Binomial name: Rosmarinus officinalis

History: In French antiquity, rosemary was also referred to as incensier because it was often used as an incense.

Characteristics and how to plant it:

Rosemary has aromatic, needle like leaves and grows in a bush. It is popular in culinary. The plant has blue flowers, which bloom in summer. Rosemary likes sandy, well draining soil and a lots of sun (around 7-8 hours of sun per day). The soil must be wet, not dry or over-watered. When planting, it is recommended to grow rosemary from a cutting, not seeds, although you can grow it from a seed, but be aware that you need more seeds than you have been planning to grow- only about 30% of them will come out. Cover them with a thin layer of dirt and give them warmth. It will take around 15-25 days for the sprouts to show up, mine are already growing 😊

Magickal uses:

Used as an incense, it purifies and cleans the place, it wards off negativity and is great before performing magic. It is one of the oldest incenses. Rosemary improves memory and mental function, it is useful in youth spells. 

Put some rosemary under your pillow, it will ward of nightmares and promote good sleep, or drink some rosemary tea (or mix it with lemon balm, chamomile) before you go to bed, it will help you in remembering your dreams. 

Include in kitchen witch spells for love.  Rosemary is, of course, both edible and delicious!  Include it in a red meat dish and bless it for passion.

Wear it during exams at school to improve memory.  The scent of rosemary is believed to enhance a sharp memory.  Include it in a success amulet before an important test or meeting ( pass the tests sachet/amulet here: Pass the exams spell bag )

Plant it by your front door for protection.

Inktober - Day II Couldn't sleep, had to do this little ink-doodle for inktober! Today in the lists was the Rosemary witch and Tranquil themes...
