A simple talk with my old high school best friend.

Have you ever felt uneasy during this time of pandemic? I bet yes, and I also bet that it comes from different reasons. I know it is not easy for us to deal with our negative stuff because of the circumstances that we have right now. Most of the time we feel like we are being forced to do those things alone. But hold your horses, and don't be drowned from sadness and loneliness. There are many things you can do to convert those anxious feelings. You can read inspiring books, learn new things, watch your favorite series, and many more.

One of the good effects of this pandemic for me was I had the opportunity to communicate again with my old friends who I did not have time to talk to when everything was still normal. I know you also experienced this, and I know that you also felt happy for acquiring that moment. Having someone to talk to especially from an old good friend is very exciting. You both reminisce the past, and from that very moment, you will also start to cure yourself of uneasiness.

 Last weekend, I had this opportunity to meet my old high school best friend. She asked me if I want to have lunch with her and talk in a cup of hot coffee. It was very rainy noon, but I had this feeling that I need to meet and catch up with her. So, I immediately take a bath and travel to the mall where she was. We did eat in a pizza parlor for lunch and go to a coffee shop for a drink. In that simple event, I managed to learn five things why is it important to talk with someone about this pandemic. I know it's a bit risky for some to go outside and meet with friends. We just make sure we maintained social distancing at all times.

 1. I manage to get updated and learn new things about my friend.

 Most of the time, a good conversation starts from a heart-to-heart talk. The last time I talked with her this seriously was from the time I don't even remember. It's very nice to learn new things and get updated to this special someone from the past. It's like you are opening a good old book and discover things that you can add to your growth. I can say that having this conversation was far better than looking on her social media profile. Most of the time our friends don't like to post their personal experiences so talking with them personally is much heartfelt and genuine.

 2. I become more understanding.

 When you learn something, you understand it. That is the purpose of learning. This conversation with my friend helped me to understand where she was coming from. Currently, I am working in a call center company as a quality officer. I listen to calls and markdown wrongdoings of our agents. One of their most common mistakes was their inability to have empathy for our customers issues. Empathy is important because it helps us understand how others are feeling so we can respond appropriately to the situation. If we have this soft skill, we can understand others deeply, and we can share the right words to help them feel comfortable and validated.

 3. I did confess the things that happened to me.

 A catch-up conversation will never be good if you will not share what you experienced from the past. Communication means sending and receiving information therefore, it is also important for us to share what's bugging our emotions. You are not there just to sit down and listen to your friend's issues in life while enjoying your freshly brewed coffee. You are also there to share your collected loneliness and happiness from your closet. In that catch-up conversation with my dear old friend, I manage to tell her some of my secrets. I thought she will judge me, but I was wrong. She did share her support and comfort. I treat it now as a miracle, and I felt like a fishbone was taken out of my heart. I felt peace. I felt acceptance.

 4. I become friendlier.

 I know I will forever cherish this experience with her. This very simple event of our lives will help us understand the reason why we need to keep moving forward. I become friendlier because I manage to understand things about my friend but from different perspectives. Now, I have this eagerness to always be that kind of person if my other friends will also need my ears and thoughts. It's nice to have friends that make you grow for the better.

 5. I felt more loved.

 Love is the center of all relationships. Whether it's for our family, friends, or romantic someone. Love is the same always and forever. In this conversation, the love for my friend was the key factor for us to keep on learning, to understand more, to confess, and to be friendlier. It is the reason why our conversation with those special people will take many hours. Love is important for a close relationship with those people we trust.

 Connecting again with people who are always there to support our emotional stress is a big opportunity to survive these trying times. As me and my old high school best friend depart from each other and take our own ways, I realized that this pandemic only separates us physically from each other. If we remain compassionate enough to spend a little of our time to those who needs it, we can surely save a wondering soul. God gave us this reason why communication is important. By this, we can express more our humanity. This is what God wants us to do. This pandemic may be a hardship for many, but this situation will also help us to know who are those people that are true to us. Let’s treat them like a treasure and keep them forever.

Here are the realizations for today; •Chivalry is dead - some men are cold-hearted even to the old women. I think because in this world today, women and men can just do exactly the same. I can't say I'm disappointed, I sort of know that this will happen. I just wish though, that a little care would do. •We're slaves of this world. We follow the patterns of this world, we're rushers, we are corporate slaves, we're trying to make ends meet most of the time. •We always seem to work to be able to live this life.  But this doesn't mean living anymore, it seems like we're just surviving. Maybe it's not really bad, but, hey, I need a BREAK from all this hustles of life. I need to breath. • If you want to be happy, just think happy, even when problems are piling up. Just try to be happy. Happiness is a state of mind, not what you always see around like people's social media posts, nor their luxurious life and numbers of followers and likes or even Stories. Happiness is innate. Sometimes looking at the sky and listening to songs while on a long ride can trigger the happy hormones. Stop comparing the pretend happiness you can see in the society to your own.
