Dahlia's surname is completely coincidental. V (the creator aka me, since that is my initial) just thought of the surname in the middle of a blackout in school. Assuming it was original, V takes Rosenheim as Dahlia's surname. One day, when she randomly searched up 'Rosenheim' in Google, she discovered it was actually an existing city in Germany.

Dahlia is unsurprisingly named after a flower. Her mother always loved flowers, especially dahlias. Therefore when Dahlia was born, her mother named her after the flower.

Dahlia's main occupation is a lawyer. She works in her own law office, formerly working under her uncle's law firm. She owns a rice business to invest money faster, advised by her mother.

Dahlia's income per month is 200K-300K. During harvest months, it can reach a million.

Dahlia prioritizes the things that she love such as her family and friends. But as a Christian, she always puts God first.

Dahlia once wanted to be a psychiatrist, knowing that mental health nowadays is completely overlooked by many. But she stopped achieving the dream when she discovered their monthly income.

People would most likely know her by 'Atty. Rosenheim' than her own name.

Whenever it came to the seven deadly sins, Dahlia's main enemy is envy. Her second is lust.

Dahlia's voice is mildly deep compared to other women. Her voice is also soft and gentle.

It is rare to see Dahlia angry. And if she is, beware not to push her buttons.

Dahlia is lowkey into science and technology, even archeology! She loves to see such historical items and new inventions that can help today's society.

Dahlia can fluently speak Filipino. She also once tried to learn Japanese in Duolingo. However, she stopped during her lesson in directions.

Dahlia learned Russian in Duolingo before she switched to Japanese. She cannot catch up with the information and difficult words.

Dahlia is often mistaken to be an earth sign due to her appearance. When in reality, she is actually a water sign. Her personality explains it all.

Dahlia, although she is very embarrassed and ashamed, Dahlia has higher than average libido. This is because (tw. implied early exposure) Dahlia's cousin introduced her to those things at a young age. Her cousin was still a vibe, though since they get along very well.

Speaking of the past lovers, Dahlia has four exes. Three of them were serious, and one was only a fling that lasted for only four months. (This will be elaborated in a future post.)

I wanted to read "Ilias" by Auguste Lechner but didn't get past the first few pages because of lack of time but that's on my to read list. Same as a play a colleague recommended, also the one we're currently working on. Otherwise only old fanfics because my brain feels a bit too full rn😅can't wait for the thesis to be finished 👀because I ordered a biography about one of my favorite authors of all time, Erich Kästner ❤️

4 July 1997 - Zürich after 20+ years - Züri Fäscht - Polybahn - Spätzle and Hürlimann for supper

Friday 4 July 1997

Hi everyone, Grüezi mitenand e buon giorno! Welcome to my second international journey which takes maybe two and a half days.  I would go from München Hbf to Zürich HB without changing trains, on Saturday 5th July take a train in the morning from Zürich HB to Milano Centrale, and in the afternoon on Sunday the 6th July I would take the train from Milano Centrale to München Hbf, changing direction at Verona Porta Nuova, going through Trentino Alto-Adige / Südtirol past Brenner, Innsbruck, Kufstein, Rosenheim and exiting at München Ostbahnhof.  I stayed at hostels, sharing bedrooms with strangers.  I had my youth hostel membership card with me so I would not have to pay extra.

On Thursday 3rd July I made sure that I had all my train tickets with me, including the sections between Lindau Hbf and St. Margrethen SG, as well as Brenner to Kufstein.  I know of the station Lochau-Hörbranz, just right across the border past the future station Lindau Reutin (in operation since December 2020), but the EuroCity train did not stop there, nor did it stop at Lustenau, the final S-Bahn stop along the Bregenz S-Bahn line S3, before crossing into Switzerland.  It would make little to no difference anyway.  I listened to the radio the night before, listening to "Lonely" by Nana, an ad for an upcoming Michael Jackson concert somewhere near Kieferngarten/Freimann, "A girl like you" by Edwyn Collins, "Sultans of swing" by Dire Straits, and in the morning when I woke up about 5:45 AM, I tuned in Bayern 3.  There was a contest to win a ticket to the Michael Jackson concert for Sunday evening the 6th July 1997.  The song that was garbled was "Billie Jean", and the contestant had to play about ten seconds of it on their own radio or tape player - I could not play along because I did not have a copy of "Thriller" with me, either tape or CD.  Oh well.

It was Friday morning 4th of July.  I was already awake by 6 AM.  I took a shower, made some sandwiches and coffee in one bottle and soda mix in another, and then left for the St. Quirin Platz bus stop.  I took the bus 99 to Silberhornstraße, the U Bahn to Hauptbahnhof and I was on the 8:05 AM train from München Hbf to Zürich HB.  I made sure that I had marked 04 07 in my Eurail Pass, so that the conductor could see it and cancel it for the rest of the day.  I was in second class, so I was towards the front part of the train past the dining car.  The second class car was okay, not exactly spacious.  The train did not stop at München-Pasing at all.  It did not stop until Buchloe.  Back in 1997, there was no electrification of any kind between Geltendorf and Lindau Hbf.  I did not know this until the train passed Geltendorf and was wondering, where is the catenary?  It has been a long time since a mast had been spotted.  It turned out that the locomotives were DB-218 diesel.  The train would stop in Buchloe, Memmingen and Lindau Hbf.  Only Lindau Hbf had electrification that came from Lochau-Hörbranz in Austria, and Lindau Reutin as a passenger station had not been built yet.  For that reason, the train had to not only change direction, but because of the non-electrified section between Lindau Hbf and Geltendorf, the train had to switch from a diesel locomotive to an electric locomotive in order to continue to Zürich HB.  The weather was not particularly friendly, being a rainy day and temperatures in the mid 60s / about 17 to 19 C, yet it was fair enough for the train to make its stops on time in Germany.

After the train left Lindau Hbf, I turned on the radio and tried to listen to Bayern 3 and Radio Vorarlberg as well as the DRS (which has since become SRF).  My analog radio had its difficulties receiving stations, as it was not the digitally tuned HS-JS 475 model that I would buy about a year later.  I was able to pick up songs like "I don't want to be alone" by the Bee-Gees and "Down by the schoolyard" by Paul Simon.  I even was able to hear "Lazy Sunday afternoon" by the Small Faces (prior to Rod Stewart joining) and "Ruby Tuesday" by Rod Stewart, originally by the Rolling Stones.

The train from Lindau Hbf to Zürich HB was using a SBB class 421 electric locomotive for the remainder of the journey.  Between Lindau and Bregenz, border checks were already conducted.  The first stop after Lindau was Bregenz Hbf. It was a six track through-station with an overpass, one to the park and Seebühne venue, the other way to the taxi stand and Möhrenbräu restaurant and pub.  I stepped out for about a minute or so, and was able to take a photo before boarding the train before it left for St. Margrethen via Lustenau.  I could clearly notice that the clouds to the north of Bregenz were gathering.  The train made a southward and then a westward journey past Lustenau.  It crossed a bridge over the Rhine.  A minute later the train arrived in St. Margrethen.  The train had to stop for about ten minutes to perform passport checks.  Back then, neither Austria nor Switzerland were part of the Schengen Agreement, and passport checks until mid-spring 2009 were mandatory between the EU countries and Switzerland.  EU membership had little to no bearing before or after.

The train continued between St. Margrethen, St. Gallen, Winterthur without a stop in the canton of Thurgau (connection to Frauenfeld TG were available at Winterthur and points in between), Zürich Airport which was the only underground long-distance rail station, and past Oerlikon, Zürich HB.  The train arrived around 12:25 PM.  I had been to Zürich HB as early as 1976 with both of my parents, so returning 21 years by myself seemed a bit daunting at first.

It should be noted, that in Swiss written German, that place names generally do not start with Ä, Ö or Ü.  And they never contain the ß letter.  Instead, place names start as Ae for Ä, Oe for Ö and Ue for Ü.  Anywhere that in Germany or Austria that would contain an ß, would have instead “ss”.  In July 1998 when I returned, I would visit Uetliberg, and again in August 1998 the day after the Street Parade before going back to München.

I needed to withdraw some money, maybe 100 CHF at the time.  The ATM at Zürich HB was not working correctly, so I took my ATM card, bought a day pass for the Zürich tram system, at that time just 7.20 CHF and valid for 24 hours after purchase, then took the tram to Paradeplatz where there was an ATM.  I successfully withdrew 100 CHF from my bank account.  Then I needed to find a place to put my luggage.  I thought I would remember the location of the youth hostel, and that it would be on Mutschellenstrasse towards the tram stop Morgental.  Sadly I had forgotten that detail since I left the Youth Hostel guide at my home and back then I did not even have a cellphone, so using Google would have been out of the question.  I did however find a hostel, and it was called the City Backpacker, located at the Schweizerhofgasse, upstairs on top of a Spaghetti Factory with a solid black German Shepherd logo.  The reception was open and the shared room price was around 27 Francs per bed, quite a bargain considering that Zürich is an expensive city to visit and live in.  The Youth Hostel in Morgental was asking a similar price.  Breakfast was not included in the overnight price.  At least here there was no "curfew", no lockout time in particular, but quiet time was 10 PM to 6 AM.

I took the tram from Helmhaus to Central, and rode the Polybahn up only, not down.  The Polybahn accepts short trip tickets, and a VBZ day pass would definitely be accepted.  At the top of the Polybahn, was the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, or Confederate Technical University of Zürich.  I remember a year later returning to make a selfie with a different camera, not the Konica that I had at the time.  

I walked to the Universitätsspital Zürich tram stop and took a tram to Seilbahn Rigiblick.  I did not know at the time that there was a secret U Bahn in Zürich, with only lines 7 and 9 between Milchbuck to Schwamendinger Platz, and I was not interested in that at the time, in fact, I did not visit it until September 2000, probably two visits hence.  I boarded the cable car and found that there was no driver.  Instead there was a set of buttons, up to the top station Rigiblick with a bus connection.  I picked the top station.  At Rigiblick, I boarded the bus line 39.  At the time this line was operated with a Renault Trafic minivan, with manual transmission.  The driver announced all the stops from Rigiblick to Klösterli.  I stayed on the bus until I arrived at Klösterli next to the zoo.  We had passed the Zoo tram stop, so I could have returned by tram lines 5 or 6, but I chose to explore Klösterli before taking the bus back.  I looked at the menu for the Klösterli restaurant but found the prices to be too high for my liking.  I took the bus back to Rigiblick and then the cable car back to the bottom.

One bit of trivia for the Fluntern - Zoo district, author James Joyce was buried in the Fluntern cemetery.  He had lived in Zürich for a while, despite having also lived in Dublin where “Ulysses” had taken place.

I took a tram from Seilbahn Rigiblick Talstation through Unterstrass and on to Oerlikon.  I decided to take an S-Bahn to Stettbach, hoping to exit there.  However I boarded a S-5 train to Uster, outside of Zürich.  The train stopped at Hardbrücke, went underground to the tracks 21 to 24, and since the Löwenstrasse station had opened in the 2010s, it is now called tracks 41 to 44, then on to an open cut at Stadelhofen, and did not stop until Uster.  The train went right through Stettbach.  I had heard about Stettbach S Bahn station through the Zürich Marco Polo guide, which I should have bought but felt a bit too frugal to buy it until Summer 1998 when I returned.  I walked around the Uster S Bahn station and boarded the next train to Zürich.  My Eurail pass would have been valid for the entire S-Bahn network in second class, as far as Schaffhausen if I were so bold to want to go there that day.

When I returned to Zürich, I exited at Stadelhofen.  Between Bellevueplatz, the Opernhaus and Bürkliplatz, there was the Züri Fäscht going on.  The majority of the music played there, was New Orleans jazz and some rapping.  I remember even going to one stage where there was a singer singing his own version of "Amazing Grace" which included a rap.  I had recorded his singing and it was pretty good.  For food, some places were selling Cajun cuisine, even jambalaya.  Since I did not go to Switzerland to have Cajun food, I had to take a pass on it, sadly.  

I had walked along the Bahnhofstrasse, hoping to find the Neue Schweizerische Börse, which at the time I did not know, was actually at the southwest end of the Selnau rail station.  I did not find anything at the time, that I wanted to particularly buy, nor did I find anything to eat just yet.  So I went back to the hostel to rest up a bit.  

About 9 PM I left the hostel and took a line 32 trolleybus to Farbhof.  I wanted to just ride along, to see if there was anywhere to eat for cheap.  I was a bit disappointed.  So I went back to Central and the Niederdorferstrasse.  I found one place called the Brasserie Johanniter which was still serving warm meals.  At the time, it was serving Spätzle with ham, cheese and onions.  I ordered a half liter of Hürlimann lager to go with that.  It did not cost too much, maybe under 30 CHF.  I used my debit card to pay.  I turned on my radio and recorded something from Radio Z or some similar FM station.  Some songs I recorded included "Samba de Janeiro", "Firestarter" and "Insomnia".  Those were songs that in 1997 were in the top charts.  

I walked back to the Spaghetti Factory and went upstairs to my room.  I think four others were in the same room.  I went to sleep and made a note to wake up by 6:30 AM to leave the next morning for Milan.

I hope you will join me for tomorrow's adventure crossing the Alps through the Gotthard Pass between Göschenen and Airolo, and going up the Ceneri grade.  Even with the bad weather, it should be an enjoyable journey all the same.

Raymond Daniel Manzarek Jr. was born on February 12, 1939. He was an American musician, singer, producer, film director, and author. He was best known as a member of the Doors from 1965 to 1973, which he co-founded with singer and lyricist Jim Morrison.

Manzarek was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as a member of the Doors. He was a co-founding member of Nite City from 1977 to 1978, and of Manzarek–Krieger from 2001 until his death in 2013. USA Today defined him as "one of the best keyboardists ever".

Raymond Daniel Manczarek Jr. was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. He was born to Helena (1918–2012) and Raymond Manczarek Sr. (1914–1987), and was of Polish descent.

In 1956, he matriculated at DePaul University, where he played piano in his fraternity's jazz band (the Beta Pi Mu Combo), participated in intramural football, served as treasurer of the Speech Club, and organized a charity concert with Sonny Rollins and Dave Brubeck. He graduated from the University's College of Commerce with a degree in economics in 1960.

In the fall of 1961, Manzarek briefly enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. Unable to acclimate to the curriculum, he transferred to the Department of Motion Pictures, Television and Radio as a graduate student before dropping out altogether after breaking up with a girlfriend. Although he attempted to enlist in the Army Signal Corps as a camera operator, he was instead assigned to the highly selective Army Security Agency as a prospective intelligence analyst.

Manzarek married fellow UCLA alumna Dorothy Aiko Fujikawa in Los Angeles on December 21, 1967, with Jim Morrison and his longtime companion, Pamela Courson, as witnesses. Manzarek and Fujikawa remained married until his death. They had a son, Pablo born on August 31, 1973, and three grandchildren. In the early 1970s, the Manzareks divided their time between an apartment in West Hollywood, California, and a small penthouse on New York City's Upper West Side. They subsequently resided in Beverly Hills, California (including ten years in a house on Rodeo Drive) for several decades. For the last decade of his life, Manzarek and his wife lived in a refurbished farmhouse near Vichy Springs, California in the Napa Valley.

In March 2013, Manzarek was diagnosed with a rare cancer called cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) and traveled to Germany for special treatment. During that time he reconciled with Densmore, and he spoke to Krieger before his death. He also performed a private concert for his doctors and nurses. Manzarek was "feeling better" until it took a turn for the worse according to his manager. On May 20, 2013, Manzarek died at a hospital in Rosenheim, Germany, at the age of 74. His body was cremated. Krieger said, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today. I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him." Densmore said, "There was no keyboard player on the planet more appropriate to support Jim Morrison's words. Ray, I felt totally in sync with you musically. It was like we were of one mind, holding down the foundation for Robby and Jim to float on top of. I will miss my musical brother."

Greg Harris, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, said in reaction to Manzarek's death that "The world of rock 'n' roll lost one of its greats with the passing of Ray Manzarek." Harris also said that "he was instrumental in shaping one of the most influential, controversial and revolutionary groups of the '60s. Such memorable tracks as 'Light My Fire', 'People Are Strange' and 'Hello, I Love You' – to name but a few – owe much to Manzarek's innovative playing."

On February 12, 2016, at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, Densmore and Krieger reunited for the first time in 15 years to perform in tribute to Manzarek and benefit Stand Up to Cancer. That day would have been Manzarek's 77th birthday. The night featured Exene Cervenka and John Doe of the band X, Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo, Jane's Addiction's Stephen Perkins, Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara and Andrew Watt, among others.

In April 2018, the film Break On Thru: A Celebration of Ray Manzarek and the Doors premiered at the 2018 Asbury Park Music & Film Festival. The film highlights the 2016 concert in honor of what would have been Manzarek's 77th birthday, and new footage and interviews. The film won the APMFF Best Film Feature Award at the festival.

It's been quite a while since I was immersed in this fantastic and fascinating world that Mr. Zektbach has created.

At first, I hated mathematics, but under the influence of chapter 2, I decided to try my best to understand mathematics.

When I opened my mind to numbers, I realized that it was incredibly interesting, and now I love mathematics.

The more I studied philosophy, languages, history, mythology, etc., the more I found similarities with Aria Te Raria, and the more interested I became in the world.

nobody tagged me but i’m doing it anyway. also i’m adding commentary bc it’s saturday and i’m feeling self-indulgent

1. Contractually Obligated (11k, T, arranged marriage fic)

His Summoning Spells went first.

(this line was always the first line but accio was originally a placeholder spell - i wanted to think of a spell that was a little more metaphorical? but this fic was SO hard to write [surprisingly not bc of the 16 prompts i had to fit in (those were quite fun), but bc my head has just not been in it these last few months]. so in the end i just left it as summoning spells. fuck it.)

2. Wrapped (10k, E, christmas smut)

When he was a kid, Harry had never liked his birthday. 

(i can’t tell u how many times i rewrote this line and i still think it’s a lil clunky. is the tense wrong?? i can’t tell, but there’s a better way of wording this, i just know it – if u figure it out pls tell me and i’m editing the fic. i’m serious. help.)

3. Adventures in Truth and Texting (11k, E, advent texting fic)

I swear to god, it was a magical satsuma

(usually i can write first lines right away and they don’t change much – but this was one of the last things i wrote. i wanted the opening line to be fun, but also christmassy, but also a metaphor [harry is the satsuma: delish but hard to peel].)

4. All I Have To Do (9.5k, E, sexy daydream charm fic)

“I mean it, Harry. You know I approve of being cautious, but it’s just not you.”

(i added this prologue-y section with hermione quite late in the game – originally i wanted the reveal that the daydream charm didn’t work to be a twist, but figured it would make the tension much higher on first read if the reader knew all along. also this line was a fun way of making it a lil more believable that harry would jump into fucking draco malfoy with fairly little protest, haha)

5. Fip Flops (830 words, T, fake relationship fluff)

The business card was even in Slytherin colours. Harry stared at it uncomprehendingly.

(i think this one came quite easily? i knew i wanted to tie in a fake relationship/dating service trope with chuck’s wonderful beachy art. having harry read draco’s business card was quite a boring + predictable way of doing it, but i was aiming for 600 words [obv i overshot haha] and it felt like the quickest way.)

6. Thirst (4.5k, E, vampire smut)

Harry has been tracking Malfoy for hours. The journey has taken him from Munich, through Rosenheim, and now to here, a dark street in outer Salzburg.

(lmao this one is bc i wrote the first few hundred words for a drabble challenge where the prompt was “journey”. i wanted to write sexy vampires. so i made harry go on a vampire journey(?!?!?) so it fit with the prompt.)

7. The Four Doors (49k, E, memory loss/legilimency mind healer fic)

“Mr Potter, Ms Granger. How kind of you to come at such short notice. Please, sit.”

(not much to say about this one? it wasn’t the first thing i wrote for 4d – that was the 👀scene in the leaky cauldron 👀– but it was pretty early. just a quick way of introducing the healer OC and establishing harry’s memory loss, innit.)

8. Fresh Eyes (248 words, M, morally grey draco drabble)

“Back so soon?”

(i think this was literally the first thing i wrote for this? i wanted to make basically every line have a different meaning on the second readthrough. i think i did ok? – not so much with this line specifically, but with harry’s reaction to it.)

9. Say No To This (12k, E, drarry version of the hamilton song)

It was unbearably warm in Grimmauld Place.

(establishing that it is summer. in the city. there’s nothing like it.)

10. An Ameliorated Strategy of Communication (3k, E, harry/percy pwp)

Despite everything, Harry still loved being at the Burrow.

(god this fic is so old now. i think this might have been the first line i wrote and honestly i doubt i edited it much, if at all. doesn’t serve much of a purpose other than setting the scene, really.)

11. The Coward (prompt: storybook)

The hero fought dragons and basilisks, villains and ghouls.

(this was my first drabble ever. tried to do a thing where in the first half i used flowy metaphorical fairytale language, then the second half was mundane and fluffy? idk, it was weird and not v well executed. also idk if anyone noticed, but harry never actually fought a ghoul in canon?? he just dressed one in ron’s pyjamas?? but i wanted a monosyllabic word to fit with the rhythm and this was the only one i could think of, lol.)

12. A Second Self (prompt: in the dead of night)

Harry squints at the damp-spotted page.

(tried real hard with this drabble to portray a super creepy atmosphere. picked at every line [including this first one!] at least, like, a dozen times. showed it to my beta again afterwards and she said “i can’t tell the difference?”, so after this drab i gave up on creepiness and settled back into dickish banter real quick, haha. but this was like the 10th different first line, something ridic like that.)

13. Constant Vigilance (prompt: potion)

The Head Auror allows pub nights under two conditions.

(establishing aurors, establishing pub – also the two conditions that follow establish the potion of the prompt, the reason for draco’s sobriety, and also the “constant vigilance” theme. fairly heavy lifting for a first line, i guess, but still don’t love the drabble itself, so.)

14. Personal impersonation (prompt: borrowed)

“Don’t tell Ron.”

(was never sure about this one – it’s supposed to be draco speaking, but he’s pretending to be ginny. i think if there hadn’t been a wordcount restriction, i could have made that a bit more ambiguously draco-esque, bc at the moment there’s nothing to suggest it’s him. i usually love smaller wordcount challenges but i think this drab would have been so much stronger with an extra 50ish words.)

patterns? idk. i like quite a short, snappy first line, i guess. i also expected a lot more of them to be dialogue, so i’m quite surprised that it’s only 4 (or 5, if u count the texting fic). 

favourite? i mean, possibly magical satsuma from truth and texting. i like that it hits all three check-boxes of being seasonal, a metaphor for harry, and also a ridiculous way to open a story.

30. When it comes to the arts (music, film, theater, etc), what does your character like?

Ahtyn is rare among Sea Wolves in that she loves books! She loves stories of any kind, but being able to go through a book at her own pace is one of her favorite things. Anything that has a good story is her jam - and that includes sea shanties.

Ashe loves hero songs and folk songs and just about anything sung in a bar, but her absolute favorite thing - and she will die before ever admitting it - is love songs. (She also has a formidable and extremely secret collection of smutty romance novels; through a sheer stroke of fate, her favorite fiction writer is now a guest at the Sandsea.)

Rosenheim was given the chance to witness some few Garlean theater productions during his service... nothing on the level of the Majestic, but still of excellent quality, and he found himself enjoying the show much more than he had expected he would.

Ingvald doesn’t have much of a taste for the arts! He derives much more pleasure from being outdoors and enjoying the beauty of nature. In silence.

1. If you would be able to learn any instrument overnight, which one would it be?

Probably the piano, because I’ve always loved the sound of it. Alternatively the Cello would be lovely too and take up less room and since I only have a 1 room flat I’m probably gonna go with that actually.

2. What places are you dying to go to and why?

China, because I’m minoring in Chinese studies at uni and it’s just such a fascinating country to me

The UK & Ireland, they’re gorgeous places with beautiful scenery and lovely cities and I just lived in the UK for roughly a year and I loved it and I already want to go back even though I’m also very happy to be home

Italy, because despite going there on majority of my childhood vacations I’m not sick of it at all, quite the opposite and I’m also a huge history nerd and I took 6 years of Latin, so loads of fascinating sights

Iceland, because everyone I know who’s been there was absolutely in love with the place

Kenya, because it’s a beautiful country and one 2 1/2 weeks visit was not enough and that trip was 8 years ago

I started reading Harry Potter when I was in first grade at 6 years old and back then I was a MASSIVE scaredy-cat, so when they encountered Fluffy for the first time I got really spooked and put the book down and never touched anything Harry Potter related again until 8 years later

5. If you would get the chance to re-do one (only one) of your actions, which one would it be?

Jesus this is a hard one. I’d like to have been more assertive and confident when strange men have approached me and right away told them to fuck off before they touched me

I love tattoos and want to get some very badly but alas, I’m a broke student so I gotta save up a bit first

Today we remember the passing of Ray Manzarek who Died: May 20, 2013 in Rosenheim, Germany

Raymond Daniel Manzarek Jr. was an American musician, singer, producer, film director, and author, best known as a member of The Doors from 1965 to 1973, which he co-founded with singer and lyricist Jim Morrison.

Manzarek was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 as a member of the Doors. He was a co-founding member of Nite City from 1977 to 1978, and of Manzarek–Krieger from 2001 until his death in 2013. USA Today defined him as "one of the best keyboardists ever".

Raymond Daniel Manczarek Jr. was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. He was born to Helena (1918–2012) and Raymond Manczarek Sr. (1914–1987), and was of Polish descent.

In 1956, he matriculated at DePaul University, where he played piano in his fraternity's jazz band (the Beta Pi Mu Combo), participated in intramural football, served as treasurer of the Speech Club, and organized a charity concert with Sonny Rollins and Dave Brubeck. He graduated from the University's College of Commerce with a degree in economics in 1960.

In the fall of 1961, Manzarek briefly enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. Unable to acclimatize to the curriculum, he transferred to the Department of Motion Pictures, Television and Radio as a graduate student before dropping out altogether after breaking up with a girlfriend. Although he attempted to enlist in the Army Signal Corps as a camera operator, he was instead assigned to the highly selective Army Security Agency as a prospective intelligence analyst.

Following his return to the U.S., he re-enrolled in UCLA's graduate film program in 1962, where he received a M.F.A. in cinematography in 1965. During this period, he met future wife Dorothy Fujikawa and undergraduate film student Jim Morrison. At the time, Manzarek was in a band called Rick & the Ravens with his brothers Rick and Jim. Forty days after finishing film school, thinking they had gone their separate ways, Manzarek and Morrison met by chance on Venice Beach in California. Morrison said he had written some songs, and Manzarek expressed an interest in hearing them, whereupon Morrison sang rough versions of "Moonlight Drive", "My Eyes Have Seen You" and "Summer's Almost Gone". During this period, Manzarek met teenage guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore at a Transcendental Meditation lecture and recruited them for the incipient band. Densmore said, "There wouldn't be any Doors without Maharishi."

In January 1966, the Doors became the house band at the London Fog on the Sunset Strip. According to Manzarek, "Nobody ever came in the place ... an occasional sailor or two on leave, a few drunks. All in all it was a very depressing experience, but it gave us time to really get the music together." When the Doors were fired from the London Fog, they were hired to be the house band at the Whisky a Go Go. The Doors' first recording contract was with Columbia Records. After a few months of inactivity, they learned they were on Columbia's drop list. At that point, they asked to be released from their contract. Following a few months of live gigs, Jac Holzman "rediscovered" the Doors and signed them to Elektra Records.

The Doors lacked a bass guitarist (except during recording sessions), so for live performances Manzarek played the bass parts on a Fender Rhodes piano keyboard bass. His signature sound was that of the Vox Continental combo organ, an instrument used by many other psychedelic rock bands of the era. He also used a Gibson G-101 Kalamazoo combo organ (which looks like a Farfisa) for the band's later albums.

During the Morrison era, Manzarek was the group's regular backing vocalist. He occasionally sang lead, as exemplified by covers of Muddy Waters's "Close to You" (released on 1970s Absolutely Live) and "You Need Meat (Don't Go No Further)" (recorded during the L.A. Woman sessions and initially released as the B-side of "Love Her Madly"). He went on to share lead vocals with Krieger on the albums (Other Voices and Full Circle) released after Morrison's death.

Manzarek married fellow UCLA alumna Dorothy Aiko Fujikawa in Los Angeles on December 21, 1967, with Jim Morrison and his longtime companion, Pamela Courson, as witnesses. Manzarek and Fujikawa remained married until his death. They had a son, Pablo born on August 31, 1973, and three grandchildren. In the early 1970s, the Manzareks divided their time between an apartment in West Hollywood, California, and a small penthouse on New York City's Upper West Side. They subsequently resided in Beverly Hills, California (including ten years in a house on Rodeo Drive) for several decades. For the last decade of his life, Manzarek and his wife lived in a refurbished farmhouse near Vichy Springs, California in the Napa Valley.

In March 2013, Manzarek was diagnosed with a rare cancer called cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) and traveled to Germany for special treatment. During that time he reconciled with Densmore, and he spoke to Krieger before his death. He also performed a private concert for his doctors and nurses. Manzarek was "feeling better" until it took a turn for the worse according to his manager. On May 20, 2013, Manzarek died at a hospital in Rosenheim, Germany, at the age of 74. His body was cremated. Krieger said upon hearing the news of his death, "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today. I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him." Densmore said, "There was no keyboard player on the planet more appropriate to support Jim Morrison's words. Ray, I felt totally in sync with you musically. It was like we were of one mind, holding down the foundation for Robby and Jim to float on top of. I will miss my musical brother."

Greg Harris, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, said in reaction to Manzarek's death that "The world of rock 'n' roll lost one of its greats with the passing of Ray Manzarek." Harris also said that "he was instrumental in shaping one of the most influential, controversial and revolutionary groups of the '60s. On February 12, 2016, at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, Densmore and Krieger reunited for the first time in 15 years to perform in tribute to Manzarek and benefit Stand Up to Cancer. That day would have been Manzarek's 77th birthday. The night featured Exene Cervenka and John Doe of the band X, Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots' Robert DeLeo, Jane's Addiction's Stephen Perkins, Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara and Andrew Watt, among others.

In April 2018, the film Break On Thru: A Celebration of Ray Manzarek and the Doors premiered at the 2018 Asbury Park Music & Film Festival. The film highlights the 2016 concert in honor of what would have been Manzarek's 77th birthday, and new footage and interviews. The film won the APMFF Best Film Feature Award at the festival.
