Sorry (not) but I find anyone who acts like Blue is making something out of nothing when she’s mad Adam’s first question is about the kissing to be like. Deeply suspicious. Of course she is mad that’s the first thing he asked her! They’ve been walking on eggshells around each other and not really communicating since the last aborted kiss attempt which is on both of them to some degree, but when he comes around to her it’s only for this and when she has so many fears and insecurities about not properly belonging in the gang because she’s a girl (which is founded based on the fact aside from Noah they’ve all been misogynistic towards her at some point even if it was passive) and not being respected, when she’s also an outsider at home because of a different thing she can’t control. And you can not say that her feeling Adam is treating her like a thing to have and not a person he connects with is unfounded he again literally “I got Blue without you!” screamed at Gansey, consistently going to her after they fight (he did it end of TRB after repugnant too) to validate himself or just generally when he’s falling apart looking for validation from her like in the apartment scene. It’s not a bad thing to seek validation from your partner and in TRB before I’d say the last quarter I think Blue and Adam were genuinely connecting and developing a friendship while also exploring their feelings/attractions to each other, which did always have elements of seeking escape or validation for both of them in different ways, but it’s dissolved into that so much now. And I do think Blue is to some degree mad at Adam because he’s here and available to be mad at when she’s also mad at Gansey for it (I don’t think they’re *in the wrong * for not inviting her but they are in the wrong for not even considering she could want to go or at least want to be in the loop, also even though it’s Gansey’s party if Adam is trying to be her *boyfriend* it was kind of his place to ask her) so she’s conveying anger at Adam when the anger is for both of them, and also more general factors she’s frustrated by, but also Adam has the exact same response of channeling emotions that aren’t solely about Blue through their fights (and to his credit he is self aware that he does this) so again crucifying Blue for it is whack imo. Also to check myself on shipper-brain for the Adam-Gansey aspect of it, well obviously I read that here as a factor because I’m me, but for arguments sake on the premise Adam has No feelings about Gansey that are anything other than platonic Blue would still have a right to be mad about him prioritizing his platonic male friends over her and treating them with more respect, obviously, because misogyny exists (also these are not two contradictory readings in that I think they’re both factors. kavinsky's death is actually the closing arc in a great tragedy to me bc his actions throughout the story are mostly just him practically begging for someone to be on his side, to care about him, to even just look at him. his father tried to kill him, his mother is completely uninterested. he can dream himself as many people as he wants, but they will only ever think of him because he made them to do so. the dream pack are just physical manifestations of his desire to not be alone in the world, to have someone, anyone, connected to him. he so desperately tries to draw some sort of emotion out of ronan, good bad or ugly, because the intense similarities they share mean that he's the only person who might be willing to look long enough to see him. and when it doesn't work, when he realizes it can't, that this world is not for him and he is not going to be a part of it in a way that involves anyone else, he decides that everyone is going to look at least this once. they will all see the finale if nothing else. genuinely doomed from the start. and how truly devastating that is in comparison to the core group the story focuses on, characters that even at their lowest and darkest and meanest and absolute worst have others there with them. characters that always have someone looking for them. dying is a boring side of a life that has nothing inside of it.

An unhinged recap of Ronan's homosexuality

Hi! This once again belongs to my big Raven Cycle analysis, click here for the masterpost.

Again, there's not much room for speculation here, but i had to write it for completionist purposes. I apologize for certain metaphores used, for the most part when I was writing this I was going through it (brain was fried).

Here u go (also spoilers for Greywaren)

d) Ronan Lynch

Next to Adam, Ronan is the only other canonically queer person in the Gangsey. A flaming homosexual with a car fetish (because there was something unbelievably sexy about cars at night). Ronan is the original Be Gay, Do Crime. (Adam is the Be Crime, Do Gay to that.)

You get the gist; he is seriously involved with one guy but used to have some bits of self discovery (not only on the topic of his sexuality) with another, which ended because that guy kidnapped his brother because despite being gay, Ronan unbelievably was not into him. I’m sorry, I really do not want to dissect the entirety of Pynch in here, that would go way too far and I bet there are so many people who could do and have done this better than I ever could, so I’ll stick to elaborating some more on how we find out that he is gay, considering I think he doesn’t say the word until Call Down The Hawk.

In the first book, Ronan does not get a pov, maybe because Maggie needed some more time to figure out how to make a character subtly and thirst over another character in a secret and homosexual way. Still we get some small hints, based on conversations with other characters, or just his behavior in general.

Gansey: “From now on I need all of us to be straight with one another” Ronan: “I’m always straight” Adam: “oh man that’s the biggest lie you’ve ever told” This, of course, is legendary. Ronan is gay, he jokes about it, Adam knows it. I genuinely cannot tell whether Ronan had come out to his friends, whether he just did it through jokes like this etc. If the latter is the case, I honestly doubt that Gansey would have known, as oblivious as he is.

We also have the case study of Declan and his Ashleys. Ronan seems to despise the heterosexual standards that his brother portrays, but it is not clear whether that’s because of heterosexuality, or because of Declan, because let’s be honest, in book one, Ronan would hate, absolutely hate, anyone Declan dates out of principle, because Declan’s just a bitch, or a manwhore, as Gansey would say.

Then it gradually all becomes very much obvious in The Dream Thieves. We got the parallels with religion, his nightmares (his night horrors/self-hate maybe being because of internalized homophobia?) and of course the secrets. The secrets you keep from yourself, the very obvious metaphor. Plus Kavinsky literally calls him the f-slur. You will very easily pick up on that if you’re not as oblivious as I was when I first read the book (I was in my Declan Lynch era with a tummy-ache ok?), but it is explicitly resolved in the epilogue. There is no more room left for ambiguity, thank you Maggie for ending the queer speculation yourself, within the book.

Then there’s gender, of course there’s gender. Gender is like Tad Carruthers, just always materializing out of nowhere, especially when you just want to stay away from it because it’s fake and a massive bitch.

Ronan definitely identifies as male, but if you look at this a certain way he is somehow trans or defies the entire concept of gender either way, considering he is a supernatural being, spirit, entity, that was just socialized as a boy. Ronan is like Cabeswater, or Lindenmere, which both don’t have a gender, obviously, they are forests. The Greywaren is often referred to as an “it”, which makes sense when people don’t know the Greywaren is human, but something about the entire thing smells very trans rights to me. Also that eldritch horror, not quite human at all,  jumble of dark matter thing in Greywaren was just so gender of him.

Ronan would wear a crop top, there’s no doubt to me.

OC Origins Name Tag

Thank you @the-golden-comet for the tag!! This seems like a fun one!!

Rules: I want to know how you came up with your original character’s names and personalities. Are they based on people in your real life? Are they straight from your brain? Are they a mix of several people?

My names really... vary on how I come up with them. A lot of times, especially for side characters, it's just 'what letters can I throw together that sound cool and look pleasing?' or 'I like this word so let's turn it into a name!' I've actually got a whole note on my phone dedicated just to random names I come up with lol

Asset 703

So um, technically, she does have a name haha. I just haven't shared it yet because I've got this whole name reveal scene planned out that I'm basically debating on whether I should share it or make you guys wait for the finished product. I created her name when I was in middle school and it's stayed the same since then. The inspiring word was 'Chalcanthite' which is a toxic vibrant blue mineral found in copper mines (I had a geology phase). The number 703 was just a random number I threw together that looked good to me.

Fres

Fres has had a couple name changes over the years, along with some sex and gender switches, but this seems to be the one I've finally landed on. Honestly, I don't even remember how I came up with it. It was probably just a throw letters together situation. They've always had short names though.

Ronan "Rage" Airvix

Rage has also never had a name change. His inspiration for the name 'Rage' was actually the clones from Star Wars. I liked how their names weren't really things you would name somebody and were more off their personality or defining traits and I wanted to kind of follow that idea. Rage just kind of clicked. I also liked how it was the opposite of his personality, until you pissed him off. The name 'Airvix' came because he used to be a different species. An Aveei, which come from Realm Aveilu. Lots of As I know. I wanted a last name that kind of played off of air, aviation, or astro. The name just transferred over when he changed species.

Master Gerd

Once again, I don’t really recall how his name came about. He semi-recently had a character makeover, or downgrade I guess, because he's a dick. He's been in and out of the WIP in various forms since middle school and I can't really recall.

Healer Asurr

I threw some letter together and called it a day. They've had a couple variations with the word 'sure' being the starting point. Threw in some letters, dropped some, fiddled with a couple different spellings, and eventually decided on Asurr.

Oh, what's this? Is this me doodling my two BG3 playthrough romances? Am I doing two simulations playthroughs (one single player and one multiplayer where I'm making my wife romance Karlach so she can experience it too? ABSOLUTELY XD)

Anyway, here are my two couples and their accidental ship names b/c I named them for fun and then realized each word describes a member of the pair AHAHA XD

Anyway, meet Shade and Ronan, my two gender: none, Left side: a hottie Tavs XD I'm glad I'm getting to play more Shade who was a one-shot character, so I don't have to worry about increasing my overflowing OC count (help, no really, it's a problem)

🏹 About/Backstory 🏹 

Ronan's father, Leo, was a member of the Guild of Arrows, an elite group of hooded mercenaries dedicated to liberating the good people of England, and it was during one of said missions that he met and fell in love with Maeve, a woman from Silverwood, a small hamlet on the outskirts of Nottingham. The two of them were married a mere two months after they'd met and shortly after, delivered a strong and healthy baby boy.

When he was a little boy, Ronan took a keen interest in archery, which worried Maeve. She outrightly discouraged him from pursuing his passion, worried that this would get him into trouble and in turn, discouraged Leo from feeding into his curiosities. But Leo, who was still a part of the Guild of Arrows and would occasionally need to leave for days, weeks, or sometimes even months at a time, insisted that their son should at least know how to defend himself, what with the war between the two classes becoming more of a possibility.

Of course Leo had a good point, and so Maeve relented, and for his seventh birthday, Ronan received his very first bow and arrow, which he showed to all of his friends with pride. He would spend hours and hours practicing with straw targets that his father would make by hand, the elder showing him all the tips and tricks he learned from all his years of fighting.

🏹 Personality 🏹 

Ronan is the honourable, selfless, kindhearted, and brave heroes you read about in stories, who is not afraid to dive head first into battle and who will do whatever it takes to keep the people he cares about safe. He's also resourceful, quick-witted and knows how to use his enemies' weaknesses to his advantage, however, be as it may, he does have a tendency to not think before he speaks or acts, which can get him into trouble. Though it may not come as a surprise that he can weasel his way out of trouble just as easily.

Over the years, in addition to being a clever thief when it comes to money, jewels and other items of value, Ronan's appetite for love and admiration is almost as insatiable as his appetite for adventure. He has stolen the hearts of many of the townsfolk and has taken more than his fair share of lovers, both women and men, and spent countless nights in taverns charming them with his winning smile, humour and way with words.

He also has a particularly soft spot for children and will gladly take on anyone who has the nerve to pick on them. He has thought about wanting a family of his own someday, but the dream of finding his soulmate, the one person he is destined to be with, because in truth, since losing his father, he is afraid of getting too close to anyone, out of fear that they'll be taken away from him.

🏹 Abilities 🏹 

Archery - As previously stated, Ronan is practically an expert when it comes to the art of using a bow and arrow thanks to his father's teachings. He can shoot a target from vast distances and almost never miss. Almost. The night his father was attacked by the Sheriff's army, he attempted to pierce the soldier's heart with one of his arrows, but because he was so terrified, he ended up missing his shot and in turn, was unable to save his father's life. Since then, however, he has perfected his craft and will stop at nothing to make sure no one has to suffer losing their loved ones the way he did. He can also shoot from behind, whilst having his eyes closed, etc.

Swordsmanship - Not only is Ronan a great shot, he has a lot of experience with a sword as well, though truth be told, he definitely prefers his bow and arrows, mostly because he doesn't necessarily need to clean them like he would need to clean a blade. Being ambidextrous, he can use both hands while fighting, however, you will most often see him using his right hand.

Animal Care - Ronan's love of animals started at a young age, because he lived on a small farm growing up, when he wasn't perfecting his archery skills, he was helping his mother tend to the chickens and horses and the small family of cats who resided in the barn, and no, he was not allowed to bring the cats into the house much to his dismay. He would spend a considerable amount of time observing the local wildlife including deer, rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs, badgers, birds and yes, even the occasional bear, though he knew better than to mess with bears because they are prone to mood swings. Ask him anything about any of these animals and he will basically go on a full on rant.

Horseback Riding - Out of all animals, Ronan loves horses best. As soon as he was old enough, he asked Maeve to teach him since Leo had been called away on an assignment from the Guild of Arrows and wanted to surprise him by showing him what he could do. His mother was more than willing to show him how to ride since she herself had been riding horses since she was a little girl. It took him quite a lot of practice and a few tumbles to get the hang of it, but once he did, he was just as proficient as Maeve, maybe even more so, according to Leo.

so hypothetically if you were to start a playthrough of stardew valley where your farmer is ronan lynch, who would you have him romance? penny is basically a genderbent adam, but harvey is the most adam-like bachelor

well, as someone who doesn’t play stardew valley (or a lot of games in general) and has no idea how exactly the game works i’d say go for whatever option is more fun? and if they’re both equal fun then i guess it’s your choice how strictly you want to stick to gender when it comes to ronan. to me, ronan always read very very gay instead of bi or pan so i’d probably go with the adam-like bachelor but ronan is also very much in love with adam’s personality so i think going with the genderbent option could be super interesting too.
