ShadowRaker: Stay away from my daughter or I'll decapitate you.... autobot...
Tumblr media
(The little dinobot is Vesper, he is the new member of the team bee, he's adopted)
Vesper loves Rose Raker but he have a little problem, her fathers. It doesn't help that he has the reputation of being "Bumblebee's son" (although no specific member of the team bee is his father, but many consider Bee to be his father since he was the one who gave Vesper his name), and ShadowRaker along with MotorMaster still holds a grudge against Bumblebee...

The Black Company: Review
Tumblr media
The Black Company - Glen Cook
“Some feel the Lady, newly risen from centuries in thrall, stands between humankind and evil. Some feel she is evil itself.
The hard-bitten men of the Black Company take their pay and do what they must, burying their doubts with their dead.
Until the prophecy: The White Rose has been reborn, somewhere, to embody good once more.
There must be a way for the Black Company to find her.”
*CONTENT WARNINGS: Blood/Graphic descriptions, R/ape, Torture
The Black Company is a huge group of mercenaries. That’s... that’s all they are. And they become the personal militia of whoever holds their paycheck. In this first novel of the Chronicles of the Black Company, they are sworn into service of “The Lady”, because people can’t have names to be mysterious. (I know the whole “names have power thing” is in this book, but come on... The Lady? That’s the best you can come up with.? Her husband is called the Dominator, their wizards are the Taken. But nooo the Lady. Terrible name.) The Lady and the Taken want to crush the rebellion, because the rebellion doesn’t want to live under the rule of evil bastards like them. But whilst the rebellion is happening, the Black Company are mostly used as pawns for the Taken to kill each other. So while they’re squabbling, the Rebels are looking for a child called the White Rose to kill the Lady, The Dominator, and the Taken. (Because “the chosen child” is totally not overused. Though this book gets a free pass, since it’s actually super old (1984.)) And yeah... that’s the book...
Grading time!
Worldbuilding: 2/5
I found very little world building in this novel. The book starts in the city(country?) Beryl. When it is overthrown by rebels, the company moves north. Don’t know where north, just north. A map would really be helpful... The cities visited get the same treatment. We don’t learn where they are, or their distance in relation to each other. And it’s hard to tell if the city is controlled by the Rebels or the Empire. All the places have names like Roses, Lords, Opal...
There’s also magic in this series, with no explanation of how it works. I couldn’t tell if the creations were illusions or real, and if there was any cost to casting spells. Some wizards are more powerful than everyone else. No idea why. They also never say what the spells DO. They just say “he cast a spell. watch out, she’s casting a spell.” It’s dumb. Some spells need to be spoken, others just use their hands, with no distinction as to what spells need which.
There were a few names I liked, specific locations. Things like “The Stair of Tear” “Cho’n Delor” “Gate of Dawn” “Pillar of Anguish.” These were rare...
Characters/Development: 2/5
None of the characters have names. Yeah. It’s the whole “once you join the company, you leave who you were behind.” And it’s so dumb. I did say before that the “names have power” thing is in this book, but you can seriously make up a name. But noooo, everyone needs to have names that describe them instead. Croaker. Goblin. Silent. One Eye. The Captain. The Lieutenant. Raven. Darling. Whisper. Raker. Limper.
The only people who had cool names were the Taken. And I accept them having fake names, because they worry about each other knowing their names to control them. Soulcatcher. Stormbringer. The Hanged Man. Bonegnasher. Moonbiter. But you don’t learn anything about these guys.
Everyone just feels flat. Like they’re not allowed to show any emotion. And they all want to keep their lives secret. The most expressive person in the book is a 9 year old deaf girl. Characters make or break stories, and these guys felt so fake.
There was also a creature called a forvalaka, a were leopard. It’s only in the book twice. I feel cheated.
Plot: 3/5
The plot could’ve been super interesting, if there was more of it. It honestly felt like this entire book was exposition for the rest of the series. And it wasn’t properly balanced. Combat was glossed over, but their card game “Tonk” was explained in great detail. And the back cover made it seem like the company was activly searching for the White Rose to undermine their boss, but nope. That comes later... I think...
Prose: 3/5
The writing was bland, but not bad. There was a subtlety to it that I actually somewhat enjoyed. Stuff that was described in great detail you can tell is relevant to the plot. Except the card game. I really loath that card game.
Anyways, it’s direct and casual. The story is being told by Croaker, the Annalist. It’s his job to write down the adventures of the Company. So I forgive it for not being epic level prose. I still thought it somewhat lacking though.
Overall rating: 3/5
I wanted to like this book, I really did. I read it because it’s called one of the pioneers of Grimdark fantasy, which intrigued me. But it fell short. The plot, though interesting, was buried deeply beneath politics, stupid names, and lengthy descriptions of the people’s card games.
It started out as evil bastards working for a larger, evil bastard. And I thought that would be really cool, them working for someone they despised. Nope. They seem to enjoy working for the The Lady.
Another thing: it seems like the author kept forgetting he wanted this book to be dark. And since his main characters are assholes, he needed to make the enemy worse assholes so we don’t feel sorry for them. And to do that, he made the rebels take turns r/aping a 9 year old. And then he forgot about that and had a Black Company member r/ape a woman too.
I myself wouldn’t recommend this to my friends. If I didn’t enjoy it, then I highly doubt they would.
There are also quite a few words I didn’t recognize especially in the beginning of the book, so I wouldn’t recommend it for non-native english speakers.
It’s also not for lighthearted people. It is technically a grimdark, which means: blood, gore, torture, r/ape...
I don’t know if I’ll finish the series or not. Whatever I decide, it won’t be part of BaW 2018, just something for my spare time.

Micron Poised to Report Great Results, but the Outlook Matters More

The stock has been hammered in recent months as concerns about memory oversupply began to proliferate. The company should still produce near-record results for the fourth quarter, but earnings could start to fall next year if memory chip prices don’t hold up.
What happened last time
While average selling prices for Micron’s NAND chips dipped in the third quarter, DRAM prices rose by more than 30% year over year. This strong DRAM pricing along with double-digit sales volume growth for both types of memory chips helped Micron surpass analyst expectations.

A slew of downgrades
While analysts are optimistic about Micron’s fourth quarter, many have started to slash their price targets on the stock due to fears of memory chip oversupply. Micron has already started to feel NAND price declines, and DRAM price declines could be in the cards for 2019. Micron stock has tumbled around 25% from its recent high, in part due to these analyst downgrades:
Aug. 9: Morgan Stanley lowered its rating on the entire semiconductor industry to cautious. MS is worried about rising chip-inventory levels and signs of the market overheating.Aug. 15: Wells Fargo maintains an outperform rating on Micron stock, but lowered its price target from $70 to $63. The bank is still optimistic, though, and analyst Aaron Rakers believes the valuation is attractive.Sept. 6: Baird removed Micron as a top semiconductor large-cap idea while slashing its price target from $100 to $75. Baird analyst Tristan Gerra pointed to NAND oversupply, peaking gross margins, and the prospect of DRAM price declines in 2019.Sept. 11: RBC Capital dropped its price target on Micron stock from $83 to $70 in anticipation of headwinds from the memory cycle. Analyst Amit Daryanani expects DRAM prices to weaken next year.Sept. 12: Goldman Sachs knocked down its rating on Micron stock from buy to neutral. Analyst Mark Delaney sees weakness in NAND and DRAM fundamentals, and he points out that downturns are often worse than investors initially expect.Sept. 14: Macquarie lowered its Micron price target from $80 to $70.Sept. 17: Deutsche Bank dropped its Micron price target from $80 to $60 but reiterated a buy rating. The bank lowered its 2019 estimates to factor in weaker prices for NAND and DRAM chips. Deutsche now predicts earnings per share in 2019 will be 20% lower than previously expected.Sept. 17: BMO Capital Markets reiterated a market perform rating but lowered its Micron price target to just $45. Analyst Ambrish Srivastava expects downward estimate revisions to continue as DRAM pricing weakens.
Not everyone became more negative on Micron in the past few months. Analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch kept its $100 price target on the stock after recent positive meetings with Micron’s rivals and equipment vendors. And hedge fund manager David Tepper said he remains “very, very long” Micron on CNBC, citing strong long-term demand trends.
While there’s no consensus on how bad the next downturn in memory chip prices will be, analysts are starting to line up behind the view that Micron will have a tougher time next year.
The outlook is key

That turned out to be completely wrong.” data-reactid=”53″>Micron will very likely come up with impressive fourth-quarter numbers, but investors should pay more attention to what the company says about fiscal 2019. Happy #FlatSharkFriday! Manta Rays are one of the most iconic species in the ocean, and are very popular with diving tourism. There are actually two different species of manta ray: Manta alfredi and Manta birostris. Both species are found in tropical and sub-tropical waters around the world, but M. birostris is a more migratory and open ocean species while M. alfredi tends to remain resident to coastal areas. Manta rays are filter feeders and eat large quantities of zooplankton, which they swallow with their open mouths as they swim. Like whales, these rays will even sometimes breach the ocean surface in dramatic displays, similar to the way whales do. Both manta ray species are currently listed as Vulnerable of extinction by the IUCN Red List. Human threats to these incredible animals include pollution, entanglement in fishing nets, and direct harvesting for their gill rakers for use in Chinese medicine. https://www.instagram.com/theterramarproject Photo: Alexandra Rose/Unsplash #oceanlife #mantaray #flatshark #seahope #VitaminSea #naturealwayswins #elasmobranch #marinebio #conservation

The 23 Best Color Combinations to Incorporate Into Your Designs [Bookmarkable Guide]

The 23 Best Color Combinations to Incorporate Into Your Designs [Bookmarkable Guide]
Tumblr media
We are taught complementary colors in 6th grade, but often, we don’t recognize the significance of color combinations until we see it done wrong.
Maybe you stumble on a website with an absurd mixture of yellow, pink, and black. Or, perhaps your brother decides to wear green pants with an orange shirt. These instances force you to recognize the importance of combining certain colors — and not combining others.
Color combinations have the power to evoke certain emotions, and can even influence our perceptions. But creating beautiful design is more than just ensuring you’re not combining orange with green — it’s also about using the best colors to convey your brand’s message.
Tumblr media
When you’re creating designs for your business, it’s critical you use the best color combinations, but it’s easier said than done. Here, we’ve curated a list of the 23 best color combinations, so you can skip the coworker debates about whether pink and orange work well together, and get straight to the design itself.

The 23 Best Color Combinations to Incorporate Into Your Designs [Bookmarkable Guide]
We are taught complementary colors in 6th grade, but often, we don't recognize the significance of color combinations until we see it done wrong.
Maybe you stumble on a website with an absurd mixture of yellow, pink, and black. Or, perhaps your brother decides to wear green pants with an orange shirt. These instances force you to recognize the importance of combining certain colors -- and not combining others.
Color combinations have the power to evoke certain emotions, and can even influence our perceptions. But creating beautiful design is more than just ensuring you're not combining orange with green -- it's also about using the best colors to convey your brand's message.
When you're creating designs for your business, it's critical you use the best color combinations, but it's easier said than done. Here, we've curated a list of the 23 best color combinations, so you can skip the coworker debates about whether pink and orange work well together, and get straight to the design itself.

@muck-raker said: ok who comes to claim the phone though
@titanium-magic said: Question is, how /did/ Clark end up with Bruce’s phone? 👀👀
When Clark arrives at the coordinates that evening—five minutes early, calculated to be both polite, and realistic for a standard commute from Metropolis—he finds himself standing outside the poshest restaurant he’s ever laid eyes on, horrendously underdressed and utterly bewildered. It’s one of those experimental places, the kind that serves crystallized roses and calls it salad.
The maître d′ raises her brows at him as he enters, but takes his shabby, wind-wrinkled coat and hangs it with the rest, whisking him to a table before he can ask who he’s here to see.
And—there. Sitting at the table, cocky as you please, is Bruce Wayne.
Clark should maybe be less surprised than he is, considering the city and the venue, but as it is he finds himself gaping unattractively down at Wayne, who smirks at him in a blue three-piece suit so deep it may as well be black.
“Please, sit,” Wayne says. “My phone, if you will?”
Clark sits hurriedly, pulling the phone from his jacket pocket with an embarrassed smile. “Here, sorry. I don’t know how in the world it ended up in my coat pocket; there must have been a mix-up with the coat check at the gala the other day.”
Wayne smiles his fox-like smile again, and Clark feels the distinct sensation of something going over his head. “Must have been,” he agrees, taking the phone and tucking it smoothly into his jacket. “While we’re here: dinner? I’m a fan of your work, Mr. Kent, and I’d love to discuss… other opportunities.”
Clark blushes all the way to the tips of his ears. “Clark, please.”
“And you’ll call me Bruce,” Wayne—Bruce replies. “Now, Clark: What’s your opinion of vigilantism?”
Superbat "Call Me Maybe"
Call Me Maybe
“This isn’t my phone.”
Clark stared blankly down at the contraption in his hand, black and shiny and with far too few buttons to actually function, he was sure. He had dabbled with alien technology, grown used to late Kryptonian marvels, but this—this cell phone?—was beyond him.
“Are you sure?” Lois asked, peering over his shoulder. “That—oh, whoa. Is that the new WayneTech? It shouldn’t even be out yet.”
“Maybe? I don’t know. Whatever it is, it definitely isn’t my Motorola.”
The thing that might be a phone buzzed ominously in his hand, and its screen glowed with an Incoming Call: Number Unknown. Clark picked up on reflex—and then almost dropped it, flushing red.
“You have my phone,” said the deepest voice he’d ever heard. “I need it back.”
They rattled off a time and a string of coordinates almost too quickly for even Clark to catch, and then the line was dropped… and Clark was left processing the fact that his evening now involved a trip to Gotham City.
Send me the title & pairing of a fic I’ll never write!
