
“Yeah?” He stopped for a second, then continued, “okay so it was kinda my fault…”
“Yeah,” I scoffed, “you probably messed up a bit.”
He let out a dry laugh, then stared at me for a moment.
“So what are you doing? are you part of any tribe?”
“Me?” I raised my eyebrows, “I used to, now it’s just me.”
“Yeah, same,” He nodded, “well, I never belonged to a tribe but, I mean, it’s easier, isn’t it? On your own”
“I don’t know… I guess” I looked down at my shoes and whimper at the sight of them. They were most definitely ruined.
“Roller-skates?” He asked with a smirk, “seriously, Y/N?”
“Who are you to judge?” I replied with a frown, “a shitty skateboard against the monster trucks that Turbo drives around? Yes, that’ll definitely gonna leave them biting the dust”
“Hey, my skate is great! And I have a car,” He defended himself, “but… fuck, I guess I left it on jock territory”
“We should keep going,” I replied, deciding not to comment on what he had said, “they might be getting close.”
“You could leave if you want,” Josh shrugged, “after all this whole thing is not your fault”
“I could, but I just left my place cause it got destroyed, my skates are fucked and if the jocks don’t find you they’ll be on the hunt for something else to play with so to be honest, I think that staying with you for a couple of hours won’t hurt.”
“Cool,” He sighed, moving away from the wall.
“Good,” I moved beside him, “ so, where are we going, exactly?”
“Uh,” Josh rubbed the back of his neck, chuckling nervously, “the mall?”
I stopped dead in my tracks, looking at him in disbelief.
“Are you trying to make all the wrong choices today?” I huffed, “Do you have a death wish?”
“No,” He rolled his eyes, stopping in front of me, “Someone told me Sam might be there, so I’m going”
“Do you realize that is Baron Triumph’s territory?”
“Yes, I do. Thank you for reminding me.”
“What is up with you and Sam Dean anyway?” I asked in annoyance, “Were you two together during this mess and then one day you fought, she left the house and now she’s missing?”
I was trying to be sarcastic, I wasn’t expecting him to reply with:
“Yes, that’s exactly what happened.”
“Oh,” I blushed in embarrassment, “sorry, I didn’t… I didn’t think…”
“It wasn’t exactly like that,” He lowered his eyes to the ground, kicking the dirt, “we weren’t together when it happened, but we did fight before. I haven’t seen her since the whole apocalypse stuff.”
We stayed silent for a moment, I didn’t know what to say, not because I didn’t understand the situation, I did. I also had someone important that I wanted to find desperately, and when I finally did, it was too late. I think that I was surprised, I never saw Josh Wheeler as the type of guy who would stand alone in front of Turbo and his crew just to find a girl. If he could be that stubborn about love, he certainly had to be it for surviving.
“Alright,” I said in a defeated voice.
Josh looked at me in confusion.
“Alright what?”
“Let’s go then, to the mall.”
“You coming?” He smiled, “seriously?”
“I know you don’t need me,” I moved until I was standing face to face, “but I think that we can make a good team, for a few hours though. I hate group projects.”
Josh laughed, giving me a simple nod.
“Don’t worry, we’ll finish this in no time.”
And boy, was he wrong about that.
We hurry our asses off to get to the mall fast and unnoticed, once there I saw two kids cornered by a woman against the doors and I pointed towards them, Josh hurriedly pulled out his sword and stabbed the ghoulie, the woman turned around and ran away, revealing two familiar faces that I was definitely not expecting to see.
“Ah, shit! My sword!” Exclaimed Josh, losing grip of his weapon.
“Y/N?” Asked the boy.
I looked at Josh with a stern face.
“Wesley Fists?” I said, “you ally with Wesley Fists and our school’s drug dealer?”
“I didn’t get much of a choice,” He grumbled.
“You suck at heroing,” Said the blonde girl.
Josh turned around to look at her.
“I saved your stupid lives. Twice.” Then he leaned to grab his skateboard from the ground and added, “now hurry, Turbo’s on our ass.”
I moved to a side and waited for him to open the door when Wesley spoke up again.
“Uhm, no. He’s not,” We all looked back, facing the empty street, “Why aren’t they chasing you?”
Almost as if to answer the question the sound of an engine coming closer made us quiet down, and a black figure appeared in front of us.
“Baron Triumph,” mumbled Josh, probably about to shit his pants like the rest of us, “oh, shit…”
He stepped back and pulled me with him by the hem of my shirt, my skates moving easily against the dusty road.
“Anyone know who the hell this idiot really is?” Angelica, the little blonde girl on my left asks in an upset tone.
“I heard is Marco Lions, that gearhead that lived in Hollywood?” Offered Wesley.
“Didn’t your bestie, Jayden Hoyles ride a motorcycle like that?” Asked Josh in a bitter voice.
“Well,” Wesley nodded without looking back, “Hoyles is a real prick.”
“And you just figured that out?” I asked.
“Whoever he is,” Interrupted Angelica, “here he comes…”
Everyone prepared their weapons for the fight, and it was then when I realized…
“Fuck!” I whispered, “I don’t have anything to defend myself!”
“Don’t worry, we got you” Josh whispered back.
“You literally just lost your sword on a ghoulie’s back.”
Josh was about to reply when Baron got off the motorcycle and we all froze once more. He swiftly took off his helmet, and…
“What the…”
So what’s my life like during the apocalypse?
It’s never what I want it to be.

‘cause you’ll be safe in these arms of mine
Summary: Jake and Amy asking people to be godparents, inspired by a convo with @capnperaltiago who asked for me to write this <3
She asks Rosa two minutes after the plastic stick says pregnant.
Jake and Holt are out working a case and Terry’s taken the day off to be with his girls, leaving Amy in charge of the Nine-Nine. Hitchcock and Scully have already started a small fire, one of the uniformed officers lost a piece of evidence and there was a fight amongst two perps in the holding cell. And Amy can’t stop throwing up.
At first she blames it on work-related stress and then she thinks it must have been the Chinese she ate last night while watching re-runs of Friends. It’s not until Rosa pulls out a pregnancy test she picked up from the store that she realises it could be morning sickness.
They’re not even properly trying yet. Sure, she’s come off her birth control because she’s done enough research to know that it could take months to get pregnant after coming off them and they still can’t take their hands off each other, even after over a year of marriage, but neither of them were expecting anything to happen this soon.
She pees on the stick and, several anxiety-ridden minutes later, it comes back positive.
She’s pregnant.
And she panics.
This is what she wanted, what she’s always wanted, but what if Jake’s still not quite ready yet and what if one of them dies on the job and what if they can’t actually afford this and-.
“Santiago,” comes Rosa’s gruff voice, her hands steadying Amy’s quivering shoulders, “you two have got this. You’re gonna be the best parents I know.”
“Even better than Terry and Sharon?” She snivels.
“Yeah.” Then, quickly, “don’t tell them I said that.”
“Your secret’s safe with me,” Amy promises, zipping her mouth shut.
“Yours too.” Rosa mimics her zipping action, throwing the imaginary key into the toilet like she’s Steph Curry.
Amy laughs, a sudden idea popping into her head. It seems weird to ask before consulting Jake, before Jake even knows there’s a baby inside her, but it also feels right. She rips off the bandaid. “Will you be the godmother?”
The detective freezes, her mouth opening and closing like a goldfish. “Me?”
“Mm-hmm.” Amy smiles at Rosa’s surprise. They are complete opposites — Rosa likes motorbikes, Amy likes binders, Rosa likes leather jackets and big boots, Amy likes sensible pantsuits — yet they’ve become sisters, sleuth sisters, over the past nine years. There’s nobody else Amy would consider for the job. “You’ve always had my back and I think you’d have our baby’s back, too. Plus, if our baby turns out like Jake, you’ve always known how to handle him.”
Rosa snorts, then smiles back at her. Amy thinks she detects a few tears in Rosa’s eyes, but doesn’t say a word, not wanting to ruin the moment. Rosa eventually nods. “Yeah. I’m in.”
“C’mere,” Amy cries, the damn pregnancy hormones already making her emotions crazy as she pulls Rosa into a tight hug.
++
It’s Jake’s idea to make Charles godfather.
Amy’s a little… apprehensive at first, to say the least, considering Charles’ track record of being totally obsessed with every aspect of their personal lives. He’s sent her 75 emails about birthing tips, offering his doula services at the end of each one, in the last week alone. He came round their apartment one night to get rid of all coffee, alcohol, shame cigarettes and any other No-No foods during pregnancy. He’s already suggested the names Charles Peralta if it’s a boy and Charlotte if it’s a girl, which Amy vetoed immediately. Making Charles godfather would only allow him into their lives further. And she loves her husband’s best friend, she really does, but she doesn’t want their kid becoming obsessed with weird milk and beige-coloured clothes and the TV show Bunheads.
When Jake argues that nobody else is gonna love their kid more than Charles, Amy finally agrees. Charles will shower their baby with all the love in the world. And if Charles has any influence at all on his godchild, it will be that their kid will be just as big a fan of Jake as Charles is.
Unlike Rosa, they both agree that they can’t just ask Charles. It needs to be an event — like when Jake asked him to be his best man with sparklers and a big ol’ banner. Amy suggests they ask him on Halloween and they spend a full evening planning how it’s going to go down.
“This year’s object is this t-shirt,” Jake announces to the squad on the biggest night of the year, holding up a plain white t-shirt with the words “Amazing Human/Genius” printed in gold foiling. “Whoever has it in their possession at midnight will be declared the winner.”
Like Halloween V, Jake has the real prize waiting in the evidence lock-up. But he doesn’t tell anyone that.
When The Tramps (with Rosa in on Jake and Amy’s secret) barge into the evidence lock-up at two minutes before midnight, thinking they’re finally the champions, Charles is the first to lift the t-shirt out of the storage box.
(It was the one with the uneven dust pattern, just like when Jake proposed to Amy, just like he’d heard a million times over when he asked to hear the story on a bi-weekly basis).
He furrows his brow when he realises the words don’t say what they’re supposed to.
Jake and Amy jump out from behind a stack of evidence boxes and Charles shrieks. For a second they think they’ve caused yet another colleague to die from a heart attack, but he somehow stays on his feet.
“Amazing Godfather/Genius,” he reads the adapted text, trembling like a leaf. His eyes meet Jake’s, who nods, confirming that, yes, his wildest dreams have indeed come true.
“What do you say, bud?” Jake prompts.
“Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!”
Amy laughs happily as she watches her husband and his best friend embrace, exchanging wide grins with Terry and Rosa. Their kid is a lucky guy or girl with their entire Nine-Nine family looking out for them.
There’s only one last thing to do.
++
They arrange to have dinner with Holt and Kevin to ask them if they will be the “god-grandfathers” of their unborn child.
(“God-grandfathers are not a thing, Peralta,” Amy had said when he first proposed the word, rolling her eyes.
“Who says?”
“The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, for starters.”
“Well, it’s a thing now,” Jake decided. He’d never cared for the Merriam-Webster Dictionary before, so why should he now? No use changing the habit of a lifetime. “It’s our thing. Because they’re our #Dads. I wouldn’t feel comfortable raising our kid without them.”
Her face softened, tears pricking at her eyes — those damn pregnancy hormones again — and she finally agreed. “God-grandfathers it is.”)
She’s incredibly nervous by the time they’re at the front door of the Holt-Cozner home, her fingers twisting the ends of her hair into a messy braid.
Jake places his hand atop hers, stilling her fingers. He gives her hand a supportive squeeze. “It’s gonna be great, Ames.”
They don’t bring it up until there’s a lull in conversation mid-way through the casserole Kevin prepared for them, unable to wait any longer. Even Jake is a little anxious, his leg bouncing beneath the table, when he broaches the subject.
“You know how Charles and Rosa are going to be our baby’s godparents?”
“Yes, I recall Raymond mentioning the fact,” Kevin responds. “Apparently it is all Detective Boyle talks about.”
“He’s very excited,” Amy says, amused. She finds herself less annoyed and more touched by Charles’ antics when they’re directed at others and not her or her email inbox.
“Well, Ames and I would love it if you two would have an important role in our kid’s life because, I don’t know if you’ve noticed because we’re super subtle about it, but we kind of consider you both as father figures.”
“We have noticed.”
“You are not subtle at all,” Holt assures them.
“Cool, cool, cool. No doubt. No doubt. No doubt. What do you say? Would you like to be the god-grandfathers to Nakatomi Peralta?”
“Please tell me you’re not naming your child after a building from your favourite movie,” Holt says disapprovingly.
“No,” Jake scoffs, then, under his breath, “Nakatomi is a character, too.”
“We would be honoured.” Kevin smiles lovingly at his husband, then at Jake and Amy. After a few seconds, his smile falls. “Although you are aware god-grandfathers are not a real thing, yes?”
“It’s our thing,” Amy repeats Jake’s words from earlier, beaming from ear to ear.
++
When their baby arrives, seven point five pounds of perfection, they have a lot of visitors, all wanting to feast their eyes on the precious addition to the family. The grandparents get first hold (apparently Victor and Roger had another arm wrestling match in the hospital waiting room to decide who got the very first hold), then Amy’s brothers that live in the city, then the godparents and god-grandparents.
Charles starts crying the moment he’s in the same room as her, only stopping when Amy threatens to make him leave.
Rosa smiles more than either Jake and Amy have ever seen her smile.
Captain Holt is quite simply enamoured with the little bundle of blankets, unable to mask his emotions in his usual robotic way when his god-granddaughter grips his pinky finger.
Jake and Amy exchange proud parent smiles as they watch their hours-old daughter with four of the people they trust most, knowing she will always be safe, loved and happy when in their arms.

So....I watched the live action Aladdin....and...
I actually liked it????
I mean, yeah, I would probably still say I prefer the original animation, but I still had a lot of fun with this adaptation.
Because it DID actually feel like an adaptation, not a remake. They didn’t just redo the same movie with all the same exact shots and all the same exact lines. Yeah, they keep a lot of the same story and character beats, but they also change things up too. They switch them around, or they do a similar scene but in a different location or a little bit different context because of a new scene before it. And they don’t try so hard to keep everything the same as the original so the new stuff actually makes sense for this version.
There are still some things I didn’t like as much, but it wasn’t enough to ruin it for me. Still, I wanna talk about them, so I’ll just make a list.
Things I liked:
- Will Smith as the Genie was great. He definitely made the character his own, and it seems like he had a lot of fun doing it. He’s great in all the scenes that he’s in, and Friend Like Me was very well done.
- I also really like how they expand on Aladdin and Genie’s friendship. All of their scenes are fun to watch. (Except for maaaybe the scene with Aladdin as Prince Ali meeting the Sultan and Jasmine. I was torn between awkward giggling and major secondhand embarrassment during that scene. “And what are you hoping to buy?” “You.” Me: Oh nooooooo)
- I’m also pretty okay with the changes to Jasmine’s character - again, because they make it make sense for this version. I was ready to roll my eyes because of some screenshots I saw of some interviews before the movie came out where they act like they HAD to change Jasmine because she was just a princess stereotype or something because she never mentioned wanting to be Sultan or whatever (which is just...dumb, and I’m so very tired of Disney princess bashing but ANYWAY). The movie itself is what matters most when watching, not some dumb interviews, and so taking the movie in its own context, I enjoyed the arc Jasmine goes through. It works for this version of the character, and I’m really happy to be able to say that both Original Jasmine and New Jasmine are great.
- And of course I enjoy expanding on the relationship between Aladdin and Jasmine as well. Their scenes are fun.
- The change to Iago being more of a normal bird is also fine. He still has some funny moments.
- It’s a small moment, but I like that after Aladdin goes back on his promise to set the Genie free, he returns to his old home and we get a new little reprise of One Jump Ahead. That was a nice touch.
- Also, I don’t know if it was intentional on the costume designer’s part, or if it’s just me over-thinking, but I think it’s kinda neat. Anyway, we know that the bracelets on Genie’s wrists are a symbol of his imprisonment to the lamp. He is not free to do whatever he wants whenever he wants; he is bound to his life of being stuck in a lamp and giving three wishes to whoever lets him out.
Now, who else also has an important bracelet in this movie? Jasmine, the princess who is trapped in a life of rules and tradition, where questions and change are not allowed. She says herself she is not free to see the world. She, like Genie, is bound to a circumstance and situation she does not want to be in.
Again, not sure if I’m just over-thinking too much, since Jasmine’s bracelet is something she cherishes since it was her mother’s. But still, I think it’s a nice parallel between the two.
Mixed like/dislike:
- The new song, Speechless, is really nice and I like it. But it does feel a little out of place to me. It doesn’t quite fit with the style of the original songs. But it’s fits well with Jasmine’s arc in this one, so I still enjoy it.
- Jafar is....meh? I don’t entirely hate the changes to his character. In fact, I like the idea of him formerly being a thief like Aladdin and somehow clawing his way up the hierarchy to gain more power and prestige. It’s an interesting parallel, and it adds nicely to Aladdin’s arc. But other than that, he’s really kind of...boring? Sure, the original Jafar isn’t really deep or anything, but he at least is a pretty intimidating and terrifying villain. This Jafar is just...a dude who doesn’t really show a lot of emotion. He’s not particularly scary or intimidating.
- The Sultan is also kinda meh? It’s not terrible that they made him a little more serious of a character (makes more sense here than it did with live action Maurice tbh) (sorry I had to throw at least a little shade at the 2017 Beauty and the Beast remake at SOME point okay I am only human)
I do like the scenes at the end with him and Jasmine, especially when you see him tearing up while watching her stand up to Jafar. It’s really sweet.
Things I didn’t like:
- Wow, the Cave of Wonders really is dull in this one. Obviously they don’t need to make it exactly like the original, but making it just a motionless cave entrance is a huge downgrade.
- I don’t really like that they change the line in the Prince Ali song from “Heard your princess was a sight lovely to see” to “Heard your princess was hot. Where is she?” Just.....why? The original line is still talking about her appearance (albeit in a nicer way), so she can still roll her eyes and walk away like she does in the original. So the change is dumb.
- It does feel like in some moments they gloss over some things just because they know we’ve seen the original. I mostly noticed this in a few small moments, like Aladdin giving the kid his bag of dates. In the original, that moment is lingered on a little bit longer. He’s getting ready to eat, and then he sees the two kids. We get a few seconds to see him deciding on what to do, and so when he ultimately decides to give his food to the kids instead of keeping it for himself, it’s a strong moment that shows the audience the kind of person Aladdin is. Even after all that trouble just for a loaf of bread, he’s still willing to give it to someone else. (And the scene is made even better with the way Abu begrudgingly gives up his loaf of bread, which is also a great character moment for him.)
Of course, since this is an adaptation of the original, we know Aladdin already. And to be fair, it’s not entirely necessary in this version, since we get him meeting Jasmine before the moment with the kid happens, so it doesn’t have to be a big character moment. But it was just kinda funny to me that this version is just like “Okay, I just traded a necklace I stole for two bags of dates... Oh, there’s a kid here? Aw, okay, kiddo, here. Bye now!”
And then immediately after we get the scene with Aladdin and the pompous prince. Only here it also feels like it’s just kinda thrown in quickly since it was from the original. Aladdin and the snobby prince don’t really have any back and forth banter in this one though. Aladdin saves a kid from being run over, says a line, and then the prince is just like “Why are you talking to me? You’re worthless. Bye.” Like, c’mon, I love the line where Aladdin calls him a horse butt, why leave it out? lol
These are the two I remember the most, and obviously, I’m nitpicking a little bit here. Glossing over these scenes didn’t ruin the movie for me or anything.
---
I think that’s it? That’s all I can think of right now.
So yeah, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. I still wish they’d stop this live action trend, but at least this does show they ARE capable of making these good too when they actually try. A good production value means nothing if you’re just doing the exact same thing you already did.
Make changes! Focus on the characters! Understand the characters! Have some fun!
I know you’re capable of making good versions of these live action movies, Disney. So do that, please.

To whoever is reading this,
Hello!
Do you think humans have a need to be recognized and remembered? A lot of stuff is happening around the world right now and I feel really caught in the middle of it. And as my mortality is made more and more evident by a virus on a world tour, I’ve decided on doing this. Whatever this is.
To be honest, I need an outlet. I’ve been feeling a little down and listless lately since I’m spending a lot of my time at home and I can’t find it in myself to worry the people around me with something that’s probably already bothering them. That seems a little selfish. I don’t want to be selfish.
I actually write in my journal once in a while and talk about stuff like this. But like I said before, I think I also have a need to be recognized. I’m sure anyone that’s ever been on the Internet knows that “Once on the Internet, forever on the Internet” thing. Maybe one day, somebody will read this blog and think “Wow, there was one other person in this world that felt like I do right now” or “Wow, what a try hard”. Nevertheless, maybe one day somebody will read this and remember that I existed. Maybe not. I’m motivated to do this today and so I’m doing it.
As a little background, my life kind of took a turn 8 months ago. It’s not as dramatic as what saying that might have made you think. I haven’t acquired any superpowers, sadly enough, and all my family members are still intact. In fact, maybe that’s a good place to start. My family is very big on the ‘always being there for each other’ thing, as should any family be. But that mentality really took a toll on my life. In that I moved across the globe to a completely different country on a different continent because my sister got into college there. Most people might think that high school are the years of your life you spend with your best friends, people you’ve known since the beginning of time but sometimes, in very special cases like mine, the universe tries to be a little trash bucket and ruins everything. I love being with my sister and my family but adapting to completely new surroundings and going to school with strangers all of a sudden really messed with my mental health and the pandemic just made it worse.
I’ve cried about it quite a bit but the one thing all that crying taught me was that it’s not very effective. Nothing works out just because you’re upset. You need to put effort into everything for it to work out and that’s what I’ve been doing. It’s helped a little to stay focused and try and get back into my routine from before the move. Life goes on, I suppose.
But yeah, that’s my story. I think everyone has one of these. even if the details are a little different. This blog has started on a whim that I might bail on at any time. I can’t promise consistency in any aspect - size, content, format, even updates. They’ll come when they come and for as long as I have the motivation.
Follow to see where my life goes, I guess? Till the next time.

why do you think druck sucks? just curious because i thought the story line adaption was interesting
the only good decisions they’ve made have been casting michaelangelo and lukas & whoever plays amira, deciding to make their even trans (although debatable bc the way they treated him really sucked), and whoever wrote the few davenzi scenes we got made some points
druck is cold and unfeeling, the majority of the relationships have no chemistry including the girl squad and boy squad (davenzi is the exception from this) it’s fake woke and the writing is messy as hell, they handled mia’s bisexuality and her sexual assault horribly, they treated david horribly, there’s nothing redeeming about this show for me besides davenzi and even that is like… ok druck lucked out with these 2 but it doesn’t make it a good show! it’s not warm or loving it’s just cold plus druck stans are so rude & they ruined the few enjoyable things about druck for me

Good, Bad, Tru... Neutral Ending: What Makes a Good Anime-Only Ending?
Alternate Title: Me ranting about how much I loved Takagi-san's finale while looking back on what could have been for Nakageno's.
It's that time again, and another season of anime draws to a close. Whether you really liked it, or are waiting for your favourite sequel to return in fall (Isn't it fall already?) is up to you. And once again, I have stuff to rant about as I compare my two fav shows of Summer 2019: Teasing Master Takagi-San S2, and Naka no Hito Genome (The Ones Within).
Both of these anime ending up getting anime original endings to close out their run, and I couldn't help but notice how much more I enjoyed one over another. So, as a manga reader of both, I took it upon my procrastinating self to compile a list of questions to determine whether an anime-exclusive ending is horribly bad, unexpectedly amazing, or just okay.
SPOILERS BELOW FOR BOTH FINALES!
(Will be a multi-part post. I really should have expected that.)
But first, a brief summary of both just to recap. Feel free to skip.
Takagi-san's finale stars Nishikata and Takagi-san visiting a summer festival together. We have our typical games between the two in form of a competition at a fair ground game to pick up the most fish, and competing for the most points at ring toss. However, we get a lot more teases at romantic moments for the two as they wander around and hang out. We also check in briefly on almost all other important characters: Yukari's trio, Nishikata's friends, Takagi's friend, Mano and Nakai, Hamaguchi and Hojo, and even their sensei. The climax happens as Takagi and Nishikata get separated in the crowd just before the fireworks show, reaching a peak when the reunite just after the show ends. But my boy finally managed to hold Takagi's hand willingly, so all is well in the world for now!
Nakageno's finale starts of by adapting an extra from the manga that has the gamers wonder if Maki-Maki has a girlfriend after hearing him mention a “Sumire-chan”, with a little bonus scene to end it off. Then the completely anime-only content begins as Paka announces a bonus stage for the group. They can play in a RPG-themed arcade and bet coins to exchange for prizes after the stage ends in two hours. One of these prizes includes a ticket that allows for any wish of the user to be granted—as long as it is confined in Naka no Hito Genome. We see the characters gamble on a variety of games—tossing in some Mario and Dragon Quest references—before Aki falls in a pitfall on the real-life board game he is playing. In order to rescue him before the time limit ends, the rest of the group rallies together to gamble and win enough coins for the “Any Wish Granted” ticket to rescue him. They succeed and Aki is rescued, teasing at some important characters near the very end.
1: Has the anime built up to this ending? OR
Does it tie in with previous scenes, either anime originals or from the manga?
An anime-only ending feels less forced if there is proper build-up before the finale. Having scenes that either foreshadow or are references in the finale makes the whole narrative feel more cohesive. Both had the opportunity in episodes around the late middle to set up as Takagi-san's episode 7 and Nakageno's episode 8 were both episode with content not directly from the main manga chapters. Which did it better?
Good: Takagi-san
Takagi-san did an expert job of building up to its finale through the addition of anime original content.
Takagi-san has proven its ability to weave manga chapters together through the addition of anime-exclusive content this season as most skits had a small extra bit of dialogue that tied it to the one to come after it. But, what about episode 12 specifically?
First for foreshadowing and hype anticipation, Nishikata actually asked Takagi to come with him to the summer festival as the ending of episode 11. This provided both a great climax for episode 11, and build up for the summer festival in the next episode. Nishikata asking Takagi san out was even built up to by revealing in episode 11 that the fight Takagi had with her mom over their family vacation was to stop the vacation from happening during the festival.
Then, the episode tied back to not only the other plotlines they created for characters such as Yukari and friends, and Hamaguchi and Hojo; but episode 12 paralleled episode 7 very nicely.
Episode 7 served as a mid-season climax where all the skits revolved around an anime-only trip to go camping. The episode itself was fairly standard in format—ignoring the connected setting—with three distinct skits:
-Nishikata attempting to win a game where Takagi guess the type of snack through its flavour, only to end up losing because he can't get himself to feed Takagi the food he needed to win.
-Major hand-holding teasing through a fireside dance that claims whoever holds hands when the music stops will fall in love, with our two just missing out.
-And Nishikata watching the stars with Takagi after he sneaks out of his tent and has to hide from their teacher—something Nishikata nearly messes up as he doesn't believe Takagi's statement about the teacher at first.
The only thing really of note was the teasing about the hand holding, something that was teased all the way back at season 2's first episode where Nishikata held Takagi hand to stop her from falling into the river, and kept fresh in our minds through skits such as Ice, Arm Wrestling, and Revenge.
What happens in the finale?
Well, Nishikata tries to give Takagi one of his takoyaki, only to back out after she opens her mouth to feed it to her.
Nishikata loses the ring toss game because he assumes Takagi is bluffing about seeing their teacher during his throw, only for him to appear and startle Nishikata enough to ruin his toss.
And though the special event of the fireworks has ended, Nishikata decides to willingly hold Takagi's hand.
This gives this final episode—and especially its climax—that emotional payoff we've been waiting all season to be fulfilled.
For an anime original ending, the studio should prepare and build up to events of the final episode early on, either through the addition of anime only content or re-purposing manga chapters to fit the finale.
As for Nakageno...
Bad: Nakageno
There was no build-up to the anime only content of this episode before it began. Any foreshadowing of events happened within the episode itself. This makes the events feel more rushed and self-contained, rather than a climax that the show built up to and prepared for. The fact that this game has to be a bonus level to avoid modifying the number of chromosomes won also doesn't help.
And episode 8 has no benefits to make this episode feel more natural in the series progression. Episode 8's content wasn't from the main chapters of the manga, but it came from extras that provided their own self-contained stories and skits; truly acting as filler and confusing manga fans and anime onlys alike on its adaptation into the anime.
The closest thing we had to build up for the events of episode 12 come from the one right before it (episode 11), with Sumire-chan being mentioned and Aki's mother being teased while he's in the pitfall.
However, the ending does not even capitalize on the emotional impact Aki could go through seeing his mother as the scenes are vague and leave you with more mystery with answers. Though, I guess that could have been the purpose? To tease at his backstory? But it doesn't help the build up.
If an anime original ending comes out of nowhere, with no scenes building it up or tying it closer to the other episodes, it will lack the proper build-up and narrative cohesion it needs to stick the landing.
Please stayed tuned for part 2!
