I often hear/read about how Jack and Elsa can pass off as siblings because they supposedly look alike. I personally don't think they do (or maybe that's the shipper in me talking lol) just because they are both light-haired, blue-eyed, and have a pale complexion. I mean, both their hair and eye colors are different shades anyway, that has to count for something, right?! XD

If you haven't heard of the song before, there are basically two major interpretations to it: it can either be viewed as a platonic or romantic relationship between twins. The overall idea is that, as adolescents, they realize that they're growing and that things are no longer the same. By that, no longer the same physically—as in their once similar facial features, hand sizes, etc. are all different now— and from a social standpoint, where it is no longer acceptable to do some things that were so normal for them as twins, such as sleeping in the same bed together (like I said before, you can view it however you like; be it either as the innocent indignance of close-knit twins who were suddenly made to distance themselves, or a tale of forbidden incestuous love). Most vocaloid songs, including this one, are up to interpretation anyway. I might be slightly off though, it has been quite a while since I've delved into the meanings of vocaloid songs. Whether or not to consider this jelsa piece as platonic or romantic, it's also up to you hehehe.

I have mixed feelings about this artwork. I haven't tried this art style in a while and though I like how it turned out, I'm not satisfied with the hands lol they're the bane of my existence xD. I also kept going back and forth modifying random parts of the artwork, so I decided to finally post it because I will never be done with it at this rate xD.

I always think this song fits Jack Frost pretty well. After all, Jack is similar to Victoria as they have been deserted and tossed out, and they wander around the streets, looking where they are going to find a home. They desperately search for acceptance and love from others. They also have the desire to help others to feel wanted (Victoria towards Grizabella; Jack Frost towards Pitch).

“Follow me home if you dare to I wouldn't know where to lead you”

Jack could be imagining himself speaking to other mythical beings, spirits, children or the audience with this. Although his home is Burgess, he remains aimless and lonely because he does not know of his purpose and nobody can see him.

“Should I take chances when no one took chances on me?”

Jack is reluctant to join the Guardians because they never took chances on him. After all, the Guardians have always known about Jack but they never let him into their lives.

“So I watch from the dark, wait for my life to start With no beauty in my memory”

Jack has been alone in the world, aimlessly wondering as he tries to find his purpose. He has lost his memories and the memories as a winter spirit are mainly pain and loneliness.

“All that I wanted was to be wanted Too young to wander London streets, alone and haunted Born into nothing At least you have something, something to cling to Visions of dazzling rooms I'll never get let into And the memories were lost long ago But at least you have beautiful ghosts”

Jack’s utmost desire is to be wanted. He has been wondering the streets (since he travels around the world, he would have been to London) by himself since he has risen from the pond by the Man in the Moon. Plus, he is a very young spirit (300 years old). Moreover, Jack is born into nothing as he states that the only thing that the Man in the Moon ever told him was his name: Jack Frost. He has no family, no friends and nobody can see him. Besides, when Tooth tells Jack that she has his tooth box that contains his memories before he becomes Jack Frost, Jack says that he was no one before he became Jack Frost. Furthermore, Jack envies the Guardians who have believers and each other. The lyrics “Visions of dazzling rooms I’ll never get let into” refers to Jack’s failed attempts to sneak into the North Pole as he never gets past the Yetis (after all, Jack is never invited to the North Pole until he is kidnapped by the Yetis because he’s chosen as a Guardian. The lyrics “memories were lost long ago” could refer to Jack’s memories before he was Jack Frost, or the Guardians’ memories of their previous lives since Tooth says that they were all someone before they were chosen. The lyrics “beautiful ghosts” could refer to the people like family and friends in the Guardians’ past lives, or the children who believe in them as they become part of the Guardians’ memories even though they have grown old and/or passed away.

“Perilous night, their voices calling A flicker of light before the dawning Out here, the wild ones are taming the fear within me”

Jack Frost’s mural depicts him fighting wolves in the forest, which could fit the lyrics “Perilous night, their voices calling”, while “A flicker of light before the dawning” could refer to Sandy’s dreamsand since Jack knows him and likes to play with his dreamsand. “The wild ones” could mean animals or children, but most likely children since Jack loves to bring fun and joy to them even though they can’t see him (hence, it probably tames Jack’s fear within him).

“Scared to call them my friends and be broken again Is this hope just a mystical dream?”

Jack is unwilling to make himself vulnerable to the Guardians except Sandy. After 300 years of isolation, being abandoned, ignored and rejected (do refer to the analysis link above), Jack is reluctant to accept his role as a Guardian. He is afraid to accept the Guardians as his friends as he fears that the Guardians would reject him and he would get hurt once more. Pitch also taunts Jack about that fear, hence, the lyrics “Is this hope just a mystical dream?” reflects Jack’s fear.

“And so maybe my home isn't what I had known What I thought it would be But I feel so alive with these phantoms of night And I know that this life isn't safe, but it's wild and it's free”

These lyrics can be interpreted two ways: One, since Jack lost his memories of his past life, he has no idea about Burgess and his residents, and due to human activity, Burgess is constantly changing, unlike the Guardians’ residences. Although Jack is alone in the world and it is certainly not safe, at least it is a wild and free life for him. Two, Jack never thought that his home would be with the Guardians since Jack didn’t think that he’s Guardian material (“What makes you think I wanna be a Guardian?” and “You are all hard work and deadlines, and I am snowballs and fun times. I’m not a Guardian.”). The life as a Guardian is not safe since you have to protect the children from Pitch and his Nightmares, but it is wild and free since you can have action-packed adventures with the Guardians and you don’t have to be alone anymore.

“All that I wanted was to be wanted I'll never wander London streets, alone and haunted Born into nothing With them, I have something, something to cling to I never knew I'd love this world they've let me into And the memories were lost long ago So I'll dance with these beautiful ghosts And the memories were lost long ago So I'll dance with these beautiful ghosts”

These lyrics fits the ending of Rise of the Guardians. Jack Frost has finally become a Guardian. He is now accepted by the Guardians. He will never wander the streets alone and haunted. With the Guardians, Jack have something to cling to. The lyrics “I never knew I’d love this world they’ve let me into” could refer to Jack finally accepting himself and his life that the Man in the Moon has let him into. Jack has regained his memories, but he probably realizes that his family, especially his sister is gone since it has been 300 years. Even though he has lost his past life and the chance to reach out for it when he first became Jack Frost, Jack now has the Guardians, Jamie and his friends as his first believers - and he’s no longer alone.

Why Frozen doesn't work in the Big Four

I already made an analysis on just why and how the big four work so well so I would suggest reading that first.

I also mentioned that this criteria is what helped me realize just why Frozen never felt like it worked in this crossover. So I'm going to finally go over just why it doesn't.

1) Finding Themselves

All of their movies are about finding oneself, weather it be poetically or literally and that isn't in Frozen. Anna learns to take love one step at a time and Elsa learns to control her powers, that's it. True, they kind of learn who they were meant to be in the sequel but if a character finding themself isn't part of their original story then it's not the core of said character and just won't fit with the dynamic of the big four.

2) The Magic

The big four crossover mainly relies on the rules of magic in rotg. In which the rule states that you have to be connected to the moon (usually a spirit) in order to have magic. This does, infact, apply for Rapunzel because spoiler in Tangled the Series, the magic flower that fell to the earth was caused by an eclipse that also made a moonstone.

Frozen-verse magic does not follow this format because all magic is only in the form of a few elemental spirits. They are believed to be the only spirits and they are the ones who gave Elsa her powers, not the moon.

3) Narration

As I said in the previous analysis, narration is something that can express what type of tale you are telling and themes they hold. Frozen has no narration in the beginning or end of the film. All it has is an intro song that doesn't really do anything but introduce the ice sellers and symbolize the future story. It doesn't explain how anything came into play or how the world works like narration is supposed to do.

4) Seasonal Theme

One may say that this does apply to Frozen but in reality, it doesn't. The movie is based about a winter during the summer, yes. But we are talking about how the season applies to the characters, not their story.

The only traits Elsa has relating to winter is naturally poise and neglectful. That's it. Her personality resigns more of summer, ironically: Diplomatic, practical, neat, talented with hands and speaks quietly.

Anna is supposed to represent summer but she doesn't really hold ANY traits relating to it. Her personality lays more along the lines of spring or autumn: Smiley, friendly, witty, optimistic, energetic, overly talkative, etc (I could keep going but eh).

Therefore the seasonal theme of RotBTD doesn't fit for Elsa or Anna because the season needs to apply to a characters personality, not their story. Anna and Elsa being set on the seasons that aren't them, pulls them out of that dynamic.

5) The Literary Dynamic

A classic friends dynamic, the big four have is the perfect criteria of having a group consisting of the girly girl = Rapunzel, the troublemaker = Jack, the nerd = Hiccup and the tomboy = Merida.

As well as their dynamic in combat as warriors, who they are designed to be as a group of fighters. The leader/strategist = Hiccup, speed fighter = Jack, the healer = Rapunzel and the sniper(bow and arrow) = Merida.

Neither Anna nor Elsa add anything to this ratio. Anna has the personality of Rapunzel with the witt of Hiccup and Elsa is very bland in character to begin with. She could only, possibly be added as "the depressed one" and as any true fan would know, that's kinda already taken by Jack.

Combat-wise, they still don't add anything. Anna can't do anymore than what Rapunzel or Merida already do plus more. Elsa only has magic to fight with and Jack is already the ice magic user and is more powerful than Elsa to begin with.

(I also made a full analysis on that as well, so I'm not gonna get into it here.)

6) The Friend Dynamic

First, I don't see Merida really getting along with either of them. Elsa is very bland and neat while Merida is flamboyantly tomboy. She'd find Elsa super boring and Elsa would find her gross. And Anna may have a personality similar to Rapunzel but Merida doesn't have anything in common with Anna to help them befriend each other.

Rapunzel and Jack would get along with Anna swell and Hiccup would find her fun to watch. Rapunzel could bring out Elsa's fun side like Anna. Elsa and Jack would have a sibling rivalry between each other, much like what Jack has with Bunny. But I just don't see Hiccup interacting with either of them at all.

The dynamic of the group needs for everyone to become friends in order for it to work but adding Frozen just severs that connection from before and therefore...

It Won't Do

You can't work around it no matter how hard you try. If you like adding Frozen, that's fine. You can add whatever you want. But the Frozen universe just doesn't mix well with the other four so don't go around saying it's perfect.

And I mean, let's be real, Frozen was only ever added to the crossover because of the oversaturation of Jelsa 🙄

And I know you all probably think that I'm thinking too much on it when I don't need to but in reality, you kinda need to think deeply about something in order to understand why it feels they way it does. The feel is the main reason the big four became popular. And Frozen just doesn't feel that way for those reasons.

This ending song from Kingdom Hearts 3 gives me a lot of feels for Jack Frost / Nightlight x Katherine from the Guardians of Childhood book series by William Joyce. I am not well verse of the books because I can’t find the books in my area (I only had ever read the books about the Man in the Moon and the Sandman). I did read up the plots from the wiki even though it’s incomplete. At least I have some grasp about it.

I try to focus primarily on Rise of the Guardians because since book 5 “Jack Frost: The End Becomes the Beginning”, the book universe and the movie universe have become separated. However, I do share fanarts for the Guardians of Childhood.

This song by Utada Hikaru highlights the relationship between Sora and Kairi. They start as friends and by the end of Kingdom Hearts 3, they have seemingly become more than friends as they share a Paopu Fruit, which has this legend: "If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what." In the Guardians of Childhood series, Nightlight (later becomes Jack Frost) and Katherine start out as friends and then they become lovers. Fortunately, their relationship end with a happy ending, unlike Sora and Kairi.

I find this song so wholesome, and just want to share it to the Katlight or Jatherine shippers! I hope you all love this song and my analysis!
