Closed starter for @royal-descent - Aster & Leopold
The overcast day cast a dull, grey light over the fog-shrouded landscape as the vampire moved silently through the shadows. His senses were finely attuned to his surroundings, detecting every distant sound muffled by the thick fog. It was then that he spotted the lone figure of a young man all by himself. With silent steps, gangs glinting as he stayed within the shadowy veils of the mist, he walked up to the other and as he was only an arm's length away, he whispered in a voice barely louder than a breath: "You should not be out here alone." And when he realised he had startled the other regardless, he raised his voice and added: "It is not safe out here."
The vampire stepped forward, burst knuckles nudging aside the thick leather of his coat to reveal his revolver strapped to his belt, the silver bullets catching what little light filtered through the clouds. "There are monsters out here beyond the fog," he said, his voice low and gravelly, "and I am here to hunt them. My name is Leopold."

Friends?
If you become my son's friend, and watch over him, I will pay you handsomely. You will not have to live in this hovel any longer.
That was what the man had said as he purchased the shit house that Peter had called a home. It was infested with bugs. Rats. Horrible people. But it had been home.
Now he lived in the same building...albeit a lesser apartment, as the young man named Duke. Peter stood in the other's Penthouse now, and took a deep breath.
"Your father is paying me to be your friend. And really I'm happy to be anyone's friend. I wouldn't be...accepting money for it if...if I had better circumstances. But I have no family, and college is expensive."
Peter worried his bottom lip between his teeth.
"I want to be friends. Real friends. So can you...like...ignore the fact that your dad is paying me?"

Merlin groaned as Val came for a second time while he was inside him. Val's walls pulsed around his cock, squeezing.
"Soon."
He nipped at Val's neck.
"We're not done."
His hand moved through the mess that Val had made, as he brought it to his lips and licked it up. Sweet. Filled with magic. Merlin growled gently, sexually.
"Fuck baby. You taste so good."
Valentin couldn't help himself he was putty in the other's hands he wasn't able to think straight his thoughts fuzzy with pleasure and desire for Merlin. He loved the feeling of Merlin's real mouth on his neck as much as he did the magic on his chest.
"F-fuck. I-I'm gonna cum again." he whined as he did his cock twitching, another spray of his seed onto the bed and his stomach. HIs balls tight as he was pleasured. "M-Merlin. I want you to cum in me too."

Caim was used to waking up into late hours.
Nightmares haunted him with the same frequency with which air entered in his lungs or his heart beat. They were all a mess of incoherency, most were sensations of terror and confusion and liquid dense colours of pitch black or sickly fluorescent yellow flowing down his vision. Tonight, however, the scenario had forms and smells, there were no sound but the divine quietness of Nature, no conspiratorial whispers in the corner of his mind that could take out his peace. And then a harsh light came directly into his eyes and he saw himself closing them. And then with his eyes still closed, the librarian noticed : it wasn’t burning or hurting him. It was almost like a glow…
Therefore round blue eyes opened cautiously and curious. He gazed his arm where a streak of light relapsed. The glow hit his skin in an oddly cold manner, like the ray of moonlight. It wasn’t warm nor cold and then his wide puppy gaze moved slowly up and ahead. Caim couldn’t exactly see what emitted such light, or if the source of it was an object of an animal. It was too intense. Caim looked up and to the Midday Sky and realized the beams of the Sun when hitting this object-creature- reflected it’s light in his own direction, as if refracted by a mirror. And then the thing moved in his direction and Caim startled in his place. When the thing moved and the light flickered once more, a blue glow sparkled out of silver, bathing Caim’s face and arm with stripes of light and glowing back in the bottom of his wide, mesmerized eyes.
And then it fled away. Too quickly. Caim was left thunderstruck and lips agape staring at a crooked trunk of a burnt tree whose branches hung distorted to the left. Caim blinked quickly a multitude of times and having lost a few seconds to the impact of such creature he started to run further into the entrails of what it seemed a grove, to the right, to where he thought the creature entered-
Caim jumped into a sat position in his bed, streaks of sweat ran down his temples and his breathe was ragged. The peaceful sound of birds and the sunshine passing through his window, hitting the wooden rustic ground, testified that it was already daytime. And his mind was disquiet and turbulent. For some reason he had to find this place, this creature, the light, that blue silvery light it emitted, was so… pretty!
Caim was used to waking up into late hours. Now, waking up to dreams, that was new.
And then he remembered! The distorted tree!!! He knew where it was, was an old thing in the woods twenty minutes from the library where in past time witches where burnt, for what old Jenny had told him. The librarian jumped out of the bed, brushed his teeth, took a quick shower to get the sweat out of his body and not bothering to eat anything or open the library to clients he ran to the woods in the limits of Santa Carla.
After some stumbles and a couple situations of disorientation he found the old trunk. A smile opened in his lips! He found it! He beamed with the small victory.
… and now what?… What should he…do…?
He stood in the middle of the woods, in the silence of morning, without a clue of the next step he should take. And then he remembered, in the dream the creature went to the right! So he started, without a second thought, to run to the right and-
Suddenly Caim felt a strong, nauseating feeling and his head spin for a few seconds, making him halt in his trail, trying to focus on the ground under his feet.
A few seconds passed while he waited the vertigo pass and when he moved his eyes up… the crooked tree was ahead of him…?
Caim looked back, and behind him the woods were the same… that is… besides the monumental castle raising above the clouds amidst it…Perhaps a few buildings, the roller coaster of the city’s amusement park on the shore, but in Santa Carla there were no castles!
Caim didn’t had much time to freak out. In the sky up a blur passed through his vision quickly. It shone against the Sun in blue and silvery sparkles. Caim hadn’t thought further, he ran, following the direction of the creature and further and further into the, now, forest.

Their victory was swift and clean. Minimal casualties on their side, with little damage to the ship's hull aside for some cannonball cracks to be patched up. Amos, covered in sweat, gunpowder and – well, blood, laughed like a madman as the adrenaline of battle coursed through him still.
The pirates didn't know that the Belegnon ship was transporting, but judging by how they fought, it had to be valuable: their navy didn't surrender until it was over. One by one, the remaining enemy survivors were pulled from the water and made to kneel side by side on the deck as part of the crew hastily looted their ship before it sank. He and his buddies messed with them, spitting in their faces, pushing them to the ground and laughing as they stole their belongings.
Amos already had his burly hand wrapped around a gold necklace when he glanced at it's owner, smile quickly fading. He recognized the kneeling boy in front of him, and it was only a matter of time before the others did too. Looking around, his smile gave way to a more somber, intimidating expression."This one's mine." he shouted at the others. "Get up." Pulling the boy up by the gold chain, his large frame towered over him, the pirate stepped closer to Gareth, so close that he would surely be able to smell the alcohol on his breath and sweat that coated his bulging muscles.
"You're mine now, little prince. None of these men will lay a finger on you." With that, he smiled, though the look in his eyes remained just as sinister while he grabbed Gareth by the neck, guiding him downstairs and into his quarters.

"ah, a little prince," leon cooed, glancing down at the boy, this wasn't the first prince he had deflowered, but those princes hadn't been anywhere near as handsome as this one. maybe leon would keep this one around. "wow, unbelievably handsome and selfless? not typically traits of the royals that i have known."
edges of his lips curve back up into a smirk, feeling the prince's hands exploring his body. "yeah? how about you see the whole package before we decide, little prince?" he asked, with a flick of his fingers, his own shirt was being burst open and dropping to the ground, revealing his well defined and slightly hairy body to the other.
Duke blushed a bit as he stared back at Leon, drinking in his handsome face. How was a being so powerful still so handsome? Duke enjoyed the deepened kiss. "I'm a prince. I am being kept pure for marriage but this is...more important." he said softly as he reveled in the way Leon touched him.
Duke's hands moved down over the other's body, feeling his abs and up over his chest, so thick and powerful. He gave a soft little squeeze to those powerful pecs. "You are...quite a specimen. More than worthy of a prince's virginity."

@royal-descent liked for a starter from Arthur:
It was a strange sensation. Awoken from a deep sleep, it seemed to take forever for Arthur to regain his wits. He had been hidden deep within a cave on the isle of Avalon, away from the outside world and only reachable through the mist.
Light blue eyes slowly fluttered open and he took in his unfamiliar surroundings. Testing his hands, he found he could move them and pushed himself up into a seated postion. A sword clanked to the floor at this movement and he looked to the side, to find another man staring at him from across the room.
"Who are you?" He croaked, his throat scratchy from disuse. "What is this place?"

OK, so I'm on IMDB right now, and Whip Hubley, who played Hollywood in the first "Top Gun", played Hilary Duff's dad in "A Cinderella Story".
I used to be obsessed with "A Cinderella Story", so I can't believe I never knew that! :P

This movie!!!!! I watched it so many times when I was younger!!! :D
As soon as I saw your ask, I had to go check it up. My memory was failing me. It's really been a while since I last saw 'A Cinderella Story', but I'm not sure I'd have recognised right away tbh.
Now that I see the pic, yeah I see good ol' Hollywood, but yeah.... I only know the actor from Top Gun. :D
(Thanks for making want to watch the movie again... xD)

Tears of the Kingdom is a real master class in game design
Just one for instance: the Zonai capsule dispensers are literal gacha machines (well, that bit of visual design language isn't as strong outside of Japan). This means that in the process of getting the specific device I want (everybody's hungry for steering sticks right?) I inevitably got a bunch of stuff I wouldn't've looked at twice if I were just buying them. The extra chaff means I have a lot of stuff just to play around and experiment with, leading me to engage more deeply with the game.
#legend of zelda#tears of the kingdom#original#it's also a way more 'japanese' game than other entries in the series I think#of course the sheikah have been there since ocarina with their ninja-retainer-family vibe#but also literal gacha machine dispensers; magatama as core plot element; divine descent in the royal family

I've been researching my family tree for the last couple of years. I recently found out I'm a descendant of the Plantagenet Dynasty and the House of Tudor which means I'm also a distant relative of Queen Elizabeth II. I know monarchs 'rule' similar to the president in the USA and I've noticed they all seem to have at least one thing in common. They hoard gold, jewels, money, etc and live a lavish life. They live like this while others barely survive or live at poverty level or below. I don't understand why they do this. I don't especially care for greed and I don't like to see people having to go without their needs being met. I've experienced some difficult times in life and that's made me grateful for the little things. I know if a someone was fortunate enough to have an extensive amount of money you couldn't just up and take care of the whole world but you don't have to have people who live at or below poverty level either. All people have basic needs and I don't think those needs should be so difficult for someone to obtain. Idk if there's a certain requirement/standard that one has to follow for being a monarch or not but if there's not then there are definitely some changes that need to occur.
Maybe I would or maybe I wouldn't make a good monarch because I'd do things differently. The one thing I do know is that no one would be hungry and the poverty level would decrease when compared to what it is today.
“The British royal family is a joke. A sad joke. Elizabeth II & Philip are the last generation to be or represent anything worth paying for. I thought Charles had potential but now he just seems lost, maybe he’s given up, who knows. That family as royalty are dead to many. Kate and William? Harry and Meghan? This is the future? Please!” - Submitted by Anonymous

"It is difficult to argue that [Edward IV] was wrong in what he did. His advancement of [Richard of Gloucester] can be criticized only by those who believe that the only good nobleman is an impotent nobleman. Medieval kings did not think in these terms. Gloucester’s power was valuable because it ensured royal control of a significant and troublesome part of the country. Nor can Edward be blamed for not foreseeing the ends to which Gloucester might put his power. The duke had been a loyal upholder of the house of York, a central figure in Edward’s polity*; there was no obvious reason why he should not occupy the same role under Edward V. In this respect, precedent was on Edward’s side. Previous minorities had seen squabbles over the distribution of power, but no young king had ever been deposed. Even royal uncles traditionally drew a line at that, something which explains why Gloucester’s actions seemed so shocking to contemporaries and, perhaps, the reason why he got away with it so easily in the short term.
In the immediate sense, Gloucester must take final responsibility for what happened in 1483. However one explains the motives behind his actions, things happened because he chose that they should: there is nothing in the previous reign which compelled him to act as he did."
-Rosemary Horrox, Richard III: A Study of Service
*Richard was also, yk, Edward's own brother who had been entirely loyal to him during his life. The problem wasn’t that Edward trusted Richard (why wouldn't he?), the problem is that Richard broke that trust in a horrible and unprecedented way to usurp a 12-year-old. Please understand the difference.
#wars of the roses#edward iv#richard iii#edward v#my post#The arguments of Ross and Pollard (et al) are so profoundly unserious and ahistorical#casting an unforeseeable turn of events as a predictable ('structural') one as David Horspool rightly puts it#Ross specifically is entirely dependent on his own horrible view of Elizabeth Woodville and her family as the basis of his analysis#but anyway. as Horrox points out later in the book:#''although earlier events [during Edward's reign] cannot be said to have caused the crisis they did have some bearing in how it developed'#namely Edward's legacy of forfeitures in the 1460s; manipulation of property descents; and fluctuating royal favour.#the most prominent and politically important of all of these were the manipulation of the Mowbray and Howard family fortunes#This is often used to enhance the unserious and ahistorical arguments of historians like Ross and Pollard that Edward doomed his son#But as Horrox points out: Edward's reign did not exist in a vacuum and needs to be analyzed by actual historical context.#from a broader perspective his actions were not especially transgressive as far as English kings were concerned#NO MONARCH (Edward III; Henry VII; etc) died with every single one of their nobles 100% content and supportive#they weren't living in Disney movies and there's no point holding Edward IV to fairytale standards that did not exist.#More importantly Horrox points out that Edward's actions (eg: the Mowbray and Howard cases) need to be put into actual perspective#They were not perceived as problems and did not cause problems during his own reign.#They did not cause problems after he died before Edward V arrived in London.#They only became problems after Richard decided to seize power and deliberately exploited them as bribes for political support#Had Richard decided to support his nephew or work with the Woodvilles - Edward's actions (@ the Mowbrays and Howards) would be irrelevant#(It's also worth pointing out that we don't know WHEN Richard decided to usurp. It if it was a more gradual desire then his depowering#of the Woodvilles by exploiting Mowbray & Howard discontent would not have not affected *Edward V's* ascension or prospects)#ie: the problem isn't that discontent existed with a few specific nobles (that was normal) the problem was how Richard took advantage of it#In theory this sort of thing would have been a potential threat for ANY heir to the throne whether they were a minor or an adult#In itself it's not really unique to Edward and it's silly when historians criticize him and him alone for it. It was more or less standard.#(if anything the fact that he was able to do them so successfully is an indication of his authority)#We come back to Horspool's point: 'Without one overriding factor' - Richard's initiative and actions - 'none of this could have happened.'#which is where this analysis of Horrox's comes in :)

@fstbmp inquired: I once more toss aside my cape. Redacted, I will never get tired of saying how spectacular your Miranda is; quite literally peak fiction in my eyes. You do the character so much justice and, as I always say, I genuinely get baffled seeing the canon version after yours has so enraptured me that it's altered my brain chemistry. Your Miranda is The Miranda to me and that's never going to be changed. All of this isn't even touching the other Vanderbilt from the fleeting moments they appear and how well you write them in contrast and comparison to Miranda herself. You really can tell they all came from the same environment and branched off into entirely separate entities despite filling the same general terrifying merfolk royal niche. There's so much care put into your character(s) that it blows me away without fail anytime I see it. An absolute treat! How's my portrayal? - Accepting
(( I like how the very first thing I took note of was my evolutionary terms rubbing off on you. My grand plan is working, at this rate soon I'll have people aware of at least three different convergent body types instead of solely the crab-shape, and then I will take over the world.
But anyhow.
GETS you.
Mirth, the fact that I can always count on you to show up whenever one of these memes goes around is more than enough proof of how god damned sweet you are. Hell, your talents being one thing, you're just very sincerely nice to have around in the RPC. You're a beacon of support to everyone around you and just an inspiration to everyone that you write with, and it says a lot about how well you manage to bring people together at all stages of writing.
It's just genuinely awe-inspiring how well you manage to juggle all of the muses you have and nonetheless manage to write each one with the care and devotion and understanding that they all need. The way that you manage to weave their lore together in a way that feels natural on top of that, the unique relationships each of them have — it's a thing of wonder, how you manage to do it all. The way that you bring your own personal touch to each of them to bring them to life is truly unique to you and your writing style and something that you won't manage to find elsewhere.
I really do think your main strength and your best strength is in your characters themselves, into making them not only interesting, but their own living, breathing people with their own lives and needs. To see into them and understand them and to be able to paint a picture with them unlike anything else.
I just think you're Neat. :>
#Most secret royal advisor || OOC#Dreaded rumors || Asks#fstbmp#(( what you dont see in this but is happening in the background#(( is me resisting the urge to interrupt this ask to tell people to go listen to the common descent podcast#(( just because i just finished their newest episode on plant defenses and it was so NEAT#(( fun to see how plants try to kill us all the time!!!!#(( plants hate so much. its fantastic. fantastic planet were on.

"A medical technology company in Australia is aiming for a world-first: it wants to launch a blood test for endometriosis (sometimes called 'endo' for short) within the first half of this year [2025].
In a recent peer-reviewed trial, its novel test proved 99.7 percent accurate at distinguishing severe cases of endometriosis from patients without the disease but with similar symptoms.
Even in the early stages of the disease, when blood markers may be harder to pick out, the test's accuracy remained over 85 percent.
The company behind the patent, Proteomics International, says it is currently adapting the method "for use in a clinical environment," with a target launch date in Australia for the second quarter of this year [2025].
The test is called PromarkerEndo.
"This advancement marks a significant step toward non-invasive, personalized care for a condition that has long been underserved by current medical approaches," managing director of Proteomics International Richard Lipscombe said in a press release from December 30.
Endometriosis is a common inflammatory disease that occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other parts of the body, forming lesions. The disease can be very painful, and yet the average patient often suffers debilitating symptoms for up to seven years before they are properly diagnosed.
While there are numerous reasons for such a long delay, symptoms of endometriosis are often highly variable, unpredictable, difficult to measure or describe, and dismissed or overlooked by doctors.
Today, the only definitive way to diagnose endometriosis is via keyhole surgery called a laparoscopy, which is expensive, invasive, and carries risks.
Proteomics International is hoping to change that.
In collaboration with researchers at the University of Melbourne and the Royal Women's Hospital, the company compared the bloodwork data from 749 participants of mostly European descent.
Some had endometriosis and others had symptoms that were similar to endo but without the lesions. All participants had a laparoscopy to confirm the presence or absence of the disease.
Sifting through the bloodwork, researchers ran several different algorithms to figure out which proteins in the blood were best at predicting endometriosis of varying stages.
Building on previous research, a panel of 10 proteins showed a "clear association" with endometriosis.
For years now, scientists have investigated possible blood biomarkers of endometriosis to see if they could differentiate between those who have endo and those who do not. Similar to cancerous tumors, endo lesions can establish their own blood supply, and if cervical cancer can be diagnosed via a blood test, it seemed possible that endometriosis could be, too...
Proteomics International claims patents for PromarkerEndo are "pending in all major jurisdictions," starting first in Australia.
It remains to be seen if the company's blood test lives up to the hype and is approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). But that's not outside the realm of possibility.
In November of 2023, some researchers predicted that a "reliable non-invasive biomarker for endometriosis is highly likely in the coming years."
Perhaps this is the year."
-via ScienceAlert, January 9, 2025

Note: As someone with endometriosis, let me say that this is a HUGE deal. The condition is incredibly common, incredibly understudied, and incredibly often dismissed. Massive sexism at work here.
I got very lucky and got diagnosed after about 6 months of chronic pain (and extra extra lucky, because my pain went away with medication). But as the article says, the average time to diagnosis is seven years.
Being able to confirm endometriosis diagnoses/rates without invasive surgery will also lead to huge progress in studying/creating treatments for endo.
And fyi: If you have a period that is so painful that you can't stand up, or have to go home from school/work, or vomit, or anything else debilitating (or if any of those things apply if you forget to take pain meds), that is NOT NORMAL, and you should talk to a competent gynecologist asap.

Oberon scoffed at all that friendly fire. Truth be told, he might have really needed just that. The pouring water did feel good, even if a bit too cold. He started to strip under it, his clothes already soaked and on the wet floor. That would have to be dealt later. But as he stood up again, stretching his arms and letting his hard cock pointing forward, almost as if choosing Tybalt as its next victim, Oberon let out a satisfied groan. "Gods, I did need that, dragon."
"Tybalt, I mean." He quickly corrected once he felt the hands on his body, the soap going down his chest and abs. "Are you going to help me wash? Give me a good rub, eh?" Without giving a moment for the dragon to think of an answer, the faery put a hand on the other's ass, pulling him closer. "You better loose the uniform too Tybalt. Or I'll have to get rid of it myself."
"I am aware I am very pretty. My kind are alluring. Powerful. Treasures unto ourselves. Mortals fall over themselves for a single scale. I am shocked you've never pursued one of us before. Depriving yourself from our beauty. Shame." Ty hummed as the downpour became more a gentle summer shower, the water warm like quenching rains from tropical skies.
"Irish Spring. This is lock up, not a hotel." he said with a little laugh as he grabbed a bar of soap, and opened the cell so he could join the king in his shower. Hands reaching out to caress the contours of his muscles. "Tybalt. My name is Tybalt. You can call me that or Ty. Depending on how good you are in bed, call me whatever you want."
