Today is a very special day because today is the eleventh anniversary of Rise of the Guardians!

ROTG is very dear to me because it introduced me to the Guardians of Childhood book series by the wonderful William Joyce and opened the window that lit up the very dark room that was my life at the time and made me want to be a writer.

So, I decided to celebrate with a special moodboard of my main OTP, Katherine Shalazar, and Jack Frost (Jatherine/Snow Goose).

For those who don't know, Katherine Shalazar grows up to be Mother Goose, and Nightlight doesn't die; he grows up to be Jack Frost~

I recently got my hands on William Joyce’s final installment of his Guardians of Childhood books, and I must say, I like Katherine and Jack’s new age-fluctuating powers x)

Katherine meets Nightlight (Redraw of an old artwork from 2021; old version below!)

She’d soared above the tallest trees in Santoff Claussen and passed a flock of startled geese. She soared higher than she had even imagined; below her, Santoff Claussen looked rather small, and the outside world very large and inviting. She trusted the djinni to catch her—after all, North had made it.

Then, floating just a few feet in front of her, was a small cloud, not much bigger than a feather bed. On that cloud, to her complete and utter surprise, crouched . . . a boy. The same boy who had come to their rescue back in the forest! He was looking right at her. Katherine gasped—she had seen him only that one time. In daylight he shimmered even more brilliantly. and . . . and . . . how was it that he could stand on a cloud? She stared, stunned.

They had only a single second together. She smiled at him. He smiled back. She reached out her hand, and he did as well. Their fingertips were just about to touch. Then she began to drop.

Dear diary

It's now been exactly 1.095 days after Jack became Jack. We are now in the year of 1936, and I am sitting here - in Big Root - all alone in my old childhood bunk bed, writing this paragraph. It's New Years Eve, and all of Santoff Claussen is celebrating the new year excitingly; with Jack making it a "snow day," as he likes to call it, for everyone. I wish I could join them. But something just feels so off to me lately, I was not able to tell what it is or where the feeling originated from - until now. Whenever I look at Jack, something just doesn't align anymore. It's like a sting in my heart, so quite the opposite of "butterflies in your stomach." You'd think by now I am used to his new appearance. But no... I -

Just at that moment, Jack came in running and burst the door open, swiftly closing it behind his back. Breathing heavily, in and out, the boy lifted his head, staring at a completely perplexed Katherine. The children had set up a snowball fight, and Jack was obviously, to his own surprise, losing. It was also long past their bedtime already, hence why all the children were awake, still.

The night filled the air with a swift cold breeze, and the stars shimmered in all their glory. But every year at New years Eve, they were allowed to stay up longer than the parents usually permitted. It was a highly priced event for the kids because in that night, they could see the constellations Katherine had told them about in all her stories. For the big wrap-up of the night, Ombric sets up his huge telescope for them to watch the constellations up close, which always causes great excitement amongst the town's children.

However, Katherine closed her book quickly, hiding it behind her back. She didn't want Jack to feel like she was hiding something from him, but Jack knew it was more than obvious that something wasn't alright. He knew his Katherine better than she wanted to admit. As his heavy breaths calmed down, he approached - and sat beside her. Katherine rubbed her arm nervously, trying not to lock eyes with him. She then clutched to the sheets of her bed, trying to ease her tension somehow. When Jack made note of that, he immediately reached for her tensed hands and placed them within his own rather cold hands. Moments later, Katherine could feel her chin being lifted after she'd calmed.

"Katherine. I can sense you're overthinking about something. Mind telling me what it is? You've been very distant toward me lately." His soft-spoken words made the girl ease her expression and the grip she had on his hands. "Take your time. I'm here to listen." She took a deep breath, then nodded. "Look, Jack. I-" Katherine stopped, pulling back her hands. "I don't know... it's just... When I look into your eyes, I see HIM. But you're not him. You're just ... Jack."

Jack tilted his head, raising an eyebrow. He was obviously quite confused and tried to understand her words. "You're speaking in riddles. Who's 'he'?" he questioned. Katherine's face lowered again. She appeared rather troubled and sad because she knew Jack was purposefully wiping his memories of the past and wouldn't stop doing so.

"Nightlight." she finally managed to say - there was just so much agony in that voice of hers when mentioning that name. "You mean the boy you're always talking about to me, right?" Katherine nodded in agreement. "You miss him. I can sense that. From all the stories you told me about him, I think you were really close." Katherine nodded again but turned away when a tired honk was heard from a corner. Kailash had just awakened from all the noise that was going on outside of Big Root. She waddled up to the both of them and huddled beside Katherine. Petting Kailash's head, she continued. "You're talking of Nightlight as if he was a different person. You're him, but you're NOT him. And that's the problem. Nightlight is gone, and he'll never return."

As tears start to form in her watery grey eyes, Jack tenderly wiped his finger over Katherine's cheeks as they flow down, removing them. "Katherine, look. I know I am not him as much as you know. But maybe it's time to see me as who I am now, not as whom I used to be. I may never compete to the legacy of Nightlight, but I know he was always there for you. And I am trying my absolute best to do the same. Now, how about we go watch the constellations and teach them to the kids like you taught me, shall we?" Jack suggested, grinning. She silently agreed and bent sideways to kiss his cheek, then proceeded to walk outside. "Thank you, Jack. Nightlight would've wanted me to do the same."

i know im not as active here as i wanna be but i am consistently still lurking the rotg tag <33 either way, heres a cute hc i had!: Jack, after remembering his life as nightlight, being really insecure on whether or not katherine would still like him like he is now, since he is very different in alot of ways, but katherine basically grabbing him by both sides of the face and yelling “I LOVE EVERY PART OF YOU SO MUCH, YOU ADORABLE MORON” i just think theyre cute

I’d greatly appreciate if you took the time to read this but it’s okay if you don’t. :)

I’ve been asked this a lot in the past but I feel I should officially address it because it is indeed a very weird coincidence. And it’s honestly a bit laughable at the end of the day… but I can’t help but feel a little bothered because it still goes on.

Over the years of shipping Jiara/Ivyfrost as an oc x canon pairing, I’ve heard the Kiara-Katherine comparison many many times, and I just want to clear the air. I’ve never read the Guardians books, so I know absolutely nothing about Katherine other than she portrays Mother Goose (which I Googled out of curiosity). I believe the visual resemblance between my character Kiara and Katherine was brought to my attention a couple years ago in DeviantArt, where an individual approached me and asked why I based an original character off of a book character. I was genuinely confused as to who she was referring to… but it was solved smoothly. There was no issue at all. They were super chill and understanding.

Another funny comparison I discover upon joining tumblr in 2020 was that Jiara was the name of another ship from a TV series, which I’m sure many may be familiar with. “Outer Banks” is currently one of my favorite shows, but it was slightly shocking how much Kiara Carrera and JJ Maybanks bore resemblance to my little pairing of Kiara Ivy and Jack Frost.

The last one that took me by surprise was a Dramione reference, from a friend on Instagram. To say the least, I didn’t think about it until it was brought to my attention. But I accept it 😂

But I want to reiterate this:

Kiara Ivy is my main original character, based on myself and my life experiences. I grew up adding to this story, learning lessons of my own. And then eventually Kiara became her own concept and I decided I wanted to build a universe around that.

Kiara is 1000000000% original and a product of ideas I have had over the past few years. I plan to write a book and produce a homemade TV series about this storyline. She is written in a canon universe based around dark fairytale lore and mythology. Yes, this concept of mine was inspired by the movie ROTG, but again I’ve never read the books and hadn’t even heard of them until I joined Tumblr and DeviantArt a few years ago.

Comparisons will always be made, no matter what. We perceive things based on our own interests and perspectives. And it’s kind of funny how we draw connections in different places.

This ending song from Kingdom Hearts 3 gives me a lot of feels for Jack Frost / Nightlight x Katherine from the Guardians of Childhood book series by William Joyce. I am not well verse of the books because I can’t find the books in my area (I only had ever read the books about the Man in the Moon and the Sandman). I did read up the plots from the wiki even though it’s incomplete. At least I have some grasp about it.

I try to focus primarily on Rise of the Guardians because since book 5 “Jack Frost: The End Becomes the Beginning”, the book universe and the movie universe have become separated. However, I do share fanarts for the Guardians of Childhood.

This song by Utada Hikaru highlights the relationship between Sora and Kairi. They start as friends and by the end of Kingdom Hearts 3, they have seemingly become more than friends as they share a Paopu Fruit, which has this legend: "If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what." In the Guardians of Childhood series, Nightlight (later becomes Jack Frost) and Katherine start out as friends and then they become lovers. Fortunately, their relationship end with a happy ending, unlike Sora and Kairi.

I find this song so wholesome, and just want to share it to the Katlight or Jatherine shippers! I hope you all love this song and my analysis!

So I just finished up Santa Claus’ book (he wasn’t named Santa Claus yet, but they did make the gear as the set-up!); and although there are continuity issues regarding ages, in connection to the movie, you’re missing the fuck out on the prequel series if you already watched the movie—especially multiple times, like I did.

Also, Nightlight/Jack is a boy-shaped crystal, so that makes him a nonbinary bisexual twink with he/they. Though right now Katherine’s a kid (like 8 or something, idk, nobody’s age is numbered, I just feel like she’s 8), so that’s a no until like Jack’s book where she’s hopefully an adult—and this legal.

And Book Jack (assuming Nightlight is Jack) is older than Man In Moon, was the guy who defeated Pitch originally, guarded over baby Moony, and was probs besties with Kozmotis Pitchiner (Pitch’s old name, pre-corruption to villainy). So they have prior history.

Now I’m gonna get the book 2, Easter Bunny’s story.

You watched him amused as he flew all over the place, especially around your room bringing and dropping things on the bed where you were now sitting. It was cute to see him so nervous and anxious.

"Do you need anything else? Chocolates? A blanket? Magazines? Medicine? Cookies?" You laughed in denial and took his hands and pulled him to you as soon as you could get close to him.

"Jack, calm down, okay? I'm pregnant, not invalid." He sighed and nodded and sat down across from you.

"I'm sorry, it's just that... I've never been through this before, I'm going to be a father for the first time and I don't want anything to happen to you? I wouldn't forgive myself." You smiled tenderly and caressed his cheeks softly making him look at you.

"I know love, and I understand you, but I've only been here for two months, there's no danger of me getting up and walking to the bathroom." You gave him a little kiss and the winter spirit smiled to give you another kiss.

"Okay, I'll calm down a little with the attentions."

"I love your attentions, Jack." You laughed and made him lie down with you on the bed, you both hugged each other and cuddled on his chest, Jack took your hand and you started to play with each other with your hands, in silence, but a cozy and relaxing silence.

"Have you thought of a name yet?" Jack sighed smiling and nodded.

"I was thinking that if it's a girl, I'd like her name to be Katherine." You smiled at that.

"I like that name, what if it's a boy?"

"Uff... I have no idea, do you have one?" You nodded excitedly and raised your head so you both could see each other smiling.

"If it's a boy, I'd like his name to be Angel." Jack smiled even more when he heard you and took your hand until he left a kiss on the back of it.

"I love it, little Angel." You smiled and they kissed each other, showing all the love they had for each other and the happiness it caused them to think of the future that awaited them now that they were looking forward, more Jack, to the son or daughter of the Guardian of Fun.

"Jack, love... I'm craving." You pouted once they broke away from the kiss and Jack laughed softly raising an amused eyebrow.

"Oh yeah? After a kiss like that, I hope you're craving of me." You laughed softly and caressed his chest with a flirtatious look.

"Mm... It might be like that..." You whispered and bit your lower lip looking into his eyes. Jack gasped softly and climbed on top of you carefully.

"Then I must fulfill my girl's desires." He purred in your ear then kissed your neck slowly, you smiled and stroked his hair, to get close to his ear and whispered.

"You know what I'm craving exactly, right now?" Jack growled into your neck and tightened his grip on your hips.

"Tell me, baby." You lightly bit his lobe smiling and whispered.

"A pizza with Nutella." The platinum hair guy grunted in frustration and dropped his head to the bed, while you laughed at his reaction, he raised his head to see you with a face of few friends.

"Baby, you just killed the magical moment we were having." You laughed harder.

"Sorry love, but the baby wants what the baby wants." Jack rolled his eyes in denial.

"And the baby wants a pizza with Nutella?"

"Yes, and maybe he doesn't want you to make him another baby brother." He narrowed his eyes, staring at you.

"That's impossible, Y/N."

"Look who's talking, the spirit that impregnated a human." He let out a frustrated sigh in denial.

"Don't remind me of that..."

"Come on, come on, I want pizza..." You pouted taking his face in your hands, Jack sighed and nodded resignedly.

"All right, I'll go get your pizza." You interrump him

"And the Nutella." He sighs.

"And the Nutella..." He got up and picked up his cane from the side of the bed.

"If you come back soon, maybe I'll reward you." Jack grinned wickedly at you.

"With a magical night?"

"Or a slice of pizza?" You smile.

"Y/N!" You laughed loudly and nodded at him.

"Fine, with our magical night."

"That's my girl!" He came up to kiss your lips with a smile. "I'll be back soon, I love you." He went down to leave a kiss on your belly smiling and walked quickly to the window.

"And we love you, love." You smiled when you saw him leaving through the window and sighed snuggling on the bed, you softly caressed your belly with a smile and closed your eyes imagining a little boy with platinum hair like Jack, or a little brown girl like you but with Jack's eyes, it was so beautiful to think that in 7 months that what you imagined was going to come true. "Here we are waiting for you my baby, your daddy and I are excited to meet you..." You whispered and let yourself be carried away by the deep sleep you were feeling, no doubt despite everything that was going to happen with you being a human and Jack a spirit, it was going to be worth it with the arrival of his son or daughter, and you knew that very well inside you.

I said this once and I’ll say it again: I am 99.998% sure that the brown haired girl from that scene when Jack freezes a boy’s tongue at a water fountain is Katherine. And if it is… I SHIP JACK/KATHERINE. (I’ll still ship it either way. ;D )
