Two Minutes That Changed History
A bomb planted by the Irish Republican Army exploded at 2:54 a.m. on October 12, 1984. It was the last day of the Conservative Party Conference at the Grand Hotel in the coastal town of Brighton, England. Rooms were obliterated, dozens of people wounded, five killed. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was in her suite when the explosion occurred; had she been just a few feet in another direction,…

As an adult, I don't read much anymore. My ADHD makes it really hard to focus on, but I've found that for some reason reading in bars works for me. Something about the ambient noise and often low light creates the right combination of stimuli for me to be able to focus.
I was assigned to read this book for a class in college and never finished it, so over the past year or so I've been trying to finish it. It's an interesting perspective on Hugo Chávez's impact on the nation of Venezuela.

Chai Hansen and Sam Reid as Tim Ahern and Dale Jennings in The Newsreader’s S02E05 - A Model Daughter ❤️
.
.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim Ahern hasn’t worked for News At Six for well over a year. His new job as a doco cameraman has terrible pay, but he’s made the most of his new life. It might seem funny that he was here at the News At Six Christmas party tonight, but it’s a great chance to catch up with old mates. None of which he was more keen to see than Mr Golden Newsman himself, Dale Jennings. Whenever he mentions that he worked for News At Six to anyone, that’s all they ask about. Dale, Helen, the Golden Couple of News. He sees them on billboards all the time. He’s happy for them, happy for Dale that he got what he wanted, and he let Dale know this.
Tumblr media
It’s at the party that he got to meet Dale’s new friend, network star Gerry Carroll. Gerry is bold and brave, and as they started making plans for going to Club 397 after the party, Tim was hesitant of Gerry’s suggestion to take Dale with him. Tim has known Dale for longer and knows Dale’s sensibilities more, in that respect. Club 397 not his sort of place; and it certainly isn’t relaxed at all. Tim would know this, he goes there every week. He left for the club; Gerry and Dale in tow, feeling uneasy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim’s instincts were right. Dale wasn’t quite himself, and it wasn’t just the effects of the alcohol that he was consuming at an alarming rate. He was newly single, which came as a surprise to Tim. Things weren’t as golden for the Golden Couple as he thought. Dale was in such a raw emotional state, and Tim realised immediately that he had to look after him. He refused any more drinks, and kept his eyes glued to his friend. Someone needed to keep an eye on him.

As Dale dragged Tim onto that dance floor and made his move on him, he couldn’t reciprocate. Dale was in no headspace to consent, and Tim wasn’t going to take advantage of this. It wouldn’t be right. When his and Gerry’s interventions to get Dale out for some fresh air were met with resistance from Dale, Tim could only watch Dale from a distance, heartbroken to see his old friend in such a state. It was too close for comfort, and too close for joy.

A Trail of Blood in their Wake
a gift for my friend @thedeafprophet !! it's their OC Rory's birthday today, and I think at this point I can admit I have a pretty clear favorite among them! I had some sudden inspiration for this a week or so ago and went into a bit of an artistic frenzy getting it done, and i had a fantastic time!! This piece takes up two entire pages, something I've never done before!! Trust me when i say that this thing is Massive!

The Newsreader Season 2
Ok so it took me an actual 3 weeks to get a hold of the season and watch it.
According to what I had seen on Tumblr I was literally expecting more news (as opposed to the amount in season 1) and a lot of Dale going through it
But boy was I wrong... I mean yeah Dale was definitely going through it, but why is it that Tumblr only posts wholesome shit? Like fuck, Dale literally became evil this season and y'all were dropping babygirl posts about him
This man backstabbed one of the few people who supported him, lost his will to live, and sold his soul to the industry all in the span of 3 episodes
I love him but holy fuck this guy needs to go on holiday.
Also, there aren't enough posts about how iconic Helen's walk-off was.

A promotional image of Rory Fleck Byrne as Gerry Carroll with his Tony Bartuccio Dancers from Decision 87 🌟

It still brings me so much joy that our second season opened up with a song and dance number. Watching Gerry and his dancers sing and dance to Aretha Franklin and George Michael's 'I Knew You Were Waiting For Me' was a joyous way to welcome in the season, after waiting two years for it. I now cannot listen to the song without thinking about Gerry!
Tumblr media
Did you know that we weren't initially going to have a song and dance number to open the season? In a tweet that Michael Lucas wrote on the day Decision 87 first aired, he mentions that it wasn't present in early drafts of the episode script, however it was the suggestion to include the line "please thank the Tony Bartuccio Dancers" as an off-screen announcement from Emma Freeman that allowed for this nerdy joy to escalate beautifully! If you enjoyed the musical number, you have Emma Freeman to thank. What a legend! 👸🏻
Tumblr media
It just happened to be a perfect nod to some real Australian pop culture history too. The variety show host Don Lane used to have the Tony Bartuccio Dancers on his Don Lane show, which went from 1975 to 1983. In this picture (a screengrab from a video uploaded by Oz Kitsch on their Twitter and Tik Tok pages) you can see Don with the dancers in his rendition of Billy Joel's 'Tell Her About It' from 1983. Look at that Lycra costuming glory! I love it! 😂
Tumblr media
There are a few similarities between Gerry Carroll and Don Lane (1933 - 2009); both entertainers living in Australia who came from overseas, Gerry from Ireland and Don from America. They both host variety shows in the 1980s and they both love to include song and dance numbers in their programmes! The more you dig into Australian pop culture and history from the 1980s, the more you realise how bloody clever the showmakers of The Newsreader have been in their commitment to the era. Locate a cheesy 80s song and dance number to listen to today! 😉💖🎶🌟📺
