Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of sexual love and beauty, was equated with Venus by the Romans. The term 'aphros' in Greek translates to "foam," and according to Hesiod's Theogony, Aphrodite emerged from the white foam produced by Uranus's severed genitals, which his son Cronus cast into the sea. Aphrodite was revered not only as a goddess of the sea and navigation but also as a deity of war in places like Sparta, Thebes, and Cyprus. Primarily, she was celebrated as a goddess of love, fertility, and occasionally oversaw marriage rites. Renée was chosen to represent Aphrodite because, in addition to her beauty, she has a calculating, strategising and hedonic side, hiding her true intentions behind her features. Of course, not in all paths.

"In my opinion, VFV is the best book on Romance Club. All your choices truly matter and there are so many options to create your character's personality, beliefs , etc even outside the main 3 stats. Besides those, there are so many other paths such as choosing a retinue, being on Bright Influence or Dark Spycraft, or becoming official mistress that are all unique and give a different experience with each one. And that's not even getting into the different LIs available. There are also so many different branches and so many possible endings, and honestly it has the strongest finale among RC books.

All of this results in a book with amazing replay value (also a plus in terms of sales, bc of more cups and gems spent per play for rereading and choosing different options). Not only that, Langley's prose is very good. It's very descriptive and evocative of the setting. I could keep gushing, but I don't need to write a novel.

Now do I think this book is perfect? No, none of them are. But so far, for me, this is RC at its peak. I'm also enjoying 7 Brothers a lot so far and hope it measures up to the high standard set by this book. I hope Langley keeps writing for RC."

Vyying for Versailles theory

I’m a huge fan of VFV on Romance Club, so here is my theory on how Alexandre Bontemps was actually meant to be a Love interest.

He shows signs of being the canon LI such as being the first love interest to be introduced and has an important role in the story (if he wasn’t for him, Renée would not have went to Versailles). And for a character who was not supposed to be an LI, his path has the most depth.

A lot of flirting in season 1. There is literally an option to flirt with him the first time we meet him (“Are you asking for my hand in marriage, Monsieur?”). Also Renée’s reaction to Alexandre: Renée blushing when Alexandre congratulate her if she does well during her first cursty to the king, Renée noticing how Alexandre’s stubble brushes her cheek when he gets closer to her to hear about what she discovered in the orangery.

In the cover of the season 1 poster we see Renée with other LI’s like Louis, Phillipe and Maria Theresa. And then there is Alexandre. Why Alexandre? Why not Bonne who was supposed to be the 4th OG LI? The same thing is present on the cover of the story where Renées has a crown on her head with Alexandre close to her.

4. Speaking of posters, notice the green ring Renée is wearing? It looks IDENTICAL to the one Alexandre’s gives her if she gives him the portrait at the end of season 2. His mother’s ring. Coincidence?
