I just think, the idea that Disha is lying about Kyoshi's honor and stuff to put some kind of wedge between Roku and Kyoshi would be really cool and spy-y and would fit really well with the weird Cold War-eque/espionage that Roku's era seems to want to emulate. It'd be a cool way of making him doubt himself without realizing he's doubting himself.

And it'd also force a parallel between Roku/Kyoshi and Kyoshi/Kuruk. How, while Kuruk appeared in RoK and Kyoshi didn't have the best opinion of him, really ramped up in her sequel novel to the point she wanted to fucking brawl him. The way it's set up now, Roku's timidness and confusion with Kyoshi could easily fester into the same hatred and want to confront her in Roku's sequel novel too.

And I'm also just grasping at straws but I just really fucking hate how RR is trying to drag Kyoshi through the gd mud. And like it just doesn't work with the knowledge we already know about her and he could've done something (anything really, he didn't utilize her at all) else with her character in Rokus era that would've better explored... and I'm also a bit of a bitter bitch about it. tbh

In this server, we are hosting a literate roleplay based within the wonderful A Song of Ice & Fire universe created by George R. R. Martin. We only allow admins that are 18+ or older. The roleplay is a canon-divergent experience, set in an alternate universe where Viserys I Targaryen was never king, and other histories and canon backstories have been rewritten.

When the reign of King Jaehaerys the Conciliator came to an end, he did not choose his granddaughter Rhaenys to succeed him out of his prejudices. Instead, he named her younger brother, Aegon, as his heir and thus the son of Jocelyn Baratheon and Aemon Targaryen became King Aegon, the Second of His Name. At only eighteen, he inherited a grand realm and an era of peace that he would one day hope to shape into an empire.

Then arrived the 14th year of Aegon II’s reign, in the year 112 AC, and trouble was afoot, especially with his aunt — the infamous Saera Targaryen — suddenly returning from Westeros. On top of this, the Ironborn had grown restless and other seeds of unrest and discord were beginning to spring up throughout the realm.

Two years have passed since this chaos started. It is currently the year 114 AC. Aemon Targaryen, rider of Sunfyre, is the eldest child of King Aegon, and is claiming his rightful inheritance of Dragonstone now that he is six-and-ten years of age. However, his ascent looks to be met with the same chaos that still plagued the realm two years prior. Meanwhile, his parents continue to face hardship as they attempt to keep the whole realm in check. It doesn’t help that Princess Saera seems to be plotting something. . .

With disturbances in the realm at every turn, battles to be fought, and the looming paranoia that comes with prophecies, there is no telling how this story will unfold. But it is yours to write.

How does it work? Simple. Let’s say you were writing Aegon the Conqueror. We know that he was born in 27 BC, and he died in 37 AC. This means that you could write any plot that takes place during his lifetime that your heart desires. You would make a linear timeline for him by putting the date at the start of every rp, exploring what you wanted from his late 20s and the Conquest, to the end of his reign, to whatever you wished. He can interact with all the other characters that are alive at any point during his lifetime. Rinse and repeat for any other character you like that lived between the Century of Blood and the Song of Ice & Fire eras.

But things are still organized and the eras are kept separate. For instance, Jon Snow can’t go have tea with Aegon the Conqueror because their lives would never ever intersect. Aegon II can’t have a chitchat with Maegor. Crossover rps like that would have to be reserved for threads within our AU channel, which does not effect the rest of the server. So while the server may seem messy at first glance, the timeline of events is still linear to the dates that they happened, and it is overall a sandbox for people itching to write the canon eras ( or incorporate OCs into them ) without needing to join six different servers to meet all their needs.

What are some of your greatest writing/stylistic inspirations, or works that have really influenced you?

When They Cry is the obvious one for TFTBN, and there are a lot of Shinhonkaku-isms and VN-isms generally (I think I've used the 'puppet with its strings cut' line like 3 times at this point, lmao) and I could probably give some other particular answers for specific subplots and threads in the story, if anyone is curious. But in terms of my overall writing inspirations, that's kind of hard to answer... I've consumed so much stuff that's impacted me that it's hard to trace it all back and pick out the most important without writing an essay.

I guess to speak very generally in terms of what got me started writing in the first place, my biggest fantasy influences are probably Terry Pratchett and Le Guin, my biggest sci-influence is probably Iain Banks, and my biggest mystery influence is probably John Dickson Carr-- All pretty typical stuff, except for horror, which like I say on my RR profile is honestly more old RPG Maker games than anything literary.

I have done many nice things for various characters, I'll have you know, both in fan fic and original stuff, but since this is you I'll go specifically to my Wolfen's Rage crew, and point out that 1) none of them get eaten by a wolfen, and 2) I changed my original plans for the trilogy and they will all survive the final battle, it does not get any nicer than that (...although Mentras may disagree with me by the time his sub-plot is finished)

🐠 - author who inspires you

In terms of fan fiction, I have a few long term favorites, but no one is awe-inspiring like @astolat, whose long-shots are amazingly in-depth, to say nothing of the multi-chapter fics that consume my brain in its entirety every time a new one is posted. The sheer dedication to take an idea and see it through to the masterful conclusion is just- ugh, I want to write like that. I need to build up my patience to do it, but someday I will get there

As for published authors, I'm torn between George RR Martin, for much the same reason (that long-running commitment to a project, which for him and A Song of Ice and Fire began out of spite, the intention to create a book series no movie studio would ever want to touch with a fifty foot pole for sheer intricacy and the constant awareness that yeah, any character can die, even the main ones, long before the story itself is done) and Terry Pratchett, whose Wee Free Men caught the attention of my pre-teen self and opened the door to Discworld, where hope wears steel toe boots and just because something isn't true doesn't mean you can't believe in it, since how else can it become?

I'm on RR and I too have noticed these ads that I never see anywhere else 😂 They're not that weird to me, but maybe that's cause I'm used to them now. Seems quite specific to RR, but also, it's just another variation of the tropes ad that a lot of writers use.

Like, in this book you'll find enemies to lovers, dual pov, villain with a heart, etc etc, and every point has an arrow that leads back to the image of the book cover. You know those ads? I feel like the RR ones are just that, but made niche, specific to RR readers, of whom there are hundreds who truly do want isekai, rpg leveling systems, litrpg, gamelit, etc etc. It's the same thing but applied to what works extremely well over there to attract readers.

And you're right they're fascinating! 😂

The meme ones and other pseudo-advertisement ads are just the icing on the cake though 😂 save the world or save the cutie? Scritch Luna or scritch Luna? Honestly they're appealing to internet culture with the memes and joke ads, and they do work through sheer entertainment value probably.

But! One thing I'm not happy with is for sure the AI generated art, and especially not happy with the art used without permission from the artists.

One thing to note is that it's not like they're selling the stories either for the most part. All the stories there are free, so it probably also works because people are more likely to take a chance - you just need to get them on the page and you can do that with a fun ad. Sure, I'll click on a wacky ad for a cute dragon story. What do I have to lose?

so on royalroad, the english-language serial webnovel website, there's ads created by users for other stories at the top of each chapter - you know, for the common case where you're reading a book and you want to suddenly start reading a different book. (they set it up in a way that's fiddly to block.)

they're kinda fascinating? I almost want to start collecting them. they triangulate into genres with bulletpoints. isekai. cultivation. reincarnation. yes romance. no romance. harem. no harem. some of them use anime-styled art or fantasy concept art (most likely a lot of it either AI-generated or used without permission/attribution, I get the vibe)... but a lot of them are straight up just memes.

How does it work? Simple. Let’s say you were writing Aegon the Conqueror. We know that he was born in 27 BC, and he died in 37 AC. This means that you could write any plot that takes place during his lifetime that your heart desires. You would make a linear timeline for him by putting the date at the start of every rp, exploring what you wanted from his late 20s and the Conquest, to the end of his reign, to whatever you wished. He can interact with all the other characters that are alive at any point during his lifetime. Rinse and repeat for any other character you like that lived between the Century of Blood and the Song of Ice & Fire eras.

But things are still organized and the eras are kept separate. For instance, Jon Snow can’t go have tea with Aegon the Conqueror because their lives would never ever intersect. Aegon II can’t have a chitchat with Maegor. Crossover rps like that would have to be reserved for threads within our AU channel, which does not effect the rest of the server. So while the server may seem messy at first glance, the timeline of events is still linear to the dates that they happened, and it is overall a sandbox for people itching to write the canon eras ( or incorporate OCs into them ) without needing to join six different servers to meet all their needs.

Made a page for the RPG characters (to go along with the show-only and video game character pages that previously removed half of these yahoos, thankfully), and they're gone. But my god, checking the RPG books is just an exercise in face journeys. 🤨😬

Targaryen forces besieged and badly damaged the Dannetts’ keep early in the Rebellion. […] The lord of House Dannett is Alfric Dannett, many years a widower. Sandor Clegane’s own blade cut down one brother (an act Alfric secretly harbors hopes to avenge someday). I'm sorry, but if your schlub Riverlands house is on Robert's side and yet two of you get killed by Lannisters (also on Robert's side!) 🤨 during the Sack of King's Landing (as the Lannisters didn't participate in any other RR battle), including getting murked by a 12-year-old, 😬 I think it's your own damn fault, no matter how memorable his face is.

also the Dannett daughter didn't want to marry an old guy, ran away from home, got captured and raped by bandits, 😬 ended up in KL as a high-priced courtesan. 🤨 And if the schlubs aren't enough for you, the villain house in this game, House Lugus (Lord Konrad Lugus, married to Luisa, a Clegane cousin. uh huh), could not be more over-the-top ridiculous...
