You're gonna make Rosalyn- WHAT????
Hey, huh, Alu.... About that--- 😅
"Mine, my possession, my obedient little wife who serves my beck and call."
"Did I fucking hesitate?"
"Spit it out, don't be coy at a time like this, arrogant mortal."

"Kind of makes you wonder what bees think of people bringing up their knees all the time, too," if bees were capable of having thoughts about their knees and other people talking about them… which Jason did kind of doubt, but that was probably besides the point. They were bees. "At least mine still work, for the most part," he laughed, flexing his good leg. The bad one, it had its days. Jason let out a low laugh, even though Beck was right: sometimes it was just good to apologize, whether or not you thought someone was upset with you, if you did something, say something. "Oh, I've got money saved," he admitted, lifting his hand to scratch at his beard, "or not really saved so much as just… there, but I figure if nothing else, it's for Rosalyn someday. Or to help Cordelia send her to college or get an apartment or whatever she needs." A beat, then a teasing smile. "Or to go to Tokyo. Me, not her, babies wouldn't enjoy Tokyo."
"The funny thing is, they make movies and TV shows and write books all the time about the world being full of people who are all the same, and it always, always ends badly. And yet we still can't accept and celebrate our diferences. Bizarre, isn't it?" People were stubborn. Or maybe just dumb, to be honest. "Uh, I have no idea," he laughed, shaking his head. "But we could just pretend that it's once a week and see how long it takes for them to catch on." After all, maybe their sisters wouldn't have a clue about when the day was, either. Problem solved. "I've actually never had a child in my yard, except for Rosalyn. Unless you count baby animals."
He laughed, having to give Jace a bit of a hard time. What were friends for if they couldn't give each other shit? "Yeah, when the bee's knees were actually solid." Someday when he inevitably got old, someone would do it to him. He was sure of it. Chuckling proudly, he gave him a playful nudge, "yeah, of course you would've." It was the teenage boy way, after all, unless you were Beck Hartman and spent your teenage years only looking at one. "Hey, it never hurts to give a little extra apology every now and then," he joked. Statistically speaking, he probably did something. "I'm a tempter, it's what I do. You've got until I save up enough to do it, get ready," he said with a wink and a grin.
"Agreed, could you imagine if we were all the same? How lame would that be? I mean, I have a healthy love of myself, but billions of me? The world would burn," he said, laughing at the thought. He needed different, especially people who would go 'is that the best idea?' However, it only sometimes helped. "Damn right, when is that anyway?" The girls were actually way more likely to know when that was, so they may have been out of luck on planting ideas. "Oh, yeah, your garden, of course! Do you hate when kids get in your yard too?"

WESTERN CONTINENT MAP [Trash of the Count’s Family]
(click to enlarge or open in another tab)
So. This is my take on Western Continent map. I based it a bit on what PAN drew for webtoon (chp. 35). Took some inspiration from map posted on TCF wiki by Yatoen. And obviously took all the information about the geography from the novel and wiki.
notes:
this is obviously an assumption about Western Continent as there’s no official map, so take it with grain of salt. Especially Kingdom’s borders as I was just kinda making stuff up; also I’m not cartographer, this is just a for-fun project
in novel only Roan and Paerun have their capitals named, so only those are on the map;
aside form Hais Islands there are no other mentioned islands, but I put a few just for flavor;
there are no rivers mentioned in novel, but I put some for flavor;
i didn’t put on some locations such as territories, because it would be unreadable; but I do have a plan to make more detailed map of Roan
technically The Jungle has sections, but since only three were mentioned in novel and we have no idea how the jungle is devided and how bug sections are, I decided to not put it on.
(i also noticed that western continent sounds so grim with all despairs and death regions, like if I was a traveller if I only had those landmarks named idk if I would travel there lmao)
i also have plan to make ancient powers locations map and indomiatable alliance war -battle map tho, it sounds like fun

"I haven't seen them yet, I'll have to keep an eye out for a cute kid in a jersey," he said, not at all surprised that Cordy had done that and would like continue to do that. He'd gotten to spend a little time with Rosalyn at the Beach Bash, and he wouldn't mind getting to hang out with the mini Cordy more. He nodded at Jace's question, "yeah, a little bit. Soccer was my thing, but after a couple years, I got tired of the monotony of organized sport...and I had a girlfriend I preferred spending my time with instead. I think I played freshman year and that was about it." Merrock had more to offer than doing the same thing year after year. "It's kind of hard to imagine you in high school, but what was your thing?" Maybe it was because he left when Beck was so young, but he was like Maggie Smith, Julie Andrews, or Patrick Stewart, you just couldn't imagine them as young people. "Happiness is the health. Grease-induced endorphins and all that," he suggested as if this were legitimate science...or that he'd been all that good at science at all.
"They do put the work in," he looked over his shoulder at where the game was still being played on the field, before turning his attention back to where they were standing in line, shrugging one shoulder, "but yeah, and Cordelia went all out, she's got Rosalyn in a jersey even, it's pretty cute," and knowing his sister, it would be a thing every Friday night, home or away. And whenever Jason didn't work, he would find himself tagging along, because that was what big brothers did. And he did enjoy it. "Did you ever play sports in high school?" he asked, trying to imagine Beck in a jersery, or lacing up his cleats. "Happiness, sure, but the other stuff, the healthy stuff…" he let out a low whistle, shaking his head, "maybe not so much."

Irish women at the controls-a short of list of some of the DJ’s
Following on from the excellent This Greedy Pig article by Emily Carson on Irish women in electronic music, it struck me from the discussion that followed that there seemed to be a sense here that women have only recently made inroads here in this regard. The reality couldn’t be further from the truth and in Ireland women have played an important part behind the decks over the years. The history may not have always been documented but it runs deep. Down here in Cork there was one stage where I can vividly remember around the turn of the millennium a few male hip-hop dj’s lamenting that they were not getting a chance, as there were so many women getting gigs! How times have changed! Overall I’m going to provide a brief list of women who I know personally who’ve made an impact here, mainly from the djing point of view though there are many more who produce music too and are involved in other realms. (Edit: i’m adding producers now too). It’s not a comprehensive list and it will be mainly focused on my field (soulful music with a few exceptions) and confined to those mainly who I know or have worked with. (Edit; the list is expanding now more additions coming). This means it’s pretty cork centric too, where there’s always been loads of female djs active. Anyway the list is just a tip of the iceberg, and if other women are looking for inspiration, there are some great examples here.
There’s a lot of debate surrounding lack of women on festival line-ups and house and techno are particularly male dominated, though again, two of the biggest Irish festival slots last year were held by women. Annie Mac is probably the best known DJ in the whole country and she’s arguably the biggest name in the UK too. She played a saturday night main stage set at Longitude last July and was the only DJ to do so. Meanwhile Jenny Greene proved to be a huge highlight at the Electric Picnic, where her 90s dance orchestral show first showed that it could be an arena filler. She’s sold out her forthcoming Live at the Marquee show in no time. But a recent twitter conversation started by Nialler9 highlighted that some festivals have only a few women, and that Annie and Jenny are more often than not the exception rather than the rule.
DJing is a male dominated activity, but look a bit deeper and there are examples aplenty of women making an impact here. Please add to this list and pardon me for forgetting so many more. I’ve left out many who are known primary in other fields (e.g. radio DJs such as Nicki Hayes, Lilian Smith and Louise Mac Sharry, artists such as Maeve Murphy, Elaine Mai, Laoise etc) I kept it to mainly DJ’s too rather than producers, of whom there are many many more. (Edit: i’ll be adding more producers but i’ll keep radio off it for now). It’s a male dominated activity but it’s good to shine a light on many of those who some of you might not know, aswell as the big names too. I’ll be adding to the list too when i get a chance. This list aims to highlight those making an impact and i’m not for one minute saying that women don’t face big obstacles breaking into a male dominated industry. But those who do are many and here’s a few who deserve your attention
EDIT Loads more additions made and more to come!
Annie Mac
The Dubliner is Irelands (and arguably the UKs) best known DJ, and her radio show is massively popular and influential.
Jenny Greene Hugely popular 2FM DJ who’s RTE Concert orchestra gigs are selling out time after time these days, Jenny is a big draw throughout Ireland in clubs and now arenas.
ELLLL Brilliant Cork producer and DJ who’s Romance EP drew lots of favour last year, ELLLL has already appeared on Boiler Room and she spearheads the Gash Collective of female artists. Also one half of WRYMYRRH with Irene Buckley.
Irene Buckley Composer who is very busy writing for theatre , dance and film, providing improvised electronics in WRYMYRRH with ELLLL, and playing with the sublime Crevice too

If it’s hard for women to breakthrough it’s fair to say it’s harder for black women to breakthrough in an industry dominated by white males. Dublin based Souletiquette co-founder has no such problems though just look at the numbers her soundcloud mixes are hitting.
Susie K Little is known about Susie outside Cork, but she was my DJ partner at the influential Jam Junior in the savoy for many years, playing to over 800 or 900 every time. She started doing these teenage gigs in Sir Henrys at only about 12 or 13 years of age and remains highly respected here.

NOTE:
Executive Stevie has been very helpful in highlighting many of those who may not be so well known. He tells me about some more women at the controls; "Studio B didn't DJ, but herself and another woman Beatnik ran a night called Studio B that was pretty highly regarded back in the day. Jenni Junglist has been plugging away doing Jungle gigs in Dublin for a few years now. Nicky Halliday and Rosie Loopz are both still playing out, and K.Ska is one of the better Jungle DJ's in the country but she has taken a bit of a break from playing out what with having a young child. Debbie Happe, who used to hammer out the techno at Joe McGrath's nights in about the 2000 era. Liz Meade was a Power FM stalwart back around then too"

Will global warming change Native American religious practices?
http://bit.ly/2vI8zoG
What does the shrinking of the Colorado River mean for Native American religions? Ken Lund, CC BY-SA
The Colorado River, one of the longest rivers in the United States, is gradually shrinking. This is partly a result of overuse by municipalities and seasonal drought. The other reason is global warming.
The decline in the river reservoir will have serious implications for large U.S. cities, such as Los Angeles, that depend on the Colorado River as their water source. In addition, this will also have an impact on the Native American tribes who view the Colorado River as sacred to their religions.
As Ka-Voka Jackson, a member of the Hualapai tribe and a graduate student working to address climate change on the Colorado River and restoring native plant species along its banks, stated,
“The Colorado River is so sacred not just to my tribe, but to so many others.”
As a scholar of Native American religions and the environment, I understand how indigenous people’s religions and sacred places are closely tied to their landscape. For the past 100 years, indigenous peoples have been forced to adapt to changes in their environments and modify their religious rituals in the United States. The U.S. government made certain Native American religious practices illegal in the 19th and early 20th century. Although these policies have since been rescinded, they led to changes in many indigenous practices.
Global warming, however, is different. The question is whether indigenous people will be able to adapt their beliefs all over again due to the impact of global warming on the natural world.
Adapting to change
The Blackfeet tribe in Montana brought changes in their relationship with the natural world as a result of the policies of the U.S. government from the 1880s to the 1930s.
For example, the Blackfeet purposefully moved religious ceremonies from one time on their liturgical calendar to completely different times to avoid the U.S. government penalizing native people for dancing or participating in religious ceremonies.
The Blackfeet moved their annual O’kan, or sundance festival, from late summer (usually held at the end of August) to the Fourth of July celebration. They avoided U.S. government punishment by masking their ceremonies within state-sanctioned public events.
Policies related to the mining of natural resources and damming of rivers on indigenous lands have also led to changes in Native Americans’ religious practices.
Historian David R. M. Beck interviewed elders and researched how the Menominee tribe in Wisconsin adapted to the loss of their sacred fish, the sturgeon, after a paper mill built a dam across the Wolf River.

The sturgeon disappeared after the dam was built in 1892, because they could no longer swim upstream to spawn. For over 100 years, the Menominee tribal members continued to pray and conduct their annual “returning of the sturgeon” ceremony in the spring – even though there were no more sturgeon in the river. The Menominee ultimately won the right to return the sturgeon to the Wolf River in 1992 and the tribe revitalized the full ceremony and celebration of their sacred fish.
In all these situations, Native American tribes learned to adapt to the challenges placed before them, modify their religious practice and embrace a different relationship with the natural world.
Global warming and religion
When it comes to global climate change, it affects everyone, not just specific groups in specific places. But for many indigenous peoples, natural resources are closely linked to religious beliefs and practices.
Historically, indigenous peoples used the natural seasonal cycles of weather, plants and animals as part of their liturgical or religious calendar. The Blackfeet held their annual “beaver bundle ceremony” in the early spring as ice melted off rivers and beavers returned to the open waters. In Blackfeet mythology, a beaver served as a deity who taught humans how to cultivate tobacco, which the tribe used for important religious ceremonies and as a peace offering to their enemies.
What would the movement of beavers mean? Bryn Davies, CC BY-NC-ND
There are signs, though, that beavers are now moving north due to global warming. Biologists are currently studying both beavers and the birch and alder shrubs that beavers eat, as both move north into new regions. Scientists worry that as a keystone species, the movement of beavers will change the northern ecosystems as they cut off waterways and build beaver dams. And shrubs will change the local waterways that they grow by. This will affect local animal species.
What will happen when there are no more beaver in Blackfeet territory? Will their religious traditions adapt similar to the Menominee when they faced the loss of their sacred sturgeon?
Religion and resiliency
From the arctic tundra to the American desert southwest, and places worldwide, indigenous peoples will be facing the impact of global climate change.
Regarding the shrinking of the Colorado River, researchers Brad Udall and Jonathan Overpeck have concluded that, “Failing to act on climate change means accepting the very high risk that the Colorado River basin will continue to dry up into the future.”
If this river faces a drier future, it will likely affect the Mojave, a people indigenous to the Colorado River basin, who believe the river was created by their ancient deity Mastamho as part of their sacred landscape.
As the G-20 convenes in Germany this week to discuss global issues including climate change, indigenous scholars, such as myself, are wondering what the future holds for indigenous peoples, their environments and their religions.
Indigenous communities can be resilient and adapt their internal religious beliefs to outside challenges, as Native American tribes from the turn of the 20th century have proven. Climate change presents yet another challenge.

It takes a village, as they say, and Beck wanted to be part of Rosalyn's life like all the influences he'd had growing up here. He could pick out a few downsides to small town living, but this wasn't one of them. It was his favorite part, having an even bigger family in a way. "Crystal," he said with a grin, before laughing as she brought up his sisters, "they'll either do that or they'll help him, depending on their mood. The Great Merrock Massacre of 2023...or Beck who?" He nodded as she told her side of the story, which is basically what Jace had said. He got what she meant about not really having family. Even with found family amongst fellow Merrockites, it's different when the bond is blood. He was glad to see her and Jace building theirs back up. "He seemed real excited about it, obviously thinks the world of you and Tiny," he said, splashing a little water on said mini's legs. "The Cliffs," he answered, "I know, shocking we ran into each other outside. We had a beer and talked about women and sisters, Yellowstone and Tokyo." Helping Rosalyn up, he took both of her little hands so he could steady her on the board. "Look at that, a natural," he commented, even if he was doing 95% of the work to keep the board and the child as still as possible. As he got a big smile from the little girl, he said, "she looks so much like you, it's crazy."
Honestly, she was thrilled that so many in town cared about each other, their kids, and were always there to lend a hand or keep things exciting. If there was one thing Cordelia wanted was for Rosalyn to enjoy the water as much as she did, and had, growing up. To not fear it, but she knew that meant needing to respect it too. "At least you got a clear picture." she laughed, "Don't worry you could rest easily knowing your sisters would probably get Cage back for gutting you? Maybe... guess it depends." she teased. "Oh yeah, he moved back a few months ago, was a surprise to me too. Just kind of ran into him. There he was." she said, obviously they had been working through things and were forming a quite close bond together. "I am, it's weird to not really have family." Everyone knew of Cordelia's situation regarding her parents, but now she had family that wasn't the family she was making with Cage but her actual siblings. Which honestly made things a lot better these days. "Where'd you run into him at?"

"Nah, just hurt my feelings a little bit," Beck quipped. It took a lot to do either of those things for real, but he could still joke about it. "I couldn't agree more, no offense to the kids working their ass off on the field though," he said with a bit of a chuckle, even if he did sit and watch some of it with his friends in between all the other things a game had to offer. "Ah, Colton's playing? Sweet! Oh, well, hey, he's farther than some of us got." He shrugged, "the benefits of happiness are scientifically documented, and have you ever been sad eating a really greasy burger?"

Beck was excited to get to spend a little time with the latest Browning. He didn't have a lot of experience with kids this small, except the ones that came through the Lighthouse but even that wasn't much. It was kind of fun. "Gutted like a fish, message received," he replied with a laugh, though it wouldn't be funny if he really broke her. Keeping a hand on Rosalyn to make sure she didn't fall off while they floated on the board, he said to Cordy, "Jace. I haven't seen that dude since I was like 4, didn't recognize him at first. Talked a lot about you and the kiddo here, actually. I bet you're glad to have him around again, huh?"
She knew that he didn't know Rosalyn all that well but she was a toddler that loved to make friends wherever she went. That meant she had no problem with her being around her friends siblings. It wasn't like she didn't know Beck from being the little brother of Liv and Mandy. "Yeah, yeah. You break it, you better go into hiding and I don't even mean from me. Cage would probably kill you." she said, and she probably wasn't lying about that. Helping to get her set up onto the board she went back to floating herself in the water as Rosalyn splashed her hands into the water. "Who?"

It was kinda surreal to see Cordy as a mother, remembering the days of her coming over to hang with his older sisters. She had like a decade on him, but he wasn't sure any of them should be grown up enough to be parenting. Maybe you had that shit figured about by your 30's. "'Course she does," he replied, knowing that was exactly how she should be. "You break it, you bought it, I got it," he promised in his funny little way she may or may not find funny, so he rephrased, "I'll be careful. Set her up here and we'll just float for a bit. Guess who I saw the other day?"

Having Rosalyn with her for the beach party was something she knew she'd do for one of the days. After all, it wouldn't be right not to bring her along for some of the fun, but she also knew there had to be balance and she also wanted to make sure that she was safe. Though Rosalyn was getting swimming lessons and in little floaties to keep her safe she still watched her like a hawk behind her sunglasses as they splashed in the water close to the shore. Glancing up at the familiar voice she pushed her glasses up on her face spotting Beck, "I mean she loves the water." No surprise there, "Okay but you have to be really careful okay?" Not that she thought he wouldn't but it was still her little girl.
WHO: Beck & @cordeliaeli WHERE: Swimming Beach WHEN: Saturday, August 26th
Beck brought both his surfboard and paddle board because this was about doing everything possible in a one weekend timespan. Spotting Cordelia and her mini me splashing in the water, he paddled over. "Hey, Cordy," he greeted as he lowered himself down to sit on his board with his feet in the submerged sand, "think the mini would want to get on? Gotta start her early, right?"
