Ghilan'nain and Elgar'nan had commentary on my (Warden) Rook dating Davrin. Six of the seven companions haven't had anything to say (only Emmrich, the sweetheart!), but damned if the MAIN VILLAINS don't take notice.

Of course, the absolutely gruesome threat then leads to the most stone cold badass reads of Davrin and Rook's game. After plotting to corrupt Davrin to make him crave griffon flesh, a disgusted Davrin notes coldly, "Let them try", while Rook threatens both in ambient that "If they touch you, death will be the least of their problems". How is the most intense lines in this game a random triggerable audio in the Crossroads?!?!

I've been playing Dragon Age since it's initial release in 2009 with Origins. Yeah, that long. 15 years.

Never in my time did I experience a premise so good (mind link/bond + enemies to allies to...), and chemistry so believable (verbal quips?) as whatever it is that's happening between Rook and Solas.

Bioware really created a situation where it would make all the sense in the world that these two characters would romance it up... and then just said, nah, here have these mediocre alternatives for a romance instead.

just the way that Rook and Davrin look at each other in the bedroom (aquarium?) scene near the end of Dragon Age Veilguard i can write 1002 fics just based off of these two caps.

Edit to add: These two match each other's freak x1000 Rook is getting excited at the idea of tomb raiding and beating up people while STRADDLED ATOP THAT MAN and he's DOWN for this crazy warden lady's schemes and chaotic violence-for-the-greater-good wholly and fully

Okay but imagine being Lucanis and going through thirty-something years of life reading romance novels and seeing other people fall in love and never experiencing that yourself so you just sort of accept that it won't happen for you and so you focus on being Grandma's #1 Assassin. Next thing you know you're being broken out of a torture prison by a walking hurricane of an individual and suddenly all those feelings you've read about start to happen. Which would be great if wasn't for the literal demon in your head declaring that they too like this person (platonically or otherwise, it doesn't matter). So now you don't know if your feelings are actually your feelings or if they're some sort of demon side effect because no amount of Crow training prepared you for this shit.

All I'm saying is it's not surprising Lucanis barely flirts with Rook until after Inner Demons, it's not just because he's bad at it (which he definitely is but in a sort of endearing way), but because until that point he doesn't know if his feelings are his own.
