Vacuum gauge in my Mustang

Hey guys,

Just a question out of curiousity.. forgive me if this sounds silly but I'm a plumber by trade and I learn my car stuff from you guys, along with YouTube and simple trial and error.

In my Mustang I have a vacuum gauge. I have the GT, but not the Roushcharged version. Mine is just a N/A 5.0, but as one of my analog gauges tells me my vacuum in "hg" and I know this is just a placeholder for the boost gauge for the ones that don't come supercharged. Under WOT it will reach zero

Essentially my question is, is where/how is this vacuum being measured? Is there a sensor in the intake manifold? I'm just curious because I know forced induction cars create vacuum until the turbo starts creating boost, and I'm just wondering if this is the measurement of how much air the engine itself can actually pull before more starts getting forced in? Or maybe I'm totally off.

Again, this may sound simple but it's been bugging me!! Thanks!!
