pleeease give a review for infinity nikki ive been thinking about downloading it but i dont know if i have the space and if its worth it to clear some up for it !!!
as someone who spent HOURS on flash-based dollmakers as a kid, i absolutely love it. the gameplay hits somewhere between dressup game and open-world RPG, in that there's a large botw-like open map to explore, but the express purpose of exploring it is to unlock new clothes for your character. The exploration itself feels very calm and cozy most of the time, with the emphasis being on small collection tasks like fishing, bug-catching, and foraging. again, all of this is specifically to craft new outfits for nikki which you can both coordinate with no limitations to wear in the open world and use in scored styling contests with npcs, some of which reward you with game currency and some of which help you progress the story quests. the only place where i feel the gameplay truly suffers is in combat. you have one attack, and it's a ranged shooter, but there's no aim-assist whatsoever, and the mobile joystick isn't NEARLY sensitive enough to justify this. aiming in combat is one of the most difficult parts of the game, and nikki can only take 5 hits before she dies and has to respawn, making combat decently frustrating. However, there are very few places where combat is strictly necessary in-game, and both of the boss battles i've done so far had hitboxes large enough that it wasn't an issue; it's really in the open world against hordes of smaller enemies that the lack of targeting becomes really frustrating. other than that, though, the controls are fairly well-designed and intuitive, especially if you've played similar games before.
The clothes themselves are the star of the show, of course. I've yet to see a single clothing item in the game that I don't want. there's a good mix of fancy intricate outfit pieces and basics to obtain early-on, and without even touching the gacha you can coordinate some really cute outfits via in-universe boutiques and quests that reward you with clothes. Even the very obviously themed ability outfit sets that you craft early on almost always have a few pieces that are easy to mix and match with, so there's a TON of styling potential even for free players! As for the gacha, it's actually one of the more generous games i've played in terms of rewards and pity systems. My one complaint so far is that the 5-star gacha outfits especially seem to be very accessory-heavy, meaning it's possible to pull shoes, multiple necklaces, gloves, socks, and hairpieces before ever pulling the dress they're very obviously designed around. there is a pity mechanic to prevent this, but it requires you to pull a few too many times before your guarantee imo.
The story is ridiculous in a good way. It kind of reads like a 2000s-era barbie movie to me right now, in the best way possible. there's an amazingly predictable sexy villain, cute little flying creatures that follow you around, and every conflict is, of course, solved via clothes in one way or another. My absolute favorite thing about the writing, though, is how blatantly earnest it all is. at no point does the game poke fun at its own wacky concept or even attempt to make some self-aware joke about it to the player--it plays everything completely straight, and in this aspect it almost feels MORE self-aware. it knows that the kind of person who wants to play a dressup rpg is also the kind of person who does not, under any circumstances whatsoever, want to be questioned or made fun of for their love of fashion or their engagement with that game. It very much feels like the devs know that they're working with primarily girls and young women and a subject matter that those girls and young women are often looked down upon or made fun of for seriously engaging with, and so it promises to engage EXTRA-seriously to make up for that. (side note: there's one point in a story quest where, when asked to make a wish, nikki wishes that all girls never get cramps again. that was when i knew this was a game that knew its audience.) If I wanted to nitpick, i might say that every quest so far has sort of felt like an increasingly ridiculous trading sequence--you learn what you need to do very early on, but you'll always spend several hours of gameplay encountering obstacles and doing other smaller tasks to circumvent those obstacles so you can reach your original goal. this might annoy me more if the game was trying to market itself as a serious RPG, but it seems very self-aware to me, and despite how i'm describing it none of the quests ive played have actually FELT tedious. I think the fact that it's such a wild concept to begin with gives the writers a bit of leeway in how they handle the story quests, and because I as the player am aware i'm playing a dressup game I don't really expect quests to immediately get to the point and let me fight something. I will say that there are certain things that aren't super intuitive especially if you aren't a seasoned gacha rpg player, particularly the features relating to advancing your skills and the styling points of your clothing. though the game does technically explain what you need to do, it doesn't explain the RELEVANCE of the feature, just that it exists, so I had to lose multiple styling contests before I realized i could upgrade my clothing to get higher scores.
The final thing I'll talk about is performance. I'm playing the game on my iphone 13, and the performance is.... not great, i'm ngl. Off the bat, if you play the game on a mobile device, you're going to be getting a HEAVILY scaled-down version of the terrain graphics. all of those screenshots you see online of beautiful terrain full of flowers and particle effects are from ps5s or custom pcs. truthfully, the mobile app looks like a game from 2012 and it will still turn your phone into an incinerator. I've also encountered multiple graphics bugs, some during pivotal scenes, and I get consistent lags when playing for longer than a few hours, likely due to the strain on my phone's hardware. it's also an INSANE battery drain, so i only play when my phone is plugged in. All that being said, the game has been out for less than a week, so visual bugs are inevitable, and the developers have stated that mobile optimization is a priority, so hopefully we'll at the very least no longer have to overheat our devices to play it soon. Also worth noting, from what I've seen the rendering of the CLOTHING doesn't suffer AT ALL on mobile devices. presumably they sacrificed terrain rendering to allow for such beautiful texturing on the clothing itself, which, given that the clothing is the main focus of the game, I can't fault them for. Basically, if you're going to try to run an unreal engine game on your iphone, be aware that it will run like an unreal engine game on an iphone. and prepare yourself to have to let your device cool down every few hours.
tldr: i love the game so far. i'm really excited to keep playing and see where the story goes, and I think they should make more games for girls <3

Quest: Find a lost boy who ran away from home to the forest.
Character(s): Orc (Oc / Original work) Summary: You headed to the forest in search of the boy and happened to find an orc camp and somewhere on the side saw the boy in the hands of a tall orc. Tags/warnings: Yandere!monster (male monster), fem!reader, kidnapped/trapped, violence (both to the reader and outside), constant fear of being eaten, running away, being treated like a pet Note: Just to make sure while I was writing this I wasn't thinking the dnd style kind of thing but more so the generic common monsters that you find in games that you must kill RPG. (.... just that the orc is very tall and buff...)
{ - JRPG Quest masterlist - }
Tumblr media
Find a boy who ran away from home. The boy had gotten into a fight with his father because he didn't want to help out with work preferring to go out and spend time with his friends. The boy had run away in the morning but didn't come back home even after the sun started to set. His parents were worried and looked everywhere in the village but no sight of the boy.
They found out that someone had seen the boy running to the forest alone. They were in terrified when they heard it and the father wanted to walk straight into the woods and search for his son but was stopped by his friends who tried to calm him down. The man was nothing more than a farmer and it would be dangerous for him to go into the forest like this when there was many monsters lurking within the woods. It was preferable that someone who had the skills to handle it.
That is probably where you come in when you took the quest. Their pay wasn't really luxurious which was understandable for a farmer's family you thought that there could be a chance that their friends also chipped in a bit of money to help out in paying the fee.
But what you found in the search was something different and more severe for it could cost the lives of the whole village.
Ho... you looked at the camp made out of goblins and orcs. This was too dangerous for you to handle alone you thought to yourself as you looked at the armed orcs and the laughing goblins carrying rusty swords.
Goblins in this world are not necessarily the smartest, or most powerful strength or stealth wise as a matter of fact they are known to be weak alone and even beginner hunters can mostly take care of them if given the right training. And while many tend to stick in groups of 30 or less you never really saw this many of them at once.
There were more than 80 goblins from what you can see. Wild monsters that laugh so painfully to your ears as you were sure that there were more. Yet you could not help but gulp when you saw the many orcs around the tribe while not as many as the goblins they were half the many as goblins. Tall green-skinned monsters were taller than the people that you know. Long canine teeth show as they guard the borders of the camp with strong builds, tattoos, and necklaces of skulls both humans and other creatures you knew that these orcs were not for show.
You were supposed to run away and tell the guards of a nearby village that about the camp when you heard a small child screaming voice.
Running to the sound, you found a boy held by his collar by an orc. The boy tried to kick the orc yet it was useless when you compare their builds, the orc was too strong. That child was about to be taken by the orc when you screamed at them with your dagger out ready to hurt. "Realise the kid, unless you want to die." You warned the orc who stared at you. He didn't seem intimated at you, almost as if looking down at you with his bored stare.
He was taller than you, taller than humans. To him, you were nothing but a plant of wood at best or very thin twigs of bones.
Glancing at the child then at you as he moves the child back facing you, closer to you. You wondered if the monster was going to mock you for even trying, when you see his muscles you knew it might as well take three to four knights moving all together to even have a chance to take it down compared to an adventurer like you.
"Trade."
.... What...?
The gruff voice told you, not expecting them to say something like you have to do a double take wondering if you heard that wrong. Yet it seems that you weren't mistaken as he huffed in your silence.
"Trade boy. You stay."
"What..." You could not believe what the orc was talking telling you to trade your life if you wanted the boy to live. You considered it but fear swelled in your heart till you heard the boy's whimper and looked at him. Tears in the boy's eyes, he was terrified.
"You stay... boy let go. You mine." The orc repeated again, looking at you waiting he still held the boy on the neck.
The boy's life was within your hands. The boy whimpered again as the orc's grip tightened on the boy's clothes. He wasn't patient. "Trade!" You screamed at the orc your eyes on the boy.
The orc looked satisfied as he dropped the boy to the ground and as you tried to take the boy away cautious of the orc instead of attacking from a change of mind or taking the boy away saying that was all just him mocking you he instead grabbed you.
"HEY! LET GO OF ME!!" The orc tossed you on his shoulder as if you were nothing but a potato sack. You tried to scream as you beat his back with yours but he didn't seem bothered by your feeble attempts.
You yelled at the boy to get away from here and that you can handle yourself, the boy tried to help yet the moment he tried to grab a strong the orc growled at the flinching boy.
When you could not see the boy, far away that you were sure that he had time to run away if something goes terribly wrong you started to protest demanding that you would let down this instant as your leg and fist hit his muscles you knew he wasn't pained by any of your feeble attacks and what weapon you had was quickly tossed away by him the moment he threw you on his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
You were getting close to the camp...
You gulped as the goblins and orcs all stare at you in the arms of the orc, some goblins staring hungrily at you as if you were a meat buffet and maybe that was what they thought of you when one tried to reach out for your arm.
Only to freeze when the orc glared at the goblin growling as if warning the smaller weaker monsters to watch it. The goblin quickly backed away from you fearful of their own monster ally. You wondered if you were safe for a moment. Just a moment you thought that you would not be eaten at least not by them. You wondered if the orc wanted to eat you all to himself.
Into a camp hut, you were tossed into the stiff bed as you wondered if you would die right at this moment. Ripe limb from limb, you wanted to defend yourself but without a weapon and the orc being too tall, you didn't think you could even win much less escape as you will be mobbed by the monsters outside either way.
You didn't know what to do when he didn't do anything to you leaving you to do whatever you please in the tent, yet he did set boundaries when you tried to step out for a moment to look out or when you went too near to his weapons. He was watching you as sharpened his weapon, growling at you when you did something that you were supposed not to do.
While he let you go about the tent under his watch you could not help but flinch when he planned to head out for a moment, suddenly standing from whatever he was doing, grabbing you, and tossing you again to the bed with your leg tied with a rope to something heavy. After a while, he would come back with berries and fruits for you along with unknown meat (what tasted like a rabbit) and a water bucket.
At night he would join you in the makeshift bed holding you in his arms, you looked away from the monster that held you your heart beating fast as it was too close wondering when it would just bite your head off yet instead of that with his tight hold over you slowly he fell asleep, his breathing can be felt by your hair as you fearfully stayed still.
You thought of running, late at night unable to sleep you thought that this could be your chance to run away when all the other monsters were also asleep but the orc's arm was heavy, hugging your waist you could not help but move a little more than intended. As you tried to get up you checked to see if the orc was still sleeping only for you to stop breathing when you see him staring down at you, warning.
He was awake.
You can't help but wince as you tried to pull away in fear when the rope tied to your ankle stopped you from going any farther. You totally forgot about it... you looked down in instinct as if trying to show that you were small and that you were guilty and sorry. The orc huffed as he pulled you closer to his chest. Your head bumped into his long tusk.
Because of how you have been trying to move you were facing his chest now and pulled closer to him your nose bumped into his chest. You closed your eyes trying to act as if you were asleep sure that he was still watching you, daring to make any sudden movements.
He wasn't much of a talker and without your weapon, you weren't much of a fighter, you were a tiny human that a buffed orc kept like a pet in his own home. All he did was command you with one word, not fluent in human language but knowing just enough to force you to do something. For a moment you thought that the orc was actually nice when you noticed how careful he was around you as if you were fragile like glass.
What a horrible thought.
"Eat." A grape in from of your face but you looked away. It wasn't like you didn't want to but right now you just lost hope as he took you farther and farther away from your home. Tossed like a potato sack as the monster went farther and farther away from the nearest village. Yet when they found a village smaller than the one you save the boy was from, you could not help but feel bile come to your mouth as you heard the screams and fires a little away from you. You could not help them not when you were placed in a cage with other pitiful humans and guarded by more orcs.
As you pushed yourself away from the orc who finally collected you when the fire died down a little and more human slaves both young and old. How his clothes were tattered and burnt from the fire and blood stain his weapon and his hands as he grabbed you again and pulled you out of the cage to take you back. For a moment you thought that there was a reason why that skull necklace was on his neck and that it was something that was decoration.
You bite your lip as tears leaked from your eyes when he warningly growled if you were not eating something bad would happen slowly you took the grape to your mouth slowly munching in fear. He huffed again as he took another grape that you were sure was from the village that they raided killing anybody who tried to fight back.
You had to get away. Otherwise, you will really die.
It was a few days after the whole situation as you looked for a chance to run away when the whole place. When the orcs and goblins were moving again that day took a short break near a lake, the orc had left you under a tree to get some water. Maybe he trusted you a little that you would not run away anymore, at least he thought you didn't have the guts to actually run away.
But you did. When nobody was looking, already so used to your presence as the orc's pet you slowly sneaked away and when you were far enough made a mad dash.
You ran and ran even as you felt pain in your ribs you push through the suffering caring about living than a short pain. As you pant tired you still kept running through the forest but you tried your best in fear that this might be your first and last chance you could ever get away from the monsters. You were so desperate even as your legs wobbled you kept on running and didn't see a root of a tree sticking out that your foot caught on and tripped.
"Ow..." You mumbled as you tried to get up but could not help but hiss when you felt the pain in your ankle. You sprained it yet you could not dwell on those thoughts when you heard a loud roar, you knew that he found out that you left.
You need to hide, you need to hide. Looking around you crawled into a hollow log hoping that the orc would not find you. In a few seconds, you hear the sounds of stomps and you knew it was him pulling your legs closed to yourself you prayed that the orc would not look into the log and just give up.
However that hope was only shattered when you saw his face from the hole you crawled in, he was furious you could see in his eyes as he growled that he found you. Before you could crawl deeper into the hollow log away from the monster he grabbed your sprained ankle.
"Mate. Mine." You yelped when he dragged your feet pulling you out of the log with one hand, with how tight he was holding your ankle it hurt so much as he pulled you out upside down. Above the ground, you fearfully looked at the monster as blood rushed to your head. The monster was angry you could see it as he glared at you.
As he looked at your leg, you feared what was going through his head as his hand tightened around your ankle even more as if trying to break it. You screamed in pain as tears flew from your eyes to your forehead and hair. "I AM SORRY!! I AM SORRY!!" You cried out in fear that he would crush your bones to pieces making you unable to walk anymore.
Maybe he understood that you were scared and that you were actually sorry as the strength lessen. Tears still flowed from your eyes as he moved you to his arms now upright as he let go of your leg. You knew that you will not be able to walk for while not when you already sprained your ankle while running away and not when the lingering pain worsened because of the orc hand who was so close to breaking it as punishment for running away.
You are his mate or at least that was what he called you and now you could only doubt that you will ever be able to run away from his grasp. Not when he warned all the other monsters to watch you if you ever escape to catch you, not when he threatened you to dare leave and that he would break your legs if you do. Not when he placed a dog leash on your neck as he held the rope making sure that you will never leave him again.
Tumblr media
Note: Okay gotta be honest orcs/goblins are deff not my thing but I had to add either them or goblins one way or another cause it is like one of the most common monsters in RPG games apart from slimes. And since it is like probably impossible for me to think of any goblin scenarios (I tried ;-;) I went for orcs. My mind the whole time was most deff thinking of a buff man than an orc so it may or may not have leaked in my writing. BUT ANYWAY HOPE YOU LIKE IT~!

No Small Feat Art Pt. 5 - Little Girl Lost Arc
By request, I'm gonna show off some of the artwork for No Small Feat, a Midgaheim story my friends and I told through the TTRPG system Fabula Ultima. I drew a lot of characters and monsters for it, and my friends - in particular, @dragonzzilla, @scatha5, and @dinosaurana - helped line and color them so we'd have cute little sprites to use on our online battlemaps, which really helped sell the whole "we're playing an oldschool turn based RPG" vibe that Fabula Ultima's system is going for.
In this part, we're gonna look at the many NPCs introduced in the campaign's third arc, Little Girl Lost!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The titular little girl of the arc was Dora Raine, who one of my players described as "the saddest girl I've ever seen." Dora had a tense relationship with her mother, and after a fight where her mother regrettably said "Sometimes I wish I wasn't your mother!", Dora was spirited away to Fairyland, kicking off our plot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our heroes were already set to meet Dora's mother, Countess Maelys Raine, because of a rumor that she might hold one of the crown jewels. Unfortunately, she told them that said jewel was in the necklace Dora wore, and thus was trapped in Fairyland with Dora. Our heroes volunteered to rescue the girl, leaving the two crown jewels they had with Maelys in case they didn't come back.
Tumblr media
Dora's kidnapped turned out to be another countess, albeit of the Seelie court rather than Engelsex. Countess Vespidi claimed she had a right to take custody of Dora, but after a brief discussion (while guarded by her army, of course) agreed to allow the heroes to try and convince the girl to return with them if they first proved their worth by overcoming the obstacles she'd lay in their path on the way to her palace. So our heroes went on a jaunt through Fairyland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Along the way they had encounters with various soldiers in Vespidi's court - troops of hobgoblins, goblins, pixies, and orks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A wrinkle presented itself when they met one of Vespidi's chief enforcers, Big Bubba Bugbear, who was very talkative during their fight - and, in particular, was vocal about wanting to keep Dora safe and happy because, according to him, she'd spent so much time crying recently. Bubba had been watching over Dora on Vespidi's orders for a while, you see, and he clearly thought that the fairy Countess had Dora's best interests at heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There were some unrelated monster encounters on the way, too. The Deofolskein had nothing to do with Countess Vespidi's plot, it was just very insistent (but polite!) about asking the PC's to let it eat their eyeballs. They're its favorite dish, you see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our heroes also met Four Elemental Spirits - a salamandral, a gnome, a sylph, and an undine - who gave them their first sidequest: seeking out the Four Elemental Masters in the mortal world, who would test our heroes' knowledge of the four elements of magic and present them with great boons should they prove worthy. These four just really love teaching people about magic, you see!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At last our heroes got to the court of Countess Vespidi, where they faced on final fight against three powerful enemies: a Bandersnatch, a Jubjub Bird, and a Jabberwock. Defeating the three champions of the fairy noblewoman, they were finally allowed an audience with Dora, where they learned some very important facts.
First, Countess Vespidi wasn't just any fairy, but specifically Dora's Fairy Guard-mother, and a close friend of Dora's father and her birth mother.
Second, Maelys wasn't Dora's birth mother, but rather her stepmother. And you know how stepmothers act in most fairy tales, don't you?
Third, and most horrible, Dora didn't have a crown jewel in her necklace.
Our heroes, backed by Countess Vespidi and her forces, returned to the mortal world to demand answers, only to find that Maelys had already left with the crown jewels in tow.
Tumblr media
The campaign's main villain had duped them very, very well.

Weaktober 2024 (10): Dungeon
hi everyone! sorry i haven't been writing, i was busy with midterms then passed out during my week break. gonna get back into the writing groove today with... RPG AU!
-----
The party looked up in terror at the gargantuan beast, huffing sapphire flames through its nostrils. The Ivory Dragon glared threateningly at the band of adventurers, flashing its fangs in a growl.
"Oh shit..." Teddy muttered, clutching his daggers.
"Everyone, run!" Ben yelled, turning to flee from the dragon. Eugene, Gray and Rowan ducked behind a boulder. Gerard, Alex and Teddy squeezed into cracks in the wall. This left Ben, who was running for his life, with no more hiding spots.
Gritting his teeth, Ben turned back towards the dragon and braced himself behind his shield. He hoped to whatever deity watching that it would shield him from the blast of flame. This wasn't what he had in mind when he took on this quest. "It would be easy, they said. Just go in, grab a necklace, and get out they said,"
It was another bustling day in the Twisted Root guild hall. Parties of mercenaries and adventurers alike were gathered in groups, socializing, resting or gearing up for the next mission. Ben sat at a bench with the rest of his teammates, reading over a mission brief. He was the leader of their party, a brave knight in shining armor! Well, more like second hand armor from his uncle.
Beside him was Alex, a monk trained in barehanded combat and Ben's oldest friend. Leaning back into his chair and whistling a tune was Gerard, bard and fighter. He could strum a tune on his lute just as well as he could kick a guy in the jaw.
Next was Gray, peering at the brief over his shoulder. He graduated top of his class at his sorcerer academy, and was a magic genius. No spell was too complex for him.
Chatting with each other over drinks were Rowan and Teddy, archer and rogue. Rowan's best strength lay not just with his bow but with his gift of the gab, and Teddy was a former foe turned friend.
Finally, walking back from the bathroom, was Eugene; cleric and former classmate of Gray. They went to the same academy, where Eugene decided to become a healer instead of a magister.
"Alright everyone," Ben announced, getting up from his seat and slamming his palms to the table. "Here's what we're gonna do,
"Our mission is to enter the dungeon and descend to the 7th level to retrieve a sacred amulet from the Ivory Dragon's hoard. Right now, it's hibernation season so this job should be easy enough."
"Question," Teddy raised a hand. "What's the reward?"
"Ha ha, thought you might ask. Well, once we return the amulet to this Duke guy, we're gonna get a hundred thousand gold!" Ben laughed.
"Aw sweet!" Rowan grinned, pumping his fist in the air.
"Well then what are we sitting around for? Let's go already." Gerard said, strapping his lute to his back.
And with that, the party descended into the depths of the dungeon, hungry for adventure and a sweet sweet reward.
--------
The journey down to the 7th floor did not pass without difficulty. The first 3 floors were simple enough, but things started heating up once they hit the 4th floor. Literally.
"Yeowch!" Rowan yelped as a stray flame splattered on the back of his hand.
"Careful Rowan," Eugene said. "Here, I'll heal you." He held a palm over the burn and murmured an incantation, green light radiating above it. The burn healed quickly, leaving fresh unbroken skin. Rowan breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thanks man, that was my shooting hand."
"Stay close everyone, don't go falling into the fire pits." Alex said.
The 4th floor, aka the Inferno Floor. It was home to pits of fire and ash, spouts of flame threatening to melt the sturdiest of armor. You couldn't go down here without a competent healer by your side.
*crunch* Ben looked down at his foot, he'd stepped on something. "Huh, an eggshell?"
"Let me take a look," Gray said, heading to the front of the party. "Hm, this looks like a reptile egg. The leathery shell hardened and burnt to a crisp. What's it doing up here"
"You're right, we don't encounter lizard monsters until the 6th floor," Teddy remarked. He didn't look like it, but he was knowledgeable about animals and monsters alike.
"H-hey, look in front," Eugene stammered. "There's something wrong."
Everyone cast their eyes before them and gasped in shock. They were the remains of a large egg, with a burnt mound in the middle. They were down here to kill monsters, but every creature deserved a chance at life. "Poor thing," Eugene said, and prayed over the mound. It glowed, and disappeared into golden sparks.
"Let's keep moving." Ben said. Everyone nodded in agreement and ventured onwards, to the 7th floor.
------
After a few hours of adventuring, the party finally made it to the midpoint of floor 6, the fungus floor. They settled in a clearing filled with bioluminescent mushrooms glowing an array of colors. Everyone sat in a circle to rest their legs and have lunch to regain their energy.
"My uncle always said, you gotta have a balanced diet and a good rest to be ready for what comes ahead!" Ben declared, chowing down into a loaf of sourdough bread.
"Didn't your uncle also survive by eating monsters?" Gerard remarked.
"Yep! Which I think is super cool. You guys ever tried sauteed mandrake?"
"Um, I think I'll pass." Gerard said.
Suddenly, the group heard a rustling coming from behind them. They readied their weapons and waited in silence. More rustling, and hushed voices.
"Stop pushing me, I'm gonna drop it!" Someone hissed in hushed tones.
"Then go faster or Master will kick our asses!"
"I'm just being careful, after SOMEONE dropped the last egg."
"I said I was sorry-"
"Hey," Ben said, "We can hear you. Show yourselves." He drew his sword. Alex and Gerard got into fighting stances. Teddy readied his daggers. Rowan pulled back his bowstring. Gray's staff began to glow. Eugene braced himself.
From among the mushrooms emerged a pair of goblins. One held an egg 3/4 his size in his arms, he looked to be struggling. The other was larger in size and wore a dented helmet.
"Whataya want huh? Can't you see we're busy here?" The smaller one snapped, tossing floppy pink bangs out of his face. Gray's eyes widened with recognition upon seeing the egg, but he kept silent for now.
"What's that you got there?" Ben asked, gesturing at the egg.
"Nunya business!" The pink-haired goblin said.
"Yeah! It's our dragon egg and we're not giving it to you!" The bigger one said, which earned him a kick in the shins. "Ow!"
"Oh now you've done it! Just shut up now!"
"Dragon egg eh? Wonder what you're gonna do with that?" Teddy smirked, twirling his knives. "Sell it? Bet that would fetch a pretty penny." He crept up behind them.
"Why you!" The big goblin attempted to tackle Teddy, but the blonde rogue dodged nimbly to the side, stuck out a leg, and tripped him. "Oof!"
"Helmet! Ugh, whatever. I'm leav- WOAH!"
In a few seconds, both goblins were knocked out and disarmed. Teddy held the egg in his hands. "Hey, this look familiar to you guys?"
"Yes, actually. It seems to be the same type of egg we found earlier. If my assumptions are correct, it looks to be the egg of an Ivory Dragon." Gray said.
Everyone's eyes widened in shock.
"No way..." Eugene said. "We gotta keep that egg safe then!"
The party agreed, and put the egg in Eugene's backpack for safe keeping.
Well rested and with new loot, the party entered the lair of the dragon...
------
...which brought them to this point. The party, upon entering the Ivory Dragon's cave, were met not with a slumbering dragon but with a rampaging one. And the moment it set their sights on the adventurers, it took a few deep sniffs and charged right at them.
"Hrrrgh!" Ben grunted as his shield deflected the dragon's flames. This shield was an heirloom passed down generations of his family. It was used by his uncle as a wok for a time, but now came to him, an unbreakable mithril shield! Finally, the dragon let up on its flames and reared back, coughing. It seemed to have overexerted himself.
"Guys, group up!" The party gathered behind the large boulder while the dragon was recovering after the blast. "Quick, we need a plan," Ben said.
"I have an idea," Gray smiled.
Ben and Alex rushed out from behind the boulder. "Over here you overgrown gecko!" Alex yelled, sticking his tongue out. The dragon roared in fury and began to chase them. Ben and Alex split into different directions and ran circles around the lizard, confusing it. Whirling around rapidly, the dragon soon became dizzy, standing dazed and confused.
"Now!" Ben said, raising his shield. Alex leapt on top of it, and Ben launched him up and above the dragon's head with a mighty heave.
"Yah!" Alex yelled, dived and punched hard right between the dragon's eyes before leaping off and standing beside Ben. Now temporarily blinded, the dragon stomped its feet and thrashed its head around, tail swiping the hoard around it and scattering jewels everywhere.
From the shadows, Teddy darted forth and slashed at the beast's ankle joints, eliciting screeches of pain. Perched on a tall stone growth, Rowan fired enchanted arrows into the back of the dragon's knee which pierced it deeply, bringing the dragon to the ground and staining its white scales red. Its wings twitched in frustration, but thankfully couldn't spread because of the cramped den.
"Roaaaarrrr!" Smoke began to waft from the dragon's nostrils. The dragon opened its jaws wide, charging up a blast of flame. Just then, a fast paced melody sounded from the right as Gerard plucked at the strings of his lute. Everyone felt invigorated, like they could run like the wind.
"Thanks Gerard!" Ben called as he, Alex and Teddy ran like lighting away from the flames and the swipes of front claws. However, they were so focused on the front that none of them saw the dragon's tail heading straight for them from behind!
The tail swept towards the three like a snow-white whip but struck a glowing green magical barrier with a "WHAM"! Eugene held out his scepter, chanting an incantation for a barrier spell. He flashed them a smile.
"...with steel and shadow, metal and magic, come forth and entangle, those ties that bind! Entrap mine enemy, Dominus Catenis!" Gray shouted from before the dragon, dispelling his invisibility ward and completing his incantation. With a wave of his staff, a glowing fuschia magic circle manifested before the dragon. Glowing chains erupted from the circle and wound themselves around the Ivory Dragon, pinning it to the ground and clamping its jaws shut. Finally, the dragon was defeated. It was time to land the killing blow.
Ben approached the dragon, and raised his sword. The dragon whimpered and closed its eyes, a tear rolling down its cheek. Ben's lips quivered, then tightened. His grip tightened around the hilt of his sword and-
"Wait!"
Everyone turned to look at Teddy.
"Why? What's wrong?" Gray asked.
"Y-you can't kill her," Teddy said. "She never wanted to kill us in the first place."
"How do you know?" Rowan asked, scratching his head.
"Because, she kept saying stuff about her babies. So, I thought- like- we can't kill her so-"
"YOU CAN TALK TO ANIMALS???" Rowan exclaimed, pointing at Teddy.
"Why didn't you tell us this?" Gray asked.
"Cuz it's embarrassing! Who's gonna take me seriously if I go around talking to animals like some sorta magic princess?"
"Guys calm down! And look over there, at the dragon's nest!" Eugene exclaimed, drawing their attention to the dragon's hoard. Nestled in a pile of gold coins and sparkling trinkets was a nest lined with pelts, cloth, dried leaves and rocks- and it was empty. "It's not hibernation season, it's brooding season! Which means that this dragon is a mother trying to protect her babies," He looked up at the dragon, who peered down at him curiously, as if understanding his intent. Eugene set down his backpack and removed the egg, which was half his size. Gently, he set it down before the dragon and backed away. He looked at Gray, who smiled and released the enchantment.
The chains faded away and the dragon rumbled, nudging the egg towards herself. She cast a meaningful look at Teddy and, holding her egg in one claw, climbed back into her nest and settled down.
"She says thank you, and that we can take one treasure as thanks." Teddy said.
"Well that makes things easier," Ben said with a smile. "Excuse me, Mrs Dragon, do you happen to have an amulet that looks like this?" He showed the poster to the dragon, who nodded and tossed a trinket to him. The amulet! "Thank you ma'am, and sorry for um, attacking you and everything," Ben said sheepishly.
------
After that, the party returned to the Duke and gave him the amulet much to his delight. Everyone went home with the satisfaction of a job well done and much fuller bank accounts.
"So Teddy," Rowan began, "how'd you learn to talk to animals?"
"I- well..."
"C'mon man spit it out. We're buddies right?"
"Hmph fine. I'm from a family of druids. I learnt to talk to animals since I was a kid." Teddy said, a blush creeping up his neck.
"Didn't take you for a softy either," teased Alex.
"HEY!"
"Heheh, Princess Teddy!" Eugene giggled.
"Not you too!"
