I liked that Rosalie unexpectedly answered the question about Threnn in Chapter 10. I thought she would avoid it, and as a reader, I love being pleasantly shocked by your narrative choices.

I wondered whether:

Astarion said Finn on purpose and he actually knew

This isn't the first time that Rosie's exposed that she's a langauge savant - early on, it was a big deal that she was a sorta scribe in Ancient Infernal. I had considered earlier and thought it was an author's whim such that she could read Astarion's scars, but now that Rosalie's spoken Elvish to Astarion, it feels like a plot point.

Also, when I realised Ser Verity's name is Severity, I sort of crossed my eyes and was giggly - annoyed at myself for not picking it up sooner! Can't believe you managed to keep such a good joke under wraps and pull it out like that, right under my nose!

hi nashi! sorry for taking a while to reply to this, i was away over the weekend following my thesis deadline :)

My replies are:

in every timeline in every universe, Astarion knows Threnn's actual name and is deliberately getting it wrong

D&D is a system where a person can learn an insane number of languages with the right background and feats. I, as a player, always try to learn as many languages as possible (currently playing a warlock with only Infernal, and it hurts my fucking soul). Rosalie was an agoraphobic wizard with no social life and nothing to do for nearly three years, and she sure as hell wasn't learning spells. I decided to combine these three things to make a character. She had four languages (common, infernal, ancient infernal, elvish) before the agoraphobia, then she picked up a fuck-tonne of new hobbies. I also tried to deliberately pick languages that relate to each other, (eg. deep speech having no written language so I argue they use elvish script) bc this reflects the realities of language acquisition in real life.

...I'm going to be so honest with you, I wasn't the one who realised Ser Verity was Severity. I have a friend, who's cat is called Sir Vinegar, and I wanted to honour my godson. I then tell my friend: "I named a cat after him lol". She turns round and says "oh, that's a cool pun for a wizard cat, like Severity!" Me: shocked pikachu face. and thus, her punny name was born. the secret to keeping a good joke under wraps is not realising you've made it ;)

now for the kids, we first have the main guitarist zack.

zack attack could have a bunch of pokemon, but ludicolo or something is just goofy and is also quite rhythmic

or he could get a pokemon like theivul due to him being arrested for stealing guitars which is kinda ironic when you think about it

katie says like 8 words total in the movie (count every word she says in the entire runtime) so she's probably got a hidden legendary or mythical so katie gets meloetta

(this IS about the musical versions of people, but katie BARELY gets any solo lines in the musical too, i think it's a total of around 3 and that's including SOLO song lines)

alright, I could phone it in and give freddy a rillaboom because are you kidding me they're both drummers-

freddy is a bit erratic isnt he? hes gotta have a fast pokemon and boltund is kinda boring so were going with manectric

alright, last but certainly not least, mr cool.

he's known to be socially awkward for at least part of the musical (at least i think he is, he says one of the reasons why he doesnt think he should be part of the band is because his only friend is tomika who doesnt speak) so i think a pokemon like slowbro would fit cause slowbro would remind him to calm down and NOT roast dewey (yeah he was told to do so but DAMN)

although maybe he'd want a pokemon like chatot to talk to

or maybe at the end of the musical he'd want a growlithe

summer hathaway would have a gardevoir because I said so also look at gardevoir and it's commanding aura and TELL me summer would not wanna help ralts become big and strong

haha, i know what you're gonna say, squawkabilly and stuff, but really, FURFROU. also, vivillon is so cool looking and it has so many designs so yeah

mason/mary would have an organised chaos pokemon, but since that doesn't exist they're getting the next best thing, porygon-2 due to me liking its design more

here's the big one, TOMIKA. now, there's a ton I could give, hell, I could even give chatot to her too, but there's a few I have in mind, mainly altaria due to it having a beautiful soprano voice. tomika isn't like HIGH high pitched but she's able to do that kinda pitch I believe (b/c of what dewey says in parents night, unless that's about marcy/shonelle, one sec)

(uhh its not in the script but I remember dewey saying something about I THINK tomika being able to hit a note that's real difficult to hit)

she gets primarina since she's the lead singer kinda (dewey also)

marcy and shonelle could likely have a duo, but there really aren't any duo pokemon besides non vocals related duos and I don't wanna do repeats so I'll be back

wigglytuff and skeledirge also wow there are more singing starters than you'd expect

the final one I'll do for now is rosalie, who would just have eevee, until dewey brought her back a bit, at which point it would become a jolteon in an ideal world but if jolteon has mood swings she'd want something like a pikachu or mareep

if it was pikachu it'd become the partner pikachu and be able to learn some real cool moves, and mareep is just so fluffy

Howie takes Gordy's hand to stand and steps into his matching slippers. Eevee and Pikachu. The arguments he had had with Gordy over the years about who was who... and now, he's just happy to be able to have someone to share matching slippers with. He grabs one of the blankets from his makeshift bed. It may be the middle of August, but it's still half past two in the morning, and if they're going to sneak downstairs like a pair of teenagers having a sleepover, they're going to do it right.

Armed with a duvet, an extra hoodie, and his plush Eevee slippers, Howie follows his cousin throughout the eerie dark of the house so as not to wake up any of the other inhabitants - especially not the younger ones. The last thing they want is to have Diana or Rosalie wide awake, complaining that they're allowed to use the telly in the middle of the night but she isn't. Moira and Chloe get it. Somehow, amidst everything, they get it. And Ed and Kate understand more than Howie will ever know.

They creep downstairs, and Howie has to take extra care not to trip on the bottom step like he always does. There's a different number of steps here than there are at home. Gets him every time. "D'you remember which pizzas we've got left?" The margherita will almost certainly be gone, so he'll be picking toppings off regardless.

Gordy's curse is that he wants - needs - to know what happened in those three weeks. He's always been curious about things, always craved answers and explanations, but this? Seeing just how shaken Howie is? He can leave the subject alone until such a time his cousin is ready to talk about where he'd been and what had happened --- he can just be quiet and supportive and there for Howie until his cousin doesn't need him to be anymore.

"Okay?" He smiles a bit, glad to have been able to find a relatively good distraction so quickly. "Yeah! If you're hungry, we can definitely have the leftovers from the fridge. I think there's still pizza and cake in there." Mum and Dad won't mind, he's pretty sure. "If that's what you want to do, that's what we'll do."

But first, their hot chocolate. Gordy stands and slips on his Pikachu slippers, offers his hand to pull Howie up too. "---Let's just hope that the girls don't wake up and want to join in, because I don't think there's that much leftover pizza." And honestly, he doesn't need the distractions they'll bring if he's going to play Portal with an audience.

His breathing is shaky as he tries to bring himself back to reality. He's in London. In Ed and Kate's house. In Gordy's room. They had decent night, playing games and eating pizza like they used to do as teenagers. Diana proudly presented him with a new loom band bracelet and Rosalie had been banging on about how excited she was because the new Twilight film was coming out in a few months. It was all normal. It was all good.

In for four. Hold for four. Out for eight. Howie tries to slow his breathing. He's here. He's with his cousin. He's safe. He's in control. He leans into Gordy, resting his head on his cousin's shoulder as the aftermath passes. The dim light of the lamp illuminates the childhood bedroom with a soft, warm glow. Howie's eyes dart around the room, looking for something to focus on until they land on his and Gordy's slippers. Pikachu and Eevee. A matching set they'd gotten each other as a gag gift for Christmas.

He runs his hands over his face and shakes his head. "No-- No, you don't have to-- don't bother them." In for four. Hold for four. Out for eight. "I just... I'll be alright in a minute. Sorry. Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you up."

All Gordy knows is that Howie had disappeared without a trace for three weeks, and when he'd come back, he'd been so obviously shaken by whatever it was that he'd seen wherever he'd gone, that Gordy couldn't do much more than hug him as fiercely as he could manage. He'd suggested his cousin stay over as he had done countless times before, set up a makeshift bed on the floor next to his own bed, and they'd settled down to sleep ( albeit quite a bit quieter than usual ).

And now it's the middle of the night, and Gordy's wide awake, listening to Howie struggle through a dream.

He's off his bed the moment his cousin suddenly wakes, rolling onto the floor beside the ersatz bed with a soft thump, one hand reaching out to touch Howie's shoulder in a silent I'm here, this is real kind of gesture, the other reaching out to snap his beside lamp on so that his room isn't quite so dark. We're safe here, he promises, though he has absolutely no grounds to do so.

"Yeah, mum and dad are down the hall. D'you want me to get them?" Because he will, if that's what Howie wants - there's no shame in wanting the reassuring presence of an adult in situations such as these. "You're okay." Shifting a bit, Gordy slips an arm around his cousin, holds him close. "We're okay."
