something's just occured to me. in origins, wolverine gets shot in the brain with an adamantium bullet. does that mean 1) there is currently a bullet lodged in the middle of wolverine's brain? its just in there forever now? and 2) there's a single perfect hole in the front of wolverine's skull which is just regular bone, because the bullet ripped through the adamantium and then he healed?

logan is just walking around with exactly One Inch of normal bone. and thats it.

okay for the first part. imagining origins! Logan (bc i stand by that origins and the original xmen movies are a diff universe) meets Magneto for the first time and Erik is like ??????? you have a whole ass bullet in your brain.

and the second part. that also means that in D&W everytime Wade sliced at Logan with his adamantuim katanas and like, when through his chest and arms in shit. He was taking away from of the coatings of metal on Logan's bone. dude is swiss cheese now

i like the original 5 options just fine, but i do think know character (neutral/its complicated) could be split into two options, because when im neutral its rarely complicated, and when its complicated my feelings are rarely neutral. doesnt seem like it has any true overlap to me. obviously mine arent the only opinions that matter, but just to throw in my two cents, if asked to describe my perfect poll options it would be:

1. know (positive)

2. know (neutral)

3. know (negative)

4. know (its complicated)

5. dont know, but heard of them

6. never heard of them

Hmm, that's fair. I like that, but I need to keep in mind that there will probably be at least one more permanent addition to the poll options after the trial run, and I don't want too many options, you know?

WWOTY Yule Prompt Fill

His consciousness dips in and out, mouth thick and dry as if stuffed full of cotton. His shoulders ache like they never have in his life. In an attempt to get his bearings he twists his wrists, tries to stand, but all that does is spark agony up and down his useless arms. Dandelion sways on his feet as he fights for understanding.

It comes back to him in fits and starts. Rience. Running. Slipping. Being caught. Struggling. Being hit.

The world spins. He fights back panic. Geralt will surely come save him. Surely.

Soft Serve, my little beloved. She is the only sister of many brothers, though Judah is her oldest. Soft Serve would like to leave. Her body is weightless and naturally it wants to float away. She would be gone, like a little balloon, drifting where ever she may. Eventually, she would disappear, something she longs for. However, Judah doesnt like this and has her bound with a ball and chain to keep her grounded there with her brothers. Maybe its an act of selfishness, or maybe an act of love. Whatever the case, Soft Serve does not feel she should exist. She remains smiling, thinking about a future where she floats away. S/lo (Silo), Wa0x (Wax Face) and Drudge (Judge) are easily summed up by calling them a trio of personas. In order, they represent (emotionally) uninhibited happiness, darkening/burning, charred remains. They are all the same entity, really, cycling forever. Another oc, ???, resets them. I have a little ol blog where I collect imagery representing them :~) *Maybe it would be worth saying that each can 'lean' into the next as they change. Silo can lean to Wax Face, Wax Face can lean to Drudge, Drudge can lean back to Silo. It's a fade between them, if that makes sense.

It could be a great bit of worldbuilding if it's just the done thing that there is at least one vampire per X people in a group. Maybe they function similarly to mayors or nights, advocating for their humans' needs on whatever plane of battle is needed. A new village is starting up and they're decorating a fancy cave and advertising how cozy and shiny it is in hopes of attracting a vampire. Two suburbs have grown into eachother and now their attending vampires are posturing at eachother trying to figure out how they're going to resolve their duties. The local count is a jerk and isn't properly caring for his people. Time to oust him for a while so he can think about his people and his duties and what he can do to earn back their trust. One vampire needs to leave or hibernate for a bit and has one of the neighbouring vamps babysit while he's indisposed. Vampire whose specialty is raising the undead sending his skeletons around collecting trash and distributing surveys. Vampire who can turn into a wolf having a monthly "meet the count" day where he hangs out in the local community center with kids crawling all over him as he answers questions.

you know it really isnt immoral, if you do it right, to raise cows and sheep for meat. so. well. i think there should be a story about, vampires who have a town of humans that they keep well-maintained, so long as the humans donate their blood once a month, like vampire blood farm stuff

but instead of antagonistic everyone's like. no he's a nice man you leave the count alone. he keeps us safe and cared for and he just needs a lil snack now and then, it dont hurt anyone. like a cow that loves the farmer and the farmer that loves the cow, even with both knowing one will end up on the other's table. because its like. its like. cows just have such pretty eyes, you know? they love you so much. i think it should be like that

stealing these tags off @roughentumble’s post to talk about something totally unrelated. this reminded me of my friend who works on anglerfishes and a couple of papers he told me about once regarding the immunological factors in anglerfishes that let male anglers face-fuse to females without her immune system, like, melting him. some anglers literally have NO immune system whatsoever which is WILD but also sort of makes sense in an environment where you mostly just. don’t encounter other living creatures. communicable disease who? there’s nobody down here to communicablize! but there’s a spectrum of immune system adaptation here, not all of them ditched the whole thing. i need to go find the papers again bc I don’t remember the details.

point being. i have immunological questions here. what ARE the immunological factors for a guy with super healing even like. probably you don’t really need a super immune response. if you have a normal guy’s immune response and can also do super healing of viral and bacterial damage that’s already better than the normal guy. plus if you do have a super immune response you’re vulnerable to Super Autoimmune Diseases too, and that sounds wretched. so you prob just want a normal immune system? maybe? depending on what kinds of super viruses the villains are putting out these days? though super immune systems also have concerning implications for an arms race, like how anything that makes the jump from bats to humans specifically is bad fucking news because their basal body temp is pretty close to the temp we raise our own bodies to in order to kill stuff.

anyways. toxic enmeshment step 2: you fused with a second guy with super healing and have created the world’s most fucked-up autoimmune situation in the world. fighting your own body AND his body even if you detach yourselves again. or not! maybe you can do the anglerfish thing, whatever the anglerfish thing is, I’m on gscholar right now looking

currently reading: I juuuuust started The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin. I have wanted to read it for a long time so I am stoked to finally do it! I think uklg is one of the smartest writers I've ever had the pleasure to read but have mostly read Earthsea and her short stories. so I'm excited to read her long form science fiction.

currently watching: I've been watching Dimension 20 finally and finished the first Fantasy High season a week or so ago. For more traditional TV shows I watched the first half of Bodies on Netflix with my sibling and am interested to see where the second half goes. It's certainly an interesting and twisty premise with a lot of storytelling stuff I like-- parallel stories and narrators, time travel. Etc

currently obsessed with: I'm always obsessed with ffxiv 😬 other than that I've been playing some Sunless Skies and have been enjoying that. The vibes are excellent even if I crash my train engine into giant leafs and encounter a weird eldritch fabric(?) creature from the mushroom dimension which chases me and screams, killing me instantly

In the books, they are lifelong best friends and travel companions, and when Jaskier recounts their meeting, he notes that Geralt immediately latched onto him and they were fast friends. You even get to see their first adventure, and they're already talking and bickering like an old married couple, and bravely offering to sacrifice their lives for the other. Both of them do this!! They've known each other like two days maybe. And despite the fact that they're so different, that they don't necessarily have anything logistical to offer each other, they stay together as best friends and companions through the entire series, a great long adventure of hardship!! Just because they care!! Just because they both looked at each other and said "yes, that one please." Obviously I take it in a romantic sense, but romantic or platonic they're just very sweet.

they fell in love so instantly. charles saved erik's life and I think it was love at first sight for both of them. erik, who struggles extremely in expressing any emotion other than anger, calls charles adorable after less than a day of knowing him. and later thay day when he's about to leave, charles asks him nicely to please stay with him and he just does. they both then immediately became extremely close and road tripped the united states together (some very gay moments on that trip) and then ended up living together afterwards. (they do break up at the end of that movie but they always get back together again after they break up.)
