Anyone who claims that Saiki would be a dick to Kokomi (pre-terusai) is a complete and utter liar. There's so many fanfics where he's just rude to her before they start dating/he stars liking her and there's not a crumb of truth in those.

His primary overt attempt to be rude to her was on their little date thing in canon where he just beat her at every game they played in an effort to get her to hate him. That was one of his best attempts. He wasn't even rude to her for the sake of being rude like so many fanfics suggest, he didn't even do anything to ruin her day, he was just like "I'm going to play several games with her and beat her at all of them, this is so very rude of me and I hope it makes her not want to date me."

He didn't even taunt her or boast about his victory or anything like that. He just quietly won then moved onto the next game.

You think that this man would be the type to do something to ruin her day like fucking with her morning coffee or purposefully fucking with something of hers (Like making her think she has bad luck for the day or that her tarot fortune gave her bad luck or generally leaving her in a bad spot)? That man would slap himself if he even entertained those thoughts. Ship or no ship, he deeply cares for her and would never do something to genuinely put her in a bad spot or make her miserable. If he accidentally did either, you think he wouldn't do everything he could to frantically undo it only to find out that her magic god/perfect pretty girl powers solved it anyways in true sitcom fashion ?

Plus they always make it seem like Teruhashi is helpless in a sense, that her fate could easily be manipulated by Saiki, which is untrue. God would kill that boy where he stood if he tried to harm her mentally or psychically.

thinking about how often saiki does something noticably unnatural and everyone just assumes its because of how amazing teruhashi is...... au where teruhashi knows about saikis powers and theyre a chaotic tag team. like in the school play episode where saiki changes everyones appearance once teruhashi comes on stage except if it was all the time and teruhashi was in on it. i think that would be hilarious

like, okay. imagine some side character gets injured or something and teruhashi comes up like "oh no! *bats eyelashes* do you want me to kiss it better?" and while shes doing her little performance saiki rolls his eyes and heals them. and everyones like "wow!! thats teruhashi for you!" btw saiki hates this dynamic with every fibre of his being. he only goes along with it because he does want to help people without outing himself and this method is surprisingly effective (and because teruhashi threatened to out him if he didnt go along with it). and he ESPECIALLY hates how much teruhashi loves it. both her ego and her crush on saiki get bigger, and since she knows about his powers she knows that he knows so its turned into this sort of "youll fall for me one day 😘" "*sigh*..... please just leave me alone....." dynamic, where both of them are only half kidding. and then they solve crimes or something idk im going off nothing but vibes here

to be honest, some tdlosk fans on tiktok are so annoying about shipping. mostly with saiteru, though it also pops up with kusuo/anyone (very rare for satousai, however). "isn't he canonically aroace" "saiki x coffee jelly is better" this tiktok is not for you. just scroll.

because guess what, aroace isn't just a sexuality, it's actually a spectrum. what part of little to no romantic attraction do you not get. it doesn't matter if you ship him with someone or not, but as long as there's no a-spec erasure (i feel like a-spec is a more flexible term to say, especially when you consider everyone's differing hcs, so i think saying he's canonically a-spec is more accurate than saying he's canonically aroace), then whatever, it's fine.

How to make Aiura and Saiki not soulmates.

I like both Saiteru and Saiura a lot as ships, but Saiki x Teruhashi is definitely pushed by the series a lot more towards the end. Despite this, if someone wants to make a fic/doujin where Saiki and Teruhashi get together, there's the obvious problem of what to do with Aiura: not only is she a romantic rival throughout the series, but she's introduced as being soulmates with Saiki, and her predictions are never* wrong. If you want to stay canon-compliant, you need to come up with an explanation for why them being soulmates isn't getting in the way of Saiki and Teruhashi being together.

Here are some options I've seen and have thought of:

Ignore it. Don't consider Aiura and Saiki being soulmates an aspect of their relationship that needs to be brought up. Maybe don't have Aiura show up at all! This also allows the reader to headcanon any of the below as what happened, although that's a bit stupid.

They're platonic soulmates! Soulmates have only been mentioned in a romantic context throughout the series, but maybe it's really that they're super close friends or whatever!! This can be cute, but it also comes with the expectation that they're going to be shown off doing platonic soulmatey stuff (like ever interacting), and a lot of fics don't really... do that.......

They're still romantic soulmates, but you can be with someone who isn't your soulmate. You can play it as a nice thing, about how you don't necessarily need to force yourself to conform to the whims of fate and can find your own happiness, or as a sad thing, where Saiki, Aiura, and Teruhashi aren't with their true loves. The latter works a bit less well if you want to portray Saiki and Teruhashi positively, but you can also have it be angst purely for Aiura.

Soulmates aren't a permanent thing. You can be soulmates with someone at one point in your life and then lose that connection later on, somehow. This goes against the cultural zeitgeist's perception of "soulmate" but (iirc) isn't explicitly not canon, although it does retroactively make Aiura seem... kind of reckless and weird? But she's already a bit reckless and weird, and she probably isn't a focus of characterization in a Saiki and Teruhashi story.

Aiura was wrong. Sure, her predictions are never* wrong, but maybe she just... was, somehow? This can be played for angst but also as a quick joke that leaves Saiki and Teruhashi room to be soulmates, and is also a way to get Aiura out of the narrative quickly if you don't want her there much but still want to have her show up.

*Aiura can be wrong under specific circumstances. I say she's never wrong, but her predictions of disaster can be mitigated if one takes action to prevent them, implying that her predictions can be made wrong if someone has the knowledge of them beforehand. This opens the door to a really interesting possibility: Aiura and Saiki would have been soulmates, but the fact that she tracked down Saiki specifically because of this caused them to meet much earlier than they should have, and butterfly effected them out of being soulmates. This is super cool to me, but it does force a specific interpretation of Aiura's prediction that they're soulmates (that it's a vision of the future and not an inherent property the people hold), and also requires a lot of explanation about Aiura's powers, which might not be what an author wants for a Saiki x Teruhashi story. But I'd love to see it explored more in something focused on Aiura!

Aiura was completely right, and the common interpretation of soulmates is completely right as well, and Saiki and Teruhashi are gonna break up. If you're the kind of person who's okay with relationships ending at some point in the future and still cares about the present, this can be a cute/melancholic view, where Saiki and Teruhashi are in a relationship doomed to end (and Saiki might even know about it), but they don't care and just want to enjoy it. If you're not that kind of person, this is really easy angst potential. You can also make Aiura believe that this is the case, that they'll break up soon, and have that be a sad part of her character for most of the above options.

The Saiki K fandom is an almost perfect fandom. Almost. It would be perfect if people stopped POLICING MY FUCKING SHIP. It’s a perfectly legal, normal ship. But y’all just HAVE to be hypocrites when it comes to shipping Saiki with anyone.

I see plenty of posts shipping Saiki romantically with Teruhashi or Aiura, and no one has anything bad to say, but when i ship him with Satou suddenly it’s a problem, suddenly it’s “he’s aroace!!! you can’t ship him with anyone!!!” or “Saiki doesn’t canonically like anyone” Atp it’s just homophobia, plain and simple.

First of all, i’m aroace, i ship what i want with characters who represent ME. I know how aroace people behave in romantic relationships, therefore i don’t need roaches in my ears yapping about how bad it is to ship them, because god forbid an aroace person defies your expectations for how they behave romantically. Putting us all in a fucking box won’t solve shit.

Second of all, and i can’t stress this enough, IT. DOES. NOT. FUCKING. MATTER. Shipping is supposed to be fun, i do not care what is canon and what isn’t canon, but if we wanna nitpick then Saiki canonically has a crush on Satou in the manga. There. I do not care that Satou has a gf. Or what makes Saiteru or Saiura more implied. But don’t get on my ass for shipping Saiki with someone only when i ship him with a man (whom he’s canonically obsessed with, his motives don’t matter)

If i look for content about these two all i find is really mean-spirited videos telling people that the ship is abhorrent and we’re worth less than dirt for liking it. Shit, even on shipping posts we aren’t free to do what we want! Artists will get hit with the “oh i hate the ship but cool art!” THAT ISN’T THE COMPLIMENT YOU THINK IT IS. STOP FUCKING INTERACTING. NO ONE LIKES YOU.

Anyways, even if they’re not my favorite Saiki K ship (i’m a kubokai truther), they still mean a lot to me, so i’d appreciate if allos stopped speaking over me trying to dictate what i can and can’t ship.

…in all seriousness id love to see a really long thought out essay on the topic of Teruhashi & Saiki’s relationship and how it changes over the course of the series. And whether or not the romantic coding was intentional, or if it was an extension of the romance trope gag. Also, how they are supposed to foil each other, but also how many similarities they share in circumstance and how goshdarn differently they tend to handle said circumstances (of always being the object of attention regardless of whether or not they want it) and how similar their internal attitudes are towards interacting with people, and how this this tends to affect their actions towards others.

That's a very good idea!

I can explain the usual formula of how it works and I'll give some of the most popular examples :3 I'll do this with japanese names only, because... I don't know ANY korean sorry lol

Let's try it with Toritsuka x Saiki.

Basically, 90% of the ship names work by taking the first letter of the characters last names and putting them together. 斉木＋鳥束＝斉鳥　(Saiki + Toritsuka = SaiTori) OR 鳥束＋斉木＝鳥斉　(Toritsuka + Saiki = ToriSai)

If you don't know how the characters names are spelled, you can easily check it on either the japanese wikipedia article for Saiki, or go to the Saiki Fandom Wiki >:)

The important thing is that the first person's letter in the initial indicates that they're the dominant one in the relationship. Japanese artists make sure to tag different dynamics properly. ToriSai and SaiTori aren't the same thing! It's best to avoid tagging them inproperly if uploading your own work on pixiv or places like that. Don't be shocked when seeing Saiki being bottom in a work tagged #torisai lmao

Some tags with the same ship will be less popular than the others, but if you don't mind either, you can check both combinations each time.

There are exceptions! Some ships with side characters that might collide with a prexisting ships usually resort to using their first names. Example: For Makoto x Kuusuke, we don't say TeruSai (照斉) like their names suggest. We use MakoKuu (信空) instead.

Some examples I've seen the most often: (for more obscure dynamics, just switch the kanji order around.)

ToriSai or SaiTori - #鳥斉 or #斉鳥 KuboKai - #窪海 or #海窪 TeruSai or SaiTeru - #照斉 or #斉照 KuboSai - #窪斉 SaiKai - #斉海 KuboTori - #窪鳥 NenSai - #燃斉

Tags for the siblings (usually not romantic): Saiki brothers - #斉木兄弟 Teruhashi siblings - #照橋兄妹

And for popular exceptions! MakoKuu or KuuMako - #信空 or #空信 KuuKusu or KusuKuu - #空楠 or #楠空 ToriKusu or KusuTori - #鳥楠 (^^^ used for Toritsuka x Kusuko specifically + Japanese fans don't call Kusuko by Kuriko most of the time.) KokoImu or ImuKoko- #ここいむ or #いむここ (^^This one doesn't use kanji, just hiragana, and yes, it's not TeruImu there.) KokoChiyo - #ここちよ

We've seen a bit of Saiki doing it to Kokomi so in a (platonic or romantic sense) terusai way it would go a bit like

Which, if you noticed, is very similar to canon situations that have happened in the anime regarding Makoto. In a Terusai situation, which is to say Saiki acknowledging a positive relationship between them and not sabotaging it, he'd be a bit more worried. Saiki is a worrywart at heart, and he knows what it's like to have to flee from your older brother.

He would do everything in his power to make sure that man stays as far away from her as possible. Maybe that involves using his powers to send him to a bog in England, maybe that involves stealing a car and riding away (at dangerously high speeds) into the sunset (and maybe a shopping mall) with Kokomi (who is screaming in fear)

Speaking of Saiki's fuck up of a brother, Kokomi would not hesitate before protecting Kusuo from Kuusuke. It'd be decently similar to a canon interaction that exists due to Kokomi having a very different set of strengths than Kusuo
