Channeling Kamikaze Girls' Momoko! I hand embroidered a few accessories to match Rose Ribbon Embroidery for the BtSSB NYFW show. This post is more of a process/homage type of video, but there is a lot more video and photos to come!

i really wanted to paint this since about march, but haven't really found the time to do so. at last, i finished it before the end of pride month.

the two girls are dressed in traditional Slovak folk dress, or kroj (traditional folk formalwear) from Piešťany region. Piešťany and the nearby village of Krakovany have one of the most gorgeous forms of kroj in the entire country and for a long time, dolls dressed in this style of dress were gifted to foreign delegations to represent my country. the same country that won't represent people like me

it is a form of reclamation, in a way, to depict sapphic love in this dress. we're here, and have always been here, even if the rest of the people will deny us our existence. this is for all my fellow queers living through being a hot point of debate during elections. you are seen and you are loved. you are part of this country, and you are part of our culture, and the culture belongs to you just as much as to everyone else

Going through my collection of Ukrainian rose patterns for the current project I’m working on. I got many of these patterns from this article on roses in Ukrainian folk embroidery.

Quote from article which I found interesting:

“Many people, including many Ukrainians consider this to be the most typical and widespread type of embroidery in Central, Southern and Eastern Ukraine. You will find many popular publications which show graphs of such designs.

On the other hand you will find few such designs in books written by those who study the history of Ukrainian costume and embroidery seriously. They state emphatically that this is NOT a traditional form of embroidery in Ukraine.

Curiously, both of these statements are true.”

Finally posting some photos from the BtSSB NYFW show with friends!

Everyone was so cute and really dressed up their best for the show!

I only talked to a few people and failed to recognize a lot of people I followed online, which I feel a bit regretful about...(of course, I think recognizing me would be much too difficult, haha). But it was so cool to see the community come together like this and I really liked seeing everyone's photo and video of the event (and sometimes me in the background😳)

I have so many more photos of this outfit I want to share but I'll probably do so slowly since I think everyone has had enough for now.

Picking up on this old cross stitch project from the bags of leftovers from my mom, seems to have come with complications.

Had to unstitch a few bits I was supposed to continue from, already made who knows how many years ago, because plenty of those stitches weren't placed right as according to the pattern. But far too late as I start working to continue this one, do I realize I should have unstitched far more than I first did. Cuz a big enough mistake had the section I'm working on be far too the left than intended by the photo example of the finished version.

This type of yarn used is different and more flossy than what I'm used to work with, and a bit of a bother. No way imma try unstitch all I've made so far at the risk of just breaking all the yarn threads.

So I'm saying Heck to that and just resume as I've done so far and just repeat same error to keep the error symmetrical at the very least. Cuz it's given me ideas of some fun motivational words I'll have room to add now.

Just some pondering and planning I felt like sharing after realizing the mistakes made that would be too much work to back up on.
